Error Opening Database

Hi I have just repaired my Aperture 3.1 Database hoping that it would help with some difficulties I have with the software.
Now it is completed when I try to open Aperture I get the message "There was an error opening the database for the library “/Volumes/xxxxxx” and it won't let me open the program at all.
Any suggestions? (I don't really want to delete my preferences as it took me so long to get them streamlined!)

Have you give the launch options of Repair or Rebuild a try?
Make a backup of your library, then launch the app with Command and Option keys held down.
Choose a Repair and see if that helps getting past any error. Then rebuild if necessary.

my latpop had a kernel panic wihile i was using aperture to impor pictures "that yes i have deleated off the memory card," shut down and restarted. upon restarting i was presented with this error...

there was an error opening database for the library....
what is ....? Is the path to your main Aperture library printed there, or is Aperture trying to open a different location? If it is a different location, launch Aperture on your correct library, by double clicking the library.
If it is indeed trying to open the correct library package, try if repairing and rebuilding the library with the "first aid tools" will help, see this manual page on how to do this:
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
If the problem persists, when trying to repair, check if there is a crash report and post the first 60 lines.

  • Aperture error opening database for library

I was working in Aperture--deleting photos--when it crashed. My Mac Book Pro rebooted but in trying to open Aperture after it rebooted, I got this message:
"There was an error opening the database for the library “/Users/rick/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”. My only option on the pop-up was to quit.
I found a suggestion here online to find the Aperture library, hold Command-Option and double click the library which supposedly would bring up a repair menu. It didn't. I got the same message as i did on trying to open Aperure quoted above, and again the only option was to quit Now I can't even open Aperture.
Any ideas how to get my library back? Thanks.

Here is the Etresoft report. The only software I can recall recently installing is Dashlane. And I did have the local Apple store recently install new memory (from 4 GB to 8) but other than that I don't recall other changes. I believe Aperture is the most current version. To check, I'll have to log on to the other account because that is now the only way I can get Aperture to open. Should I do that?

  • Error opening database in aperture

Made a back up of aperture lib using time machine and now the lib will not open with error:
"There was an error opening the database for the library "~/Destop/Aperture Library.aplibrary".
I restored the file and still have the problem. Ran disk util and other checks of the machine and no joy!
Tried command-option without luck. Any other suggestions?

"Made a back up of aperture lib using time machine". What does that mean exactly? Time Machine should not be affecting your library unless you are trying to recover something from a time machine backup. But that is the opposite of what I think you are saying.
One thing to try is create a new fresh library and then try importing from your old library into the new library (File->Import->Library/Project...). If your library is large, this could take a long time.

  • Newbie ? - Error Opening Database After Recovery

    Hi All-
I'm new to Oracle and am using 9i - I'm working on cloning our Production db for a Test db.
I shutdown the Production db and copied all the files from that db into my Test db - I then started my Test db and recovered it. I am now trying to OPEN it, but am getting an error. I am hoping that someone out there with a little more experience and knowledge can help me with this issue.

  • Error opening database Windows service OracleServiceEMPREP

I just installed Oracle Grid Control 10.2.0.1 then upgraded it to 10.2.05 on Windows 2003 server.
I could open the service OracleServiceEMPREP at 10.2.0.1 but not after I upgraded to 10.2.0.5
This is the error I get.
Problem Description: Could not start the OracleServiceEMPREP service on Local Computer.

    Any advice?

<<Did you delete the db software by using universal uninstaller or just deleting a directory?>>
I deinstalled the software through the uninstaller.
Then I removed the Oracle directories.
    Then I reinstalled Oracle again.
I first installed 10.2.0.1 and the service worked.
I then upgraded to 10.2.0.5 and the service now doesn't work.

  • Error Open database!!!

My database is not archivelog mode.
We need to restore it but we don't have the BACKUP, only system and data datafiles.
When we open the database, ther is the error
ora 01113 AND ORA 01110 and we need to recovery the database and get functional.
Error: File need to recover 'n:\database\res1prod.ora'
Is it possible to restart the database ? If yes how can i do ?

