  • Mail Icon is missing, and unable to open from Applications.  (Mail 3.6 is not supported is the error message)  I am on Lion OSX 10.7.3.

I closed the mail folder when I did a software update.  This morning, the mail icon is missing, and am not able to open from applications, or find it anyware in the toolbar.    Error message says that Mail 3.6 is not supported by OSX Lion 10.7.3

Xcode 4.x cannot be installed on Snow Leopard.  You need a 3.x.  So if that is what you used then yes, you need to install lion.   If connect.apple.com still alows registration or logins using an existing appleid then you could download the last xcode 3.2.6 for free.

  • I get an error message when purchasing mountain lion

I currently have Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I just freshly formatted and re-installed Mac OS X and Windows 7 on a partition using bootcamp.  The last time I tried installing 10.8 it failed because it was unable to create a partition it needed (I forget details).  I got a refund for the 19.99 purchase.
Now I'm trying to purchase it again, but the 19.99 price changes to "Download".  I did not purchase it again as far as I'm aware.  When I click "Download" I get an error message "The update is for an app downloaded with a different Apple ID.  Sign in with that Apple ID and try again."
I don't have and never did have another Apple ID.  What's the problem here?

    Try resetting the App Store.

    - It will take you to a folder.  Delete com.apple.appstore

  • Why suddenly all these Java error messages since upgrading to Lion?

Since I upgraded to OSX 10.8.2, suddenly I'm having no end of error messages having to do with Java not running—everything from coupon printer plug-in to online games not functioning anymore. All of these worked fine in 10.7.4. Is there a fix?

Since it is such a seething whole of exploits, Apple has disabled Java by default, both the JRE and the Web Applet launcher in Safari.
If you try to run a Java application, it will ask if you want to install it.
If you're just using web applets, you won't get asked. So, open Java Preferences which is in the /Applications/Utilities folder. It will ask if you want to install Java.
Then, open Safari preferences, Security tab, and enable Java.

  • Error Message while installing Mountain Lion

I have updated one Mac and now trying to update my 2nd Mac.  I continue to receive the following error:
An error occured whil preparing the installtion disk.  Try running this application again.
    Any suggestions??

    And the error message is...exactly?

  • Error message at end of lion install??

Im not sure what the exact message is, Ive received it twice now...i download Lion, but then it says it cannot be installed.  I'm running OS snow leopard, newest version, imac from june of 08.  I have all the right specs...Im not sure whats going on.  every time it errors out I'm at work, =(  I just want to know whats going on so I dont keep trying.

    Thanks a lot Ajlan,
I tried installing the .exe file and it says it is not a valid Win32 program.
I can't even open the .msi file.
I used to have Reader on my computer and it worked, but for some reason now it doesn't. It doesn't show up on my Programs list and so cannot uninstall if I don't have obviously; I do have a recent version of Flashplayer that I was prompted to upgrade to.
Also, .pdf files have the right logo in the folders and desktop, and I can save files as .pdf in dropbox from this computer and open them on another computer using dropbox and they work. This might seem obvious to you but I'm a beginner so it's just in case, FYI.
Thanks for anymore help you can give me!

  • Error message during installation of Lion..."The disc is not formatted for mac os extended (journaled).  But it is according to disc utility and won't finish installing.

I go to disc utility and verify and repair disc permissions.  Doesn't work.  I try to enable journalling but it isn't highlighted and am not able to do that as well.

I meet all those requirements.  core 2 duo and latest snow leopard.  I have a late 2006 mac book.  Maybe that's why.  Its telling me that my hard drive isn't formatted correctly but it is formatted as they ask.  It's not the hard drive that came with the macbook though.

  • I keep getting an error message when trying install Lion

"The software could not be verified.  It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."

Indicates a corrupted DL. Do it again. Don't you just love this new, but unimproved delivery system?

    Thanks for fast response.
I already tried C12, no luck. I did read C17, but that did not help either.
I agree that Apple should really spend a bit more time on ensuring this common problem is resolved more quickly
But where to do you sent this request to?  Doesn't seem easy to find a person to send it to.
I dumped by corporate wIn-pc environment that I was forced to use for the past ...forever.  Have been delighted with the Mac experience..... for 24 months..but these type of un-resolved matters with terse error messages reminds me of the bad old days.
I had the problem 2 weeks ago and solved it by "clicking about" after reading the forum  Can't remember what i did though. V. V. V. frustrating when the Mac is a business tool.  I don't want to be a mechanic, I want to be a driver.
    Thanks again for your help

  • Error Messages on Initial Launch 3.1.4 on Mac

I tried to follow the "Mac Installation Notes" as closely as I could.
    - Download the file above
    O.K.
    - Extract the zip file into any folder, using folder names
How? When you double-click on a .tar file, MacOS feeds it to the Archive Utility, which extracts it into the same location. In my case, I had dragged it from the Downloads file onto the Desktop before double-clicking. The result was a file named "OracleDataModeler.app" which can be launched directly. However, it does have internal structure, which can be accessed by a right-click followed by selecting "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
    - Within that folder, expand the datamodeler folder and execute datamodeler.sh
I was able to do this with Terminal, resulting in the following sequence. Please notice the error messages. OS is Lion (10.7.5).
At this point, the program is launched, but it won't operate correctly. In particular, any attempt to save a design results in about two dozen error messages of the form, "Can not write document to file: <filename>".
Thanks in advance for any ideas on how to get this working on a Mac running Lion.

Looks like it's also mandatory to set the directories in Tools .. Preferences .. Data Modeler before doing any file manipulation. That is, the defaults (blank) are unworkable, and no clue is given as to either best practices for setting them, or at the minimum the constraints on what they might be for the product to work. The lack of basic setup documentation makes the out-of-box experience (OBE) for this product on the Mac very poor.

  • For weeks I have been viewing a doggy day care via their web cam.  This weekend I upgraded to Lion and have been unable to view the center since.  I get an error message for java webcam class not found.  All of my software is up to date--suggestions?

For weeks I have been viewing a doggy day care center via their web cam.  This weekend I upgraded to Lion and have been unable to view the center.  I get an error message for Java plug-in 1.6.0_29 ....webcam class not found.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Sorry, don't know what else to suggest unless there's a URL to the problem stream that someone here can try. Otherwise we can't test it to try and determine what might be wrong.
BTW, make sure they're testing it with a Mac, not with a Windows system. If they test only with Windows, what they say is or is not working doesn't mean much.

  • My Epson 7900  gives me an error message now that I have installed Lion.

As soon as I install lion my epson printer 7900 refused to work. All i get is an error message now. I know this is a new o/s but you would have thought it would have worked with a popular printer like this. Anyone got any ideas. I ve already checked on the epson site for a new driver but they dont semmed to have one. I am quite desperate to get my work out as I am a photographer and have clients waiting for their pictures. Any help would be appreciated.

Which Epson printer?  The Epson LP-7900 is support with a driver avaiable from Apples SU server:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669
The SP7900 is a speciality printer.  You will need to download the latest driver from Epson.  Their latest 10.6 driver should work.

after upgrading to mountain lion i keep getting an error message saying my startup disc is full. it shouldnt be full because there is barely anything on there and i was running windows with bootcamp prior to this with no issues. my computer now freezes and programs close randomly. The usual command for opening windows with bootcamp doesnt work. once in restarted my computer after it froze and it rebooted in windows automatically. i really just want to know if there is a way to take the upgrade off my laptop because it is very annoying.

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.
    Matt
