Error message: "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved..."

Hello...
I keep getting an error message on iTunes: "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. The disk you are attempting to use is full."
Also, when I tried to download something from the internet, I was told there was not enough space.
I would think that this would mean I'm running out of space on my hard drive, but I checked and it says I still have plenty of space left. So, needless to say, I am confused.
What does this all of this mean, and how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance for any replies!
P.S. I have iTunes 8.0.2.

but I checked and it says I still have plenty of space left.
What is "plenty of space"?

  • Error message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54).

I opened iTunes and downloaded 2 songs from http://www.reverbnation.com. Shortly after I started getting this error message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-54). Anyone dealt with this before?

    == Error -54 ==
From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Some of the old codes still apply to OSX although there is no formal list of OSX error codes.)
First, try simply restarting your computer.

I know this doesn't help you Bud, but I've had this issue for at least the last couple of versions.  If I can ask, what is you enviornment like?  Local PC only, libray saved on another PC/Server?
In my case my library is on Windows 2003 server with the share mapped to drive M:  This has worked for many years through both XP and Windows 7 until and update a while ago.
    Thanks,

  • .itl error message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved...

Does anyone know what causes this error message: "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. A folder was specified instead of a file."
Long story short, I am tranferring my library to a new computer. On the old computer (XP, iTunes 10) it referenced the library from an external hard drive. On the new computer (Windows 7, iTunes 10) it references the C drive (my choosing). I put the iTunes Library folder onto C/Libraries/Music/iTunes/I manually put the .itl file in C/Libraries/Music/iTunes, and it worked (all of the playlists and file data were retrieved successfully). But then iTunes starts giving me that error message, and the .itl dissapears from C/Libraries/Music/iTunes. Then when I try to reopen iTunes I get this message: "The iTunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder.
Why is iTunes having trobule saving the file? Or do I need to somehow mondify the .itl so that it is functional in this new location (on the old computer it was in a differen folder. THanks for any insight.

    Hi,
I got to messing around in the iTunes folder and now NOTHing is visible in my iTunes Library. I had made a backup of the ~\My Music\iTunes folder before I messed with anything and so deleted the entire iTunes folder. Then I restored it from the backup. There is still NOTHing in my library.
I can import one item at a time but it's impractical to do it that way due to the volume of music. How can I import All of my music into the library? Is there a way to import an entire directory, consisting of sub-directories and their music - into the library?
    Thanks very much.
    Mike

  • Error Message: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. Unknown Error 13001

    My error message says:
The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An Unknown error occurred (13001).
Ever since I loaded the new 3.0 touch upgrade I have been bombarded by error after error. I have turned off genius which seemed to fix the problem at first but about an hour later the error warning popped up again. I have tried the shift start and selected my library with no improvement. It seems to pop up if I load a new podcast or download something and then fails to download.

Hmmm, that error message came up a lot with older itunes & Genius, like 8.0 version. But you have 8.2.
I don't know why it would crash on a download unless it is maybe a permissions problem. The download starts, but permissions make it so it cannot save it at the very end? Make sure you have ownership and full control over your itunes folder and all its subfolders.
How to Take Ownership and Grant Permissions in Windows Vista
And since you've turned off Genius, try deleting these 2 files
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
Restart itunes and see if there is any difference....good luck!

  • ITunes error message: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You have exceeded your storage quota on the disk you are attempting to use." What do I do?

I recently started receiving the following iTunes error message when I attempt to update the software on my iPad or iPhone: "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You have exceeded your storage quota on the disk you are attempting to use."
Any ideas what I need to do? The software won't update on my iPad, and I need to update through iTunes, as my iPad does not have enough free space to use the OTA service.

You need to free up space on your boot drive.
(I am going to ask the mods move this to the MacBook Pro forum.)

  • Error Message - The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50).

I can add my music files to the Library in iTunes and play the music, but when I close iTunes the Library doesn't save. When I reopen iTunes there is no music in the Library. This has happened after a switch to a new computer and upgraded software. I've tried removing iTunes and reinstalling it, but the same problem exists. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem? I do not want to link my iPhone to the computer until this is solved or I will lose my 2600 song library from my iPhone.
    Thanks

  • I keep getting the error message "The iTunes library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured (-50).

I have tried many fixes, yet I am still caught in this loop.

I'm not sure whether this helps but I had the same message recently after downloading latest iTunes version but after deleting most of my podcasts, the message has now disappeared.

  • I since yesterday get the message "the iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured (-54).

I since yesterday get the message "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured (-54)". I have an iMac running MacOsX 10.7.2. I have tried rearranging the preferences with respect to the Media file. This seems to work?.... However I wait and see for the next days.

Don't know what changed today but it downloaded and installed on the shuffle. So far so good.

  • I have a new PC and I am getting the message "The iTunes Library File cannot be saved.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."  I am the only one using this PC and I have Windows 7 Pro and have an administrator account.  Help

Can anyone help me with this problem.  ITunes message," The iTunes library file cannot be saved.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."   I have administrator account and transferred files from old PC.  I downloaded new iTunes program on new PC.  I synced my iPhone to new PC, no problem.  I deleted old account after indicating shared files to new admin account.  Can anyone help?

A belated reply, as the problems itunes has have discouraged me from using it much. If you uncheck the "read only" box, it doesn't stay that way! Next time you use it, the box comes up checked.
I'm still having that problem, even when I open iTunes as administrator.
I've yet to see the answer to this problem. I use itunes mostly to download audiobooks, and I'm ready to download more, and want to save them!

    Hi there Br0x,
You may want to try rebuilding the iTunes library as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the article below for more information.