Well, I really don't see how can you recover a database without a backup !
    One thing could try though
    STARTUP MOUNT the database,
    then issue ALTER DATABASE RECOVER.
When prompted for a log file name, respond with the name of your online redo log file, one by one.
Hopefully, the information needed for recovery is in the online redo log files

  • Aperture 3.1  "Error opening database for the library"

    Hey,
I've just returned from a two week gig, thousands of client photos to go through quickly and get out to them. Did a software update, did the Aperture 3.1 library. It asked me to update my library, I hit ok. Once it was done, I got this error:
My only choice is to quit. Any ideas on how to correct this quickly? Thanks a million!

Alright, so I did this, but when I hold down the option and command keys (both from the dock and from finder), I don't get first aid, but the upgrade window. I deleted my aperture library, and restored it using time machine to when it was used for the previous version, and it worked a couple of times, but now it wants me to update the library AGAIN. The only thing I can do is hold down option to select libraries, but that's kinda useless since there's only one I want.
    Any ideas?

    Lucas,
This appears to be a bug. That flag is not legal for one of the internal databases in the system and is not properly being cleared on open. That said, there are few cases where you'd really want to use that flag in BDB XML. What is your intent? Allowing readers to see not-yet-committed data is dangerous. Using MVCC is a better route for concurrent applications.

  • Master unable to open database

I am trying to run a replicated Berkeley DB instance and while the environment is created successfully and the master is elected, when the master attempts to open the database it returns an ENOENT. According the the documentation (and replication guide) this type of error occurs upon open when a replica attempts to open the database when it has not been created yet. While this makes sense for the replica, it doesn't seem like the master should ever return this error, particularly since the master has the DB_CREATE flag set. It is unclear to my why it is that the master replica is unable to open the database, does anyone know why this is occurring?
    Here is the relevant code:
    try
    u_int32_t envFlags;
// First initialize the database enviroment information
envFlags = DB_CREATE | // If the environment does not exist, create it.

Help, I had aperture open and working on a image and did not have a battery in and bumped the power off. As a result it will not open my master, it is locked. when I try to open that Library  it says There was an error opening the database for the library. I have tried every thing. I updated the other libr but now it will not open the main to update. What do I do?

Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down.  You'll get 3 options.
Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue.

  • "There was an error opening the database for the library "~/Pictures/Apert"

    Hey everyone,
There's already another discussion thread about this at the link below, but the problem was never actually resolved. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2343014&tstart=0&messageID=116 67261#11667261
So I stumbled across this problem where Aperture 3 will display the following error when opening the image library.
There was an error opening the database for the library “~[path]/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.
One user suggested navigating to the actual library, and ⌘⌥-clicking the library to open it with the Aperture Library First Aid dialog. This however, did not work for me. I still received the error messages upon ⌘⌥-clicking the library.
Here's a little hack I discovered for those of you still struggling. It doesn't fix the problem (leaves quite a large dent remaining actually), but hopefully someone can cultivate what little I discovered.
    ⌥-click Aperture (not the library)
You should get to the library selection dialog box. Create a new library (bottom right corner) and remember the location of the new library. Put a few random pictures in the new one.
    Close Aperture
⌃-click both the old and new libraries and "Show Package Contents."
Open the folder "Database" in both libraries.
Cross check the folders to see if the old library is missing files that are in the new library. If your old library is missing some files (mine was), drag the missing files from the new library to the old one.
    Close both folders.
    ⌘⌥-click the old library.
NOW, I got the Aperture Library First Aid dialog.
    Rebuild the library (3rd option)
    Wait a while.
Aperture should open up with a folder named "Recovered Folder." Within this folder will be a SINGLE project named "Recovered Project" with ALL the images from your old library. There may be a few albums there too, but mine were all empty so it didn't matter in my case. To my knowledge, I lost all the adjustments I performed too.
This is as far as I got. I have much of my library backed up, so I only needed to copy the most recent photos into the backup. I am NOT reorganizing and re-editing pictures in this one!
As Aperture is a photo-organizing and photo-editing software, I understand that this by no means fixes the problem, since you lose all organization and editing. But it enables one to at least view the images lost. Hopefully a more knowledgable hacker else can figure out how to fix this completely. Unfortunately, I simply don't have the time to continue messing with this.
Good luck to anyone else having issues! I understand the frustration you must be facing, its freaky having years worth of images simply disappear! After this incident, I'm definitely going to configure Time Machine to perform more frequent backups, since my latest backup was already a couple weeks old.

