Error message - not enough disk space to import

Hi all,
I was trying to import a video I have in Quick Time to iMovie in order to burn it to disc and when I tried I got an error messsage that said not enough disk space to import the movie. I have about 26 GB on my hard drive. How much do I need? Or am I going abut this all wrong? I tried to do it thru disk Utility and iDVD but it is obviously not compatible. I have iMovie 5.
Thanks for any help.
iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hello Victry,
do i get this right: duration almost 2.5 hours and file size 27 MB? .... don't seem right to me - you sure it's not 27 GB? that would explain the import problem.
apart from the file size: 120 min. is the limit for a normal 4.7 GB DVD so there's either the possibility to chop the movie in two parts or burn to dual layer DVD, if you have that option.
"codecs: base, windows media audio 9/standard, windows media video 9 standard"
the file you have on your Mac uses a codec that Macs don't easily digest and can usually only handle with the help of third-party software, in this case Flip4Mac ( http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm ). unfortunately i'm not really an expert on WMV files
i would suggest the following(assuming this file is as big as i think):
1. try to get hold of an external HDD and move the file there
2. convert with QT/Flip4Mac to DV and cut in two parts
3. import each part into separate iDVD projects and burn to DVD
hope this helps

  • Error Message, Not Enough Disk Space...

Heres the problem I ripped a copy of a City Council Meeting from a dvd to my iBook, the file is 483mb on disk, I have 11 gigs available, when I try to import it into iMovie to get only the sections I need, it says I do not have enough disk space, how is that possible and is there a workaround?
Edit: I am on the road and only have my iBook with me.

Does iMovie HD support MP4 files directly? If not then it wants to covert the file to a full DV format file. As I said before, this is 13GB per hour, it is a time thing and it doesn't matter if your original file is 200MB, 400MB, or 1MB. If it is an hour it needs 13GB. If it is longer that an hour, it will need even more drive space.
So how long is the movie?
If iMovie HD does support MP4 files directly (I think iMovie 6 does) then when you start the new project are you telling it to keep it in MP4 format or are you opening the new project as a DV project, where it will want to convert anything imported into DV format?

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I need to make a master DVD that can then be duplicated in bulk as a single layer disc.  This surprises me because I tried burning a different DVD project that has worked in the past which is also 4.5 GB and now I could not burn that either.  I also reencoded some material to get the new project down to 4.4 GB but it still would not burn.  Any ideas are appreciated.

  • Keep getting Failure to Compile Error for Not Enough Disk Space

I have burned this dvd once already, made a few changes and went to build again and it keeps telling me there's not enough disk space to compile assets. There is over 15GB of free space for a 2.8GB project, what am I doing wrong?
Any help would be great, this is a wedding gift and Im running out of time!!!!

15Gb isn't all that much, really - especially if you are making a DL disc. In order to create the files necessary there needs to be enough space for the final output, plus the same again for the build files, plus enough temporary space and room for encoded media and so on. If your project is 8Gb in total, you won't have enough space with 15Gb free!
Try to clear another 5Gb and make sure all of the space is on an internal drive, then have another go.

  • Keep getting error 101 not enough disk space

I have tried downloading the trial for cs6 using Chrome and Firefox and I get the same error from the download assistant. I have plenty of disk space so that isn't the problem. Please help!

I have plenty of disk space so that isn't the problem.
It could be. The download assistant has issues with large partitions over 1TB. So in fact you may have to downsize. Anyway, you're not providing enough info to be any more specific.

  • IPhoto 11 - Not enough disk space to import photos

i am trying to import from my canon EOS 7D. The memory card holds 4GB and I have 150 GB free space on a 320 GB MacBook drive (so it says). iPhoto11 wont import any photos from the Canon or from a large file of photos on the same internal Macbook hard drive.
It seems that iPhoto is is misreading the available space on my HD. I've repaired disk permissions, rebooted, emptied trash, etc etc
    Any help please?

    A few thoughts to try
    - have you renewed your iPhoto preference file? -- A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
    - Depress the option key and launch iPhoto and create a new library and try there - see if that works
    - Create a new user on your system and create a new library there and see if that works

  • IMovie 6 keeps saying "not enough disk space to import..."

    Hi Everyone
My iMovie 6 has started giving this message when I try to import raw movie clips from my digital camera (already on my desktop). The program is telling me I have nearly 150GB of free space so I don't get this conflicting information...?
    Can anyone help please?

I'd suggest to delete some apps or photos. The program could have false information. Sorry if this does not help.

  • What does error message when trying to burn DVD from iDVD mean "not enough disk space to burn the remaining assets"

I created a DVD in idvd and now when trying to burn to DVD using external burner, I get the error message
"not enough disk space to encode the remaining assets". I am using a brand new blank DVD.
I have read the help info on computer but hasnt proved helpful.
    Any suggestions?

iDVD requires a fair amount of disk space to carry out the encoding process; depending on your project, you may need to have over 25 GB free space on your startup hard drive.  How much free space do you have?

