Squirrel, This problem occurs after having selected an existing JPEG file when trying to create a new catalog, instead of entering the name of a new catalog. To recover, rename the LR preferences file and restart LR. Name and location of the LR preferences file can be found here. Beat

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

  • Error message in Lightroom 3

I just purchased and installed Lightroom 3 (my first Lightroom purchase). It installed properly, and converted my catalog from Elements 7.0. However, every time I click on a photo or a keyword I get an error message saying that Lightroom has experienced an error and has to close. I then get an option of Debug, Send error message, or don't send. No matter what I click, the program closes. I wasted 2 1/2 hours of my day off today on the phone with Adobe tech support. After all this time, they told me this is a "permission issue" with Windows XP, and that I have to contact either Dell or Microsoft. I then called Microsoft tech support, and they told me that for $60.00 a tech can call me back within 24 hours. I said OK, but they didn't call back today, and I have to work all day tomorrow. Does anyone have any idea what to do????
And another issue: I also bought Elements 8.0, but couldn't convert my catalog from 7.0. The Adobe tech was unable to find my 7.0 catalog on my computer (he took over my computer), even though obviously it must be somewhere because I HAVE a catalog in 7.0 with 35,000 photos in it!
I'm stressed beyond belief by all this. Help!!!!!

Try deleting the prefs file. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0
Photoshop Lightroom "Preferences" and "Database/Catalog" files?Often, a buggy prefs file causes all kinds of bad behaviour from Lightroom.
If this doesn't help, then your Lightroom catalog converted from PSE, might not be very "healty". To check if this is true, try createing a new empty catalog (File->Create New Catalog) and import some pictures to play with. See if the error goes away.

  • Error message in Lightroom 5 when choosing edit in Elements 12.

When I want to send a picture to the Elements 12 editor in the Lightroom 5.2 menu, I get a long error message and a second one about a missing file, libiomp.dll. The Elements editor starts anyway but I always get that message. The library file in question is present in a few places on my C: drive including in the Organizer directory. What is the problem? Thanks for any help.

The problem has been solved by consumer service to my total satisfaction. Thanks guys.

  • Error Message in Lightroom 5.7 in slideshow module: "dynamiclinkmediaserver has encountered an error."

I'm working in Lightroom 5.7 on an iMac with Yosemite iOS installed.  When I go to create a slideshow from a collection of images, I'm getting the following error:
    dynamiclinkmediaserver has encountered an error.
This appears to cause a subsequent issue - when I go to select an itunes track to play as part of the slideshow (.m4a) the track isn't recognised & I have the error " the selected file is not a valid music file".  The music file doesn't appear to be an issue - I can easily load it into my laptop (using LR4) & it will play as part of the slideshow.
Not really sure to go with this issue - has anyone got any ideas?
    Would really appreciate some assistance
    Sarah

Similar issues appear to be listed here: LR5: playing and importing video (e.g. *.mov) not working: DynamicLinkMediaServer not working & here: dynamiclinkmediaserver has encountered an error. message when dealing with any video in LR5, anyone have any suggestions?
I'm Running LR5.7, with Yosemite 10.10.1. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling lightroom & checking my admin permissions but am at a total loss.

  • Help with error message opening lightroom 5 on macbook?

I downloaded lightroom 5 on my macbook. i have os-lion. When I open the program and error message appears  saying " error switching modules". I am missing all the options to import photos. When I try to click on lightroom preferences at the top of the screen nothing pops up.  It seems like i am missing some of the options and the navigation pane. Do i need to update something else to be able to import photos and click between module pages?

    55AB,
It appears the error message you have is an ink system failure error message. While it looks like your printer needs to be services there is also a thread with some suggestions out there with some results for this same issue. I have linked this thread this post. You will want to look at message 16 and 17 for what seems to be a resolution for your same printer. Hope this helps.

  • Error when launching lightroom 3.3 in windows

I am receiving an error when I try to open lighroom 3.3.  I've only had the program installed for a few days on my newly installed windows 7, 64-bit machine.  All windows and adobe updates installed, as of yesterday.  The last time I used lightroom, I edited a file "141.jpg" that came from my SD card plugged into the computer.  I dont recall saving this file, as I was just playing with settings.  I closed the program and now, a day later, I click on lightroom and a text box appears on my windows desktop that reads "Lightrrom - Opening Catalog: IMG_0141.JPG.lrcat"  Immediately after, an error box appears and says Adobe lightroom has stopped working, with the only option to close.   I have searched the forums and was unable to find the user/appdata/prefs folder to delete (using explorer and the search function).  I have uninstalled twice and reinstalled the 64bit then 32bit versions with the same error.  I have also deleted the lightroom folder that appears in "My Pictures" folder prior to the second reinstall.  I just bought the serial and put it in yesterday and now it doesnt work!   Please help. Thanks

This situation arises when you try to create a new catalog from within LR, and then pointing to an existing file instead of entering a new folder name to be used for the catalog (I've filed a bug against it).
You only can solve this in two ways (Alt/Ctrl-Key during start does not help):
    1) Rename the existing JPG
Rename the file IMG_0141.JPG (if you know where it resides) to something like IMG_0141_Ori.JPG
Start LR, this will start LR in a fresh, new catalog called "IMG_0141.JPG"
File/Open Recent to open your previous catalog
Delete the newly created folder IMG_0141.JPG
Rename the file IMG_0141_Ori.JPG back to IMG_0141.JPG
    2) By deleting/renaming your preferences file
    Rename/Delete the LR preferences file
(File locations see this KB article)
Start LR, this will start LR with default preferences/catalog
    I would recommend solution 1.

