Error Message nsp.kext
Hi,
Whenever I am updating my OS or installing any application I get an error massage saying that I nsp.kext needs to be updated.
How critical is this file? Can I ignore this message as I cannot see any problems functionally as of now?
Thanks

SM56KUSBAudioFamily.kext error message
I am using a Mac Book Pro 15" installed with OS Lion 10.7.3. I have got the error message "SM56KUSBAudioFamily.kext" displayed many times. I wonder why this happened. I never install or connect any USB modem or USB audio device to my Mac Book Pro. How do I solve this problem?
Back up all data.
Boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the Recovery desktop appears, reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin. -

GeneIOUSBIDE.kext error message
When installing updates or software I often get the following error message
"/system/library/extensions/GeneIOUSBIDE.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update"
Where does this file come from - the error message keeps appearing - the Apple Store has been no helpUnless you are connecting your mac to an ancient drive or device that does not have a USB jack, you will never need this... Just delete it, it does no harm to do so. This system extension is not even needed on any Intel based mac because support for the cable, example linked to below, is provided by OSX. You can safely go to System/Library/Extensions and remove GeneIOUSBIDE.kext. If you are leery of doing that, Just keep a copy of it somewhere so you can reinstall it if you think it caused a problem.
Here is what the cable looks like that this Extension is supporting, so you can see for yourself if you will ever really need to have this Extension installed.

Error message Re: Systems File "AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext"
On 10-3-14 I received this error message:
The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.
I looked at the file and found that it was installed in 2012. Now I am wondering if my machine is corrupted. I did just install an HP Printer update from Apple, which may or may not have preceded the presentation of the error message.
Thanks for any feedback. In Finder > Go > Go to folder, type in /System/Library/Extensions
Look for AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext and move it to the Trash.
Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
Reboot your Mac. -

I received this error message: The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/ACard6280ATA.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling ... . What is this about? What is ACard6280ATA.kext?
I'm still with you, just having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that you reinstalled OS X, which is like shooting a mosquito with a cruise missile, yet the problem remains.
Here is the KB article for your review: Reinstalling Mac OS X
Admittedly there is not much to it, but it should have eradicated the problem.
I would guess that the 17 "hp_" messages have something to do with Hewlett-Packard and in fact I do use an HP printer with the computer. I uninstalled the printer software and reinstalled it. The printer seems to work fine, but the kernel extension error messages still keep appearing. I'm inclined just to delete these 17 kernel extensions and then, if the printer doesn't work correctly, unintall and reinstall the printer software again. Sound sensible?
It certainly does. The only thing I can think of is that the OS reinstallation did not recognize those kernel extensions and left them untouched, AND the HP uninstaller did not remove them, AND the HP installer did not perform correctly. Having suffered through several HP botched software attempts I tend to believe that remains a posssibility.
If you are so inclined, I would remove the troublesome .kext files as you say, then reboot. Be prepared for the printer to stop working, but once you remove them try the printer again anyway. The vast majority of printers do not require any specific downloads since their drivers are already built into OS X.
As a last resort try reinstalling OS X again (I know...) and run Software Update to bring everything up to date. Apple released some new printer drivers a few weeks ago.
Finally, if this doesn't work post the same question as a new topic since I am out of ideas. A new topic will get more attention than unresolved questions with responses. -
Error message: /System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext
All of a sudden I keep getting this error message:
The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.Try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -
VMB5000.kext error message
Since purchasing my iMac in 9/09, I have gotten the following error message when downloading almost every update from Apple:
"/System/Library/Extensions/VMB5000.kext was improperly installed and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it or contact the product's vendor for an update."
What are the implications of this and what can I do about it? There does not appear to be any problem with functionality that I can identify. Thanks for any help you can give me.HI and welcome to Apple Discussions....
In a Finder window select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon.
On the right open the Library folder, then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.SoftareUpdate.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.

PACESsupport.kext error message
I'm getting an error message saying that PACESsupport.kext is improperly installed. I notice that I can't do searches here at the Mac site. Is this part of the system software? It's labelled a Kernel extension. Should I reinstall system?
Hi stemperley;
With the information you provided, we can't answer your question. Please provide more details such as a exact copy of the error message and software you have installed.
Do you run Digidesign software?

I'm getting this message in startup, and occasionally at other times. I'm also getting crashes when the Mac is left to perform a function for a long time, eg a Time Machine backup or large file copy. Not sure if these two problems are related. Can anyone help?
The system extension "/System/Library/Caches?com.apple.romextensions/INIC1632Root.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact teh product's vendor for an update.<<</div>
Thanks
ThomasI recommended to you on twitter that you try deleting all contents of that cache directory... That's generally considered to be safe, it really should just be cached data. But what would a .kext be doing in there? And if it was in there, how would the OS find it, given that they belong in System/Library/Extensions?
The question-mark in the filename shown in the error message makes me wonder if in fact that file is in the cache directory at all. Maybe you could have a quick look and verify that it's not there? Then maybe use Sherlock and see if the file INIC1632Root.kext exists anywhere.
If you find the .kext you could sanity check it: does it have reasonable permissions, is it in the right directory? You could try giving it a different extension (to disable it.) For reference:
http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/02/what-is-kextwhere-is-kext-how-to-install-kext /
If you don't find that file anywhere, then that would be very interesting.
I googled to see if there was anything suggestive about the name as far as possible hardware or vendors (tried 1632, C1632, etc.) Nothing leapt out.
Hope this helps...

I am getting an error message that indicates /system/library/extensions/OnUSBMassStorage.kext was installed improperly. How do I fix this?
First off, you are running an intel not a PPC.
Second have you attached a USB external drive to your computer? Remove all peripherals and see if the message goes away. Then reattach each peripheral one by one to weed out the problematic one.
