Error message firefox is already running deleted profiles uninstalled and reinsalled firefox but still get message

I cannot open firefox at all.

Hi,
Thanks for the solutions regarding Firefox not opening, but I've tried all of them before posting to the forum and none worked. In addition to those steps I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox three times. But that didn't help. Oh, I've also done a rollback to a date that preceeded the problem but again, no good. I' stumped at this point..........

• How to save down from InDesign Creative Cloud version to CS5? Have exported as .idml file but still get messages that plug-ins are missing although CS5 confirms it is fully updated.

How to save down from InDesign Creative Cloud version to CS5? Have exported as .idml file but still get messages that plug-ins are missing although CS5 confirms it is fully updated.

Yes. Thanks. I misled myself based on another post. Successfully did this by selecting "File," "Save a copy ..." then choosing "for CS4 or later (IDML)"
It required some patience and several tries, but I think that was due to hardware (memory) being overloaded by CC Cloud version or something. It was a 50 MB, 500-page file and took 17 minutes to convert/save,
Re-capping: from CCloud to CS5, don't use "Export" (to IDML); use "Save as" or "Save a copy" and select "for CS4 or later (IDML)".
Advice much appreciated.

• I have an issue that I cannot open Firefox, and I get the message "Firefox is already running..." and it says I need to close it or restart my computer.

There is a page on the support site that attempts to adress the issue...but it never says how to fix it. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+is+already+running+but+is+not+responding
Apparently there is a problem with the "profile", and on this support page, it has a link about working with the profile...if you go to that page, is tells you where the profile is, and the many things it does...but it does NOT say actually how to fix this problem. It tells you to go the the Help tab at the top of the browser, then select "Troubleshooting", and then under Profile, select "Open Containing folder"...which brings up the folder with all the files...but from there...it doesn't say what to do. I also have gone to the Start tab at the bottom of Windows (Windows XP--I've got Firefox 3.6.9) then Run and opened the profile box...but there are no instructions on what to do to fix the problem. I can open Firefox only by going to Crtl-Alt Delete and opening the process tab and ending the Firefox process...but this is not a fix. Help! thanks...

You need "sysinternal's process explorer", it is free and can replace the Microsoft process explorer, that you get by "CTRL+ALT+DELETE". Either program will allow you to kill the instances of FF that didn't die as they should have, when you closed them. Sysinternal is easier to use, it is a graphic display with many options. Do not push "CTRL+ALT+DELETE" twice unless you want to reboot, that is its default behaviour under Microsoft.

• Firefox won't open pdf files; uninstalled and reinstalled Firefoxes, updated all extensions,etc. still getting error messages.

When I attempt to load a .pdf file, a window pops up reading "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (4:4)"
I have tried rebooting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, making sure all plug-ins are updated (they are), disabling every other plug in to see if it was interfering (they weren't -- still got same message), and reinstalling adobe reader (and flash, just for good measure).

• Every time I start up it says it's already running. I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times...

Message states
"Firefox is already running but not responding. The old Firefox process must be closed to open a new window."
So then I click "Close Firefox".
Then I open it again and I get the same message....

• When I click on Firefox I get a message saying Firefox is already running, that I need to close Firefox or restart my computer and it still will not start, Why?

Firefox was working great until at least 3 persons were on my computer over the weekend. Now, when I want to open Firefox to go to the internet I get a message telling me that it is already running, that I need to close it down and if that doesn't work I should restart my computer. I have done all this, turned the computer off and back on many times, but I still get the same message. I do not know what the other people may have done when they were using my computer.

• When I attempt to start Firefox, I get an erroro message that says "Firefox is already running. You must close it...When I go to Task Manager, I find that it is not running. I uninstalled and re-installed, but the same thng happens.

I have received this message before, and used Task Manager to close the process. Then it would start OK.
This time, it won't start, and the same message is displayed.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

• Could not initialize the application's security ... Tried renaming cert8.db and secmod.db. Profile has r/w access. Still get message. Can only run as admin

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
Above error messa4bite occurs whenever I star Firefox without admin priv. Checked the profile directory listed in troubleshoot info -- has r/w access for system, admin and self Tried renaming cert8 and secmod as suggested in one forum response. Problem persists.\
My computer runs Win 7 Home Premium 64bit

If deleting or otherwise removing the cert8.db and secmod.db file doesn't help then try a new profile.

• I get a certificate error using firefox, I have tried deleting cert8.db, and resetting Firefox. I don't have any errors using IE 10. What can I do?

I used a link in an email to check the status of a repair from Acer and received the error "customercare.acer.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided.
(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)". I tried going directly to the Acer website, and went to support, then to check case status. I received the same error. I reactivated IE 10 on my OS and had no problems with certificate errors. I use McAfee Antivirus suite from ATT Uverse, but the troubleshooting did not indicate any settings for that, only ESET and Bitdefender.

Could you take a look at the certificate details?
If you click "I understand the risks" and "Add Exception", then the "View" button, does it look at all like the attached? I suggest using a new window to compare because when the certificate viewer is open, you cannot switch tabs in the same window.
You can cancel the viewer after checking, you may not want to create an exception until getting further comments.

• I can't get Adobe Flash to work on FF 25. Have downloaded and installed AF, but still get error message at Pandora, etc.

I'm using FF25 on Windows 7. When I go to Pandora and Grooveshark I get error messages telling me I need to install a newer version of Flash (v.10 or later). I've downloaded and installed (I think) Flash repeatedly, but I still get that error message. (Btw, I got the same message with IE, but I installed Flash for that and everything's fine.) I read somewhere that I needed to download the latest version of Real Player in order for Flash to work. I did that but get the same error messages. I am not tech savvy and not sure what to do now.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

* [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back soon.
Please try deleting the
pluginreg.dat
file located inside of your Firefox profile.
