Hi,
#h1:35:respawn:/etc/init.d/init.cssd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null
by commenting above line in initttab file would stop messaging, is this would have any adverse affect on the database. As its a production server, so i am really taking time to resolve it. Your suggestions are welcome. If there is no harm in commenting the above line then i would go forward to comment that line.
Thanks

  • Redirecting Weblogic Logs to /var/log/messages

    Hi all,
I've seen a few threads on here regarding this but they're all for older WLS versions.  I'm trying to get my server messages into /var/log/messages.
I've seen and read a few posts about this and using log4j.  I've added the necessary jars to the domain/lib folder and created a log4j.properties file and its the latter part I think is the issue....
I've tried adding it to the setDomain.sh CLASSPATH and the also to the servers classpath in the WLS Console, however I can't see any record of it getting picked up in the logs.
The server is set to log4j and I've confirmed this using WLST.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Weblogic is version 11.1.1.7
    Thanks
    Dave

    There could be two reasons:
    1. You have to exit GGSCI and restart again for GLOBALS changes to take effect, which you may not have done.
    2. you might still be using SYSLOG in manager parameter file which overrides the GLOBALS setting as per the below explaination from Oracle.
"You can use SYSLOG as a GLOBALS or Manager parameter, or both. When present in the GLOBALS parameter file, it controls message filtering for all of the Oracle GoldenGate processes on the system. When present in the Manager parameter file, it controls message filtering only for the Manager process. If used in both the GLOBALS and Manager parameter files, the Manager setting overrides the GLOBALS setting for the Manager process."

  • ICal doesn't show delegation, and generates date and time error messages in /var/log/system.log

I have a problem with my iCal, when I use my caldav account, I can only see my own calendar on my MBA, on my co-workers MBP it works fine with both my account and his. My co-worker can't see other calendars than his own when he uses iCal on my laptop.
We can reproduce this problem on his computer by setting Location to Automatic rather than Amsterdam, then after deleting iCal's cache files, the caldav account and setting the Location back to Amsterdam solves the problem for him.
It does not solve the problem for me (or several other co-workers). We've been looking at this for a few weeks, and we can not find any clear pattern why certain machines have this problem and others don't.
All machines (both affected and unaffected) are running Mac OS 10.7.2 with iCal 5.0.1
I've spoken to Apple support over the phone (in the Netherlands), unfortunately, they couldn't help with this.
So far we've tried numerous location and language settings, but on affected machines nothing appears to solve the delegation problem (which we assume to be connected to the error messages iCal generates)
Starting iCal yeilds the following error messages in /var/log/system.log:

  • Permanently set /var/log/messages* to mode 644

What process constantly changes /var/log/messages* mode back to 640? I want to disable that. Thanks.

I would guess logrotate.  Have you checked /etc/logrotate.d/syslog?  Does it specify a particular permission there?
If not specified, logrotate should retain the permissions of the existing file.

upgrading to osx 10.6.8 fails. I see errors in the /var/log/install.log of "An unexpected error occurred while moving files to the final destination." Underlying Error=(Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=5 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Input/out. Any thoughts on what is causing these errors and the upgrade failure?
    Thanks

I have no idea what the specific error code means but input/output errors can sometimes mean a disk is failing. Make a couple of backups of all important data before doing anything else.
Verify your startup disk using the First Aid tab in Disk Utility. If the disk needs repair boot from your Leopard DVD and repair your disk from Disk Utility under Utilities on the screen after you choose your language. Repeat the repair process until Disk Utility reports all is well.
If Disk Utility doesn't find any errors you might want to try a new download of the update and keep a sharp eye on your HD for anything else that might indicate all is not well. Take special care to back up important data.
If Disk Utility finds errors it would probably be a good idea to pay a visit to the Apple Store to have them check out your hard drive even if Disk Utility is able to repair the errors.

This issue on hostname `kapttdw2` seems to be the same as you reported in your other thread for hostname `kapttdw1`.

Perhaps you just need to label these disks (as you were advised for those other disks).
Also, since these drives are in an EMC peripheral, you might consider opening a support case with that storage vendor and get advice from them.

