  • Error: no such device 36A84D5EA84D1DAD

    Hi,
I have both win7 professional and ubuntu 11.10 on my t410i.
Everything was ok, till I try onHackMe and it recognize some problems, it deleted my dlls and...After I restarted for finishing the task, my windows couldn't start....I deleted my c drive completely and restored my windows hardly to factory settings. Grub menu didn't change. And now both of Linux and windows works approximately good. But after I choose win7 in grub menu, before win startup I get this error:
    "Error: no such device 36A84D5EA84D1DAD
    Press any key to continue..."
It passing automatically after seconds, but I want to know what is it and how I can solve it?

HI shahrzad,   (This should probably be in the Linux forum)
I'm guessing here, but this is probably because the UUID of the Windows partition has changed.
You might be able to fix it by booting Ubuntu and running update-grub.
Otherwise, try posting in a Ubuntu forum, or googling "ubuntu windows 7 grub Error: no such device uuid changed" or something similar.
[edit] This is just one of the reasons I miss grub legacy.
    Good luck,
    Z.

  • Error no such device (after installation)

    Dear all,
I'd like to gradually switch to Arch (from Ubuntu) so I decided to install it on a virtual machine (Virtualbox).
I followed the instructions in the "Unofficial Beginners Guide" and I thought I followed all the steps correctly.
The only thing that confused me a bit was the installation of the Virtualbox Kernel modules (to me from the guide it
is not clear if I have to install them in Ubuntu, the system from which I run the virtual machine, or in Arch the system
that is installed in the virtual machine).
Anyway I think I followed the procedure in the right way, and I didn't get any error message during the installation,
but apparently I made something wrong.
When I boot Arch, I get the GRUB menu. I select "Arch GNU/Linux with core repo kernel",
but I get this error message:
error no such device: (device id)
    Loading Linux core repo...
    error: no such partition
    Loading initial ramdisk
error: you need to run the kernel first.
    Press any key to continue...
When I press any key I get back to the GRUB menu.
If I select "Arch GNU/Linux, with core repo kernel (Fallback initramfs)"
I get the same error message.
Can you help me understanding where things might have gone wrong?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help,
and hopefully I'll join you soon in this Arch adventure
    Best,
    Luca

You downloaded it or you tried to flash (with LiveUpdate)?

  • [SOLVED] [GRUB error] "no such device" "vmlinuz-linux not found"

    SOLUTION AT POST #11
I just completed the install process onto a new machine.  Grub starts but then returns these error messages.
Booting 'Arch GNU/Linux, with Linux core repo kernel'
    error: no such device: ad4103fa-d940-47ca-8506-301d8071d467.
Loading Linux core repo kernel ...
    error: file '/boot/vmlinuz-linux' not found.
    Loading initial ramdisk ...
error: you need to load the kernel first.
    Press any key to continue...
I installed Arch via a flashdrive (sdb), onto SATA port 1 (sda).  SDA has a fresh MBR.  Unfortunately, I have no way to post my grub config files.  What files must I modify to get GRUB to work properly?

    SOLUTION
    by: jynnantonix
Step 1: Start Arch via boot disc.
    Step 2: Connect to internet.
    Step 3: Mount partitions.
    # swapon dev/sdX
    # mount /dev/sdX /mnt
    # mount /dev/sdX /mnt/home
    # mount /dev/sdX /mnt/boot
    Step 4: Chroot
    # arch-chroot /mnt
    Step 5: Remake grub.conf
    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    Another Notable Tip by: jynnantonix
If you need to post information from terminal to the internet, use the following:
    [insert command here] | curl -F 'sprunge=<-' http://sprunge.us
    example: ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/ | curl -F 'sprunge=<-' http://sprunge.us
    example: cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg | curl -F 'sprunge=<-' http://sprunge.us

  • Disk Utility errors: No such file -or- No space left on device (50GB+ free)

I am trying to make an image out of a _NTFS formatted_ parition, using around 4,5GB of data, of a freshly installed Windozs. It's for debugging tons of machines I have been given (to debug..) and I need an image done. Note that debating if using an image as a solution is good or not is not the point of this thread.
When I try to make a new image out of the parition (clicking "New Image"), using the defaults settings, I enter my admin pass, then I'm being shown "No space left on device". Wierd. The device I am writing the image onto has 51GB left, and the Trash is emptied.
I tried changing the image format to all the possible types in Disk Utility, but I get the same error: No space left on device.
I then changed the device, this time I used a volume with 10GB free on it. Then, I only managed to get a standard DMG compressed image, where I need a "DVD/CD master" one. I'm still confused, because no other image type worked.
Then I tried making a new image (not from a disk or volume, empty) and then just copy data to it (I'm sure it's really not the way to go, but still). After creating the empty image (I opted for an 8GB, DVD burnable style, "DVD/CD master"), I got the wierd error: No such file (straigth after the image creation, in Disk Utility).
More info about volumes and stuff:
    Data to be imaged:
A single partition on a volume (connected with IDE to Mac Pro, but I don't see why it would matter)
    Where I can save it:
I got a big bunch of volumes right here, internally.
I tried one with 50GB free, but failed. Another one, on another disk, with 10GB, but failed.
Also, this error comes often in Disk Utility and other unix OS I think, and mostly for no real known reason (in OS X), as most issues I found were still unresolved.
    Thanks for any help

    Hey,
Im having the same exact problem.
Toast even says it has a medium error with this drive.
I cant burn with toast and it wont play other DVD-R movies
that I have burnt on other systems.
    What is the fix?

