Error message pops up saying "Network Connection could not find a PPPoe Server.

I am trying to update my wife's iBook, 2,1 for my mom to use.  It is running OS 10.6.8.  Every time I wake up the computer an error message pops up saying "Network Connection could not find a PPPoe Server." It does it periodically when the computer is on.  It will drive my mom nuts and worry her.  Can anyone help me stop this from happening?
Thanks,
KC

  • Network Connection - could not find a PPPoE server

This question is different from other similar ones I've read.
I have a Windows box that I use every day, connected to DSL by ethernet to a D-Link modem/router. I frequently connect/disconnect my MacBook Pro 10.6.8 and, until recently, all was well. It would be online as soon as it booted up. Now, while my Windows machine still gets online fine, MacBook says my ethernet is connected, but I can't get online. My DHCP is fine, but when I click the connect button for PPPoE, I get the message "Network Connection - could not find a PPPoE server". I didn't look but I'm assuming it was using both DHCP and PPPoE when it was working properly.
Took it to the shop and as soon as they plugged it in, it was online, with both the DHCP and PPPoE working.
My ISP says it must be a driver issue for PPPoE, something to do with the configuration. So 2 shops say they can only fix it by coming to my home, instead of me taking it in to them. Are they correct, or how can I fix it myself, bearing in mind that I'm fairly new with this?

    Hi Grant,
Got a different person at my ISP today, she says I have a dynamic IP address, so both my computers only need DHCP. We walked through my Windows machine network screen and it is definitely set up with just DHCP (just like the Mac). But she couldn't tell me why Windows was working and Mac wasn't. Which makes me wonder why the Apple shop told me to click on connect PPPoE!
She said when I took my Mac to the shop and both DHCP and PPPoE were showing as active, only the DHCP was needed and actually doing anything. And she couldn't tell me why I couldn't just take my Mac plus the router into the shop and get it set up there.
My UN and PW were 'admin', and I changed them long ago. Your instructions were identical to the router manual, but she couldn't tell me how to change them back to my chosen names if I followed those instructions. She also said a new router might fix the problem.
Everybody seems to have different ideas (in addition to the 2 sales pitches), and I'll admit that I'm concerned that if I re-set the router it might mess up Windows so it doesn't work either. So I'm frozen!

  • Internet Connect Could not find a PPPoE server

We just bought the new MacBook Pro and set it all up ok and yesterday bought a D-Link Wireless ADSL router.
We can get onto the D-Link network fine and full signal is shown but when we try to connect the error "Internet Connect: Could not find a PPPoE server" comes up.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
I looked at a couple of other threads with similar tpics but none of them seemed to help me :S
Do I just need to contact BT about it as they are our server or is it something setup wrongly?
I hope you can help me
    Lizi

    ok, thanks
I've done that but it still doesn't work
whats VPN? and do I have to fill in that first(ie. Server address, not that i know what it would be, Account name and Password)? and PTTP or L2TP?
    this s totally conusing me...

  • Error Msg: "internet connect" "could not find a pppoe server"

    Hi,
I'm a mac newbie and am having problems with my new MacBook that I just bought and setup yesterday. When the setup asst is asking questions when I first started the computer, I mistakenly chose connect via pppoe. Then, when the setup asst ended, I realized my mistake (b/c I am using a dsl connection that I plug in through my ethernet port), went into system preferences--network-- and chose ethernet, using DHCP. Now I am able to connect to the internet and get my mail, but I keep getting a pop-up window called "Internet Connect" that says "Could not find a PPPOE server". Can someone tell me what I need to change? Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
In Network Preferences, where you setup the DHCP, click configure again and select Create PPPoE service, and remove/undo whatever you entered in those dialog boxes. Then re-select DHCP.
Leave the default name, PPPoE but just remove everything else.
If there are any check boxes to connect via PPPoE, be sure they are unchecked.
If that does not help, then in your user library/preferences directory, drag the following file to the desktop and reboot
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist
That should take care of it.

  • I am constantly told by Itunes that 107 items are not synching from my contacts. This is a message from the Conflict Resolver that appears whenever I synch. I try to resolve the synch and a text message pops up telling me it could not find the synch serve

I am constantly told by Itunes that 107 items are not synching from my Ipod Touch to/from Outlook Contacts. I try to resolve the issue and eventually a message pops up saying it could not be completed because it could not find the sync server. This started after one of the updates a couple of months ago. If anyone has found a similar problem and resolved it I would appreciate any assistance.

Help is right here, front and center caibadass. May I ask what's the reason for the mobile number change? Are you logged into My Verizon as the account owner to make such a change? If you can share the details then we can assist. Keep in mind that if the number is changed online then there is not a cost.
    Thank you...

  • My songs from iTunes won't download, I went to the downloads tap and all seven of my new songs say "download error, tap to retry" and when I tap on one a message pops up saying " this song could not be downloaded at this time". What do I do?

My songs from iTunes won't download. I recently just purchased 7 songs and they took my money but now the songs won't download to my phone. I have gone to the download screen on the iTunes app and under each song it says "download error. Tap to retry". When I tap to retry a song a message pops up saying "this song could not be downloaded at this time." And it gives me two options. Either done or retry. I have tried to download them many times. I signed out and signed back in on iTunes, restarted my phone, and even checked for any updates. Nothing seems to be working. They charged the money from my card but now my songs won't download. What do I do?

