I bought a macbook pro retina in 2015. cannot get hp officejet 6500a plus to print. it will read the printer and give all cartridge leves but it will not print. or scan or fax. I deleted and re-added several times. I geives error message USB malfuntion. I have a cable modem with phone network. I can get the printer assigned in there but it will not print from any any device. I did a reset on the printer  and restored factory defaults re-entered all info several times and get the same result. the fax - scanner - and copy  all work properly manually but will not  take commands from my competer either wired or wirelessly.

Hey ,  Welcome to the HP Support Forum.  I see that you're unable to print, scan or fax via Mac using your HP Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to help.  Have you tried plugging the printer into a different usb port on your Mac? If not, try all available usb ports to see if you get a different result. If you haven't been using the usb connection disregard this tip.  Try the following steps in sequence:   Uninstall your printer - click here for instructions.  Repair disk permissions on your Mac - click here for instructions.  Once you've finished running the above-noted utility, restart your computer. Lastly, click here to reinstall your printer. Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below and clicking to accept this solution. Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Have a great day!

  • Error message: "USB device drawing too much power"; Battery will no longer hold a charge. Help?

A few months back a jump drive broke while inserted in my Macbook (the computer fell sideways and cracked the jump drive). That particular USB port no longer works and I keep receiving an error message that tells me a USB device is drawing too much power, even though nothing is plugged into either port.
It wasn't a huge issue until my battery stopped holding a charge. The computer is usable while plugged in, but as soon as the cord is disconnected it will immediately shut down. I assume this has something to do with the faulty USB port.
In addition, my CD drive will no longer burn CDs. It will read CDs and allow me to open content from them, but it will no longer burn content to a new disc.
As soon as I am able I am taking the computer to the store to get checked out, but in the meantime I wanted to see if someone has experienced a similar problem and knows what needs to be replaced or repaired, and how much that might be.

I guess I should say, abnormally warm. Does it feel like there's a small heater going in there?
I don't think this is the kind of thing you want to undertake, not if you're asking about how to do it.   I don't know much about the insides of Macbooks other than the parts needing replacing are probably soldered to the rest of the computer.  It's really something you need an expert to investigate.

  • Constant error message: USB drawing too much power - no USB plugged in for weeks?

Starting about two days ago, I've been getting error messages about every 30 seconds saying that a usb device is drawing too much power, and my usb device has been disabled. I haven't had anything plugged into the usb ports for about 3 weeks, well before I started getting this error message. At first the error messages came up one at a time, but now about 5 of them pop up every 30 seconds..
There seems to be no visible damage to either of the usb ports, and I've updated software and restarted it too. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

If SMC and PRAM resets do not correct the problem, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.

  • Usb error message "USB over currnet notice" both usbs dont work.

Ive looked at many posts with my similar problem but nothing really answered it. I recently connected a digital camera with a usb cable. When I turned the camera on the error message came up that I "USB over current notice". I have a feeling that I might have burt the USB. Im not sure because i have been reading posts that say you can reset something, or might have to reinstall the operating system.
I would also like to mention that both USB's dont work. I plugged the camera in the USB closer to the user. The usb towards the back does not work at all. The one closer to me does do something. When I plug my ipod into that usb, the computer doesnt recognize it, and the ipod doesnt recognize that i plugged it in either. But when I unplug it from the computer, the ipod lights up recognizing that I have unplugged it.
It seems that it works very very little amount. Im thinking that I have a hardware problem. So does anyone know what it will cost, or what must be done to fix this problem. Not having a usb is not easy to live with.
Also, the firewire, camera, mousepad, keyboard and all that stuff works.

    hi there-
the first thing i would try is resetting the macbook smc. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319 when you restart the computer, reset pram by holding apple-option-p-r until you hear two sets of startup chimes instead of the usual one. if this doesn't help and you need repair, it depends on the extent of the damage how much the repair will cost. if you phone Apple (1-800-275-2273) or take it to a store, they can give you estimates for different types of repairs, but of course no one can know precisely what parts are needed unless the computer is examined. best of luck. • Problem connecting ipod-Error says USB malfunct & winXP does not recognize

