Error message: Display performance will be poor due to incorrectly operating graphics card or driver

Greetings:
I've been getting this message lately, using clips of .avi footage from a non-HD Flip Video camcorder. First off, my computer has beyond what I'd need to edit this footage—it's an HP dv 3085dx notebook with 6 gigs of DDR3, Intel Core i7 processor, NVidia GeForce GT230M graphics card. It's a loaded machine. That's not the problem.
The problem is that the red circle with the X in the lower left-hand corner of the screen shows up and gives me this message moments after I start each new project. However, when I click on it, the message is grayed out and it doesn't give me the option of checking the details. Read on to find out how this is affecting my videos....
When I playback unrendered clips, the playback works fine. After rendering, however, the clips play back with jerky glitches and flashes that weren't there during playback of the unrendered footage. I've downloaded the latest driver (195.81), and that hasn't improved anything. Here's a link to a video I posted on YouTube, to illustrate the types of glitches I've been getting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFeCh6q1JTQ The glitches are particularly apparent during the stretch between 0:20 and 0:28.
I'm still pretty new to this craft (read: I haven't tried other software yet), so any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
P.S. Might there be some downloadable Premiere Elements software updates that would alleviate the problem?

Thanks for your response. My notebook has a 7200 RPM 500 GB hard drive with about 320 GB free. The .avi files were brought in to PrEl from a WD Passport external drive with about 60 GB (of its 400 GB capacity) free. The project was also being saved to the WD drive.
I have a Windows 7 64-bit system. I have all the latest versions of my NVidia graphics card driver and Quick Time. I also downloaded the PrEl 8.0.1 update from Adobe. Hardware/software-wise, I'm pretty sure I'm in good shape; I'm thinking there might be some settings that I might want to play with.
The camcorder is a very basic Flip Video USB camcorder by Pure Digital Technologies (Model #: F260W). It records in .avi format; when you plug the USB in, you can access an application that allows you to save the videos. I use this to save them to the local drive (C:) and then I copy the .avi files from there to the WD Passport. The Passport drive is where I bring in the media into Premiere Elements, to keep space free for the OS to run smoothly.
The project is set up this preset: NTSC > Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorders > Standard 48kHz. As stated earlier, the error message shows up pretty much instantly. To be exact, it shows up about 5-30 seconds after I start a project. Unrendered clip previews playback fine. The raw .avi files also play fine in Windows Media Player. The glitching occurs after clips are rendered.
So, I think that pretty much covers the four steps from the article you linked me to, plus your questions in the above post. There really isn't much of a workflow before the error occurs. I simply drag a clip into the timeline, render it, and the playback gets that splotchy glitching. Now, it could be that the WD external drive doesn't have enough space or speed to run a Premiere Elements project, but if that's the case, why would the error message point to the graphics card?
Thanks again, truly appreciated.

  • Help, PE8 says: "Display performance will be poor due to incorrectly operating graphics card"

I receive the following error message in the lower left corner of the screen upon starting a new project in PE8 or opening an existing one: "Display performance will be poor due to incorrectly operating graphics card or driver."  It seems that Premiere Elements 8 is not recognizing and hence not using my GPU to render files when burning DVD's.  Unlike PE4, which utilized my GPU ( I know this because I've installed GPU-Z which shows me when a program is utilizing my GPU) when encoding files and the like, PE8 takes more than twice as long to render the same files and projects when I attempt to burn to a dvd.  Not to mention it utilized my CPU at around 98% for the duration of the 2 hour burn, heating my CPU to dangerous levels.
I have the latest Graphics card driver for my Nvidia GTS 250: v195.62
I've called technical support and they sent me to the following troubleshooting article, but I've tried everything to no avail: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/514/cpsid_51427.html.
    Here are my computer specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, SP2
    Intel Quad-Core Q6600
    3 Gig Ram
    4 Hard-Drives
    Nvidia GTS 250 Graphics Card
    blah..blah..blah
P.S. I can't re-install PE4 as it was bundled software that came with my wife's computer..and I consequently tried to uninstall/reinstall to my system with no serial number...Also, I don't want to revert back to an earlier nvidia driver on principle (b/c PE8 should work as advertised with the latest nvidia drivers) and more importantly, doing so might interfere with my games and other programs.
One last thing.  PE4 utilized my GPU, I downloaded the latest trail version of Cyberlink's Power Director Software and it utilized my GPU, even windows dvd maker uses my GPU...However, I've spent a lot of time with PE4 and I love the features and the interface and would rather work with the latest from Adobe.  I'm using PE8 for a lot of video projects and I don't want to have to waste time watching it take 2 hours to render a DVD when PE4 did the same project in 45 minutes.
Any advice regarding this problem would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

