"Error opening movie" with QT 7 Pro

I've followed the sets in how to play a DVD, but I get the following error "Error opening movie, The movie could not be opened." Does QT7P not play DVDs? Please help.

QuickTime Player doesn't (without third party software) play the contents found on DVD's.
Use DVD Player or VLC (free) to view them.

  • Can't open movies with QT 7 Pro

I have QT 7 Pro and verified the key number in registration area. It clearly says I have it installed.
I was following the instructions to create iPod movies from my iMovies. The movies are all shaded and the Pro 7 features are also shaded. It appears that it does not recognize my Pro 7 status.
Is there a way to check or turn something else on to do this.
I purchased the "key" in Aug. 05.

As Ricktoronto and others have repeatedly pointed out in many threads here, the easiest way to convert videos for the iPod is..
If these remarks are directed at me, Julie, then I thank you for the recommendation and will certainly check out the latest version of iSquint (v1.2.3) in order to compare it with previous versions. However, while I might agree that this utility may be easier to use for the novice, I still prefer a more flexible free (not sure how you get "free-er" than free) application like MPEG Streamclip when it comes to adjusting brightness, contrast, saturation, and volume while simultaneously cropping, rescaling, and deinterlacing 20-70 year old media for play on my iPod using my own preferred custom settings (which are frequently modified based on content). As to speed, even QT 7 can perform realtime/faster than realtime conversions if you switch from the dedicated iPod preset to MPEG-4 presets and utilize the MPEG4 rather than the H.264 codec. Of course, everyone has their own personal favorites when it comes to actual software and workflow.

  • Error Opening Movie - The Movie Could Not Be Opened

Quicktime is giving me trouble and it's not giving me a reason why. It doesn't want to play movies dl'd from the internet. It tells me 'Error opening movie... The movie could not be opened.' The clip in question is a wmv. I tried opening the file in DIVx and iTunes but no dice; they didn't even recognize that I was trying to open a movie. I got the same problem with some films transferred from my old PC via a flash drive (not all, but some).
I am on a MacBook Pro that I just got this week; my first Mac. I am running OSX Tiger 10.4.8. 2.33 Ghz proc.
Please be gentle with the explanations; I know very little about computers.
Oh, also, in the DL'd files menu - you know, the one that pops up when you DL something - the file DLs with the icon looking like a blank piece of paper. Probably not important, but it sure doesn't look like something playable or executable.

"the file DLs with the icon looking like a blank piece of paper."
When the download window pops up type .wmv in the window before you click the download button or OK button.
If the above does not work then download the following FREE player:
    Flip4Mac
If the above player does not play the .wmv file then please post the URL and/or link of this file for us to test it out for you.

  • Garageband export to quicktime gives "error opening movie"

    hi
i've tried to export a movie without success. i imported video from imovie and added 3 audio tracks from itunes. i exported at full resolution several times to quicktime, but each time gives "error opening movie" could not open movie dialogue box. i exported it to idvd and succeeded. but i need quicktime. any help?
    thanks
    bill

I have tried trashing the plist file. The files look fine through the media manager when copied to the other profile. They look like they are suppose to. The small videos also look fine when played on that computer. Unfortunately our other mac pro computer doesn't have final cut so i can't open and play proress files and my laptop, due to the extreme resolution can't be played on my laptop with final cut studio installed. Tomorrow i'm going to install the proress decoder on the one mac pro to check the files and make sure the self contained is checked but i'm almost positive on that. Other than nuking the profile i don't know what else to do. This is really weird.

  • After Effects error: opening movie - you do not have permission to open this file (-54)

    Hi all,
I'm new to after effects. I have just started receiving the following error every time I try to render my movie:
"After Effects error: opening movie - you do not have permission to open this file (-54)".
Yesterday morning, I was able to render movies, however, after I did Apple's latest update I've started receiving the following error. What is happening is that I'm trying to render a movie. It gets to a certain point in the movie (about 0;00;16;09) and then this error pops up. This morning I've tried to repair the permissions with disk utility, but that doesn't seem to have helped.
I've searched Google and the Adobe support forums with no luck. Please help.
Thanks in advance for you help,
    William