  • Not Enough Disk Space while installing WebLogic 6.1sp1 on AIX

While installing WebLogic Server I get the error message "Not Enough Disk Space"
for the root (/) file system, although I am trying to install it in the /weblogic
file system that has enough space for the installation.
What is that extra info that I need to pass to the installer so that installs
the server in /weblogic and not complain about lack of disk space in /.
The relevant properties for installation under silent mode are as listed below:
    ### BEA Home Directory
    BEAHOME=/weblogic/sftw
    ### Product Installation Directory
    USER_INSTALL_DIR=/weblogic/sftw/6.1
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi.
I believe the installation creates temporary files in the /tmp directory from root.
If that is part of your root file system then this may be the cause of your problem.
Try changing your environment variable TMPDIR or TMP_DIR. If you are doing the
silent install with the java command line try setting java.io.tmpdir to a different
    filesystem on the command line.
    Hope this helps,
    Michael

  • Not enough disk space for asset ecoding

    Hi all,
I have a dvdsp project with:
    a feature: 3.3 gb
    dvd extra: 289
    menu assets: 65mb
and shows that it is 3.8 mb all together, but when i try to build/format it stops the build at the menu and gives the error message: Not enough disk space for asset encoding. I was running a test build when this happened. i have yet to add the audio for the extra thinking i still had some room on here to work with.
I have burned dvd's up 4.5 without any issues. any ideas why this is happening?
    thanks,
    Mark

I'm having the same problem. Except I have tried to switch locations for the Current Build and each time it says Not enough disk space for asset encoding. I have a 500GB raid with almost 400GB free and then another 500GB raid with about 130GB free. I really need help on this pronto!
Another message it now brings up after it starts Encoding Assets: Insufficient disk space for encoding. Please free up disk space on your encoding target drive. Please Help!!

  • "Not enough disk space" when there seems to be

I'm a newbie to iDVD and iMovie (my last Mac was a Performa 6360--still using it for the family budget) and got my daughter a MacBook as a graduation gift. She is using it to combine movie inputs from a wedding/reception that come from digital camreas and a couple of video cameras. We went to Flip4Mac to get the necessary features to import .wmv files (only way we could download one of the vidoe cameras).
Issue: When she tries to import vidoes already on her computer, she gets: "The file could not be imported: There is not enough disk space to import Macintosh HD/Users/julie/pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/Roll8/CIMG1442.AVI"
Basically the question is how to get more room on her disk to import and to save? She seems to only be able to Save--she can't Save Project as an option because it says she doesn't have enough disk space (she's deleted the trash). Help says you need to have more than 400mb of free space or it gets difficult but the indicator shows 28.8GB free space left...so there seems to be some kind of disconnect?? (Or maybe we're talking apples and oranges?)
On top of that, she also gets the same error message when she tries to burn the project onto a disk???
I went through the first 5 pages of the forum and couldn't see a similar problem, but then I may have not known what to look for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...she's trying to give the DVD as a Wedding gift--somewhat belated.

  • "Not enough disk space" when there seems to be (+ rapid memory consumption)

[Note: I originally posted this in the iDVD section, but due to an answer I got there to another question and further conversations with my daughter, figured out this is probably an iMovie question?]
I'm a newbie to iDVD and iMovie and Forums (my last Mac was a Performa 6360--still using it for the family budget). I got my daughter a MacBook as a graduation gift. She is using it to combine movie inputs from a wedding/reception that come from digital camreas and a couple of video cameras. We went to Flip4Mac to get the necessary software/features to import .wmv files (only way we could download one of the video cameras was by going from PC to Mac--can't remember if it was a Sony or Canon).
Issue: When she tries to import vidoes into iMovie HD 6.0.3 which have already been transferred to her computer, she gets: "The file could not be imported: There is not enough disk space to import Macintosh HD/Users/julie/pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/Roll8/CIMG1442.AVI" [She says this is about a 4 min. clip.]
Basically the question is how to get more room on her disk to import and to save? She seems to only be able to Save--she can't Save Project as an option because it says she doesn't have enough disk space (she's already deleted the Trash). (Or maybe we're talking apples and oranges?)
[Even more disturbing, just in the last couple of days with only a little time spent on the computer, the 28.8 GB has dropped to 2.3GB--obviously there is something she is doing that she is not aware of or shouldn't be doing that is consuming memory at a rapid pace.] On top of that, she also gets the same error message when she tries to burn the project onto a disk using iDVD???

    Hello Karstn Schluter,
This is fm's daughter who is havin ghte difficulites. at the end you tell me to try to answer 1-8 so i will try.
1- how can you tell if the avi is containing divx? or not?? do I need to just keep this in mind when importing these files
2- I have not brought in an external drive. I did try making my laptop computer a harddrive so I could import my imovie poject to my eMAC at one point, but it was not allowing me to do that either. Because I had to have it in DVD form or something
3- No I did not segment the internal drive....sorry How do you do that??? Right now I am trying to find out what is taking up all the memory and Hard Disk Drive space....i do not know how to do that either....Do you know how???
4-Yes I know flip4mac is for wmv....I guess what that question was emplying was that I also have wmv files that I am trying to import to imovieHD and that is not working either...I can get my avi to get into imovieHD, but not my wmv. files
5-THank you for the tip with the trash then another question to this one how do you delet projects that are taking up memory that are no longer in use?
6-Thank you for the tip...so then ignore the not enough disk space.....how can you alter the disk space so that you can save the project under save project as and not just save project?
7- Sorry my dad was miss informed I cannot import the wmv. files to imovie and I cannot import imovie to iDVD I only have transferred one and then all of the other files are not seen as movies so I can not import them?? Does that make since
8- When we were useing the Sony Camera originally we could not import the video to the MAC because it did not have the correct firewire cable and it would not been read onto the MAC computer. So, we have to buy the flip4mac equipment so that I would be able ot download the inoformation to the computer by a wmv.file dvd so we are having difficulites trying to import that file.
I hope these answers clear up the question a little bit more and sorry that your answers brought out more questions. Thank you very much for helping me. I was using a different program in my college class so changing to imovie and idvd has been a huge struggle for me. Thank you once again.

For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.
