Error occurred while converting the file "". You do not have the privilege

I have recently bought a new MacBook Pro and it's my first mac ever. I have imported all my songs into itunes from an external hard drive where i would keep all my music and video's. I went ahead and added it to my mac and everything plays and works fine but whenever i try to import a cd i get this message Error occurred while converting the file "(Song Title)". You do not have the privilege to make changes." I tried changing the sharing and permission settings on the drive but it won't let me so i have no idea on what to do next. Any help is appreciated!

So I'm trying to convert a movie for my ipod because it would not accept the current version but I go and try to convert it to an iphone or ipod version and it gives me this error "Error occured while converting this file An unknown error occured (-11828)" Any ideas?

    Hi, LongIsland14.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This issue would be related to a permission issue most likely with the iTunes Media folder.  Here are a couple articles that will help you troubleshoot this issue.

  • "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropiate permission

We subscribe to a service called "Vault" which provies its documents in encrypted PDFs using the etd format. As well as Digitial Editions we have Acrobat Reader 9 installed on our PCs (Windows XP,SP2). When a user tries to download any of the documents they are seeing the following error:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropiate permissions to access the item."
However, if they open Digitial Edtions (or have had it open at some point in the past) before they download the document it opens without any problems. We use ZEN works to manage our PCs, and we use something called Dynamic Local User (DLU) which means that when a students logs into a PC the user's local Windows account is created on the fly, and then when they log out it is then deleted. This means that they are effectively using Digitial Edtions for the first time everytime they log into a PC.
As anyone else seen the above error? Also, is there a way of stopping it? What does Digital Editions do the first time it is opened? Are there registry keys that we can add, which emulates the opening of Digital Editions so it doesn't have to be opened first before we can download the Vault documents?
Any advice/tips would be most welcome.

    Hi
Some required information are needed for us to help you.
    Hi NabeelOmer,
We wonder if you have taken any action such as system restore after this issue occurred.
You might also try this command to restore your access control list.
Run this command to navigate to the drive letter, example is D

To reset all permissions, run this command
    icacls * /reset /t /c /q
Visual Studio is a very invasive program and which provides the ability to enumerate projects and solutions for system, user should never try uninstalling it manually without any guidance.
Visual Studio made changes for your whole system, if the file has been moved or deleted this error would occur.
Since you mentioned that you get this error almost everywhere even in control panel. We suggest you repair/reinstall your Visual Studio first and check if it could be fixed.

I'm unable to import music to my new iMac. I put in the CD and it says that "an error occurred while converting the file. You do no have the privilege to make the changes."
    Anyone have any help?

    Hey Chris-
It has been some time since you posted this message and I see you haven't gotten any replies, but  I have the same issue and I was wondering if you figured out how to resolve it.  Hopefully you were able to figure it out.

  • When trying to import bought CD's (10yr old) to ITunes, it recognizes the album and the tracks, but when importing I get the error message '  Error occurred while converting 'songname' file. The required disk cannot be found

Seems also that the majority of CD's that have these problems are Warner Music published (I have roughly 20 that display the same problem)

    Windows and iTunes 10.
Had this problem "Error importing file .... songname .... iTunes cannot locate the required file" when trying to import a CD today.
My library is on an external USB hard drive.  iTunes from time to time not only loses its own library file, but also confuses windows into thinking that the library files do not exist.
So the fix where you re-tell iTunes where to find its own media file (using the preferences menu hidden behind some opaque icon for reasons that pass rational understanding) fails, and when you try to find the file using windows explorer, windows possibly confused by apple "helper" files, or possibly lost in a delusion of its own, also thinks there are no files in the music directory.  This despite usage stats on the disk still clearly showing that a lot of space is being used up by files that "aren't there".
The fix for this windows user is close everything down.  Reboot, restart iTunes and presto it as if iTunes's / Window's temporary amnesia never happened.
Last time I "lost" the library was when I did the "upgrade" to iTunes 10. I wrongly put this down to a pathetic upgrade utility. I now realise that iTunes/Windows just loses this key element of the plot from time to time, screwing up windows when it does so.
Astonished how flaky this widely used and let's face it hardly brand new software combination is.
Now I don't know if this spectacularly unhelpful performance is Apple's fault or Microsoft's or both, so I'm not going to bother apportioning my contempt.  Shame on both your houses for needless worry that I'd have to re-rate and re-sort everything from a virgin set of file back ups yet again.

  • Firefox updated to 6.0.1 and now I cannot open it, or even reload it, without the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file, You may not have the approprate permission to access the item."

This is a new problem... I've never had issues with Firefox before. I use firefox for everything at work and it is beyond inconvienent to not be able to access my websites, etc.

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.<br />
Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can skip the step to create a new profile, that is not necessary for this issue.

  • When i try to open firefox it tells me windows cannot access the specified device, path or file, you may not have the apperioate permission to open the item. I have tried to uninstall and re install and it still will not open.

this happened when i downloaded the latest patch and i have not been able to access it since.

I would expect wording related to connection, but see

  • "You did not have the privilege to make changes"

Hey all, I am new to the mac scene, and successully managed to transfer my itunes library from PC format to Mac format with the songs all stored on a USB Hard drive which works great.
However I have tried to rip a CD today and I get the following message:
"Error occured while converting the file - You did not have the privilege to make changes"
Why is this happening? Ive read that it may be a permission issue on the USB HD?
I have only had my mac for 1 day so my knowledge is very limited.
EDIT - Actually, could this be to do with how the USB is formatted? NTFS.
If so, will I have to buy another USB Hard Drive and literally drag and drop everything from the old one to the new one, formatted the correct way?
    Thanks
    James

    yes.
Mac OS X can natively read from, but not write to, NTFS formatted drives.
If so, will I have to buy another USB Hard Drive ... formatted the correct way?
that would be ideal. format the drive for Mac (HFS+).
alternatively, you could try installing the _*NTFS 3G*_ driver on the Mac.
    JGG
Thanks for that, I will download and install later.
Are there any limitations to using the above driver as against buying a new USB HD?