Please can someone help a non-tech savy new ipod user. I have loaded the latest itunes, but not only does itunes not see my ipod, I get the following windows error when I plug it into the USB port. "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it". When I click on this, it says no drivers are loaded for this device. I have followed the 5Rs including the windows updates with no luck. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

Already done that. The USB port is 2.0 and is on the back of my computer and i am not using any dock or external hubs. The cable i am using is the one that came with my ipod when i bought it.
I connected the cable to ALL the USB ports just in case the one i was using was not working properly but the error continued. I also check that the USB ports are not protected (meaning the USB port is blocked and recognizes the ipod as a virus). I also deactivated the firewall just in case it was blocking itunes or the apple mobile device support.
I've done everything and i am freaking out!! Please help meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! thanks anyway lllaass

  • Error message: USB device was drawing too much power

I get this message whenever I plug anything into the USB port on the left side of my Air. It works fine when I try using the port on the right side. Do I need to send it in, or can I fix it?
Details: It doesn't matter if I am connected to power or not. Most recently, the devices that got the message are a Cruzer flash drive and the cable for my iPod (without the iPod connected to the other end). I only ever use one port at a time, so nothing else is plugged in.

If it's multiple peripherals on the same side (port) of the machine then it's most likely a hardware issue that will require you to bring the machine in for service. Out of curiosity, do you have USB peripheral/device that has an optional A/C adapter that you can connect? Such as "desktop" grade external hard drive? Also, is the port actually disabled when that message appears? I've seen some machines display that message but not actually disable the port.
Still, it's probably time to bring it in.

  • Have IPAD 1 and since uploading os5 I cannot upload pictures from my Sony camera. Error message reads the USB is not compatable. I'm not sure about the new os, how do I go back to what worked?

Have an IPad 1 and since upgrading to os 5 nothing seems to be working as before.  Current problem is I cannot upload pictures from my camera...error message "USB not compatable".  Using Apple's converter...how do I go back to the old OS?

    Nirve-
I do not think there will be any way to revert back to an earlier system.
The "current" problem with some cameras and card adapters resulted from Apple changing the amount of current available to USB devices, apparently to prevent them from running down the iPad's battery.  It appeared when the iOS was updated from 3 to 4.  On my iPad 2, I find that a little bit more current is available now under iOS 5.
One way to get around the problem is by using a powered USB hub.  Another is to remove the card from the camera and use the SD adapter from the Camera Connection Kit.  If your Sony used a CF card, then you will need to find a CF-to-USB adapter that does not draw too much current.  I have one that works, but also have a couple that do not.

  • Toshiba PX1267E-1G32 Ext HD Error Message says USB device has malfunctioned

    Hi
I have Windows XP and have been using my Toshiba External HD for a few years.
    I am a novice.
Suddenly yesterday the below message appeared and I cannot get any computer to recognise the device.
    "+USB Device Not Recognized+
+One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. For assisstance in solving this problem click this message+."
I've tried to reinstall the drivers from the internet & the HDD CD but the same message occurs.
I've installed it onto another computer and the same error message.
The device still makes a noise and the blue light is on but no other action.
Is there anything I can easily do?
    Many thanks in anticipation

    > I thought that sort of stuff wasn't meant to happen to external drives....
Why not? The external HDD is the same like an internal notebook HDD which dies as well
    > Any other suggestions welcome
    I assume this is a 3.5 HDD
You could remove this HDD from the HDD case and could connect this HDD directly to an desktop PC using an IDE or SATA cable (Im not sure if this is an SATA or IDE HDD).
If the BIOS would recognize the HDD then you would have good chances to get access to the data stored on this HDD.

  • Get USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned error message

Hi All, my first post. iPod was working fine and been synching without issue for 2 years. I have recently had a couple of intermittent problems where it gets stuck playing and will not respond to clicking on wheel. However, seemed to be over that but now get USB error when I plug it into PC. ie PC is not recognising the hardware. Have done 4 of the 5 R's (does not register in iTunes so cannot restore). Have read other articles with interest but not seem anything quite the same.
I have been into Device Manager via the USB troubleshooter and tried to force it to load drivers from the installation CD but thinks it does not need any. Feels like I have plugged a potato into the USB socket rather than an IPOD. Got a suspicion that the iPod itself is corrupt and not being recognised by Windows.
Got same result on another PC with iTunes installed.
    Any ideas ?

