Error - Music Cannot Be Played on this iPod?

I bought an audio book from iTunes, "The Chronicles of Narnia (Audio Drama)".
When buying it, I had the intent of copying it to my iPod and listening to it at work.
Most of it copied over just fine, but five of the files said "cannot be played on this iPod."  I'm really upset!  Why would they sell something not compatible with my iPod?
I have a iPod Nano 6th Gen.
Is there a way to force these five files to play on my iPod?
Thank you.
EDIT:  It's a 16GB and it still says I have 8GB of space free.

I am in a similar boat. I added several new podcasts to iTunes 7 and they sync's as normal. But instead of playing, they caused my iPod (5th Gen) to crash and reboot. These are voice only. I reset several times but no joy.
I have my iPod doing a Restore as I write this. As it started I had a message that one podcast which has 4 video episodes is not compatible. Yet it was on there 30 minutes ago and I had no notice then of compatibility issues.
It was not one that caused the iPod to crash. Those that did had similar info as to encoding parameters and versions as podcasts which play fine. I am now waiting for the restore to finish so I can see if the same culprits that caused the crashes do so now.

i just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios 5, and updated to itunes 10.5. but when i synced my music files, ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod. but those are the same files that i have when i was using the old 4.1 version and its syncing just fine.. the itunes advanced tab "create iphone or ipod version" is not working either so i cant convert it to be xferred and synced. what can i do to have my video files synced?

i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

  • "...because they cannot be played on this ipod" ERROR

Bought a brand new 30GB Ipod for my girlfriend. Trying to copy songs to it but whenever I import a CD to ITunes and then try to copy it to the iPod I get the error message:
"Some of the songs weren't copied...because they cannot be played on this ipod".
Huh? What's that? "Some" actually means all songs. Can't copy any CD songs. I've had an iPod mini for ages and have never seen this before.
    Help most needed. Thanks.

I had the same problem but I found a way to fix it. See if this works for you...
When you put a CD in, highlight all the songs on the CD and convert them to MP3s. Once all the songs you selected have been converted to MP3s drag them to your library. Once in your library drag them to your ipod. It worked like a charm.
I also got this error when I bought a song from itunes. I save the file to my desktop, dragged it to my library and then to my ipod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Songs "not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod"

After having my ipod stolen i purchased a new Ipod classic. When syncing my music to my ipod i get an error on a number of songs, "not copied to ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod." This did not happen with my old ipod which i purchased just one year prior. Why can these songs not be played on my new ipod?

"I bought this song on iTunes - wrote the song to CD - made an MP3. Then tried to copy the song (MP3) to my Nano."
Was there some particular reason you did this? I'm just curious as to why you didn't leave it as an AAC file.
Do you still have the original downloaded AAC file and does this play on the iPod ok?

  • One of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the ipod because they cannot be played on this ipod

i have been trying to figure what the problem with my ipod touch is, im downloading songs from a different source and not itunes store, recently i have had a msg being displayed at the end of synching 'some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the ipod because they cannot be played on this ipod'. however the songs play fine in itunes.
i have re-installed itunes several times, deleted all my music and iported it again. retored my ipod and still i have the same msg. its only stating 8 songs so far that cannot be copied onto my ipod. please can someone help as ive tried everything that i can possibly do. thanks.

    Hello mobyash,
Have you tried converting each of these 8 tracks to a different file format and seeing if they will then sync to your iPod.  See this Apple support document for information and instructions on how to convert a song to a different format.

  • (Item) was not copied to the iPod (Name)'s iPod Touch because it cannot be played on this iPod

Last week I purchased Star Wars the Clone Wars: Season 5 off of the iTunes store. I have purchased all previous seasons over the years and they have been able to play on my iPod. But when I purchased this new season, whenever I try to add the episodes to my device, an error comes up saying: "(Episode) was not copied to the iPod "(Name)'s iPod Touch" because it cannot be played on this iPod. This has never happened to me before, and I am very confused, and a bit frustrated. Does anyone know what this means and if there is a fix to it?

