This means that your listener is not configured properly. For these kind of questions you'd better go to the database forum General Database Discussions

  • Error ORA-12560 prompts when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager

    Hi all,
    I am a newbie to Oracle.
    Just installed the Oracle 9i Database Enterprise Edition (9.0.1) into Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Problem is encountered when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager Standalone mode using either system/oracle or scott/tiger as credentials. Error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" prompts.
    I tried to check with some configuration and see whether the services are started. Services of "OracleOraHome90TNSListener" and "OracleServiceORCL" have been started and the database exists in the dedicated directory. Environment variables of "ORACLE_HOME" and "ORACLE_SID" have been added manually as the SID is set to orcl, which I just follow what the instruction manual has stated. Moreover, I can't get access using command prompt typing "svrmgrl"; error returned stating " 'svrmgrl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
    Another information is that there is no domain set in my server. Just a server with a name being assigned in a workgroup.
    Hence, would you mind please advice me what to do in order to get access into the Enterprise Manager? It's quite an urgent task.
    A million thx in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Karen

    Hi Jigneshrp,
    Thanks for your reply.
    It is checked that the listener is running and TNS name service exists. Following your advice, I did create a new listener and another name service and use them, but the same error turns out when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager again.
    Additional information to take note for is that while reconfiguring the existing listener or creating a new listener, a mesage prompts stating "The information provided for this listener is currently in use by other software on this computer. You can proceed with the configuration as it is, but it will not be possible to start this listener until the conflict is resolved. Would you like to continue with the continue with the configuration anyway? Yes/No".
    As for the reconfiguration or the new creation of TNS names service, when I am trying to test for the connection, the results in the details pane states that "Connecting... ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. The test did not succeed...."
    Would you mind pls advice me on these?
    Furthermore, there exist 2 questions I am wondering is that it is stated in the instruction manual that prior to the installation, a static IP should be specified for it instead of the DHCP one; hence, I wanna ask after the complete insallation, is it that the server should be running in the network, i.e. allow it to get connected with the outside network?
    2nd question is that can Oracle 9i Database Server Standard Edition (9.0.1) be installed under a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and just a Window XP Professional?
    Thanks for your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Karen

  • ERROR:ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

    I am using Win XP Pro. in my PC. I just installed Oracle 9i. When I put in my
    user-name and password to run SQL+ 9.0.1 it gives me the following error
    message : ERROR:ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error.
    I am new to Oracle. Please give me the steps how to fix this error to be
    able to run SQL+.
    Many thanks

    When starting server manager the following error is generated:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error occurred
    Cause:
    Oracle classify this as a 'generic protocol adapter error'. In my experience it indicates that Oracle client does not know what instance to connect to or what TNS alias to use.
    Possible Remedies:
    * If running on the server (or workstation) that is running the database (i.e. if the database is local to the machine) then try explicitly setting 'ORACLE_SID'. e.g.
    set ORACLE_SID=<sid>
    and then try again. If this works then consider whether to make the change permanent by specifying it as a system variable.
    FOR RUN THIS SID PLEASE REFER IT
    Go to command prompt
    C:\Document and settings\ORANGE> cd\
    C:\> set oracle_sid=<DB name>
    e.g C:\> set oracle_sid=<rajesh> {press enter}
    C:\> sqlplus /nolog {press enter}
    sql:\>connect sys/sys as sysdba {press enter} it cant ask for password directly connected
    or
    sql:\>connect sys as sysdba {press enter}
    password : sys {press enter}
    sql:\> connected
    or
    sql:\> connect scott {press enter}
    Enter password :tiger {press enter}
    sql:\> connected
    or
    sql:\> connect system {press enter}
    Enter password :manager {press enter}
    sql:\> connected

    You're attempting to go across SQL*Net. I'm a unix guy so I can't help very much except to point this out.
    On Unix I'd either undefine the TWO_TASK environmental variable. Probably a reg entry on 2k.
    Or configure Sql*Net.

  • Protocol adapter error ora-12560

    I have windoow 98 se ops.I have installed 8.1.7 client(as administrator option).Installation worked fine, but it didn't give me option to create default database.When i try to connect from SQL/plus,I get protocol adapter error ora-12560.Please help.
    jatin

    Yes, the XP firewall is running. During the Oracle instalation it poped up twice, but I selected 'Unblock'. I can't turn it off because it is running using the domain settings, but I can add exceptions (programs or ports). Port 1521, tnsping or sqlplus are not blocked and there is an option 'Display a notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program' witch is checked.

  • Why i receive errors: "The procedure entry point longjmp could not be found in the dynamic link lib. orauts.dll" and "Error ORA-12560"

    Hello,
    "C:\app\xps\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1"  where is my installation of database oracle enterprise 11g; I use Windows 7 Pro.
    I have in System PATH : C:\app\xps\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\bin
    I have in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ORACLE > SYSMAN > OracleDBConsoleorcl : "ORACLE_HOME" value "C:\app\xps\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1"
    When i execute "sqlplus / as sysdba" command, i receive error: "The procedure entry point longjmp could not be found in the dynamic link lib. orauts.dll" and "Error ORA-12560"
    If i execute
    set ORACLE_HOME=C:\app\xps\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1
    C:\>set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
    sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
    I don't receive Error.
    Why?

    You don't mention which specific version of the operating system that you are using - Windows XP, Vista, or 7 and whether you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit version.
    FWIW, kernell32.dll is a Windows system-level module, so it's possible that you have some corruption in your Windows installation which is preventing FM from launching.
    Also, 2Gb of RAM is a bit lean for FM.

  • Error ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error - on client

    dear frnds,
    I am try to install oracle 11g to my client iam getting error
    ORA-12560:TNS:protocol adapter error
    pls help me out
    thanx in advance

    Most likely reason for TNS Protocol adapter error is....you must have older client FIRST in your path.
    You 11g binaries are not kicking in, cuz...you must have 10g or similar/older binaries first in your PATH ( in windows )
    In windoz...in cmd window...
    set ORACLE_SID=xxxx
    set ORACLE_HOME= to your 11g home
    cd %ORACLE_HOME%\bin OR set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
    Then your sqlplus etc..
    This time you should not be getting the protocol error.
    Let us know whether this solved your problem

    Hello Hemant,
    you can't connect via the listener unless the database is up.You mean if we are going to connect @, db must be mount/open? We can'nt connect with @ in nomount state?
    But i think we can connect in nomount using @, if we are having an SID name in SID_LIST of listener.ora?
    Please correct me, if i am wrong.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Error Ora-12560: TNS: error del adaptador del Protocolo

    When I'm connect to oracle data base I have this problem it's the error.
    What can I do whith my problem.
    Please helpme.

    It's basically saying that you cannot connect because the SQL*Net process can't find the database.
    Check:
    1) your tnsname.ora file is correct
    2) your ORACLE_HOME is correct (if you are getting the error on the server console)
    3) Check the alert log - that can often contain some more information.
    4) The listener is up and running.
