Error message need to free disk space-how do I do that?

I am getting an error message when I try to burn a dvd.  "Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets"  How do I free the space?

By deleting or temporarily removing items (non system / not DVD related) from your HD.

  • Got error message "not enough free disk space to encode remaining assets"

Although my media folder contains 32 GB for my iMovie project, and the hard drive says it has 39 GB free, it still give this message. I thought that would be adequate to burn the movie in iDVD. What is the problem?

I need a couple more gigs on the volume the application was on
    Let me rephrase that:
You need a couple more gigs on the volume your SYSTEM is on. (That's where the system puts all temp files it needs and where the apps put the temp files THEY need)

  • Error msg: "Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets."

I am trying to burn a DVD that includes a slideshow and short movie.  Total project is 3.5GB.  I am getting this error message:  "Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets."  My hard drive has 600 GB left.  Can anyone help?

If you can't free up enough space by deleting items, get an external hard drive and move the files there. An absolute minimum of 25 GB is required by iDVD.

  • When i try to download a file i get the message not enough free disk space

what could be wrong when i get this message" not enough free disk space"? could it be the hard drive? p.s. my computer won't boot up except in recovery mode

Yes. The disk drive has too much data on it. You are either going to have to move some to other disk drives or delete some.

  • IDVD error msg Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets

I get this error message on iDVD, does this mean I need to free up hard disc space... "Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets"

How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Locate your iMac's hard drive icon on the OS X desktop. Click the icon once, then use the keyboard key combination Command-I. This will give you additonal info about your iMac's internal hard drive.

  • When attempting to burn a 1.2GB video using Magic DVD I get Burning Prep error. Not enough free disk space...... I have tried all I know to no avail. This have just started!!

When attempting to burn a 1.2 GB video using iDVD I get a "Burning Preparation Error.. Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaing assetts" This has only justed started to happen.  I have used this programme many times before in the past. Can any one help as I have tried all I know?

Yes, 44GB is sufficient. I don't think space is the problem.  I don't know about iMovie but iDVD can only use the boot drive for its scratch disk.
You might be getting that error due to some damage file in the project.
Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
Also run Disk Utility and verify the disk.  If errors are indicated you will need to boot iknto your system install disk and repair the disk with Disk Utility (see the Utilities menu in the first window after the language selection window).

  • I am not able to update iTunes keeps popping up message saying no free disk space I checked and there is enough to support the upgrade but I cant figure out why it wont let me. Help anyone!

So heres the deal, I updated my iphone and in order to put any music on it or even ringtones I have to have the most updated version of iTunes, unfortunately my macbook wont allow the update, I do have a lot of pictures and song stored on here but I have no documents I have deleted everything the only thing left on here is what the macbook came with. I checked and it says that I have enough memory so is there another reason I cant update. When I try and check for the update option in iTunes it says its up to date but I have version 10 something so I know its old, I haven't been able to update anything on here. Do I have to take it to the store or is there something that I can fix on my own because my warranty is up and I have nothing but problems when I go into an actual apple store.

If you want to try to clear even more disk space see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5872318?tstart=0

  • Problem burning dvd, message not enough free disk space for encoding remaining assets

I have never had a issue with burning dvd's before now I am getting an error message

How much hard drive space do you have remaining?  How much data are you trying to burn (i.e. are you sure the capacity of the disc is high enough?)

  • Free Disk Space - how to tell how much there is.

I'm guessing it would be by way of an external app, but does anybody have any specific ideas?
    Windows? Mac?

    Hi,
I see John has already answered the question.
A couple of things to remember, depending upon your use case:
if you do try to use df file , you probably want to use df -k file to get the size in kb rather than blocks
if you are trying to get the size of a removable volume under OS/X, you need to test the particular volume has been mounted first otherwise LrFileUtils.volumeAttributes() will return the volume size for the root directory rather than for the specific volume. I've been caught out by that before. I normally use LrFileUtils.exists() to test an expected file is present before testing the volume attributes.

  • Erased free disk space what does it do thats diff from normal trash?

    Hi guys
what does erase fre disc do that is diff from normal trash deletion?
    thanks so much.

For one it has nothing to do with Trash. It does as it says: erases all the free space on the hard drive. It's a security precaution, nothing more.

  • Not enough free disk space to export photos

Apple Mavericks OSX 10.9.4, processor 3.06 GHz, memory 4gb 1067 MHz
    iphoto 8.1.2 (424)
I am having trouble exporting a sizable photo album slideshow from iPhoto to a flash drive.
I have spent countless hours captioning some 3000 family photos into about 20 albums. The number of photos in albums ranges from 20 to 295.
I've been successful in exporting each album slideshow to a 16gb flash drive except for the two largest ones, with 232 (351mb) and 295 photos (555mb). For these two, I get a very quick error message "not enough free disk space. Free up space on the disk and try again." There is plenty of space on my 16gb flash drive, and my desktop has more than 440gb free space out of 495 total.
I've tried updating iPhoto to v. 9.1 without success. Is this an iPhoto issue? I'd rather not switch to iLife and have to pay for it.
I am very average at systems stuff, so please make your suggestions in language I can understand! Any ideas are welcome and appreciated!

How did you arrive at the numbers you got for available space? Some things are not counted in the amount of space depending on what you did (like local Time Machine snapshots, etc) and some things are. I use the "df -kt" (shows everything in KBytes - use "-mt" if you prefer to see the numbers in Mbytes or "-gt" to see in GBytes) command in a Terminal window to list the total size, amount used, amount free for all mounted volumes.
Do you have "Read&Write" permissions on the disk you're trying to save to? Perhaps there are some "hidden" folders taking up a lot of space?

  • Issue 2: Not enough free disk space

Well, now that I'm here, I will try to figure out all my problems.
Ignoring the fact that my MacBook won't turn on, once it goes back to normal, I hope I can solve another thing. Two or three times, while I've been working in heavey Word documents in my Macbook, a message box appears when I click on save or when it tries to do "Autorecovery". It says there's not enough free disk space for me to save that file. What I do every time is I select all, then copy and then quit word. I open it again, paste and save. Everything is fine, but I'd really like to know *** is wrong since I do have a lot of free disk space and this doesn't happen unless it's a heavy file in word. Should I get rid of some apps? Unused files? I don't have that many... I think my Macbook is acting weird since I've almost got nothing stored in it but files, pictures and songs. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again?

Get Info on your hard drive or open a finder window and see how much space is available on your drive - that's at the bottom. Music, pictures, movies use more disk space than most files. You might have enough space sometimes because various programs - like Safari - cache material and the caches can get large. Some caches empty themselves and others need to be emptied; you can empty the Safari cache from one of the menus.
