Error message: insufficient disk space in the capture scratch

What does it mean, and how do I change it? I have two hard drives in the machine, one of them is almost full, and the other has 700 gb of space left.

It means that whatever drive you have set as the capture scratch drive now is too full to capture media to...and you need to switch to the other drive. You do this in the SYSTEM SETTINGS...

  • Why am I getting a message "Insufficient Disk Space"

I installed a new hard drive yesterday, and used Time Machine to restore all the information from my old hard drive.  Today I tried to open iPhoto and had a message that it was not found so I used the install disk for iPhoto and reinstalled.  I have my former iPhoto Library, but when I try to import new photos from my desk top, I get the message "Insufficient Disk Space" "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library".  I don't understand since I have 354 GB available on my hard drive. What do I need to do to fix?

That's an indication that the library is damaged. Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Insufficent disk space remaining in capture scratch

    Hi all,
I am capturing for a small project off dvcam. I have run into a problem where I am unable to capture more material, I am getting an error message and the
prompt: insufficent disk space remaining in capture scratch .
what does this mean and how do I free up space? I have 100 gb left on my external drive, so I don't get it...
    Grateful for advice.
    LOF

Turn off any limiting of file size you may have checked on in the scratch disk settings, and also be sure it's that external drive that is selected as your scratch disk.
The external drive you have also must be formatted Mac OS Extended.

  • Adobe Creative Suite 4 Error "Paused-Insufficient Disk Space!" Help!

    Hi guys,
I am downloading the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection CS4 Trial Version and everything went well until the time I downloaded 4 GB out of 5.43 GB. The Akamai Download Manager said: "Paused - Insufficient Disk Space!" I don't know why this would happen. I restarted the Download Manager a couple of times, but they came up with the same error. I don't know what to do! I am installing it on an external hard drive, maybe thats the problem. On my Local Disk I have 9 GB left, so I turned to my external drive, which had 445 GB, but after downloading the 4 GB, has 440 GB left. Can anyone please help me? Attached is a pic of what the error looks like. All help would be highly appreciated.

  • Trying to load photos, get message Insufficient Disk space

When I try to import pix. get a box saying Insufficient disk space. Iphoto cannot load images not enough free space on the volume containing your iphoto library.

Well that shoots that theory. Next,  reboot your Mac and try the library again just to see if rebooting helped.
If still not working launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you get the same message with the new, essentially empty library then the problem may lie in the iPhoto application. If you get no message with the new library the problem is with your library.
If you don't get that message with the new library you'll have to start over with a new library.  First open your iPhoto Library with the Finder and check inside the Originals folder to make sure your photos are still there.
If they are there do the following:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects. Your old library will still be available for further attempts at resurrecting it.

  • Error message "Insufficent disk space" with no reason

While I play back my soundtrack on Soundtrack Pro I sometimes get a message that SP has hit a "disk size" limit even though my drive has more than enough capacity. I was wondering if anyone got a similar message.
    Thank you!

i've run into similar problems while assembling large files (4+ hours) out of multiple bits. After watching my primary hard drive mysteriously dwindle from 16GB free to <300gb free during a work session yesterday, i figured out a simple solution - save your project early to a secondary (or tertiary) drive that's got *a lot* of free space. i started my project again, and saved almost immediately to my open 120gb scratch drive. i then was able to work through the rest of my project without my primary drive's free space mysteriously disappearing and without getting any more errors.
if you don't have a space scratch drive in your box, just go get one. it will be well worth it.

  • HP tx1250ea laptop Error Message "Low Disk Space" D drive (HP Recovery) is apparantly full

I have accessed the D drive but the only folder that appear to be there is the HP Recovery. In addition to the Recovery folder I was expecting to see other Windows files that could be safely deleted. I accessed the drive via Free Commander as recommended earlier in this forum. Not really computer savvy so would very much appreciate some help
    This question was solved.

The recovery partition is designed to be very full since it remains the same.
You can simply remove the drive letter from the D: partition and the message will go away. This will not affect the ability to use the recovery partition by the F11 recovery option; it will just be unlettered in Windows.

  • CC apps install failed "insufficient disk space"

After a long battle I have finally got the Adobe Creative Cloud installer working on my Mac.
Now every time I try to install an application (doesn't matter which) it fails with this error message "Insufficient disk space. Clear space on untitled and try again. (-30)".
I don't need to read any more useless replies from people saying that the OS drive needs space and that 20GB isn't enough to install Photoshop. I have a 240GB Intel SSD installed and I have over 50GB free. This should be sufficient since I previously had CS6 installed.
The only somewhat useful log file I could find is ~/Library/Logs/AdobeDownload/DLM_Native.log, the error it gives out is: "startDownload: Failed to start the download. The DLE status is -1"
Can anyone lead me in the right direction to getting this working, otherwise it's pretty much a waste of money if I can't even use the products.
    -Andrew

So I found the solution, the developers of the Creative Cloud installer seem to store downloaded files in /private/tmp and mine was only 256MB in a RAM disk.
Since I have an SSD I followed some simple directions to move /tmp and /private/tmp to a RAM disk. After much more searching I found another post (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1235272) that had a solution for my problem.
So to fix the "insufficient disk space on untitled" issue I moved (or you can delete) /System/Library/StartupItems/RamFS to disable the RamFS script from running on startup (I had no luck with chmod 000).
The ultimate solution to fix this is to get the Adobe developers to change the program to store temporary software downloads in a proper location and not rely on /private/tmp (or on Windows probably c:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\temp). There should be an option in the preferences panel to select the temporary files location in case someone doesn't have space on the main disk (or c:\).
FYI this is the optimization page that recommened the RamFS: http://blog.alutam.com/2012/04/01/optimizing-macos-x-lion-for-ssd/
Hope this helps someone else out!