It could be that the message is benign. Premiere Elements does not use your graphics card to render your video. That's a function of your processor.
Your graphics card effects your onscreen display only. So, unless you're seeing a significant drop in the quality or function of your onscreen display, I wouldn't worry about it. (The program is likely switching automatically to a compatibility mode.)
It could be that a Windows Update is conflicting with something in your graphics card's driver -- and it will eventually be corrected in a later driver release.
So, unless your display is degrading when the program switches to compatibility mode, just ignore it and keep working.
Version 8 is a massive resource hog and, for reasons I can't figure out, takes twice as long and uses twice as much power to accomplish the same things that previous versions accomplished using very little power. I'm not sure what Adobe's strategy is with this.

  • Still getting Display Error in PE8: "Display performance will be poor due to Incorrectly..."

I recently updated my OS from Windows Vista (32-Bit) to Windows 7 (64-Bit).  When working with PE8 in Windows Vista, I would receive the following error (signified by a red X in the lower left hand corner of the screen) whenever opening an existing project or creating a new one "Display Performance will be poor due to incorrectly operating graphics card or driver!"  To my consternation, I'm getting the same message after updating my OS with a CLEAN INSTALL of Window 7 64-bit.  I have the latest, stable Nvidia card driver 196.21 and have installed the latest patch from Adobe 8.0.1.  I'm interested to see if anyone is having this reoccurring GPU-incompatibility problem after installing the new patch.
Any solutions that don't involve simply turning off GPU playback are much appreciated.
As this is not a "workflow" problem I don't see the need in displaying an exhaustive list of all of my Computer assets.  However, here are the basics.:
    Computer: HP Pavillion M9150f
    Processor: Intel Quad-Core Q6600 2.4 GHZ
    Ram: 8 GB
Video Card: Nvidia GTS 250 1gb Ram, Latest WQHL Nvidia Driver 196.21
I have no other Video-Editing software installed, not even windows movie maker.
Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

Adobe's silence on the issue leads one to believe they simply cant fix it.
That could well be a reason. However, if history is any indicator, Adobe is always tight-lipped about any plans, or works in progress, until they are ready for "prime time." Recently, a lot of podcasts and blog-spot pieces began appearing on changes in PrPro CS5. Many of these are directly related to GPU acceleration with certain nVidia cards, and a totally new render engine, Mercury. Still, other than some observations from select personnel, and a few demo videos, the complete details have not come forth. Also, there has been caution that Mercury might NOT make it into CS5. Only time will tell. So silence is not new from Adobe, and there could be various reasons for it, from re-coding being an impossible task to the patch/fix not being quite ready for release. PrPro CS4 got three significant updates, plus updates to Encore and AME. It was only about one week before those releases, that a single word hit the fora.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
HERE was the "sneak peak" on Mercury.
HERE is a thread on nVidia support for it.

    Hi Anupam,
The error message display as follows. (when the PO Price exceeds the Planned Funds kept for internal order)
This error comes during PO creation Process and PO can not be saved. This error message display is correct.
Item 001 Order 600643 budget exceeded
    Message no. BP604
    Diagnosis
In document item 001 Order 600643, budget  for fiscal year 2009 was exceeded by 99,960,000.00 INR.
But  my question is 'when funds have not at all been mentioned for the internal order' then system has to throw the same error as mentioned above. But it is not happening. System is allowing the PO to save which is not correct.

    Hi Mon,
The hotfix you said is for Microsoft SQL Server 2008. So it will not work on your scenario since you are using SQL Server 2008 R2.
Based on the limited information, we cannot give you the exact reason that cause this issue. In order to narrow down this issue, you can apply the latest Service Pack and Cumulative Update as GregGalloway said. Besides, you can troubleshoot this issue by
using the Windows Event logs and msmdsrv.log.
You can access Windows Event logs via "Administrative Tools" --> "Event Viewer".  SSAS error messages will appear in the application log.
The msmdsrv.log file for the SSAS instance that can be found in \log folder of the instance. (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Log)

  • Process error message: Display on the same page

When I create a before header process and that has an error, the error message shows up on a page by itself with the OK button. This takes away the context of the error
Similar to how validations have the option of displaying inline on the same page, is there a way to have the process error message display on the same page?
    Thanks

I just want to display the error message on the same page, thats all. I dont want a error page with just the error since it takes away all the context.
Well what do you want to do, you can set a item to
hold a message and display that item in a region
    when this_exception then
:P20_ERROR_MESSGE := 'Something went wrong here';So, P20_ERROR_MESSAGE would be a hidden item on the page?
Then display the item in a region. How can I display that hidden item in the region? So the region would just have this read-only text box in it? But then it wont be hidden? I guess I can conditionally display the region only if the error message is not null?

