Error message on Nook

Receiving an error message when I try to copy library book from my adobe reader to my Nook.  It says I do not have permission to copy.  I have not had any previous problems copying library books to my Nook.

My local library gave me the solution:  Apparently sometimes the Adobe authorization on the Nook disappears, so you have to reauthorize it. The steps depend on your version of Adobe Digital Editions (I think mine is probably an older version as I've used this device for several years).  Try contacting your local library and/or possibly Barnes & Noble support for specifics.  I had to do the reauthorization through my computer, which basically involved deleting two files from my Nook, disconnecting the Nook, opening Adobe Digital Editions, reconnecting the Nook, which then prompted me to authorize the device. It worked! Then I transferred the library books back into my Nook from my Adobe Digital Editions.  Good luck!

  • Library download error message on nook touch

Recently I updated my nook touch.  Before the update I was able to download books from the local library.  Now i get an error message which states 'not activated'.

It has probably lost its ADobe ID activation over the update.
Connect it to computer via USB and run ADE.
Just in case it has half a memory of the old activation, hit ctrl-shift-E to ADE to remove any vestiages.
    Restart ADE
Under the library menu, choose 'Activate Device'
That should (fingers crossed) bring it back to a properly activated state.

After working fine for years, now I cannot open my downloaded library books in my Nook - I get the following message:  Error - User Not Activated.  The books are in my Adobe Digital Editions on my computer, as usual, but will not open in my Nook.  Can anyone help?

I had recently updated from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 and thus had to re download Adobe Digital Editions. I downloaded Version 4.0 but the problem seemed to be with the authorization between the e-reader and the computer. While in ADE click the help button and click erase authorization then re do your user id and password. It worked for me.

  • My answer to Error Message 2038 when trying to download library books to ADE/NOOK

I found my solution! I previously posted a "Help" on the forum because I could not get my public library books to download to ADE. I kept getting an error message #2038 stating to check my network connectivity. Well, not being a techie, I didn't even know what that meant....and the search began. After MANY excrutiating hours, I found the simple answer for my particular trouble.
First, please indulge me why I whine.... I checked my firewall by funbling my way through my computer and trying to download to ADE without it being turned on, not my problem. My virus protection, not the problem. I copy and pasted folders as suggested in some forums and totally messed them all up. I had to delete them from my PC and have Nook help me reset my nook to factory settings and reauthorize my Nook.  What a MESS! I uninstalled and reinstalled ADE checking out my ID, etc. I spoke with the public library and tried their solutions....nada. I TRIED to speak with ADE but they informed me Digital Editions is a free software so I couldn't even PAY a techie to speak to me and had to use these forums. Nook advised me that the problem was not Nook related and they were NOOK TECHIES not computer techies so maybe I should check with ADE. ON AND ON around the merry go round.
Finally, here was my problem and answer. I did not know what a "proxy" was. I kept being told to check my "proxie server". I don't know if this will work for anyone else but here was my simple answer. I have a satellite internet service provider. I called them, and although they told me this was not within their scope of service, they helped me. I went onto Internet Exployer, I clicked on Tools. I clicked on Internet Options, I clicked on the connections tab, I click on the LAN settings and there was a number in my "proxy server" box. I recognized this number as being the same number listed for my satellite provider (Hughes Net). I called them and told them my problem and asked if that number SHOULD be in my proxy box. They had me delte the number and click on "automatically detect settings" instead. They then had me make sure my internet could still surf the internet correctly by having me go into "graphi-heavy" sites like Facebook.com and CNN.com. My internet worked great as ever. I then went to the public library web site and checked out a book. ADE came up and instantly downloaded the book. I was able to drag and drop the book to my Nook icon and it appeared in my Nook. I can now check out free public library books, which is the whole reason WHY I purchased the Nook and not the Kindle!!!!
I was told this proxy setting was not "wrong" just speaking a language that ADE could not translate....so to speak.
Yeah!!!!!! I hope if anyone else has this problem, you will find this posting to be your easy answer......because it has not been easy to find this information out.  There is noone out there to help you but these forums!!!! The one fall-back to the NOOK is that they are NOT prepared to help you resolve any compatibility problems. THEY ONLY KNOW HOW TO OPERATE THE NOOK, they aren't computer Techies. NOOK is great, but if they want to be #1 they are going to have to beef up their Support Network with qualified computer/Nook techies.

