Error message when trying to overwrite file on export

I am new to Mac and FCP, and I'm trying to go through all of the steps I would do in a normal workflow. I exported a sequence from FCP, which had chapter marks, and was verifying they made their way into DVD Pro. After viewing them in DVD Pro, I closed DVD Pro, made additional changes to the sequence in FCP, went to export them with the same name, and got an error indicating the file was open "and in use by this or another application" (after clicking on "Replace"). I had quit DVD Pro between exporting from FCP, so would think the OS would have released the file.
Anybody else have this problem?

This isn't a problem with the application. It's a way to protect you from overwriting something accidentally. If you want to replace a file it is always best to remove it from any application that the file is linked to.
What do you mean to remove it from any application that the file is linked to? After I import the QT file into DVD Pro, then quit DVD Pro, is the QT file still linked to the DVD Pro app?
Doesn't that make the "Replace" function useless? In most OS the "Replace" is used to protect against inadvertent clobbering of a file.
I could see getting the error if I had left DVD Pro open with the QT file, but I wouldn't expect an issue if I closed the DVD Pro project, and even more so, if I quit DVD Pro.
I know some apps in the PC world don't do the proper housecleaning (releasing file handles) after closing a file from within an app, but the OS releases the handles once the app is closed.

This started happening latge in the day recently and usually a reboot solved the problem
but i am getting this every time I try open an image. What is the problerm and what are
    the solutions?
    Thank you john

Just thought I would update. I reinstalled PS CS6 since I had the disk available and the error message did not come back. I then launched Bridge CC and I was able to launch from Bridge without the error message but the file opened in PS CS6 so I checked my file associations in Bridge CC and they were all set to CS6 (odd) but I changed the associations for jpeg and NEF to PS CC and I tried to launch the files. ERROR MESSAGE it is the same one as I noted in yesterdays message. Any suggestions?
When I did the reinstall of CS6 it was right over the top of PS CS6. Should I do the same with CC? How do I do that? Just download from Creative Cloud Manager?
    Thanks

  • I get error message when trying to delete files on Macbook Pro.

I am trying to delete files on my Macbook Pro, Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 -  I get this message: "The operation can’t  be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50) "  This is a folder.  Under Finder/Get Info I have unlocked the padlock in lower right corner, and the padlock box is not checked.
    Please HELP!

You should always backup your iPad before ever doing anything major that coould result in a catastrophic loss is something goes wrong. You can then usually restore from the backup when your iPad has recovered.
You should also be sure to have transfered any new purchases directly to your iPad to the iTunes app on your computer on a regular basis.

  • Error message when trying to copy files from memory stick to MacBookPro

Trying to copy files from my memory stick to my MacBookPro and have started to get a crazy error message - "Attempting to copy to the disk Macintosh HD failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I've never had a problem before today. Any help will be welcomed!

Try this. When the stick is mounted on your desktop, right click "Get Info" and at the bottom choose "ignore ownership on this drive." See if that works.

  • Error message when trying to link files. Xinet?

"Error: Unable to report an error [Exception Code}! Please report this to
    Xinet technical support."
This is what one of our users is getting when attempting to link files from an InDesign job on her machine. We have no idea what this is (Xinet?).
Any ideas? As of right now, she cannot link to the files that are present locally (all files are on her machine, not a DVD, or a server).
    Thank you!

I've never heard of Xinet before, but after thirty seconds with Google, I start getting stuff like this:
Password-protected security and access control lists keep proprietary
information safe, ensuring that each Xinet WebNative Suite user has
access only to the portion of the file system and archive where their
    data is stored.
I'd bet that some of the images on that DVD have been hoovered out of a Xinet workflow. Seeing as Xinet is a "Digital Asset Management System" (retch), I'd likewise bet that your error has something to do with being outside of that workflow.
Secure your assets with Access Control Lists and by
adding WebNative Portal, the proxy-server based front end for
    Web-accessed networks.
Perhaps there's some sort of plugin you need? Somewhere around the twentieth second of my Google search I found this:
    http://xinetusersgroup.org/?tag=indesign
    Perhaps you'd best ask there.

  • Receive error message when trying to attach file to email

I receive "there was an error attaching this file" when I try to attach pages document to email.

I think you're trying to send mail from a web page. It's a known issue with Gmail, at least, that it won't accept new-style iWork documents as attachments because it misidentifies them as malware. The workaround is to export the document in PDF format and send that.

  • I am using elements 8 and have installed the latest RAW plug in, however I am still getting an error message when trying to open files.  My camera (nikon d7100) shows as a supported camera.  Any suggestions?

The plug in version is 6.2.0.29, which shows that is supports my camera.

    Hi Sully172,
    Please check the below link
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
It clearly states that D7100 requires a minimum camera raw version of 7.4
I would advise you to either use the camera raw dng converter or upgrade to Photoshop Elements 13.
    Thanks

  • I receive the follwing error message when trying to open my ipod touch/itunes "the itunes libary.itlfile is lockedon  a lockdisk or you do not have write permission on this file. How do I resolve this problem?

I receive the follwing error message when trying to open my ipod touch/itunes "the itunes libary.itlfile is lockedon  a lockdisk or you do not have write permission on this file. How do I resolve this problem?

    Repair iTunes Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Securitytab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.
If you've brought over the library from another computer you may also want to remove any "mystery" identities (S<string of dashes & digts>) that have come over from the old computer...
The images above are from Windows 7. Hopefully the system isn't too different in Windows 8.

  • I receive the following error message when trying to install QuickTime for Windows "Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."

I recieve the following error message when trying to install Quicktime for Windows "Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."  I just trying to get the latest version of iTunes.  Thanks

"Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

I get the following error message when trying to download ITunes on my computer running Windows XP - Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple Application Support\CFNetwork.dll

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Why do I get "generic error" message when trying to upload a self-created, 1hr .wmv file?

I went through the forums and made sure that any blocks or copywrites weren't triggered by the file, it's clean and can be opened using a media player and other video editing software like windows MovieMaker. I keep getting "The importer reported a generic error" message and have no idea how to proceed. Can someone please help?

Re: Why do I get "generic error" message when trying to upload a self-created, 1hr .wmv  file?
This ARTICLE starts with a checklist on setting up a computer to run PrE best, then goes into a series of links for tuning up one's computer and OS, and then links on troubleshooting.
There is also a link on posting all necessary info, to help others help you.
Without knowing much more about your system, it is impossible to say much beyond that WMV's are tough assests to work with, requiring a lot of CPU horsepower.