    Greetings Smallen8,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that while trying to sync a video from iTunes to your iPod touch, you receive an alert that the video cannot be played on your iPod. This can happen when you attempt to sync a HD video to your device. Please refer to the attached article for more information.
iTunes: Sync purchased HD videos to iPod or iOS device - Apple Support
When you try to sync a purchased HD video that isn't optimized for your device, you may see a message like this one:
HD videos purchased from the iTunes Store are offered in 720p or 1080p1 and are compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), Apple TV, and computers. You may need to download your purchased video from iTunes in the Cloud in a lower resolution for your device.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • Why do I get the message " 'Song Tiltle' was not copied to iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod"

I got a new gen iPod Classic (160G) for Christmas, purchased Bob Marley's Album "Legend" and when I sync the playlist to the iPod I get an error message saying this one song cannot be played on this iPod. What gives? Is it something about "I Shot the Sheriff" that my iPod has a moral disagreement with? It had no issue importing and installing Body Count's "Kop Killa"...I'm confounded by this issue; Please, Someone, Help!

    Not really likely, is it?
First of all, look on the iPod to see if the song is actually on there. (The last Sync of my Classic resulted in "song not copied... because it cannot be found." The song had previously been on the iPod. I checked and despite the fact that iTunes could not find the file, the song was still on my iPod. I checked the folder and the song was exactly where t was supposed to be. So I simply set iTunes to find it again. What happened? I don't know, iTunes simply threw a wobbly!)
Second, try another Sync. Does this change anything? If the song was on the iPod, does a second Sync remove the message?  If the song was not on the iPod after the first Sync, does the second one put it on there?
    What happens?

  • Was not copied because it cannot be played on this ipod

I am getting this message when I try to put songs on my ipod.
I have had the ipod for over a year and have never had any problems until now.
I bought an album of iTunes Store, burned an audio CD,imported it into iTunes as MP3 and tried to put the mp3 files on my ipod, but I keep getting the message This song was not copied because it cannot be played on this ipod, This has never happened before, any help appreciated. This is the way I have always managed my purchased music, has something changed within iTunes to stop you from doing this??

I'm having the same problem with files purchased from Apple, burned to CD, then imported as .mp3 files. The problem just started recently. This needs a fix as it is very annoying and makes me want to ditch this IPod.
The two solutions proposed in this forum will work but...
Rebuilding the library is very time consuming when you have a library with 30 GB. The other work around of removing files from the library then reimporting them also works, but is very time intensive for multiple files. Is there a way to get word to the folks who can fix this??
Thanks to those who offered the solutions.

  • I got a new iPod nano 7th gen., but when I tried downloading a video from my iTunes library a message popped up that said: Some of the videos in your iTunes library cannot be copied to your iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod.

I got a new iPod nano 7th gen, but when i tried downloading a video from my iTunes library a message popped up that said: Soem of the videos in your iTunes library were not copied to yor iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod. What should I do?

I kept having a similar problem - 3 out of the 10 videos I had on iTunes wouldn't sync. They were in the right format and I KNEW they worked on my iPod because I'd RECORDED them on my iPod. I finally figured out what to do! Go to the movies in your iTunes library. Click on one that does not sync. Click on "Advanced" at the top of iTunes and choose "Create iPod or iPhone version". Once that's finished, be sure you delete the old version so you don't keep getting the error (or have 2 copies of the same video) and sync. This should eliminate the problem. At least it did for me!

  • Itunes will not sync songs incorrectly "they cannot be played on this ipod"

Recently I had a loptop crash, this required a rebuild and a reinstall of itunes.
I resynced the ipod touch and promtly lost most songs! Now I am unable to sync all the songs back even after restoring them to the playlist (from backups); some songs fail to sync and I am presented with the message "some of the items in the itunes library were not copied to the ipod because they cannot be played on this ipod"
Does anyone know the cause and solution; I had bought the CD's and used this laptop to place them on the ipod. I am hoping to not need to import all the CD's again just to get the music back.
Also I have effectively 1 lost "authorised" PC - it crashed so I could not deauthorise before the rebuild. I suppose there is a risk the crash coulod have been caused by a hardware issue that may not have made it's only appearance. Is there anyway to reset this count or have the full list of authorsied cleared to start again?
    Thanks Cheers

I girst got this message when I tried to add songs from a different computer. Now I get it on my home PC as well.

  • "TV show can't be copied because it cannot be played in this iPod"Help Me!

