Error message when burning discs on a MacBook and MacPro Desktop

I have encountered a problem burning a CD-R with the MacBook. I created 12 image files (JPEG) totaling 48 MB. I placed them in a Burn Folder and tried to burn them to a CD-R. I recevied the following error message "Burning the disc failed because an unexpected error occurred (error Code 0x80020000). The same problem occurred on my MacPro desktop. I spoke with an Apple technician. She had me reset the hardware on my desktop. When that did not work she told me the disk was bad. I tried a different brand of CD-R and a DVD disk with the same results. She suggested that I reinstall the operating system. Since it happened on both of my Apple computers it seems to me that the problem is related to a software bug, since it is unlikely that both machines went bad at the same time. The MacBook is only 3 months old and the MacPro desktop a little over a year old. Today I discovered that the desktop would burn a CD-R if I had only one image file in the Burn folder. Has anyone run into this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Thank you for your reply. I have some additional information that may help you. I initially found that if I tried to burn 12 JPEG image files to a CD-R I received the error message I reported in my first post. If, however, I only tried to burn 3 files to the CD-R, they were burned onto the CD and I was able to retrieve them. If I tried to burn more than 3 files it did not work.
I took my MacBook to the Apple store Genius counter yesterday to get some help and was able to exactly reproduce the errors. The Apple techs suggested replacing the CD/DVD drive. I am waiting for the new drive to arrive. In the mean time, I discovered that if I included any number of files and sub-folders in a single main folder, and then tried to burn that main folder it worked. I was subsequently able to successfully burn a single folder containing 300MB of files and sub-folders. This seems to me to be a bug in the Mac OS, especially since it happened in exactly the same way on 2 different late model Macs. Hope this helps. Let me know if you can reproduce my experience or have any additiona information.

I can't burn a disc from my playlists. I have the newest version of iTunes but I do not have the burn icon at the top of the page. The only way I can initialize a burn is to right-click the playlist and select "burn playlist to disc". The burn begins properly but somewhere before it is finished it cancels itself and gives me the following message : Unable to burn disc. An unknown error occurred (4251). Any suggestions?

I am having a problem burning cd's and dvd's. I have a 20" iMac G5 with leopard installed. I have tried using iTunes and Toast Titanium 7 to burn and both wont work.
The error message I receive is
    "The drive reported an error:

I am thinking my burner in my iMac is fried. Does anyone have a clue what is wrong with it? Should i just bring it in for service?
    Thanks

I'm having the same problem (Sense errors) with an iMac G5 running 10.4.11; have no idea what's causing it I'm afraid, but it's driving me nutty. It coasters DVDs almost all of the time, but CDs seem to burn okay.
I'm upgrading it to 10.5 this weekend though; I had been hoping that Leopard might magic the problem away, but reading this has dashed that hope

  • HT5678 I get an error message when trying to actualise my MacBook Air. It is running OSX 10.8.3

I get an error message when trying to actualise my MacBook Air. It is running OSX 10.8.3. Exactly the same thing happens on my iMac24 !!

I'm having a similar problem. Using software update, iTunes 8.2 begins to download. It gets to about 41 megabytes and then times out. I get various error messages including that I'm not connected to the internet, and the directory didn't have the right permissions, etc.
I don't really use iTunes that much, but I use my iPhone ALL the time and would like to upgrade my iPhone software. Unfortunately, I have to have iTunes 8.2 to do that.
Is anyone from Apple listening?? There seem to be multiple posts about this problem. This is a very un-Mac-like problem.
    Thanks

It sounds as if your browser and some of your apps are not color-managed.  This is pretty typical.  Even IE9 is only partially color-managed.
You can expect color-managed and non-color-managed applications to show you different things with the same images.  How different will depend upon how different your monitor color profile is from the image's color profile.
For web publication and most general use, experts usually advise saving images with the sRGB profile.  If such images, saved through the Save for Web & Devices function, look different to you than you expect, it may be that your input images have previously been saved in another color space.
You should really try to get your head around color-management by reading more on it.  It can seem baffling and it's difficult to understand without some background.  A quick web search turns up many overviews.  Beware, though, even people writing articles sometimes don't fully understand it.

  • Error message when burning a disc of photos

I was trying to burn a disc of a large number of photos - around 400, and I got this error message:  "The burn to the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry."  I did a sample burn of about 5 or 6 photos and it worked fine, but this large project failed.  I have a total of 1200 pictures I'm trying to burn.  Any advice?  Thanks for your help.  I have spent hours trying to get this project done.  It looks like it is in the "preparing to burn" stage for 10 or so minutes, then when it gets ready to burn, I get the failure message.  Thanks again!

    Take your choice:
    Bad discs
Dust bunnies in drive blocking laser
    Drive failing
    Crashed/corrupt firmware controlling drive
    Crashed system component
Try different brand of discs and/or slower burn speed
You don't say anything about your model computer.  With some you can reset software.  Of course sometimes restarting a computer can help.

