Error message 'System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost' not able to print anymore

Possibly the source of the error message is: 'AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext' has not been installed properly and cannot be used. on my Mac Book Pro'13 early '11 is http://download1290.mediafire.com/5u5azohfzhgg/zo22n2u2eml78vc/AppleUSBEthernetH ost, http://www.mediafire.com/download/zo22n2u2eml78vc/AppleUSBEthernetHost - I cancelled the download, but I found it in my downloads.
Resulting that I cannot print any more wired and wireless. Please would you help to fix this problem at short term? Thank you.

Hi Domique,
Thank you very much for your answer. Yesterday I moved the file to the Trash and restarted the PC. Afterwards it didn't succeed to print.
Today (at lunchtime) I didn't find the file AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext at all on my PC. I did request a software update, but no updates were available.
I just (at dinertime) solved the wireless printing problem. By adding a new printer (my own printer) and gave it another name (extension of date of today). I did do this also yesterday, but it didn't solve both printing problems at all.
Now I am able to print wireless. I also looked again if the file AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext was on the system. Yes! It was at the right place System/library/extensions/. It's an old file of 16.05.2011.
The wired printing possibility is still UNSOLVED. Please would you help me to solve this problem too? Thank you very much in advance!

Was updating at the App Store - Safari, iTunes, iWorks 09 and prior to that had updated something at Adobe's website.  Then this error message popped up:

Is this an easy fix.  Thanks, Charlotte

What I ended up doing is a reinstall the OS.
There was an important component I forgot to mention...my hard drive had crashed and I had it replaced.  When it was replaced - the old drive was copied to the new.  Since the prior error messages I had gotten from MemTest and CheckMate kept saying Bad Blocks in the drive - it was suggested that the corrupt or missing data on these "bad blocks" had not copied or copied incorrectly.
So only time will tell if this fixed this error.  (Don't have external hard drive so never had Time Machine set up to begin with.)  Original computer was refurbished and believe some things weren't done right from the get go.  Oh well...  Hope I didn't lead anyone astray.

I would recommend you download and install the OS X 10.9.5 Combo Update.
That file is part of the operating system and it is located where the error shows, i.e. HD > System > Library > Extensions. It would seem that when you updated, this file and maybe others have not updated correctly. So running the Combo Update may help resolve this.

  • Error message: /System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext

All of a sudden I keep getting this error message:
The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/CDSDAudioCaptureSupport.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.

    Try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Received following message during installation of an iTunes update today (9/16/14):  System extension cannot be used. The system extension “//System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.  What is to be done about it?

Thanks for the reply.  I'm not experienced in the inner workings of the iMac system and its programs, so please follow my train of thought as I try to find and understand your reply.
You wrote that I should check out "Please see - AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext error on installing iTunes update" and I did so.
There I found your reply of 9/1014 7:06 PM to j'ski stating: "There is a larger thread here which you may want to follow - system extension cannot be used AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext ."
And an earlier Post by Greg Earle of 9/10/14 5:57 PM stating: " You would have been better off doing open /System/Library/Extensions and then finding the AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext kernel extension icon in the Finder window that came up and moving it to the Trash."
And a subsequent Post on 9/15/14 at 2:59 PM by Rob Maurer stating: "This method worked perfectly for me.  I am on a Mac Pro running Mountain Lion. Dragged the kext file to trash (I use EasyFind. Found the file, Revealed in Finder, dragged to Trash, entered admin password when requested). Downloaded iTunes 11.4 from the website. Installed from that download. Checked for that kext file in EasyFind again and found it had a creation date of 7/29/14 (the trashed one had a creation date from 2009). No more error messages.  ITunes opens fine.  Everything good. Will not update on my MacBook Pro until they fix this issue.
All of which leave me wondering - what is your answer/recommendation?  Do I drag the kext file to trash, download iTunes 11.4 from the website and install it from that download, check for that kext file again to see if it has a later date than the initial one?  And, if so, seed if iTunes opens okay or not?  And if so, do not update iTunes again until Apple fixes whatever is wrong?

Can somebody help me resolve this error message. Would this error affect my ability to run FaceTime ?

Seems pretty clear to me. Here's what you can try:
Open Terminal in your Utilities folder. Paste the following at the prompt:
         sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
Press RETURN. Enter admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed so type carefully. Press RETURN again.

Anyone have any idea what this is about?

    Sasha-
Maybe your looking in the wrong "Library". On my Mavericks; I open the HD to see a folder below the Library Folder called "Systems". Open the Systems Folder to see a "Library Folder". Open that library folder to see "Extensions folder". Open the extensions folder to find the "AppleUSBethernetHost.kext" and delete that extention. Following Lanny's post, do this:
    1st- Close iTunes.
2nd- Delete the system extension “AppleUSBethernetHost.kext” from here:
      //System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBethernetHost.kext
3rd- go to iTunes 11.4 download, here:  https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
click on the "Download Now" link.
4th- Find the downloaded iTunes11.4.dmg file, open it, now open the Install iTunes.pkg
After the re-install as above I got the successfully installed window and no “pop up”
    improperly installed AppleUSBMultitouch.kext warning window.

I can move it to trash, but how do I "properly" reinstall it?  What are the consequences if I don't instal it.  I do not us an ethernet connection on this computer.

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder, copy and paste the entire following line into it, and press the Run button:
do shell script "chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" with administrator privileges

  • When I installed updates, I got a message that said, "System extension ""/System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used.  Please try reinstalling it, or contact the products vendor for an update."

I clicked on ok. The box behind said updates were installed and I didn't have any problems.  Is this something that needs attention?  Thank you.

If it does cause problems or reappears, go to hard drive level/System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext and move the file to the trash. Reinstall iTunes 11.4, which should fix the problem.

  • Hi - I think on my mac /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext is corrupted.  Is there an easy fix?

    Hi,
I received an EPSON Printer Software Update (vers 2.18) on 30 Aug 2014 and I have not been able to print docs since.
I received the same Update on 20 Sept 2014 but the result is the same.
Whilst these updates were being downloaded an error message described the fault lying in the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
Is it possible that EPSON has corrupted my Apple drivers?
    George.

The error is caused by the iTunes update. Delete the kext file, download and install iTunes from the Apple web site, it will re-install a new kext file.

  • //System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext

I got a message saying that this:  //System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext was not installed properly and needed to be reinstalled.  How do I do that?

Thanks to you both, this fix worked for me too, after long ignoring the error message and vainly waiting for Apple to get around to an update.
Then last night I lost my Internet cable connection, which uses Ethernet between the modem and my iMac (Max OS X 10.6.8). At first, I blamed my ISP because the modem played up for a while, but after I rebooted it a few times, it returned to normal, but I still couldn't get online. I suspected, rightly or wrongly, that this faulty kernel extension might be the culprit. It took me 90 minutes' fiddling to obtain a slow Internet link, but that enabled me to download iTunes 11.4 from Apple.
I cautiously created a "Pre-trash" folder in which I dumped the non-functioning AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext and a back-up of iTunes library files before using the iTunes installer, with an eye on the open //System/Library/Extensions finder window. When the new kernel extension popped up in it towards the end of the installation, I noticed that it bore the date July 29, 2014! Its predecessor dated from mid-2009. This is not the first time in many years that an iTunes upgrade via Software Update has caused problems, usually corrected by downloading directly from the Apple site.
I fixed permissions for good measure and have found that my Internet connection is also nice and fast again, but I have no idea whether that's pure coincidence.
