Error message when plugging in usb port?

When plugging in the new ipod nano into my computer I get this message:
Power Surge on Hub Port:
A usb device has malfunctioned and exceeded the poewr limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device.
I just bought this i-pod nano yesterday. What do I do?

What do I do?
Plug the iPod directly into the computer's usb port instead of the hub. Or, use a power hub if the one you have is not powered by ac.

  • Error message when plugging in ipod

I have two ipods, ipod touch 2nd gen and ipod nano 6th gen. both get the same error message when plugged into itunes that says that it detects the ipod but cannot connect to it because there is an ID error.  I've gone through all the steps to ID the ipod, even reformatted the ipod nano and still am not getting anywhere.  I've followed some of the steps from some of the other community questions with no results. If someone knows any other suggestions I'm open.  It worked fine until the recent iTunes update. Is it their way of forcing you to get the newer products?

    Hi erinstab,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I'd recommend starting with these steps if your iPod nano is not recognized correctly by iTunes or your PC:
Plug the device directly into a high-power USB 2.0 port on the computer. If possible, use a USB port on the back of the computer.
Avoid plugging the device into a keyboard, display, or standalone hub. The USB ports on these accessories may be low-power or only offer USB 1.x connections.
If you are using an accessory, remove the accessory and connect the device to the computer using only the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cable.
If you have access to additional Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or Lightning to USB Cables, try testing with another if the first one doesn't work.
Restart your computer and device. To restart your device:
Hold the power button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the Sleep/Wake button to turn it back on.
Disconnect all USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then reconnect the iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect other USB devices, testing after each connection.

  • Error when plugging into USB Port--Insufficient Power

    Hello...wondering if I can get some advice/assistance.
On my G4, when I plug in my 5th Gen IPod via Firewire, I get the "not supported," which I'm okay with. But when I plug into a USB Port, I get "insufficient power" at ports from the keyboard and my hub (which even has its own electrical supply). Must I plug directly into the G4 Tower?
Post here, or even better, pls email me at [email protected]

  • Nano 3rd generationg error message when plug in

i recently got an ipod nano 3rd generation. when i plug it in to my 2.0 USB (windows xp) it says that device detected but "error occurred during hardware insallation" and that "problems may occur while using the device". the store guys say its something to do with computers over one year old. ive done every trouble shoot and they want me to bring in my PC because they say " there is a special way around it" when ive checked for every possible update for my drivers.itunes does not pick up the ipod, there is no "do not disconnect" on the ipod yet it charges, also in device manager there is an exclamation point next to ipod. does anybody know how to get this thing working besides the apple suggests on its website.
p.s ( it works fine on two other new laptops)

Same issue here. When i first plugged it in I already had my 5G iPod video plugged in as well so I'm wondering if that caused the problem...but even though I uninstall the ipod from the USB list and re-try installation without my other ipod plugged in it will still give me the same error message.

  • IPod error message when plugged into Macbook Pro

My iPod will charge to my Macbook Pro for a moment or so then I get an error message stating that "This device or accessory is not supported..yadda yadda yadda" I have never had this happen in the past. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    T4,
Then the pods that you have seem not to electrically match with your Mac, as the others that you tried seemed ok, am I right in this understanding?
On the iPhone it has a very unique plug configuration that seems to set specifically for the iPhone, because it is a 4 conductor connector (one is for the microphone) that may make other pods not work properly. (yes this is an Apple thing, AAAAARRRRGGGG!!!!)
But that would then confirm that there is not anything wrong with your Mac, as those Apple pods are for the iPhone, I guess both good and bad news.
I don't use my iPhone to listen to music, nor do I use pods either, unless the artist I am working with is, then I use the same make and model so I can "hear what they hear".
I do pro audio for a living and I can understand this "crosstalk issue with the 4th connector"
But without getting too technical,  it would seem your Mac is just fine, which is a good thing.
I would think that the newer Macs will be more compatible with the Apple iPhone pods, but they all seem to have their issues with the switching system...for years now!
Hope this helps you understand this "FRUIT FLY"
My suggestion is to use "regular headphones/ear pods with your Mac and the Apple iPhone pods with the phone. )I only have ever used the iPhone pods with the iPhone when I'm driving, and with only the iPhone. I have much better sounding pods/phones that I use to "ACTUALLY' listen to music with....and it a'int MP3/4