There are a bunch of folders within your home folder, you may want to decide what exactly you want to back up or not.
Besides your personal folders (Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures), you may want to decide whether you need to back up the library folder. The library folder generally contains preferences for most of your applications, and also caches and applications support files. These can become really big in some cases (Mine is more than 8GB, will not fit on a dual layer DVD). And the Library>Caches folder contains temporary files that will change from time to time, this might be the cause of your previous error since the shortcut is no longer valid.
Once you chose your files and make sure they will fit on your blank CD/DVD, you can just do what you did before, drag the folders to a Burn folder, make sure you are not running any other apps, so they won't be modifying the files.
There are programs you can use to backup to CD/DVD, Disc burner like Toast will span across several discs if the data does not fit on one. For a more automated solution, Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html) can backup to disc images which you can then burn to discs. I personally don't know a lot backup programs that provide good support for CD/DVDs, so I'll leave this to other folks.
If you are going to backup regularly, I would recommend spending some money on an external drive. You can find quite a few free software for automated backup and saves money and time on burning CD/DVDs. Plus you have the advantage of being able to boot from the external drive should anything bad happened to your internal one.

  • Getting error message when burning DVD

I keep getting an error message when I try to burn my DVD in iDVD 08. I have imported the movie in quicktime format from iMovie HD and everything works fine until I go to burn the project. I renders everything else but when it get to the movie it has an error and cancels the burn.

Suggestion: Not a bad idea to test the disc image with apple's dvd player app prior to burning.

I prefer to use Toast for burning an image to Dvd-R (verbatim at 4x or slower for best results).

Not my personal favorite choice ... however it is possible to burn thru apple's disc utility like this:

  • Error messages when burning to discs.

I have one of the original Macminis with only 256 Mb Ram, running 10.4.11 and have been very content with it until recently. When trying to burn Slideshows to disc from iDVD, or backing up to disc from iTunes or iPhoto I find it commences the operation, then ejects the disc with the following message "Burn Failed. The burn to the Matshita DVD-R Uj-835F drive failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." Instinctively I feel this means that the laser in the Superdrive is kaput. Is this a correct assumption, and is there anything I can do about it without sending off the Service Centres?
    Grateful for all help.

The first possibility to consider before a serious hardware failure in the drive is that the lens in dirty - this can create the error message you see. Given the mini seems a little prone to the ingress of small particles of debris I would therefore suggest you try an inexpensive lens cleaner.
If it turns out the drive truly is defective, my recommendation would not be to send it off for repair, but simply replace the drive with a Firewire external DVD burner. That would generally be of very similar cost (or actually less) than a repair, but provide you with a higher performance unit which is less fussy on media.

  • Error message when burning dvd

I have a flat panel 17" iMac with a superdrive. I have recently tried to back-up data onto a dvd. When I hit the burn button I soon get an error message. When I eject the dvd and put it back in to play nothing happens and the dvd is ejected only when I open iTunes. On a third and forth attempt the dvd gets spit out without any burn attempt.
Strangely, the first dvd I put in that was not readable on my machine I put in a Windows machine, which appears to read the dvd and I see the folders that I tried to burn, but obviously cannot open the files because it is a Windows machine.
I have read the discussions and dvd issues seem to be rife. I thought I had applecare but it appears it hasn't been registered and this issue is being addressed with apple. So I have not managed as yet to get any apple support.
Can anyone shed any light on my problem?
    Thanks
PS: The reason for the back-ups is that I am soon going to upgrade to Tiger. I see from discussions that issues about dvds are rife.

I didn't note the message I'm afraid. However I have just tried to burn a dvd again and got the message 'An error occurred while burning the disc. This disc cannot be used.' I have tried the burn with two different dvds and I don't think the discs are the wrong ones. One was DVD-RW and the other was DVD-R. I recall that on another occasion there was an error number, which might have been 303, but I can't be sure of that figure.
Whilst on burning to disc, I want to make an image of a folder. I follow the instructions of navigating to the folder and click on it but the resulting image is only of the folder and not its contents. Am I doing something wrong here too?
    Thanks.

  • Error message when burning HD with iDVD

When i try to burn a HD movie directly from iMovieHD( v. 5,02) with iDVD( v. 5.0.1), i get an error message code OX8002006D, followed by another:
"Burning Finished.---errors were found during burning process."
and "there was a problem during multiplexing/burning"
and the disk is ejected blank.
With a Standard Definition movie, using the same DVD-R or DVD+R disks(4X) and same procedure, i have no problem. The movie was only about 2 minutes long with about 19 GB available.
Anybody out there who knows what's wrong?
    Hans

  • "Drive Reported an Error" message when burning a DVD+RW

    Hi, all!
I am trying to burn a rewritable DVD, HP DVD+RW on my Matshita R UJ 857E and each time I try I always get the following message:
    *Drive Reported an Error:*
    *Sense Key = MEDIUM ERROR*
    *Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03*
This happens with a few RW DVD disks that I tried to burn. The disks are HP disks and they work correctly on a PC.
    Please, advise!

After reading and testing a lot, I am convinced this is a DVD ROM problem. I believe, MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E has some problems with some brands DVD+R discs.
I simply cannot figure out what is the reason to go on using those dvd roms in MakBooks after so many problems reported...