Have been able to downgrade to QT 7.3 using Pacifist. Did NOT require re-install of OS.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread...347251&tstart=0
    Download the right version here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
    Panther: http://www.apple.com/support/downlo...forpanther.html
    Tiger: http://www.apple.com/support/downlo...31fortiger.html
    Leopard: http://www.apple.com/support/downlo...forleopard.html
    Install with Pacifist
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Now that I am back to QT7.3, iTunes7.6 is now asking me to update QT to 7.4 in order to be able to view the new movie rental feature of the iTunes store... which sorta sheds some light on the no permission error. Now that iTunes is renting, not just selling, movies, QT is now all fussy about ownership and permissions. Just a guess.

  • Error opening movie

i am trying to open a video file that i downloaded. the file is in MPEG Movie format but everytime i try to open it, the messege error opening movie. the movie could not be opened comes up. How do i this file to play ing QT

Usually, stuff opens on my husbands computer that doesn't on mine (non-mac -- ouch)That could be a problem. Normally I might recommend trying to open the file in an altenate media player and checking its own "get info" window it the clip loads. But it looks like this may be an option here. If all applications refuse to open the file, my next guess would be that you may simply have a corrupted file. You can, of course, simply try to download the file again and see if it works the second time. Or you could post the URL for the file and see if anyong else can access it.
it is titled explainer.qt -- is this a usuable file extension?I'm not familiar with such. The .qtl file extension would be a "QT Media Link" but would be a very small file sinace all it dos is open QT Player, pass the location of the main file on a server, and tell the player how to play the file. Again, this looks like a case where it would be best to examine the download source for additional information.

  • Error opening movie quicktime error

Just finished rendering a 2hr. movie that took a day to render, when i tried to open it up "error opening movie".

This was done on my G4 laptop
    Help
    Vic

It all has to do with the format of the file you are exporting (I assume you are exporting and not just rendering a sequence). If you are exporting from FCP, "Item settings" will create a new file with the same settings as your sequence or clip. If you are creating the file from another program such as after effects, any available formats there should be supported by QuickTime, but you might possible need to enable an additional codec for QT.
Otherwise, if the redering process is preventing your project file from reopening, I would manually throw away the render files and trash your prefs.

  • Generic 'error opening movie' message

I received a copy of a video collection from a friend and when opening the disc, there is a generic error message that says "error opening movie." there is no reference number or anything.
the disc also does not open on my regular DVD player connected to my TV.
could it be the disc or is there something else i can do?

It could be any number of things, and without more information it's impossible to say which. I'd suggest you ask your friend what format the movie is in. Then someone here could probably provide further advice.
the disc also does not open on my regular DVD player connected to my TV.
That would only work if the disk was created as a video DVD. DVD players will normally not play data disks (at least I haven't run across any that can).

  • "Error Compiling Movie" with Specific Plug-in

    Hi there,
I am receiving an "error compiling movie" message when trying to export video and have discovered that this is a result of using Digital Anarchy's Flicker Free Plug-in, which is vital to the footage. When the effect is disabled the clips export without problems. I believe I have tried using all the methods that I have found suggested in the links below but can't seem to find a way around it. Strangely the effect worked fine on my previous PC but there is now this exporting problem on the new one. Any thoughts are hugely appreciated.
"Error compiling movie" during render or export
"Error compiling movie" when rendering or exporting with Premiere Pro CS3, CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6
    Many thanks...

I'm having the same project. My .NET 4.0 project targets Newtonsoft.JSON 6.0.2 and has a reference to Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Storage 3.1.0.1. The error I'm getting is
    C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\12.0\bin\Microsoft.Common.CurrentVersion.targets(1696,5): warning MSB3275: The primary reference "Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Storage, Version=3.1.0.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, processorArchitecture=MSIL"
could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the assembly "Newtonsoft.Json, Version=4.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=30ad4fe6b2a6aeed" which was built against the ".NETFramework,Version=v4.5" framework. This is
a higher version than the currently targeted framework ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0".
error CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Storage' does not exist in the namespace 'Microsoft.WindowsAzure' (are you missing an assembly reference?)
I used the reflection tool dotPeek to investigte. Turns out Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Storage.Dll 3.1.0.1 is a .NET 4 project with a .NET 4.5 reference to Newtonsoft.JSON. This is a bug and should be retargeted to the .NET 4 version of JSON.