  • I'm getting an error message in Lightroom 6 when I try to export a photo. It's "The specified folder is not writable". It doesn't matter which folder I pick, I get the same message. However, if I open the image in photoshop and then save it, it works just

I've already reset my lightroom preferences, didn't work. I also uninstalled, and reinstalled lightroom. Didn't work either.
I have no problems with any other programs including photoshop, so this has to be an issue with lightroom.
Also, I can import from a memory card using lightroom and save to them to the folders just fine, the error only comes when I'm exporting a photo after I'm done editing in.
I'm running windows 8.1 and the folders are all onedrive folders. (I have unlimited onedrive storage so I take full advantage of it.) I've always saved them this way, and only started having trouble after updating to Lightroom 6

The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. I will try to check for other problems with the OneDrive troubleshooter though: Running the OneDrive troubleshooter - Windows Help

  • I received an error message in Lightroom 5 , Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit

I was wondering now that I deleted my preview cache after receiving the lighgtroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache  and needs to quit  , light room 5 opened fine now , but  I now have no previews showing  up , all I get is blank gray boxes ...  have  I lost everything ?
how do I get the pictures or previews back ...all my folders I had catalogued , now show only grayed boxes where the previews were ...  can I get this back ?

I will check for the meta data.. as to hows this adobes fault....first let me ask do you work for or get paid for by adobe?  If the answer is no, which i presume it is...then that answers it... how is it , or better yet why is it a billion dollar company, has or offers no support, no phone number, no email nothing...but depend on third party people who may or may not know or give the correct info to help, and do this free, all the while adobe makes $$$ and runs smaller companies that may have actually better products by getting or buying off reviews etc..that only rave, but never mention issues...the issue im having has been reported by adobe users since version 1, yet has not been addressed or even mentioned...why shouldusers get little true support from adobe, get a product that has un addressed issues is messed up...it would be like ford making newer vehicles say a f150, advertising all the bells and whistles , but knowing since their 2008 model  that if you go over 70 mph for more than 100 miles the engine will just shut off, then have know way to contact them to solve the problem...had no mechanics to fix it...no warranty...that would be insane...but yet companies like adobe and microsoft do this all the time, but since its notlife threatening as driving a truck would be somehow we accept it as ok....yet it sickens me the hardearned money spent on their products, its an investment,  like whether or not to go canon or nikon..your investing in the company its not easy to switch once you make that intial choice...  adobe and microsoft continously advertise all the so called (al beit meaningless) upgrades or improvents which are more fluff than  worth while improvent, but the way they present them you feel you need them...if they went back to the true ethics of buisness and american pride they would focus moe money and attention to customer service,  and truly improving the product rather than how to sell more...but then they know like my camera example once you choose your theirs...sad...i had an adobe salesman out right lie to me and misrepresented a product, as i was having an issue getting sound to work in creating a video of my granddaughters birth...i was using an older version, told him all the info , he said if i upgraded i would have no trouble, so i did...the sound still didnt work . Then they suggested another program to convert the files more money down...the other company also makes video editing programs, once that work...and cost less...but i am all tied up in adobe spending hundreds all ready...sad ...very sad...now that ive had some issues and have gone back and done more researching i see all tge issues, many go back 10 plus years and have yet to be addressed...yet many otherless known third party companies had similar issues, corrected them , are cheaper, have support teams but arent pushed in every photo magazine etc...and arent known where giants like Adobe that dont address there issues have or offer no Adobe paid support, yet through their money and muscle to dominate magazines, and web, by controlling how things are precieved....sad in deed...the more i learn, and experience the sadder things are....but enough complaining sadily im invested in adobe for now till i get rich,  just want the crap to work...so i can get my cherished pictures , once in a lifetime pics of my granddaughter  back...to bad people have to place faith in a company and risk loosing all the pictures that mean something to them, and realize the comoany only truly cares about $$$...sad

  • I have my catalog on an external hard drive, trying to open it and the error message saying "lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" how can i fix this as all my work in in this

I have let it close down put it keeps appearing

I assume you know where your catalogue file (the lrcat file) is located. In the same folder is a previews lrdata folder which you should delete or rename in Explorer, then start LR again.
If I've made incorrect assumptions above, sorry, and we'll go back over it from the start.

  • Lightroom 5.7.1 64 bit keeps crashing! Tried everything! Do you understand this error message?

Please help... The error message below has only recently started appearing. Before I would get a rather standard error message that Lightroom has an unexpected error and needs to quit. I tried deleting the previews.lrdata in catalogs and that helped for a few minutes.
I removed the preferences folder. Didn't do anything.
I uninstalled and reinstalled. That did nothing.
Please help. I can't do a thing in Lightroom.
    Thank you!

Disk I/O error usually means your disk is going bad.
PS - If you haven't tried moving your catalog (the whole folder it's in) to a different disk, then you haven't tried everything .

  • Lightroom CC error message - cannot open previews - program closes when hit ok

Suddenly after using Lightroom CC for several months, I cannot open it.  I get an error message saying "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from preview cache" and has to close; will fix next time.  Many times later, still cannot open it.  Anyone else with this problem or how to fix it?  Thanks.

I had exactly the same issue and fixed it almost instantly by following the suggestion to rename the previews.lrdata folder in my latest lightroom backup file. This is the same as deleting it. When you then open Lightroom, it will regenerate the missing previews quickly and you will be back in business. My problem was caused by an interruption in the backup process which corrupted the file. John W.