    Hooray!!!

Using digital editions 2.0, I cannot transfer books downloaded to digital editions from the library to my nook.  I get an error message: failed to write destination file. At first, this happened once in a while but now every time. Help!!!

Modern kobo books should just use regular Adobe DRM and be readable on compatible ereaders that are authorized to the correct Adobe ID.
I understand older kobo book had different DRM: but I wouldn't expect those to
When Adobe DRM book information say 'no copying', that generally means no copying outside those Adobe DRM limitations.
You should be able to copy within the restrictions.  You can double-check that with the sellers (Kobo).
    Just double-checking
the pocket book is Adobe DRM compatible?
that you have authorized your pocket book with your current Adobe ID?
menu/Help/Authorize Device when plugged into ADE:  Library/Authorize Device if using the older more reliable ADE 1.7.2
If the pocket book is already authorized but to a different ID, you will need to deauthorize it first, ctrl-shift-E to ADE with device plugged in (or cmd-shift-E on Mac).
Be aware that will lose the ability to read DRM books authorized with the previous ID.

  • Initially stating No authorization required using Adobe.  When I try to change it so I can transfer downloaded books by my Nook e-reader it I get an error message stating the Adobe user name and password is associated with another computer.  What gives?

When I set up Adobe reader on my computer to be able to download books from a library and then transfer to my Nook e-reader, I initially stating No authorization required using Adobe.  When I try to change it so I can transfer downloaded books by my Nook e-reader it I get an error message stating the Adobe user name and password is associated with another computer.  What gives?

This is pretty surprising and wierd that even Reader 10.1.1 is crashing on your system. It works pefectly for me.
Would it be possible for you to get the crash dump, and upload it, so that I can have a look at the same.
Download PROCDUMP from <http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/dd996900.aspx> and extract it to a folder, say, c:\temp\procdump.exe
Open cmd prompt and type "cd c:\temp".
Launch the browser and open the PDF.
Open task manager, sort processed by name. Two AcroRd32.exe instances  should have been launched. Note the PID (a small integer like 5588) corresponding to the AcroRd32.exe with the higher memory usage; this is the process that must be crashing. Note this PID.
On the cmd window, type "procdump -e -ma 5588 c:\temp\01.dmp" (replace 5588 with the actual PID of the process noted in Step 4). Procdump will now wait for the aoolication to crash. If it throws a EULA, accept it.
Perform your steps to cause the crash.
Procdump will have created a dump file at "c:\temp\01.dmp". Zip it up (since it will be 100s of MBs otherwise) and share with me.
Thanks in advance for all your help

  • Help with the error message that ADE is not allowed to copy a book onto my Nook. I have tried authorizing and unauthorizing many times--at wits end with this issue.

Help with the error message that ADE is not allowed to copy a book onto my Nook. I have tried authorizing and unauthorizing many times--at wits end with this issue.

I too am having the same problem. I have a new hard drive that was imaged from the old one and I'm trying to side load a book to my Nook Simple Touch.. I first installed ADE 4 then borrowed and downloaded a book from Overdrive. I tried a few times to delete and reauthorize both the computer and the Nook and each time I get an authorization error when I try to side load the book. I then found on the Nook forum that the Simple Touch and ADE 4 don't get along. So I uninstalled ADE 4 and installed ADE 3.
I then followed this recommended procedure found on the forum: I deleted the Digital Editions folder from my Nook, launched ADE 3 and authorized the computer, then connected the Nook. For a few seconds, hovering the mouse over the setting icon for the Nook displayed everything on the context menu grayed out. But then it showed the context menu and I was able to display the Nook's authorization, which was the same as the computer's. Still get the same error side loading the book. Deleting and reauthorizing doesn't help.  And the Digital Editions folder is still missing from the Nook.

