iTunes cannot open in my new vista machine. After several fresh downloads of the iTunes client it still doesn't work. According the to error message the problem is not with iTunes per se, but quicktime. The following is a partial of the error message:

when I open iTunes using Vista its showing up as com and not iTunes

Vista is an operating system... you do not open anything with it.
What do you mean "its showing up as com"?  What is "com"?
Maybe try posting in your native language so that we have a better understanding of what the real issue is.

  • Unable to open Itunes in Vista - data execution prevention (DEP)

I'm unable to open itunes on my computer. I can install it but not open it. It says that the data execution prevention has stopped the running of the program. I have tried to change the settings of the data execution program, but it will not allow me to accept itunes - as it says that DEP has to be activated for itunes and cannot be deactivated. What do I do?

One temporary solution is to run itunes through XP rather than vista.
To do this go to the program icon (makes sure its not a shortcut, and the actual program icon, you can find this in your program files if its on on your desktop)
    sideclick on the icon
    go to properties
    compatibility tab
check Windows XP service pack 2
    tell it to apply
This should allow you to use itunes

  • Cannot open Itunes in Vista.

I have tried all the fixes and nothing works.  Itunes does not open in Vista.  Also, Cannot open itunes in safe mode.

    Many thanks.
Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
    Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

  • Error opening iTunes, says I don't have quicktime

I installed the itunes update yesterday, and when I tried to open it, it said I didn't have the right quick time update. I then separately installed the new quicktime update, and it still said it wasn't right. Today I deleted all my itunes files and folders and re installed it. And still it is coming up with an error message, any help?
Also, my roomate downloaded the new itunes, and her computer won't even boot up anymore.

when I go to add/remove programs, quicktime isn't there, where can I find it, other than there?
    let's try this.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the reinstall.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
(re your roommate's booting issue. does she have a Windows 2000 PC? if so, does she have one of the early Adaptec versions of Easy CD Creator 4 installed on it?)

  • Can't open iTunes in Vista

On clicking my iTunes icon an information box appears: "iTunes volume is currently turned all the way down". When I push "OK" or "X" there is no response. When I look in Task Manager it shows the program as running. When I open my Sound Control Panel it shows iTunes at full volume. All I can do is "End Task" to remove the information box - there is no way to open the actual iTunes program. My operating system is Windows Vista Ultimate. I have had many crashes of iTunes using this system but have always been able to reopen the program. A recent change is the downloading of a new Vista Service Pack - could this be the cause?

I'm having the exact same problem. I assumed I could just download an older version to correct the problem, but have been unable to. I would like to listen to my music (especially what I've purchased from iTunes), so I am eagerly anticipating a solution to this problem.

  • Error opening Itunes once downloaded

Downloaded itunes, everything went fine, go to open it and the following message comes up:
The folder "itunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "music" folder.
Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the program and still no luck. Anyone have any idea how to solve this problem, id really appreciate it
    Thank you
    Tam

The following is specific to Windows XP, I assume your sig is correct?
This can be due to a problem with cryptographic services due to a problem with cryptographic services.
First you need to be sure your system is free of malware as malware can cause problems with cryptographic services.
Run a full scan with the free version of Malwarebytes:
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/
There is no point in going on unless you are free of malware.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.

  • Error opening iTunes after update (its updated to 10.4  64-bit) ""itonersupport" could load in 64 bit mode"

I know how to swhitch to 32-bit mode. But it have to support 64-bits..
    Any suggestions?

    I think i found it:
Go to your user/library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins folder and then delete the plugin.
I think it was coming from the tool iToner, that i tested month ago.
Hint: You can find the file also with the search option in an open finder window.
Just click on the find field, then type "itoner"
    It is not schown.
Click on the sign for search options
Then click on the "type" popup and choose "system files" and then "include systemfiles"
Now itonersupport should be visible and you can delete it.

  • Error Opening iTunes with new install

I just reinstalled iTunes onto my father's Dell laptop running Windows XP SP2. I recieve the following error message when trying to run iTunes for the first time: "The folder 'iTunes' cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the 'My Music' folder."
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i cannot run iTunes on this PC.

Try holding down the shift key as you start itunes, and create a new library when given the chance.

  • Problems opening iTunes after installation - "QuickTime was not Found"

I am having trouble opening iTunes. Both iTunes and Quick time will download and install and I can open QuickTime without a problem, but when I open iTunes, I get the following error:
Open iTunes and an error opens:
"QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is required to run iTunse. Please uninstall iTunes and then install iTunes again."
I only have trouble when I am at home and not connected to my work network. I was able to start iTunes yesterday while in the office, but all my music is on my external hard drive at home. Not helpful!
I have tried about everything - uninstalled, reinstalled itunes and quick time, disabled bonjour, disabled the startup files, etc. I am still not having any luck.
    Any suggestions?

Both iTunes and Quick time will download and install and I can open QuickTime without a problem, but when I open iTunes, I get the following error:
    A bit unusual.
Did you do the QuickTime/iTunes install at work?
Is QuickTime still launching when you get the PC home?
(Wondering if something relating to the network at work have done odd things to QuickTime or iTunes registry entries ... possibly iTunes is looking for QuickTime on the wrong drive when you get the PC home, for example.)
