I can't open my Lightroom. I keep on getting the message:
Trying to open Lightroom. Get ERROR message:
Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.
Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches.
This has happened before.
I also can't get my Plug-ins (like Topaz and onOne) to work within Photoshop CC and Lightroom.
Not the first time this has happened.
Any suggestions?I apologize. I should've told you to delete the folder with the same name as your catalog. So you want to delete the folder named Lightroom 5 Catalog Previews.lrdata.

When I attempt to open lightroom I recive this message: [ Lightroom encountered an error whenreading from itspreviw cache and needs to quit.Lightroom will atempt to fix this problem next time it launches.] I did this a few times but no resoulve
It isn't a file, it's a folder. It will have the same name as your catalog, but will have the extension data. It will be in the same folder along with your catalog. If you need to use the search feature to search for *.lrdata.

Upgraded to 5.4 when opening lightroom get a message "encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and need to quite" tried this several time but get the same error message. Says Lightroom will attempt to fix the problem the next time it launches but that is not happening. How do it fix this?
Delete the preview cache using your operating system. It is a folder whose name ends with Previews.LRDATA. Do not delete the Lightroom catalog, which ends with .LRCAT

See if the issue in the thread above helps you to solve your problem. -
Every time I open lightroom I get a pop up message saying "Lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit" and it closes. Ive already tried reinstalling, nothing seems to work. Help please!
Open the folder containing your catalog. In that folder you will find another folder with the extension .lrdata, and you need to delete that folder. After you do that, Lightroom should start normally and will create a new preview cache.

I can't open Lightroom 5 in Windows 7 notes Catalog Error
I can't open Lightroom 5 in Windows 7. I keep getting a window titled "Confirm" and it notes an "Unexpected error opening catalog" and "The catalog could not be opened due to an unextected error".
3 choices come up:
Try Again Choose A Different Cataog Exit
I pick Try Again and it keeps cycling back
I pick choose a different Catalog and I get another window with my last Catalog and nothing else. I get 4 options:
Choose A Different Catalog Create A New Catalog Open Quit
The last catalog is the only one that is in this Window and is thus the only one selected. I try to Open it and it cycles again. I try to choose a different one and I can select older Catalogs but nothing happens. I try to create a new Catalog and I can do so but when I create one it's as though it was never created as I can't find it anywhere. Please help!I see that this was a while ago, and that you never received a reply....but did you figure out a solution? I'm experiencing the same thing.

I get an error message when I open Lightroom
I get an error message when opening Lightroom"Lightroom has encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit.
Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches" the problem does not correct when re opening lightroomAre you getting the exact same message as was stated in the first message in this thread? Have your operating system search for a file whose name ends with .LRCAT, but do not delete this file. Delete the Previews.LRDATA that is in the same folder.
Or are you getting a different message? -
I am unable to open Lightroom 5 catalogs due to "unexpected error"
I cannot currently open Lightroom. Each time I try it tells me that the catalog could not open due to an "unexpected error". I get this error for every catalog and every backup. I can't even seem to create a new catalog successfully. Any help would be great.
Did a site search for "unexpected error" not turn anything up?
What about the linked posts to the right of this page under "More alike This"? -
Error. Lightroom catalog can't open
Hello I keep getting the error: 'The Lightroom catalog named Lightroom 5 catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened' when opening Lightroom. There is no other application using it. there is only one file available, no back up as I have been uploading a 5.3TB catalogue over the past 4 days and didn't shut down. the RAW files sit on a separate hard drive to the laptop where the Lightroom catalogue is. I cannot now access that catalogue. I had a crash prior to this happening ... can anyone help out there?
I just wonder whether it was GB not TB!!!!

Good grief! That flew right by me. That is one huge catalog. I wonder if there is a "practical" limit to catalog size.Or I wonder if this is terminology confusion. Catalog size vs. library size. -

Error Message Upon Opening Lightroom 5.2
When I open Lightroom 5.2 , I get this error message immediately afterwards.
''A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. window will cloe the program and notify you if a solution is available.''
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program completely and running an update but nothing seems to be working.
I can't click on anything other then the error message window either.
Please help?Lightroom is presently at version 5.7.1 and there have been a multitude of fixes since version 5.2.
Try updating first to see if it fixes the issue. (its free) -

I'm having what sounds to be the same issue. May I ask what version you were running? I'm using 4.1... And more importantly, have you figured out a solution?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