Yep - same error messages - looks like it can't find drivers but when I try and get it to search for them on installation disk it says it can't find anything more appropriate than current settings (which btw says does not need any drivers !).
Great so a few of us have the same issue. Does anyone have an answer ? Is there anyway of getting these questions to Apple or did they cut their support costs by replacing tech support with discussion groups.

  • Random restarts, Software malfunction? Error message.

    Hi everyone!
I would like to ask for your help. My MacBook Pro started the have a malfunction about 1 month ago.
It has been randomly restarting by itself. As you can imagine this can be very annoying when you are working on your projects.... (saving every second)
So basically I brought my mbp to an apple store where they ran all the hardware tests. They said it was the Hard Drive so I bought a brand new hdd and replaced it by myself, reinstalled the system (mountain lion) without a problem. BUT A day after, when I fully copied al my documents from the hard drive I had before (wasn't damaged physically) the restarting started again.
I would highly appreciate if anyone could advise me what to do... since I changed the hard drive and apple said there are no hardware problems.
After all the restarts (there were a lot) I always got an error message which is the following:

Hi, thank you. I brought my computer to an apple store genius bar already and they said there is no hardware problem.
They said, they have no personnel to read the kernel panic... I'm in France.
Then you went to a store that does not seem to have qualified personnel.  This is the extract from the kernel panic report that clearly indicates the GPU issue:
Whether your HDD has a problem is a separate issue, but there is no indication here that there is a HDD problem.

  • Windows 7 64bit has an MTP USB Device Failed error message when I attach my Ipad1

I keep getting an MTP USB Device Failed error message when I plug in my USB cable into my Ipad1.  Can someone help?

This is NOT resolved.  The "Upper..."Key in the registry editor doesn't exist as you can see below in the image I am providing.  This is still an OUTSTANDING issue, can someone please help with resolving this issue, super frustrating.
This is not just an iPAD issue, I get the same problem with my iPhone as well, both (iPhone and iPad) have the latest iOS 6.1.3 installed as well.

I don't have anything else plugged into my MBP, so I am confused as to what's going on.  This problem has never happened before.  MBP is less than a year old - about 9 months old.  HELP

    Get a powered USB hub.

pairing the apple equipment is not a big deal just wanted to add songs from itunes wirelessly.
You can only add songs to your iOS device from iTunes via Wi-Fi sync or via your cable, not Bluetooth.

That's an entirely different issue, unrelated to your iOS devices.

  • TS1369 Hello! I have an Ipod Shuffle 2nd Generation and it is not recognized by my Windows 8 based laptop. An error message of 'USB device not recognized' is shown. I have the latest ITunes version installed, and tested the dock in other pc's.

    Hello!
I have a problem connecting my Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation to my Windows 8 based laptop. The computer doesn't recognize the Ipod and issues an error message saying 'USB device not recognized'. I tried uninstaling ITunes(latest version) and all other Apple software and reinstaling it back again, checked my USB hubs in the 'Device Manager' section of the Control Panel, you name it.
I could really use some help solving this.
I've turned to the troubleshooting section in Apple Support but it has nothing concerning situations in wich the device isn't even shown in the 'My Computer' folder.
Help a brother out, will you???

Found a solution in another forum http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-63733-ipod-not-detected-on-computer (a few posts down).
It was for an IPOD so you can see those details in the link.
Found how to reset a shuffle and inserted it into these instructions - did not have to follow his last steps.
    - Turn off computer.
    - Plug Shuffle into usb.
    - Then you must reset your shuffle
    To reset iPod shuffle:
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).

    - Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
    - Your i pod will say do not unplug so don't. then open itunes and it will be there.
I did not have to do these thing below – did not get error message and shuffle was displayed in Itunes. / LMc
Just remember to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it.
Stop it and select "apple ipod".
