Error Message on iDVD burn

I'm using iDVD 4 & have OSX. I've made the movie in iMovie & added the theme, etc. in iDVD. When I go to burn, I get the message - "Problems were found validating your project. A DVD must have at least one video track or slide show." At times in the status bar, I can see that there is background encoding, but as I add titles to the theme, it sometimes disappears, along with the DVD capacity.

Hello James - It sounds like somehow your movie is being deleted from iDVD. Be sure to drop the movie in the menu button area (if you're dragging and dropping) and not in one of the "drop zones" since those are for background items. Wait for the Status bar to indicate Done before you start to burn (and you might want to keep iDVD focused and just leave the computer alone while the status bar indicates that iDVD is encoding).

iDVD error message that iDVD unexpectedly quit. Every time I share from iMovie to iDVD and begin the burn process it comes back with an error message that iDVD has unexpectedly quit. It did not seem to do this before I loaded iLife. How do I resolve this? One thing I do know is that I am limited in hard drive space and I am clearing some of this up until I can purchase a larger hard drive. I have an external hard drive but I am using the internal hard drive to build the movie. [email protected]

    Hi Ron,
Been to S.N.O.B.? I love that restaurant!!!
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.
But I think your real problem is probably free space on your start-up drive, based on your comments. You should have 20GB+ free.

  • HT3204 When attempting to burn an audio cd, I get an error message that says-burning failed due to unknown error (4280)?  It has been working fine, until today...what does this mean??

When attempting to burn an audio cd from my playlist, I get an error message that says, burn failed due to unknown error (4280).  It has been working fine for months...any solutions?

I have the exact same problem.
Been searching through this site to try and find an answer but still not come up with anything.
The wierd thing is that a couple of days ago it was working fine, and suddenly overnight it's stopped working.
The only solution i've found is that you need to have administrator rights as it says in the posts on the site below:
    http://www.emergingearth.com/itunes-7-cant-burn-cds/
Noticed by the diagnostic in your post that you dont have admin rights like me so that mite be the problem. Not sure if this is the right solution though.

It won't mess up anything.  The preference file contains the preferences you set in iDVD such as this:
Follow this to delete the iDVD preference file:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your

  • Error message trying to burn keynote presentation in idvd

I know this has been posted before - but I can't seem to find an answer to fix my problem. I am trying to export a 30 slide presentation from Keynote 3 to iDVD 6 - the presentation is using slides which should be the optimum slide size for iDVD (according to help files) it has an sudio file with it, but when I go to burn it using iDVD i get the following error message:
    Error During Track Initialization
There was an error during track initialization and iDVD
cannot continue burning this DVD 'the disc has not been
touched yet!). Please select Delete Encoded Assets'
from the Advanced-menu and try burning this project again.
I tried exporting the presentation to QT, which then worked and allowed me to burn the dvd, but the picture quality was completely rubbish.
Am at a total loss what to do next as have spent last three days trying various things with no success... idvd now keeps crashing on me as well. I have an urgent deadline I need to meet by next week

Does your slideshow in Keynote have audio associated with it?
Exporting from Keynote to iDVD6 will essentially strip the audio from said presentation. As as you may have noticed, the results aren't all that great in terms of visual quality either .... and it will get even worse once compressed into mpeg2 /iDVD which is less than a third of a megapixel in resolution for still images). It's just the nature of the beast until we seen Blue Ray firmly established. This begs the question .... then why use this particular option for a slideshow presentation ??? Not the approach I'd use at all.
Suggestion: Find a better way to present your 30 slides /presentation that will do some measure of justice to the original image. Here are two apps I'd recommend looking into:
    http://lqgraphics.com/phototomovie.php
    http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/
Btw ... most Errors During Track Initialization tend to point at user's choice of media and or read/write speed when burning. I recommend using only Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R for troubleshooting purposes on this forum. Take the time to lower the burn speed to 4x or lower using apple's disc utilities or Roxio Toast. (Slower is better).
Hope this helps but if not come on back.

  • Error message in iDVD with Slide show from iPhoto 09

I have about 130 photos in a slide show with music in iPhoto 09. The slide show settings are for the whole slide show are Ken Burns effect, each slide about 8.1 seconds, random transitions, and music fit to the slide show..I Went to "Share" Send to DVD.
In DVD, I type in a title and a photo in the drop zone, then I chose as a Burn as a Disc Image. It does some encoding and then a I get an error message when it finishes that says " There was an error during the rendering of the menus/slideshows. The burning process has been canceled".. This basically tells me Nothing!!
What is wrong? How can I fix this? Using OS 10.5.7 intel dual core. iMac desktop.
Previously, I had successfully created a DVD of this same slide show, made one DVD, but after seeing in on my DVD player, I tried to fix some things, like fitting the music to the slide show, but that is about all. Frustrated!!
    Any help will be appreciated....Thanks.