  • Athereos wifi gives strange "no such device" errors

I've installed madwifi and udev loads the module (ath_pci) automatically on start... But the Network script complains the ath0 doesn't exist when I boot up:
Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :
Set failed on device ath0 ; no such device.
Error, ath0: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device
Likewise, ifconfig doesn't show ath0 and iwconfig shows no wireless extensions. But I've got the right stuff in rc.conf:
    lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
    eth0="dhcp"
    ath0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(lo eth0 ath0)
    and in /etc/conf.d/wireless:
    wlan_ath0="ath0 essid MyEssid"
    WLAN_INTERFACES=(ath0)
Also, I don't know if this is part of the problem but lspci tells me this about my wifi:
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. Unknown device 001c (rev 01)
What gives? Is there a known software bug? Is this unsupported hardware, contrary to what I've read about this laptop?
(Hmm, I haven't tried loading it without the country code. I'll see if that works... No, still doesn't work. Bugger.)

Its working fine with 128 MB Disk

but my 128MB disk is working fine in both SUP and both slots..
And this only proves that the PCMCIA slot is not at fault.  So this means that:
256mb PCMCIA card is dead; or
256mb PCMCIA card is not standard (non-Cisco)
I do not believe the 256 mb PCMCIA card is not working because it's not formated.  Even if it's not formated properly the error message would've been different.

  • Kernel compiling - mount failed: No such device?

    Hello everyone!
I'm having an issue with mounting the linux kernel I've just compiled.  What I've done:
    -  I've patched linux-2.6.33.3 with patch-2.6.33.3-rt19 by issuing bzcat ../patch-2.6.33.3-rt19.bz2 | patch -p1
    -  sudo make -j4 all
    -  sudo make modules_install
    -  sudo mkinitcpio -g /boot/kernel26rt.img -k 2.6.33.3-rt19
    -  sudo cp ./arch/x86/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz2.6.33.3x86-rt
    -  sudo cp ./System.map /boot/System.map2.6.33.3x86-rt
    -  sudo rm /boot/System.map
    -  sudo ln -s /boot/System.map2.6.33.3x86-rt /boot/System.map
    -  Edit grub/menu.lst:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux2
    root (hd0,2)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-label/root ro

Now when I select the rt kernel from grub, it fails with:

    Look under "Common NFS Errors"
I'm guessing you haven't installed nfs-utils and portmap on the client. Or you haven't started them. In the right order (portmap, then nfslock - you don't need to start nfsd on the client)

You can work entirely in Xcode by using the command-line tool template in C. Xcode > File > New > Project > Command-Line Tool > Next > Language: C > Next > Create.
If you do want to work on the command line, you may as well just use the "clang" program instead. The "gcc" tool is just a compatibility tool for existing scripts that are expecting the actual "gcc" program. Apple hasn't used the real "gcc" for years. (Read up on the GPLv3 for more information.)
The gcc/clang arguments are the same. The "-c" flag instructs the compiler to only compile a single .c file into a .o object file. It won't create an executable. If you are only compiling a single source file, just omit the "-c" flag and the compiler will create an executable named "a.out" that you can run by typing "./a.out". You can specify "-o <executable name>" if you want to specify a name. Once you get more than a handful of source files, using the terminal starts to become a hassle. At that point, you definitely want to start using Xcode.
I'm not sure why you would try to compile "helloworlddot1.c" and then get an error message about "filename.c". Something else is wrong.
If you are working in the Terminal, it is easiest to use the "cd" command to move into the same directory as your source files. Then you don't have to keep typing the full path.
It is hard to say what the "best" community is. There are many to choose from.

If not - there is your error.
How does Oracle validate the raw file?File MUST exists (or link) AND it must be a RAW device.
You can check it by raw -qa (it should display all raw devices, with theirs major-minor pairs)

  • USBECHI error. USB devices cutting out

    Hi guys,
I am having a severe problem with my computer which happened ever since I installed my new motherboard: MSI 970A-G46
This is the error in event viewer:
"A timeout occurred while waiting for the EHCI host controller Interrupt on Async Advance Doorbell response."
I have updated bios to latest, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. And it still seems to happen, randomly at that.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks,

Yea, it sounds "severe" as I have no such device listed at all (EHCI host controller) in my G46-970a system...  I think you might have the syntax wrong. or quite possibly your OS is looking for a network device no longer in your network.  Do you by any chance have a 3rd-party USB card installed?  Doesn't sound like it, but then, there's no EHCI controller, either.  "Timeouts" generally occur across a network or the Internet--so it would appear your OS is attempting to query an "EHCI controller" and getting no response, and simply letting you know about it. "async Advance Doorbell response" sounds kind of kinky--like maybe your installation is looking for some kind of network burglar alarm system, or something...!   You said you reinstalled Windows, and if so, then you are running some sort of strange network software that is looking for a device it cannot find--or, heck, maybe you've simply picked up a virus--some of those virus guys have a sense of humor every now and then--like "Doorbell response," that may be an example.  Install MSE AV/malware software and scan all your drives just to eliminate that.
Also, your post lacks much in the way of critical information that would assist people in helping you--list of components, OS version, clocks, networks, etc. I'm just taking potshots here.  I can say with authority, though, that the message you're getting has nothing to do with your G46-970a.  After you scan for viruses and malware, I'd advise you to format c:\ and then reinstall Windows from scratch. (You should do this with any motherboard changeout as a matter of course.)  Good luck!