  • Strange error in /var/log/messages and /var/log/warn

    Hi,
    I get following error continuosly:
    kernel: sg_write: data in/out 404/404 bytes for SCSI command 0xd--guessing data in;
kernel: program java not setting count and/or reply_len properly
    Any idea?

    Hi,
    #h1:35:respawn:/etc/init.d/init.cssd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null
by commenting above line in initttab file would stop messaging, is this would have any adverse affect on the database. As its a production server, so i am really taking time to resolve it. Your suggestions are welcome. If there is no harm in commenting the above line then i would go forward to comment that line.
    Thanks

    May 15 10:11:43 bir_sys1 utdevmgrd[3168]: [ID 192918 daemon.warning] Restarting ...

    This is the significant message:
*utdevmgrd[14281]: [ID 331289 daemon.error] dm getpeername: Transport endpoint is not connected*
    *utdevmgrd[14281]: [ID 273529 daemon.notice] Quit 1*
This implies that the Device Manager (utdevmgrd) is not starting up properly.
The rest of the messages are coming from the various daemons that rely on the Device Manager (utstoraged, utseriald, utparalleld).
It implies to me that your network may not be configured properly, or else your /etc/opt/SUNWut/utadmin.conf file is specifying a hostname that does not match your local host (admin.server.name).
I would check the value of admin.server.name in /etc/opt/SUNWut/utadmin.conf, and /etc/hosts to make sure the same hostname is there, and then 'ifconfig -a' to make sure that IP address is configured and active on an interface that is UP and RUNNING.
Have you changed your hostname since you ran 'utconfig'? Or did you copy this file from another system? Either is unlikely to produce the expected result. If you've done either of these, what are you trying to accomplish?

  • Never ending "pseudo-device: devinfo0" messages in /var/adm/messages

    Hi,
we are running a machine that generates the following two messages continously (with a time space of 5sec.).
    [...] genunix: [ID 936769 kern.info] devinfo0 is /pseudo/devinfo@0
    [...] [ID 129642 kern.info] pseudo-device: devinfo0
During the machine is in this cycle you can not connect via ssh or other services.
What is the job of devinfo0???
What is the reasen for the continous messages?
    best regards,
    tobi

Hmm, i wonder if the devinfo messages are the problem or just a symptom of another problem..
I have no good idea of what would cause this problem, but i'ld suggest that you add the latest Solaris 8 patch cluster, in particular if the box haven't been patched lately.
You could also check what processes which are running, and try to determine if anyone of them seems to be missbehaving.
    Is the devinfo module loaded?
    modinfo |grep -i devinfo
    7/M.

  • Cmn_err doesnt log to /var/adm/messages

    HI,
I am trying cmn_err to log my messages using different error level. But it is not logging messages to /var/adm/messages file, also not printing on console. I have tried diff options like ! ^ etc. but all efforts proved futile. Can anyone help me?
    - Mayur Talati

We had a problem on one system similar to yours.
It tured out that the problem was caused by someone
removing /usr/ccs/bin/m4 in order to favor a locally
installed version of m4 in /usr/local/bin. The problem is,
the syslog daemon needs to find m4 when it starts
and apparently it must be in /usr/ccs/bin/m4.
Check if you have /usr/ccs/bin/m4 on your system and
look in /var/adm/messages for any syslogd startup errors.

Zariel wrote:Boot from where? If you want the entire boot process you can use debug parameter. BUT I dont know what you will get becauseyour harddrive gets mounted during init, and during init it dumps dmesg to a log file, i guess dmesg gets its logs from minilogd which also gets started during init. The only way of doing it would be to get the kernel to log its output to ram then flush it to disk at the relevant time. Ive no idea if you can do this or not.
I just boot normally from my hard disk, but all the messages between "INIT version 2.86 booting" and the output from /etc/issue (when login is started), is gone. It's not in /var/log/messages nor do I get it via dmsg.
All the kernel messages BEFORE "INIT version 2.86 booting" are logged okay.