  • Inconsistent error message display

Using jsf/adf 10.1.3.3. Steve, I'm experiencing what seems to be an inconsistency in the way that error messages are being displayed. The problem I'm experiencing is that the first time an attribute fails validation, the error message is displayed only at the top in the message box and not beneath the respective component. The next time validation fails on this field, I see the error message at the top and beneath the component. This inconsistency seems to appear only when an attribute has been marked as mandatory (not null) and that particlar validation fails. Put another way, if I have a method validation on an attribute and that validation fails, I don't see this inconsistency. The error message always displays both at the top and beneath the component. I've tested this on one of your samples, RequiredFieldsWithCustomRequiredMessageIncludingFieldLabel, and found it happening there also. I made one slight change to the code in that example so that I could recreate this problem. There's code behind the Save button of the CreateNewEmployee.jspx which sends the user back to the 'Home' page of this app if the commit is successful. I've rewired that by returning null instead of returning "back". This way I can recreate the problem. Here are the steps to recreate:
    1) Run CreateNewEmployee.jspx
    2) Without entering any values, click Save.
    3) Validation fails for each of the required attributes, the errors appear for each of these attributes, but only in the top message box.
    4) Enter in valid values for the required fields.
    5) Click Save. This should commit the record just fine.
    6) Null out the value just entered for Employee Name.
    7) Click Save. Validation fails for Employee Name and the error message displays both at the top and just beneath the Employee Name input.
I see this behavior without using the customized PageLifecycle class too, so I don't think that it has anything to do with those framework extension classes. Any idea as to why when validation fails the first time for a required attribute the error message does not display beneath that component as well? Thanks.

The only workaround mentioned in the bug report is to use required="#{...}" instead of showrequired="#{...}" That is, if the client side manages the enforcement of the requiredness, then the issue apparently does not occur. The bug is still open (i.e. hasn't yet been fixed in 11g).
I'd recommend you file a Service Request on Metalink and ask for a fix to bug# 5918276 if it's a showstopper issue for you.

Please help. I am receiving an error message and I don't know what I need to do to fix my file. I'm working in Flash CS5.5. I've created an animated web banner. When I go to test movie, I receive the following error message:
Your content will not stream. Runtime Shared Library (RLS) preloader will require all of your content to download before the first frame will play.
To prevent this you can change the Runtime Shared Library Library Settings in the Advanced ActionScript 3.0 Settings dialog which can be raised from the Publish Settings dialog.
The Runtime Shared Libraries being preloaded are:
    textLayout_2.0.0.232.swz for TLF Text
I don't know what any of this means or what I need to do to ensure that my web banner will load correctly once it's uploaded to a website. Please help. I'm fairly new to Flash. Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide.

    Mr Benrud,
This window means you've used TLF Text Format and before all of your content download, it requires to be proloaded. To get rid of this message, just remove TLF Text Format (if you really don't require it) or else goto Publish Settings -> Flash -> Actionscript Settings and just remove it.

I get the message "Display driver incompatible. Please  update. I have a Vaio laptop purchased 10 months ago. I have the latest update of the NVidia G210 driver (187.83).  I teach Premeire Elements and I need a solution to this problem ASAP.

    Vijay,
Sorry I was not able to get back to you faster - I  had a little
"homework" to do and I needed some time to do it.
-Yes, I was able to locate BadDriver(s).txt file (my search would not find
    BadDrivers but did find BadDriver!
I reinstalled PPE 7 on my Sony VPC and it works fine!  I guess I do  have
an incompatibility with PPE 9.  I am calling Sony tomorrow for their  ideas
on this problem but I will get the same run around and "reformat" solution
which I have already done once for the previous driver problem.  They even
replaced the graphics card but that didn't stop the crashes with the previous
    driver.
Thanks for the interest and I hope we get a solution.  My trial has  only 3
days left and I don't think I will get one by that time.

    jzittle,
    Few queries,
Were you able to locate  BadDrivers.txt file?
if yes, did you try to relaunch the PRE9 app after  deleteing
    BadDrivers.txt file?
if yes, Was BadDrivers.txt file created at  the same location (from where
    you deleted it before) again?
if yes, Could  you see the details of your driver in BadDrivers.txt file?
if yes, then it  seems the driver installed on your system is not
compatible with PRE9. It  could be a problem in display driver. You should share your
Graphics Card and  Driver information here so that Adobe can look at the
problem and work with  driver vendor to solve this specific issue.
    Also,
If you have  different configurations for other machines, you may try PRE9
on those  machines as this issue seems specific to a graphcis card and its
    driver.