  • I have spent dozens of hours over the last years trying to find out why I get the error message "...not authorized to copy" when I try and drag a download from ADE to my nook.  Why is this simple procedure not foolproof.  There are hundreds of people sear

LEARN THE MEANING OF FOOLPROOF YOU IMBICILES

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value).  You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:
Depending on your location, you may be able to re-download any iTunes Store purchases that are still available on the Store
Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads
Content imported from your CDs will have to imported again
The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these).  Without details of the issues you're seeing it is difficult to suggest a remedy other than going through the media album-by-album, track-by-track, and correcting the inconsistencies.
In the absence of a backup or access to the original library data there is no option other than painstakingly recreating your library as described above.  As you do so, you'll now realize how important creating and maintaining backups are - in my case I have at all times three separate duplicates of my library, in two different locations, where none is ever more than a week old compared to the content of my master library.

error message on reading device saying     error dialog  user not activated.  unable to open book to read

I had Adobe upgraded to from 1.2. to 4.1 on my Glow Light Nock at Barnes and Noble yesterday. I use a  MacBook Pro 2011 upgraded to 10.10.1. I have never had a problem download a book from the library to my nook in the past. By the time I get this issue resolved, my 2 week book will be overdue and my book club discussion 1/21. I have been to the genius bar at Apple store--not their problem. Two trips to B&N and
the tech guy said he could fix the problem on a PC but not a Mac. It is not a Mac or Nook world.

  • Error message in adobe digital editions

    Hi.
I am getting this message in Adobe Digital Editions when I open an epub I made
"the document appears to have minor errors that might cause it to be displayed incorrectly"
The epub is displaying fine. I checked in Adobe, Sony, FBReader, and Calibre.
The html and css is valid. No warnings. Perfectly valid. All of it.
Epubcheck gives it no warnings or errors.
Some of the chapter titles in the table of contents are pretty long. Could that be a problem?
I have no idea how else to check it to find out what could be causing this error. Does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks.

I had this same problem.  epubcheck that I have on my desktop said no errors, but ADE would give the "minor errors" message.  I put some serious dents in my forehead from pounding it on the desk.
I uploaded my ePUB to http://www.threepress.org/document/epub-validate/ and let it validate against schemas that I don't have and it gave me the clue that I needed.  Because I had exported my book from MS-Word using their awful HTML export and then (through a series of ordeals) converted it to XHTML and cleaned up all the uglies.  But, there was one piece I forgot to fix.  The encoding value in the top-level xml element. It was set to Windows CP1252.  It has to be UTF-8 or UTF-16.  When I changed the encoding, I had to fix some of the quote marks that I had missed in earlier passes.
After making the encoding change and the final cleanup, I now have my book on my nook.
I hope this helps someone else in the future.

  • Help needed with e_adept_request_expired error message

I am trying to open my first ACSM ebook, and keep on getting this error message. I am using a standard PC laptop running Microsoft Office and the likes, not Nook or an e-reader. I had no problems setting up Adobe Digital Edition and registering my laptop with Adobe. That seems to work fine.
However, I cannot open the one ACSM book I bought as I keep getting this request expired message.  I am utterly baffled by the 'check your Time zone' solution. I am based in the UK, bought the ACSM on a UK website to read on my laptop. Am I meant to set my time zone to that of Adobe in the US? Should it be the same as that of the website I bought the book from?? How do I know what. or rather whose, time zone I should be on? I am after all in the correct time zone for where I live!
My internet time settings are set to  synchronise with 'time.windows.com'. I really really do not know what to do. I have re-synchronised the time, deleted then redownloaded the file, nothing will work. It has been three days now, and I still can't open the book.

The ebook store you bought it from may use invalid/ outdated certificates. Check their knowledge base or contact their support.

  • Ebook error message: "Fail to write destination file error"

I am attempting to transfer ebooks (checked out via my library's ebook consortium) from Adobe Digital Editions to my Nook. I have done this in the past with no issues, but recently I have been getting the following error message: "Fail to write destination file error".
I know the issue is NOT lack of space on my Nook (I cleared it of all info and still received the error message).

I had this problem as well, and after doing some research via google (because I found NOTHING helpful in adobe forums), I found the problem....my Nook was full.  I had no idea this was even possible!  But, I borrow a lot of library books, and didn't realize that after they expire, they are still taking up space on my Nook.  Here's how to check: plug your Nook into your computer, go to file manager (right-click the start button in Windows), find the Nook drive and right click, choose properties.  This should show you a pie chart of used/free space on your Nook.  If this is the case, you need to remove some files from your Nook.  For me, I had to find the Digital Editions file and delete all the thumbnails and actual files for the library books.  If it's booked you've purchased, perhaps you need to archive some books.  Hope this helps!
