Error message trying to install new search engines

I am running Firefox 19.0.2 installed yesterday on a new desktop PC at the office. (Old PC failed to boot on Monday.) I have completed most of my customization without difficulty. However, when I try to install new search engines, it doesn't seem to matter which one, I get a pop-up error message:
"Sorry, you need a Mozilla-based browser (such as Firefox) to install a search plug-in."
I had no problems installing new search engines under Firefox 16 3rd quarter of last year when I started this job. Why am I unable to install search engines in FF 19?

Hello lafritz65, '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
thank you

As I said in your other thread, PSE 4 has not been compatible with OS X since around 10.4. It will not install in 10.8. PSE 6 is the oldest version you can use. PSE 4 is a PPC application and 10.8 requires intel software.

  • Error when trying to install new apps as well as syncing apps on my Ipod

I have updated to the new OS on my Ipod Touch but now it won't allow me to sync the apps. I get a greyed out screen and cannot select or deselect any apps.
I also cannot update any new apps onto the Ipod anymore.
I have tried selecting all the apps I want to install on the Ipod and drag them onto the connected device - it goes through the motions but at the end it comes up with an unknown error stating that the apps could not be installed.
Any ideas and advice would be appreciated.

Are you sure have iTunes 11.1 on your Computer?
The 7.0.2 you're reffering to is iOS 7.0.2, which is your iPods operating system.

  • Error messages trying to install

    Hello
I had Photoshop CS working fine and then yesterday when opening the software it just froze - at the beginning where it says loading plug-ins. I attempted to uninstall it, but it wouldn't, so I have manually removed the Photoshop folder in my x86 directory (I have Win 7 64-bit).
I am now trying to reinstall it but I get the following:
    Error Number 0x80040303
    Set up will now terminate
Previous to that, I got an error that said:
    ICC_Profiles_Settings
I get a Component transfer error
    error -2147418113
What does this mean, please, and how can I get around this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hello Romit
    Thank you for your reply.
    I can't tell because I can't install it. I think I got it in 2005.
Is it likely that this is a Windows problem? I have just done a full system anti-virus scan and everything seems clean.
    Thanks again.

  • What is this error message? Just installed new HD

    Heyo,
I just installed a new WD 320GB Internal HD on my girlfriends iBook G4, and after all was said and done (which is a lot!!!) when I turned it on for the first time it simply gives a white screen with a folder icon in the middle of the screen intermittently flashing a question mark, and the little two-faced apple guy inside of it. I checked and double checked all connections and was very careful during installation of the new HD.
Does anyone have a clue what is happening???
    Please help!

The folder with a question mark means the computer cannot find an OS to boot from.
You've got a few options for getting the OS onto this new hard drive:
1)If her old hard drive still works, you can put it in a Firewire enclosure and clone the data from the old hard drive to the new.
    2) Use the original install discs that came with the machine. If you can't find these, you can call up Apple & give them the serial number for the computer. Replacement discs aren't overly expensive.
    3) Last option is to use a retail copy of OS X to reinstall the OS on this computer. You'd have to make sure to purchase a copy that will work with your computer, and you would also be missing the iLife applications which are not included with a retail copy of OS X.
If you need anything cleared up, let me know!

  • Running Firefox 10.0.2, cannot add new search engines from Mycroft Project. Error message: "you will need a browser which supports opensearch to install this plugin" Please help with steps on how to fix this issue in Firefox, thank you

Can't add new search engines from Mycroft Project in FF 10.0.2. Error message states: "you will need a browser which supports opensearch to install this plugin"

    You're welcome.
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • I have tried to upgrade Painter 11 on my iMac running OS X 10.5.8. I keep getting the error message :- : The following install step failed : run pre install script for Corel Painter11 _ SP1 . Contact the software manufacturer for assistance   " Help pleas

I have tried to upgrade Painter 11 on my iMac running OS x 10.5.8 but get the error message : The following install step failed : run pre install script for Corel Painter11_SP1. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance "
I have contacted Corel and after several emails and one telephone call, they tell me , they cannot help but they think the problem could be with the OS.
Does anyone have any suggestions, please ?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

If you haved tried all the fixes and suggestions, there is not much to add. Just in case: did you really try using this tool http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html to first eliminate all traces of Reader, and then use the full offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/?
