Error message in ical

When I try to utilize iCalendar I get this error message:
Authentication of account "marilyn's calendar" failed. Please check your login and password information.
Any ideas what to do about this?
Thanks,
Marilyn

Welcome to Apple Discussions,
First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
If the issue persists go into iCal > Preferences > Accounts and remove any accounts you see here. If it is an account you need, re-add it.
If the issue persists reset your sync history and try again: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26867.html
Hope that helps.

10.6.8 cannot access iCloud's facilities - you can set Mail up manually and there is a hack which some people have used to sync calendars (see below) - you cannot sync any other type of data.
This is the situation with iCloud and Snow Leopard:
Your email, calendars, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud. Contacts and Bookmarks cannot be migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.  BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).

I have recently switched from MobileMe to iCloud and I now getting an error message in iCal :
"The server is currently unable to handle the connection due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. If this continues you should contact the server administrator.
You may try to connect to the server again or take the account offline."
Since I am working from home and I am not on a server other than iCloud I don't understand why I am getting this message. (for 3 days). How do I fix it?

    TomCT60,
Is your MacBook using Mac OS X 10.6.8 as indicated in your post? If so you will not be able to fully integrate with iCloud.
iCloud and Snow Leopard, by Roger Wilmut describes what iCloud options are available for Snow Leopard.
If you are using Lion, go to iCal>Preferences...>Accounts, and delete/re-add your iCloud CalDAV server.

  • I keep getting a popup error message in Ical "server does not recognize name/password

I keep getting a popup error message in Ical "server does not recognize name/password"  This started after they did the change to Icloud and extended our subcriptions.
    Tricia

I guess that the server name is incorrect, then.
    Did it ever work?
Delete the account, reboot the phone, then add it back and be sure you choose Yahoo as the mail server type. Everthing should then fill in automatically except your user name and password.

  • Error message in iCal program access to my email is not permitted.

I am having big trouble with iCal lately with multiple events and duplicate calendars proliferating. Someone was nice enough to give me something to put into Applescript to correct the problem. Now a new problem. When I enter an event and use iCal to notify other participants, I get a message that says:
The server responded with an error.
Access to account (my name and address) is not permitted.
    The server responded:
    “HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden”
    to operation CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation

Got to Ical, preferences, accounts. If you have a Mobile Me CalDav account listed, delete it. This is the source of the error message. Deleting this account will not interfere with mobile me syncing. (At least it didn't interfere with mine and the error message is now gone. Good luck.

  • Error message in ical, missing appts between iphone, mobile me and ical

I have had several appts disappear after syncing by plugging in my iphone to computer. I also got a message that told me calendar info on mobile me needed to be fixed, click replace if the most current info on computer. In this case, I sync'd iphone with ical, then clicked replace and info disappeared. I played around a bit with settings and now I get this message in ical:
Access to account “[email protected]” is not permitted.
    The server responded:
    “HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden”
    to operation CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation.
Any ideas what steps to take next? My only options are to go offline or cancel and if I cancel the message keeps returning. Thank you.

Please always post your operating system when you have a question since in many cases the answer depends on it.
Lioin 10.7.2 is required for iCloud - if you have anything earlier you can't use it directly.

Everytime I go into ical to make an entry it comes up with an error message then to choose 'go offline' or 'revert to server'.

I did try the suggestion of deleting ical icon on the desk top and then add a new one and so far it has worked!!!

  • I can't add appointments any longer by clicking mail attachments in apple mail (ics file), as I always get an error message in iCal

I get the following error message: The server responded with an error. https://p04-caldav.icloud.com:443/74673213/principal/ is not a location that supports this request. I can either Go Offline (appointment is added, but not to iCloud calendar) or Revert to Server (appointment is deleted).

Very interesting. It was written for doc type files: "OpenOffice Writer (defined)". (I made a translation maybe it is "default" in English version). Then i make it use another program and choose "Open Office Writer". Now it says OpeOffice Writer but no definer (or default) and it is working. Thank you very much Gnospen.

  • Error message in iCal that server is busy or unavailable

This has happened for the last monrth or so. No issues with actual server. Just annoying error message:

You may try to connect to the server again or take the account offline.
    Please help!

What I found works best is to do the following:
    Quit iCal on you
    Go to iCloud.com and sign-in
Create an event on the calendar
    Sign-out of iCloud.com
    Relaunch iCal
It will take a few seconds for the calender to resync, but you should see the new event pop up on the calender. After that, hopefully all is well.

  • ICal Error Message Using google apps

I keep getting an error message from iCal stating:
I went to support for google apps and he had me check the set up, decided it should be set up again for Mountain Lion (I upgraded about 4 weeks ago). About an hour after all of this was done I got the same basic error message, just the numbers in the address it says it doesn't support changed. Anybody else experience this?

Sorry, the error message may not be showing. Basically, it is not recognizing me as a user.

  • Weird message in iCal "Error Locating Account Information"

    Hi,
I've a problem syncing iCal with Google calendar.
It works in the beginning very well, but sometimes I receive the message:
    Error Locating Account Information
Request encountered an unexpected error (domain CalDAV No Calendar Home Error / code 1).
    And the calendar stops syncing.
What is this message ? Why works well and then, suddenly, stops ?(without change any setting)
    Mac OS X - 10.6.7
    iCal 4.0.4
    Thanks

    Greetings,
That is an error message coming back from the Google CalDAV server when iCal requests an update of your calendars.
1.) First make a backup of your calendars by clicking on each one, one at a time and going to File > Export > Export and then saving the files somewhere for safekeeping.
2.) Delete the Google account from iCal > Preferences > Accounts
3.) Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical and / or "ical"
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
4.) Launch iCal and then go to iCal > Preferences > Accounts and re-add your Google account being very careful to type in the user name and password correctly.
    See if that helps.
