Error message The folder "i tunes" is on a locked folder

My itunes was working great but now I cant get in it because it keeps telling me The folder "itunes" is on a locked folder or you dont not have write permissions for this folder. How can I fix this?

Try a shift-start of itunes. Press *AND HOLD* the shift key while starting itunes. Keep pressing until you see the message about choosing a library.
Then browse to the ITL file and itunes should open. The default location on Win 7 is here
C:\users\username\My Music\iTunes

  • Can't install itunes - error message  "the folder "itunes" cannot be found

Help. I just bought a new Iphone and can't get itunes to load. I had itunes on my computer for several years for my nano - haven't synced up in about a year. Went to open it and got the following error message
The folder "itunes" cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside Mu Music folder"
I have uninstalled everything - quicktime, apple mobile, every single file. I have rebooted, run searches to make sure there were no files at all left - did it through control panel, search etc., rebooted and downloaded it again (this make about 5 times now) and still get that same message that the folder cannot be found. Help! I just blew about $400 in the Apple store!
    Can anyone help me?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Error Message:The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character

I have an 80G iPod. I never had a problem with the itunes program until I switched to Vista. When I try to open iTunes I get the following error message:
*The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character*
I have itunes installed on both my HP and on an external hard drive that I use as my backup in case something goes wrong. Neither one opens and I get the same error message on both. I have tried to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall and get the same message so I can't uninstall.
I'm really frustrated, I need to get to my music for a huge presentation in a few days. Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Error message: The folder (you are trying to move) contains the catalog

II am trying to move a catalog to an external HD. I am getting an error message: The folder (names folder) contains your LR catalog and cannot be moved while LR is running.
How can i move the folder within LR without LR running or if I move the catalog out of the folder in MAC Finder, will it impact the synchronicity of the file pATH? Where should the folder containing the catalog be kept? I keep some separate catalogs by year because of the amount of photos that they contain and I "store the catalog file within the LR folder on the HD

Copy the catalog with Finder to the external. Copying the previews also is optional because if you don't LR will make new ones, but copying over the Previews.lrdata folder to the same location will save time. This is done with LR off. Now double click on the external catalog .lrcat file and LR will launch. After verifying that the new catalog is functioning properly, you can delete the old one from the internal.

    Hi,
Please also check Event Viewer if it identify this problem.
In addition, also check Device Manager, if similar driver already installed, try to uninstall them and reinstall new driver again for test.

  • Error message The folder Itunes cannot be found or created and is required"

Help please. I get the message "The folder Itunes cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the My Music folder". As a result, I cannot get Itunes to load. Have uninstalled and reloaded, repaired etc, all not working as still end up getting same message. Have also made an ITunes folder in My music, all to no avail. No viruses and virus library totally up to date. Getting to stage where I want to throw Ipod in bin and get an Iriver as its driving me insane!!

Here is a copy of the ilounge entries. I got one of my more IT literate guys to do this - but it looked easy when he did it!! important thing is it all came back - was a problem as I had moved an external hard drive so one of the locations detailed below showed the old address.
    Good luck!!
    Click on Start
    Clin on Run
    Type in "regedit" Enter
Do this step twice as there are two locations.
    CTRL F
    Type in "My Music"
Double Click and enter the path for where the folder is located.
The exact locations of the 2 entries that I changed are
hkeycurrentuser - software - microsoft - windows - current version - explorer - shell folders
    and
as above - windows - current version - explorer - USER shell folders
Try changing the two items from there - if these have already been changed then I'm not sure what to suggest.

  • TS3212 I keep getting this error message "The folder path 'Program Files' contains an invalid character.' when upgrading itunes to Itunes 10. I could not uninstall because of the same error message. What needs to done?

Can not download and install Itunes 10 - Get this message "The folder path 'Program Files' contain an invalid character. I tried to uninstall my old Itune through Control Panel but get the same message. What do I need to do?

Perhaps try the following user tip with that one:

  • How do I get iTunes back when I get the error message ; the application "I Tunes" unexpectedly quit while trying to restore it's windows. Do you want to restore it's windows?

how do I get ITunes back when I get the error message :
The application "ITunes" unexpectedly quit while trying to restore it's windows.  Do you want to restore it's windows?
I already tried reloading ITunes and it still doesn't startup.

You didn't mention but are you still running a version of iPhoto older than iPhoto 11?
If yes, then go to the App Store and purchase the iP 11 app and install it. Back up your photo library first.
Once iP 11 is installed and has imported all your photos do a restart of the Mac.
This should resolve most issues with iTunes 10.6 and you should be able to run iTunes and sync up your iOS devices.

I did this step by step, but when reinstalling i was presented with this message. 'The file 'i Tunes library .itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes'. If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.
Not sure if the following site/link will tell the method...