  • Insufficient disk space during index build?

    Hi All,
I have a library of pdf documents on a network share that I am indexing weekly from my laptop (overnight).  Recently, the index build has failed with the error message "insufficient disk space".  I have contacted the server admin and I have been assured that we have many hundreds of gb free.  In any case, the available space is much larger than the size of the document repository.  As a test, I copied the entire library to my local hard drive and the index build worked perfectly.  I'm concerned that there is another network issue at play here that isn't apparent from the error message.
I haven't found anything on Adobe's website on this error.  Can anyone help?

Try emptying the TEMP folder. A lot of applications, including Acrobat use the TEMP folder as a temporary work space and it is limited by Windows.

  • Iphoto insufficient disk space

I have a new macbook pro and am transfering all my photos to it. when i import into iphoto, it starts fine, but halfway through it stops and gives me this error message "insufficient disk space: the volume for your iphoto library is out of space." Where do i manage these volume sizes (i can see where iphoto lets me manage libraries)?? since this is a new mac, i have TONS of disk space...right now i only have one iphot library, the default.

First Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then your original library is the culprit.
If that's the case  make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Insufficient disk space remaining in the capture scratch

I’m using a PowerBook G4, 1.25GHz processor with 2 GB DDR SDRAM whit Final Cut Express version 3.5.1. I tried to capture footage from my camera and received a message, “insufficient disk space remaining in the capture scratch.” I moved all the files: Audio render files, Autosave vault, Capture scratch, etc to a new folder on my desk top, but still get the same message when I try to capture. To capture, I click the play button on the screen; hit the mark in button at the point I want to start and the mark out button at the end. Then I click the clip button followed by the ok button on the log clip dialogue box. The program then goes through what I assume to be the capturing process leading to the error message. How do I overcome this? Thank you.

    Hi Geoffemn
The solution is to buy an external hard disk. Save the files to that. It does nothing to move the files from AV or scratch disk to a folder on the desk top. It still uses the same amount of space on the Power Book's HD. Of course you can look over current files on the HD and delete ones not needed. But that's a temporary fix. Large HD's have come way down in cost per GB. Go buy one. It should run at a speed of at least 7200 RPM and have firewire.

  • "Error:Out of Disk Space" message. Why?

I've been using an Apple G4 with FCP2 to capture footage through a Sony DSR-11 deck. I've set up a LaCie 500GB 7200, with most of its 500GB available, as capture disk. As late as last summer I used this system to capture 70+ hours of footage which was then edited on another system.
This time I've met only problems. I've tried capturing 5 different DV tapes. They seem to be capturing but at the end of the hour I get the message "Error: Out of Disk Space".
Does anyone know why this might be happening? I've checked the set up and everything seems in order. (These tapes are 4:3, the ones captured last year were 16:9 DV, so the only adjustment I had to make was un-checking "anamorphic".) I even tried capturing to the MAC hard drive to see if the problem was the LaCie drive, but I get the same same message. (The LaCie I've been using had been full with last year's capture scratch and the disk had been erased through LaCie's Silverlining program, so for a while I began to think that this may be the problem; that maybe I'd have to reformat the disk, etc. but this test seems to rule that out.)
    Thanks.
    John

Since I last wrote I’ve changed hard drives, run tests on them, as well as trash my preferences, which I did earlier. Still, if I try to capture a tape (to disks with up to 460 GB available) I get the message “Error: Out of Disk Space”. The only thing I can think of doing now is deleting and then reinstalling the Final Cut software.
Here I’m kind of dumb and don’t want to make any mistakes. This Apple has been a stand-alone computer used only for Final Cut and the software was installed when I got it. The rest of my life has been conducted on a PC. So is there anything I should do before deleting Final Cut? Should I be doing anything to protect exiting project files, captured clips, thumbnail cache etc.? Will Final Cut just recognize these when I re-install? What do I do? Just open the Mac hard drive, identify the Final Cut application and drag it to Trash? Do I need to empty the trash first or should I leave it there for safety?
I look at the instructions that came with my ancient Final Cut 2 disks. Here’s what they say in full:
To install QuickTime, follow these steps
    1) Insert the Final Cut Pro CD in your CD drive. (I see I have two disks: one “Final Cut Pro 2”, the other “Final Cut Pro 2:Tutorial Media” Do I need to install the second?)
    2) Double-click the CD’s icon, then double-click the QuickTime Installer folder.
    3) Double-click the QuickTime Installer icon and follow the onscreen instructions.
    4) When the Choose Installation Type window appears, select Custom, then click Continue.
    5) In the next window, click Select All, then continue
This replaces any previous versions of QuickTime and ensures a complete installation of all components required by Final Cut Pro.
    6) When a message appears saying installation was successful, click Restart.
Is this all straightforward or might there be any potential pitfalls in the above instructions for someone unfamiliar with installing software on a Mac (In my case old software and an old Mac – a G4)? I guess I should also ask if you folks out there agree that re-installing Final Cut may be the answer to my problem, that this error message is the result of a glitch that has arisen in the installed version of Final Cut.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    John