This sounds more like an iDVD issue than an iPhoto one. I would post on the iDVD forum here:

  • Error message opening iDVD project

Need some help figuring this out. I have completed my first DVD project. It is a simple slideshow of a recent trip. I made an image yesterday and it played OK and its 625 MG.
I decided to burn it to my LaCie external burner today, but I can't even open the project. I get the following message: Connection Failed: This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally.
I've tried opening the project by clicking on it or through iDVD and get the same results. I've restarted my Mac. I've always been able to open the project previously as I worked on it.
Your advice to solve this problem would be invaluable. Thanks!

Where are your images stored? Where is the iDVD project stored? How does a 'file server' come into play? What is on the network?
I think you've hit on the problem if I'm understanding. The images and the project are stored on my computer. However, when I first tried burning this project about a month ago, I had an error message (can't recall what it was). I decided after that incident that my processor was too slow (700 MHz Power PC G4).
I decided I would use our iMacG5 which has a faster burner so I used our network to transfer the project to the iMac from my eMac. The image I had created played well but I started having problems when I wanted to open the project and burn the DVD. For one thing, the iMac only has iDVD 4. I could see that this wasn't going to work so I went back to the eMac.
Is there any way to salvage all my work. I really don't want to start over.
When you create an iDVD 6 project, the assets you used remain in their original location - if ANYTHING changes , you have a problem.
The photos I used are still in iPhoto and the original project is still on my hard drive. Do you need any other information?

  • Error message in iDVD - too much motion in the menu?

i keep getting this error message:
"The following warnings and errors were found during the validation of the current project:
    - There seems to be too much motion menu content in your project. Correct this problem before you continue burning this project."
even if i take off all the motion in the menus (im guessing that's dragging a video into a loadzone) i still cant burn the dvd
    any ideas?
how can i still incorporate the videos in the menus tho? (cos i really like that, just looping in the menu)
    thank you very much
    cheers
    miki

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The total playing time of any videos or audio in menus must be less than 15 minutes. Check the Info pane for the project and see what the menus are listed at. I believe if you add a 4 minute audio track for a menu and only have 30 seconds being used the entire 4 minutes is used. So if you want to use just a part of a song, copy it to the desktop from iTunes and use Garageband or a 3rd party editor like Amadeus Pro to cut out just that portion you want to use.
If you've removed some of the media from the menus and it still lists as too much, use the Advanced menu to delete encoded assets and try saving as a disk image. If it saves OK you can play the disk image with DVD Player to preview the encoding before burning to disk with Disk Utility (at the slowest speed possible).

  • ENCORE CS6 gives error message during the burning of Blu-ray Disc

I did it again - upgraded my Production Premium CS5 to CS6.
I will not forget CS4 that never came to work. It was not a workable version, but at best an Alfa or maybe Beta version.
I was therefore naturally afraid to upgrade my reasonably well functioning CS5 version, but did it anyway.
My fears kept unfortunately connectors. Audition CS6 scratchy and crunches a lot when I change Audio Device from MME to ASIO. It should be noted, that none of my other programs have this problem neither my Soundbooth nor Audition 5.5 which I fortunately still have installed. So it is only Audition CS6 that crunches with ASIO4ALL.
Encore CS6 is also a problem child. When I try to burn a Blu-ray Disc I get, in the final phase, following error message: Blu-ray Error: "device error", Code: "CreateStcSequence: Fail to write M2S file"
Fortunately, I can open the project file in my Encore CS5, which do not have the same problem. Encore CS6 cannot be used as a standalone application - I still need to have a previous version installed to complete my projects. It is not fair.
Unfortunately I can see that many others have the same problem. Even worse, however, that Adobe still has not come with an update or fair solution of the problem - after so long.
It annoys me infinitely, I every time have to spend so much time on the Internet in an attempt to find solutions to remedy Adobe problems. These are programs I have paid dearly for - exactly twice as much as others living in the U.S. pay - just because I live in Europe.
If there is a user who has some useful suggestions I would appreciate it very much.
I must complain about my bad English.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jim,
ISO files also works for me, but that's not what I paid for.
So far I use just the previous version CS5, but hope at some point to get CS6 to work.

Sounds like you exported a reference file and made a change in the sequence or the some element of the reference movie is lost. The file is unplayable as you've discovered.

Can anyone tell me how to change the Data rate as in the attach file

    >I did Attach the screen capture of the error message
Unfortunately this forum doesn't offer any options for attaching images (or anything else). You would have to upload the image to somewhere else and then either include a link in your post, or add it via an HTML "img" tag.
As for the error: Are you sure that your project consists of nothing else than an Encore slide show? It is odd that Encore would create one that peaks above the allowed bit rate maximum.
If there is really only this slide show, did you perhaps add more audio tracks after creating the slide show?