I just purchased Dexter Season 1, episode 1, on iTunes and I am currently trying to sync it to my 1st gen ipod touch. Whenever i click sync tv show, the error message "TV show can't be copied because it cannot be played in this iPod" appears. I've searched the support forums and cannot find a solution. I have tried logging out and back in and I've also switched the episode from HD to SD. Still no luck. Someone please help me, it would be much appreciated, thank you.

Did you actually download the SD version? You need to download the correct version to iTunes before you can sync it to your touch.

  • My MP3s cannot be played on this iPod?

I just bought the newest-generation red 16GB iPod. I have a song that was NOT purchased in iTunes but that PLAYS in iTune, and which "was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod."
The song is an unprotected 160 kbps 44.100 kHz MP3 file--looking quickly I cannot tell in iTunes if it's variable rate.
I read some other forum questions and tried re-creating my iTunes library (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451) to no avail. I've also seen suggestions for converting the file format--especially when it comes to video, but also for some reason when it comes to MP3s. A) This seems silly, especially in light of the fact that B) the only option I seem to have is Apple Lossless, rather silly considering I'm converting from the lossiest of file formats.
To reiterate--this music was NOT bought in iTunes, then burnt and imported. This is a regular old (and I mean old) MP3 (MPEG-1, Layer 3) audio file.
Any help in keeping my temper in check and chucking my now largely useless iPod (it's happening with a LOT of the music I want to import) out the window would be MOST welcome.
I'm running build 8.0.0.35 on Windows Vista.

Thanks for the suggestions Jacob. I just tried the Convert ID3 Tags -- trying a few different options with no luck.
By iTunes MP3 converter, I'm not sure if you're referring to a feature inside iTunes -- which I don't seem to have (the only option is "Convert to Apple Lossless," which does work by the way but just seems awfully silly) -- or some external application. Could you clarify?
Many other MP3s work. I'm trying to analyze the differences between the ones that work and the ones that don't and have yet to see a real pattern. It seems more likely to happen with variable-rate encodings, but even that's not consistent...
I will say this--the ones that don't seem to be older MP3 files. Which kinda makes me wonder if it's not ID3-related... Do you have specific suggestions for which options I should try out with the "Convert ID3 Tags" option?
    Thanks again!

  • 'music' won't play on this ipod

hi, i've downloaded some mp3s (legally) on a couple of separate instances and both times itunes won't allow me to add it to my ipod. it'll play back in itunes fine. btw - it tries to play with quicktime player first until i add it to the itunes library but it looks like a regular .mp3 not a .mov so i don't know why it's opening in quicktime. any ideas? thanks.
tried on several macs all running latest versions of QT, itunes and am using the first generation video ipod 30GB.

I think I'm having the same problem. The MP3's I'm trying to play were purchased from www.jonathancoulton.com.
I get the error message 'Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "Skullcrusher Mountan", were not copied to the iPod "<iPod name>" because they cannot be played on this iPod.' which is really strange because Skullcrusher Mountain and the other things in the list are all songs in mp3 format, not video. They show up as songs in iTunes (Kind: MPEG audio file; Format: MPEG-1, Layer 3; and in fact, even: Encoded with: iTunes v6.0.3)
Has anyone else seen anything like this? I'm using iTunes 7.1.1 and just got this iPod and updated its firmware to 1.2.1.

  • My itunes wont sync some of my tv shows to my ipod classic. It says content cannot be played on this ipod. I bought the tv shows on itunes so they should work on my ipod.

I recently bought some new tv shows on itunes and they will not sync to my ipod classic. A alert window keeps popping up saying that these new tv shows and their content cannot be played on this ipod. I thought this was a little weird since all of my other tv shows will sync but not these ones. If someone could help me fix this problem that would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The explanation I immediately have is that you bought the HD version of your TV show.
HD videos are not able to be synced to iPod classics, which is unfortunate.
The bright side is that that means you can spend less money on your videos since standard definition (SD) videos cost almost half as much as HD.
You should still be able to play these videos on your computer, just not your iPod.
If you want a refund, you may want to try to contact Apple and they might give you iTunes store credits. You can read other posts on that and others' experience.
But the rundown is to go into iTunes, look at your Account. You can do this by going to the iTunes store and signing in, then clicking on your email address in the corner. Once you are viewing your account, scroll to your purchase history and click see all. Once you find the order, click on "Report a Problem". You should be able to email someone at Apple. In my experience with this, they are very understanding and will get you a refund or new iTunes store credits.
    I hope this helped.