    Hey All,
To my horror I have a similar problem and your solution didn't seem to help. To be specific, I get the error:
"There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library_2.aplibrary" Everytime I try to run Aperture. This happened because my Apple computer shut off completely (due to bad battery) while importing photos from a memory card.
I've tried "option + command" while clicking the aperture application and that gave me the same error message without any other option except to quit the program. I tried "option + command" and clicked the library package but that didn't work either. I tried creating a new aperture library, opening it which I did successfully, and then switching to my main one but that didn't work.
Does anyone know away to get it to work again and have the edits still there?
I'm a professional photographer and have thousands of photos or so in the library so this is distressing. The master files for the photos are located on an external hard drive, but I'm not sure how to access them in aperture. Are all the edits on the photographs are in the external hard drive or the aperture library. Is there any other way to resolve this issue without losing the edits?
Does apple have a support number I can call? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • My Catalog - "Can't open Database" error

After being able to open Photoshop Album Starter Edition successfully and without incident several months ago, one day I received this error:
"Problem opening the Catalog named "My Catalog". Another user or application may have the catalog open, or one or more files may be missing, out of date, or damaged. [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access 97 Driver] can't open database 'unknown'. It may not be a database that your application recognizes or the file may be corrupt. Attempt to compact and recover this catalog then try again? - OK or Cancel"
If I choose OK, then I get another error:
"Catalog Recovery Incomplete - A problem was encountered during catalog recovery. Your catalog may be ok, but if you experience problems with it that can't be resolved through the Reover Catalog option or restarting your computer system you may need to restore this catalog from a backup. - OK"
That goes to a 3rd error message:
"Unable to open "My Catalog because it is damaged. Please choose: Open existing or Create a new catalog named My Catalog-1.psa"
If I choose existing, it goes to the folder where My Catalog is stored, I can click it, and then I receive the first message. If I choose create a new catalog, it does, then gives me the first error message. PSA SE never opens, but the photo downloader appears in my Task bar Notification area, and I can Launch, Enable/Disable or Exit that program. If I try to acquire a photo, I end up with the same first error message.
I've seen the other threads that address what may be close to this issue, and I've done all the fixes suggested, short of reinstalling WindowsXP, which I'd rather avoid, but I've had no luck - I still get the exact same error messages.
I am using Office 97, including Access, Word, Excel, etc. but I'm not having any issues with those. I'm also using Pagemaker 7.0 and no issues there related to a catalog or database. I did have at one time a trial copy of Illustrator, and this problem started occurring after that trial was expired. I've since uninstalled Illustrator, done all the fixes suggested here, deleted the My Catalog files, restarted, uninstalled and re-installed PSA SE3.2, and still it cannot 'see' My Catalog.
Any other suggestions (besides upgrading to Office-this decade, which I would love, but employer hasn't made that leap yet.)? TIA
    Tracey

No, no multiple users on this machine, or on that application. Both are located on the C: drive of a computer with intranet and internet access.
Could it have anything to do with the application Microsoft Access? [Microsoft ODBC Access97 driver] is named in the first error message. Access97 was always on this computer, but it wasn't actually put into use until about 6-8 months ago, and it was sometime after I started using it that I could no longer open PSA-SE. Connection? Fixable?