    Hello Bdev15,
I would be concerned too if the songs I purchased from iTunes were not downloading to my iPhone. You have taken some great troubleshooting steps already, and thank you for providing the details of the steps you too.  I have a few additional suggestions to get it downloaded to your iPhone.
First, I recommend checking to see if the download was interrupted:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1725
If the songs still do not download, next I recommend downloading the songs when connected to another network.  For example, if you are using the cellular network, you could switch to Wi-Fi, or you could try an alternate Wi-Fi network.  Follow the steps in the section titled "iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch > Music" in the article below to download the songs:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you are still not able to download the songs, you can report an issue with these purchases using the steps in this article:

  • I am constantly receiving an error message that says "Could not find a PPPoE Server." My wireless internet connection seems to working fine, I'm not having any issues. How do I get rid of this error message?

A few weeks ago my computer had lost the connection to the wireless internet. I set it up again and was able to connect to the internet, however since then I've been receiving an error message "Could not find a PPPoE Server." I went back into Preferences and unchecked the PPPoE server option but the error message still pops up.
Any idea how to fix it?

In the Network pane of System Prefences, do you have duplicate services on the left column? When you "set it up again", you might have duplicated a service and both (the good working one and the previous that lost connection) might be trying to connect at the same time.

  • An error message pops up saying cannot connect to itunes store then a white screen behind it says Your request produced an error [newNullReponse].

When i try and access my app store and click on categories and top 25 an error message pops up saying cannot connect to itunes store then a white screen behind it says Your request produced an error [newNullReponse]. I have Tried resetting my iPhone  logging out and logging back into my apple account ive tried changing the dates but it doesnt work. I dont have a phone to call apple support so how do i fix this please help! Thank a lot !!

    Try this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
Also, if that doesn't work, try this:
First you need to create another App Store iTunes account with a different country. (If you're American, do Canadian and vice versa)
When you sign out then sign in under the new account, it will say that your account only works in USA and to change the store. Once it does that your top 25 will be changed back to top apps and you'll get no more errors. Then you can change back to your normal account.
You can create another account free. Do it through iTunes on your computer or Mac. Change the country at the bottom of the App Store. Try and download a Free app. That way you don't need a credit card.

  • HT201210 when updating ipad get message saying "network connection could not be established"

When Trying to update IOS on my ipad I get message saying "network connection could not be Established"  Getting real tired of this problem.  first couldn't download itunes until I downloaded from non apple website now THIS.  Really?  Please help.  About to go buy a droid tablet and throw this apple product in the garbage.

When I talked to My ISP they had me go to the settings on the new modem/router they installed and yes this is THEIR fault. NOT APPLE's  The DNS was not set correctly.  they gave me the numbers to put into the router and guess what all is working correctly.  Thank you very much for directing me to the solution to this problem.  I have been trying for almost a month to update iTunes (ended up going to a 3rd party web site to update) then I couldn't update the iPad.  So very frustrating.  Anyway my problem was NOT Apple's and I do apologize to them!

    Hi Kashmore,
Seems like the downloaded file was corrupt that could be because of either network restriction or the anti virus might have blocked it. My suggestion would be to try and download the product either by turning off the Antivirus or try a different network.

  • Error message pops up "The following files could not be imported because they could not be read."

Lightroom has suddenly stopped recognizing files on my camera's sd cards.  An error message pops up "The following files could not be imported because they could not be read."  My iphoto app can download them so why can't Lightroom?

The answer is here - about a million times over - and it's not a Lightroom problem. It's actually a Mac OS issue. You need to fix the write permissions on the destination folder for the import.

Any ideas?  I probably have something wrong in my computer settings.

You should restore your modem to router condition and set the Airport Express to 'Bridge Mode'. A full explanation and the method of doing this is here:

  • "Could not find a PPPoE server"  help

"Could not find a PPPoE server" this is the message I get when I try to connect to the internet via my wireless netgear modem. I have other Pcs which use this modem and all work fine (non of them are Macs) I have previously been able to connect using my Mac but I haven't been on for while. I tried recently and this is the message I get.
It shows that the connection to my network is very good but it cannot find a PPPoE server.
I have gone to System Preferences>Network>PPPoE where it shows my 'service provider' 'account name' and 'password'. The password is only showing 8 digits but my actual password for my wireless network has 10 digits, each time I try to change the password and click 'apply' it overrides it and puts the password back to 8 digits.
How can I solve this problem and get my mac to connect to my wireless network?

Thank you for your reply, I followed your instructions and found the password for my network in keychain access>show password as you suggested, it shows my password is the very same password that I have been trying to use.
I deleted the old airport account and used the assistant to set up a new account, it asks me to select the network I wish to join and then asks me to put in my selected network password. I put in my password exactly as written in the keychain access and it says "sorry the password you entered is invalid"
I have deleted the password in keychain access and retyped it and pressed save, tried the new account process again and it still says 'invalid password'
    Any idea what's going on?

    Hi Roger,
Your profile doesn't say where you are but it's probable that you shouldn't be trying to connect over PPPoE.
Have a look at my advice in This Thread and see if that does the trick.
    Best of luck,
