Error message during installation of Lion..."The disc is not formatted for mac os extended (journaled).  But it is according to disc utility and won't finish installing.

I go to disc utility and verify and repair disc permissions.  Doesn't work.  I try to enable journalling but it isn't highlighted and am not able to do that as well.

I meet all those requirements.  core 2 duo and latest snow leopard.  I have a late 2006 mac book.  Maybe that's why.  Its telling me that my hard drive isn't formatted correctly but it is formatted as they ask.  It's not the hard drive that came with the macbook though.

The partition method worked after some trepidation.  I got the spinning beach ball after partitioning and couldn't go further till I named the second partition.  That may have done it.  Right now, things seem to be working o.k.  I'm updating a current iPhoto and will have to get a MS Word program that will function on the current OS and a current  Quicken.
If necessary, can start up from the 10.6.8 system which I downloaded to an external HD before updating.  I can always fall back on that.  Also, I hope I don't get too many disconnects.  Thank you for your help.

  • I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (.m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing)

I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (e.g. .m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing), all I want QuickTime to do is export the file in a compressed format. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

@Z_B-B, thank you for taking the time to respond to my cry for help. However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

Ran disk utility repair from Snow Leopard install disk. Same error.  Is there a way to enable journalling without erasing disk and reformatting? I have a TIme Machine back up but am nervous doing a compete erase and restore.

  • I recently updated to Mountain lion 10.8 . I backuped using external hard drive using time machine . I used Lacie drive. I had to format it MAC OSX " extended journaled" before I could back up my dat and after that I backed it up.

    1) I cant seem to restore my data back from Time machine as many files seem Locked. I cant use the Migration app since it doesnt show me my external hard drive when I try to use it. Plus Ive heard that Migration app copies whole drives rather than selecting and copying some folders/data.
    2) Even if i use the time machine to restore the data , It does copy on to my mac but that locked symbol is still there .
    3) I have read that my drive wont show on migration application cuz the OS should be same before and after the backup and there shouldnt be any difference , otherwise the migration app wont show the drive. This is absurd cuz mostly ppl back up because they want to upgrade their computers . It will never be the same , I mean the OSX , cuz after i have done the back there would have been an upgrade .
Can anyone help Linc Davis .

If you mean you're getting the same message:
see #C3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.   It will show you how to locate the message(s) that describe the problem, then help you fix it.    If that doesn't help, post back with details, including all the messages, your setup (especially the destination for the backups), what you've done, and the results.
If that's not the message you're getting, please clarify.

  • Macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was cancelled

macbook pro - iPhoto keep prompting to update after Yosemite update. Error message when trying to update -This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I only have 1 apple ID and the same was used to set up this early 2011 macbook pro and iPhoto app. I don't want to loose out on any photos. I tried logging out of app store and back in but no luck. PLEEAASEE HELPP!!!
This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

    Best,
    James.

you cannot use your pc license to install on a mac.  you would need a separate license (and serial number) for that.
adobe allows platform swaps, but only with the latest (xi) version, Order product | Platform, language swap
your option to use acrobat on a mac are to upgrade to acrobat pro xi and change platforms, use a windows emulator (parallels/boot camp etc) on your mac or swap with a third party.

  • InApp Error on Android: This version of the application is not configured for billing

    Hi,
My App runs on Android. Free publications can download, but when I publish a folio to sell, it appears on the Android device and it gives the message: "This version of the application is not configured for billing"
I used the (long) app license code at the API section and pasted it into the android Public Key aria in the DPS Admin.
Then I logged out and logged in again.
Any Ideas what could be wrong?

  • Mountain lion installer tells me that my Macintosh HD drive is not formatted to mac os extended, but I am running SL 10.6.8-iMac 2010

Thanks for any suggestions...iMac 2010 SL 10.6.8  trying to install ML 10.8.2   At the start of the installation(using downloaded installer from App Store) the installer advises that the Macintosh HD is not formatted as Moc OS Extended and directs me to aDisk Utility to do this .. surely this would format the drive and possibly do a Clean install ...which I not want to do..Is there a way to get round this issue?

Get a blank powered external drive equal too or slightly larger than your internal boot drive
Download a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner
Use Disk Utility to Erase the drive using the Middle Secure Erase selection and wait. until finished (may take hours)
Format the external drive Partition: 1, Option: GUID and Fomat: OS X Extended Journaled
Use CCC's default settings and clone your internal drive to the external one, may take hours.
When it's done, hold the option key down (wired or built in keyboard only) and reboot the computer, a screen pops up with bootable options, select the clone drive and check it out for some time.
Run Disk Utility from the clone and select the Macintosh HD partition and Partition: Format: OS X Extended Journaled and click apply, it likely will moan about this will delete all your data (it will)
Next click the Erase tab and use the middle secure erase option and click apply, wait it out again.
When that's finished use Carbon Copy Cloner to reverse clone the clone back onto the internal drive.
(note: in the future you can eliminate the secure erase steps and just click normal erase, as the bad sectors will have been already mapped off by the drive firmware)

  • HT203322 Still having issues with installing Yosemite after deleting "Backups.backupdb" on the internal hard drive.  I have restarted multiple times and cannot find any other back up files, yet I still receive the same error message during installation.

I am using a 2011 iMac on 10.6.8. I recently downloaded the Yosemite upgrade and during the installation process ran into the "this disk is used for time machine backups". I ejected the external drive I use for time machine backups and turned off time machine in the application. I then followed the instructions of the help article (OS X: Cannot install on a volume used by Time Machine for backups - Apple Support) by moving the folder "Backups.backupdb" that I was able to find on my internal hard drive to the trash. I have restarted several times after completing this process. I am still running into the same error during the installation process. I have searched the hard drive for any other backups and I cannot find any. I searched the hard drive using the command cmd-shift-g and searched for “backups.backupdb” and was unable to find any folders or files. Any other suggestions?

I have resolved the problem - I did not actually delete the "backups.backupdb" folder, I only deleted the contents of the folder.  I must have only searched on the user account for the folder after I thought I had deleted it.  Thank you for the assistance everyone and I apologize for the inconvenience!

  • Can't connect to X11 Windows ............ error message during installation

ok, so i searched through the long list of messages on the forum and still don't have an answer. I am using a PC with redhat FC4 installed and trying to install Oracle 9 on the same PC. I tried to export my DISPLAY=hostname:0.0 and export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0 and neither worked.
From the replies on the same error message, i gather that i do not need to run
    xhost +
because i am on the same machine.
What else can i check to get rid of this frustrating message ?
Most replies on the erorr messages were from a few years ago as well.
    Thanks

I solved my problem. It might be useful for other redhat FC users as well.
I changed the default terminal to be an Xwindows terminal instead of the standard terminal. You can do that by clicking on "Desktop", "Preferences" or "More Preferences" and configuring your default terminal to be Xwindows.
I was able to start installer WITHOUT exporting my display or any other command to get display going.
The installer did complain about some font messages, but apparently it didn't pose a problem.
BTW, i got Oracle 9.2.0.1 running on Redhat FC 4 using installation instructions i easily found on google. You need to use an old version of GCC (only during installation of software) and JRE (1.3.1_15); but it works. It will only be my "play at home" database. Probably not recommended for a production database.
