Error msg: System Preferences not available on this Mac?

I want to change my screensaver -- I last did it in the Fall of 2010. Now I get this error message? When I use Finder to search for System Preferences, the icon is faint with a strike through it. How can I CHANGE system preferences? Did this happen with last update of the OS? Or when I set up iCloud to use with my iPad2? Just had my iMac in the Apple Store and Genius Bar kept it overnight after checking out fail messages regarding the Drive and directories after running Tech Tool Deluxe. They ran other checks and said it was all clean and the Drive is fine. But what's this new issue?

It sounds like the System Prefs app is damaged.
What version of OSX are you running? Assuming it's not Lion, you should be able to use the Pacifist app to extract it from the Install disc.
Or, reinstall OSX. See Installing the ''combo'' update and/or Reinstalling OSX.

- Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
- Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button?

Why an Error Message "Valid size not available for this Creation" in Elements 10 Photo Collage

I have several image editing programs, but I bought Elements 10 specifically to do things the others wouldn't. I wish to make a photo collage but all I get when I try, after following the instructions in the "help" and "Elements 10 for Dummies" is an error message stating "Valid Size not available for this Creation." A meaningless phrase anyway because nowhere does it request a "valid size." Please will someone tell me the magiac words to make my lovely collage automaticaslly, or shall I revert to doing it manually on one of my other excellant image editing programs?

Hi Shell126 - We certainly want you to be able to easily manage the account while so far from home! Have you tested a different web browser? Also try clearing the cookie and temporary internet files on your current browser. I am eager to help get this resolved!

Photomerge error msg - valid size not available

When I select photomerge from the Organizer, I get consistantly get the message "valid size not available for this creation". Can't go any further. I thought that maybe my selected photos were too large, but even making them small doesn't help. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Barbara - yes I did. But I just solved the problem using a suggestion you
had made in an earlier thread: leave the editor, then restart editor holding
down the cntl-alt-shift keys until you get the message to clear the editor's
prefs. It worked. Thanks for your (earlier) help.

System Preferences Not Available

I am having trouble with my Trackpad and wireless keyboard randomly not working. When this happens (both together) they will not come back on untill I force a reboot with the on/off button. I have now noticed that when this happens the Systems Preferenced button will not open the System Preferences window. It is becoming a real issue as it can happen at any time.

Is your data backed up from before this happened? If not, you'll probably need to recover your data and piecemeal put it back together from the parts that are not system related. There are numerous tools for data recovery here: My data has become inaccessible, and I don't have a backup!
If you are backed up, recover all but any applications that affect system cache. These can stop important applications such as System Preferences from being able to launch.

Mac or Windows? This error generally occurs when there's an unusual setup regarding where Muse is installed (network drive install or unusual permissions settings) or where the users temp folder or documents folders are targetted. If the documents folder is redirected to a volume that's not (yet) mounted, that can cause this error.

This is a cropped image - of course hungarian, because I'm hungarian, but I think many of us could see this as well. How this is possible? "The Skype can not start because the system is not available" *** What kind of system? The Skype was on a P2P system, where is impossible that the system is not available! This is why the skype was much better than the Microsoft's messenger. Then they bought it, and make it wrong...
I found a solution for this problem, this can happen if my client is not updated. But IT IS!
How does it works? Can we use the **bleep** Skype how we would like to use? Or this time we need to find an other application (like Viber), and using that while they not buying that as well, just because that is better?

Where did you rent them from?
iTunes? If so are they downloaded enough that they can be played?
If from another App, its best to contact the App developer.

Encore CS5: The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system...

Hi guys, I am needing assistance with this matter. I have read up on similar threads (mostly commented on my Bill Hunt), but I fear I may be missing something. Can anyboy please assist me?
Here's the background:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit.
Video footage format: AVCHD 1440 X 1080 (1.333) 25fps, 48KHz
Photoshop Images: 1440 X 1080 (1.333)
I have been running CS4 Master collection for the past year and a half, with minimal hassles in encore (except for the early patch that needed to be downloaded and applied for some or other transcoding error in Encore CS4).
Right, so we bought the CS5 Master collection upgrade, and all applications are running great, except Encore. The moment I have completed editing my hour-long video in Premiere Pro CS5, I "send to Encore" via Dynamic Link. (This is the way I have been operating countless times in CS4. However now, in Encore CS5, the programme opens with all the regular project settings and saving dialogues, but the the moment it looks as though Encore is going get going, it stalls and doesnt respond, forcing me to close and try again.
So I tried the other way around. I restarted Encore, created a new project, in a new project folder, encore opens, and I chose to Import as "new timeline" selecting the Premiere project of choice. This time around, i don't get a crash out of Encore, instead I get the following message:
"The software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system.
Installing the correct decoders for the files you are working with may help to correct the problem."
So I googled the matter, and came up with Bill's response to the same problem (expect the date that it was posted was back in 2009). I am would desperately like to know if there is a solution, a patch, a workaround of some sorts that can help me get back to my usual workflow. I am pretty screwed without encore at this present moment, and the work is piling up. Can anybody help?

I am having the same problem however I end up having hardware error "Sense code 52102"
My video capture is similar to yours except I am using HD (Canon HNV model Legria HV40)
The process takes a long time and I have breaks in my recording to DVD and with no sound - once it completed after 40 hours.
I have wasted over 20 DVD's trying different things.

I have not tried what you did buy opening up Encore and importing to new timeline , let me do that and see if I get the same message.

The files we're shot with HD cameras. Edited in Premiere Pro CS3. I installed the update 3.0.1 with still the same error.
I also tried a brand new project and after about ten or so files being imported into a timeline, the system crash. I tried this twice....

       Here is the skinny. A window base PC. footage shot with HD sony HD cameras, Project imported to Premiere CS3. Once completed sent file to Adobe media encoder and render them as H.264 widescreen high Quality. Imported them to Adobe Encore CS3. After about ten files or so. I got the error message. Did all the basic trouble shoot like restarting the computer, got latest patch. Even build a new test project with the same problem.
    Something else I read in the forums, is the encore will transcoded the project to Mpeg 2 anyway, after looking at my project I realized those few files were indeed untranscoded. So it will be a double compression and I dont want that. So, my new question is, what is H.264 good for ?????????? I was research that Mpeg 2 is a faster render but H.264 is a slower render but better quality.....

Hello everyone, it will be nice if someone can give any tips/tricks to fix this error.
We have two web tiers (load balanced). This error showes up only on one of the web tiers (we can name is node-B). When we keep node-A down and try with node-b up this error is thrown. The vice-versa works fine.
Error:
*"Function not available to this responsibility. Change*
*responsibilities or contact your System Administrtator."*
This error appears when clinking on a particular form.
The final troubleshooting we have done, is to clone node-B from node-A and still the error persists.