  • IPnone 4s not recognized by Envy dv7-7333cl rnning Windows 8 when plugged into usb port

Laptop does not recognize iPhone 4s when plugged into any of the 4 usb ports. All usb drivers are up to date. All Win 8 and HP udates have been installed and are current. Ports do recognize memory sticks so seem to be working. Is there a special driver needed for iPhone?

    Hey texasbootz,
I'll have to get you to answer a few questions to understand what is going on exactly:
When the iPhone is plugged into the notebook, does it charge?
When the iPhone is plugged into the notebook, does it show up in device manager?
    Is iTunes installed?
If it is not charged when plugged in, it is possible that the cable you are using isn't functioning properly, and you may need a replacement. Or, the iPhone itself is having some issues.
In any case, since other devices are working in all of your USB ports, it is possible that its either a software issue (with the iPhone's drivers) or an issue with the iPhone case. You'll have to contact Apple for support on either of those issues. I'd suggest trying to re/install iTunes, see if that fixes it, then to contact Apple.
    Hope this helps!

  • Error message when plugging into iTunes

I keep getting error messages that say something like my computer cannot read my iPod hard drive or that iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod.
For what reasons am I constantly receiving these messages? My theory is one of the following: 1) I bought my 5th Gen. iPod they day they came out and I just got a crappy one from the first batch off the factory floor; 2) some kind of magnet is destroying my information; or 3) I am downloading some kind of corrupted podcasts.
If someone has any suggestions or recommendations, I would be forever grateful. I'm just really tired of constantly re-downloading all my songs and podcasts on my iPod. It's an annoying waste of time and my iPod is just so unreliable.
    Thanks!

  • Get an error message when plugging in a card reader that says "cannot use device. The connected USB device requires too much power".

Is there a way around this?

She has to be using some version of the camera connection kit doesn't she? Only way to get a card reader plugged into an iPad.
if the cards are SD cards, then plugging them directly iinto the camera connection kit is the best way. If they're not SD cards, then you can use the USB attachment to plug your camera directly into the iPad.
If you're using a device beyond the camera or an SD card, some have reported success using a powered USB hub to allow plugging hte camera connection kit to other card readers.
Basically, the USB out of the iPad only puts out a limited amount of power. About a year ago, it put out more and people could plug in card readers and keyboards and even mice, but Apple changed the power configuration so now most things do not work.

  • Error message when plug in ipad "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. The device is no longer connected."

I set up my iPad a couple months ago, but it wasn't really customized. I plugged it into my computer for the first time in a couple months and got this error that kept popping up so constantly that I could not do anything in iTunes when it was up, but when I exited out it came back up immediately unless I unplugged the iPad altogether. I tried restoring it to update it, but now it won't connect via iTunes nor to wifi to set it up. Currently stuck, what can I do?

I have the same problem. In fact when I plug in my iPad 2 updated to ios 7.0.4 I get that same message and it crashes my entire system - forcing me to reboot.

  • Error message when connecting through USB

"One of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it."
I've tried plugging it into several different ports and restarting my computer. I have the latest edition of iTunes on my PC. I was able to connect it to the computer at work and Windows was able to recognize it there. Any suggestions?

  • IPOD error message when plugging it into Macbook

My Ipod has been acting up lately. It happened before and I went through the restore process and lost ALL of my songs, videos, playlists, etc. The process is painful to rebuild, and now that I have done that, it's telling me the same thing again.
"The disk "*****"'s IPOD was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk asap."
Does anybody know how to fix this once and for all or to fix it so I don't lose ALL my files again. I can't even add new music anymore. It is a fix for a Mac that I'm looking for.
    Thanks...

I dont think i can help you much with this because you have a mac and macs are alot different. And I've never had a message like that, so sorry.