  • Error Playing Movie with htaccess

If I use .htaccess file to authenticate connections to my stock apache/10.4.11 web server, the iPhone will error out with "Error Playing Movie" when it tries to access the file. It does authenticate and show the contents of the directory. It will also view other document types, such as html files, without error. If I remove the .htaccess, it will play the movie.
I dont recall my previous iPod Touch exhibiting this behavior, however I no longer have it available for testing.
    Packet capture on the shows:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">

I can play that movie when I am connected via wi-fi -- it does not play for me via Edge (at least right where I am sitting :>).
This does happen a lot -- often a movie needs the bandwidth of wi-fi to play properly and if you are in a sketchy Edge territory you may have problems. Are you connected via wi-fi? Make sure it says that on your iPhone (you can see the wi-fi symbol right next to the AT&T on the top left of the iPhone display -- looks like little waves). If the video still doesn't play when you are connected via wi-fi let me know and we'll see what else we can try.

  • Can't open movie with Perian

Hi, I recently performed an erase and install of my Mac. I have a bunch of MKV movies that I like to play through Quicktime with Perian. I now notice that when I click "open with" Quicktime is not showing up as an option. When I view applications to open my movie with, Quicktime is greyed out. I have reinstalled Perian. For some reason Perian won't show up as an application to play my movies. Am I doing something wrong? Please help

I now notice that when I click "open with" Quicktime is not showing up as an option.
Launch the QuickTime Player and open the movies from inside it.
For some reason Perian won't show up as an application to play my movies.
Perian isn't an application. It's a preference pane and QuickTime component.

  • Error opening container with DB_READ_UNCOMMITTED

I am running into an exception condition when I try re-creating the Isolation sample found at [http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/xml/gsg_xml_txn/cxx/isolation.html#dirtyreads] . Lucas,
This appears to be a bug. That flag is not legal for one of the internal databases in the system and is not properly being cleared on open. That said, there are few cases where you'd really want to use that flag in BDB XML. What is your intent? Allowing readers to see not-yet-committed data is dangerous. Using MVCC is a better route for concurrent applications.

  • 1409 Error opening .mov file

I just upgraded to Quicktime Pro so that I could convert some .mov files I created with iMovie into .mp4 format.
Every time I try to open any of the .mov files created by iMovie I get a 1409 error.
The files are all located on my local system, not on a separate drive.
    I'd really appreciate some help.

Hey. I had the same problem with JDeveloper 11g 11.1.2.1.0 (R2) in Windows 7, and I solved it by uninstalling the following automatic updates of windows, it is not a problem of a project or specific application in JDeveloper, because it occurs at trying to run the integrated WebServer.
    These are the uninstalled updates:
    KB2647518
    KB2665364
    KB2641653
    KB2639308
    KB2621440

  • Errors Opening and Installing Adobe Acrobat Pro

Originally mine was a single problem with the following error after attempting to open Adobe Acrobat Pro 7.0, "An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
Now after reading the Adobe Community Forum article which recommended a complete uninstall of my Adobe Acrobat Pro 7 using this tool 'acrobat_ittools_cleaner_p1_040612' I have an additional problem with the following error,
    "Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.02\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll
Verify that you have access to tha directory."
Whereas previously I was able to reinstall the program successfully after an 'uninstall', now I encounter this error and cannot remedy it.
Please note that I have performed all of the solutions offered in this url: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-1310-error-writing-file.html#main_Vista to no avail. The problem persists.
Therefore, my hope is that after having used the tool 'acrobat_ittools_cleaner_p1_040612' and then successfully reinstalling Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, I will find that the original problem has also been fixed.
Again, the original problem was this error:
"An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
And the additional problem which came about after having used the tool is this:
    "Error 1310.Error writing to file: C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 7.02\ActiveX\AcroPDF.dll
Verify that you have access to tha directory."
Has anyone ever encountered either or both of these issues? If so, please share your experience and what you did to fix the problem(s).
    Thank you,
    -Dan Sacapano
