Error ora-24338 happened when change data source on crystal report

Hi Guys:
I made a report on my test envariment (this report involve stored procedure and it return a ref cursor from oracle database to the report). after i test it, i decided to move this report to the production database. However when i updated the database location, it shows me the following error:
database connector error: 'ORA-24338': statement handle not executed [database wender code: 24338]
then it shows:
some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source. please spacify the table required for any unmodified tables.
then it shows:
database connection error
all the tables and code in test database and production database are same.
anyone can help me?

after you went to database
set datasource location
updated it.
did a mapping box come up
did you then verify the database to pull in the new records or tables?
i would run the query on the server to see if it returns values.
you may also need to set your overqualified table name
database
set datasource
locate the table or sp in the top box
the + next to the sp or table
click
open properities +
overqualified table name F2
enter the table or sp in there
then verify your database and try to run against the prod server

Writing and including our own customer data source to Crystal Report Design

Hi,
I need to create a Crystal Report based on a locally stored XML and schema. I can do this but the issue Iu2019m facing is that some tags used in the schema and the format is not supported by Crystal. So my plan is to write a database driver which will take our format and then convert it to the format Crystal supports and vise versa. To do this before writing the driver I need to know if itu2019s possible to include my custom database driver source in to the list that is shown in the Crystal Report Designer when selecting a data source to create a report. Is there such an API available so that I can plugin my data source to Crystal Report Designer? Is this at least possible to do or is there another way?

Hi Chanaka,
Not directly. If you base your driver on OLD DB or ODBC then it will show up in those lists.
If you are planning on selling a lot of packages then you may want to contact our OEM Sales team and sign up. You'll have more resources to do customized features like this. Not sure if we can but the option is there.

Unable to change data source of any report

Hello there,
I am using the Crystal Reports Eclipse plugin. I added a datasource to Eclipse 3.3 which connects to a Oracle database using JDBC.
Now I want to change the data source of a report. I get a popup window which displays the old data source with all tables and columns on the left side. On the right side of the window I see the name of the new data source at the top, but a list of "remove" options below it with a red cross in front (see screenshot).
It does not matter if I want to change an existing report or a new report.
I can create a new report with a datasource, but even when I want to change to the same datasource as already assigned to the report, I get the problem described above.
I already followed some tips found in this forum, e.g. expanding all used tables in the data source explorer etc., but this did not help.
I know that there was also a possibility to remove the "data source" information completely from the query (as mentioned at http://technicalsupport.businessobjects.com/KanisaSupportSite/search.do;jsessionid=2F140BDBA03E8E97EEF1E15F84964F12?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=c2017570&sliceId=&dialogID=13402443&stateId=1%200%2013406567), but I cannot find this option in Crystal reports for Eclipse. I see a field "qualified name" in the properties of each table of my report, but this field is read-only...

Doesn't anyone have an answer to this problem? I would just like to change the datasource of a report. But I am not able to do so, because the only option I have in the dialog is to remove all tables.

Web service as a data source in Crystal Reports 2008

I've tried to setup a new report using a web service as a data source.
Untill now, I have not been successful. I always get the same error: unable to log on to data source.
Is there any sample that I can try so that I understand what I'm doing wrong?
Or any documentation on the subject?

Having the same issues here also.
I can see the wsdl file being accessed successfully in the web access log, but Xcelsius v5.3 return "unable to load URL"
Only thing I can guess is that the schema is "untyped"
So, nobody in SAP has a solution?

Update data source in Crystal report

hi there
i have some CR in PROD, now they are needed to do a test in DEV first, when i refresh the report, it will prompt to ask me login, so i choose to login to DEV system, but i found some reports are not updated to the DEV, some do, i also found those reports failed to update to the DEV because they have sub reports
is there way to update data source for those reports with sub-reports when i login to DEV?

Click on Database, Set Location and choose your Database and server. Highlight the connections and click on the OK or Update button. Do this for each table also and for each subreport.

Hierarchical Data Source in Crystal Reports Options

We are trying to use Crystal Reports in VS2005 and set the data source
to a list of our objects.
      Dim list As New BindingList(Of Payslip)
      Dim Report2 As New CrystalReport2()
      Report2.SetDataSource(list)
This works fine when we are just considering the Payslip class in
isolation. However we have a property on Payslip which contains a list
of another class Element.
   Public Property Elements() As BindingList(Of Element)
      Get
         Return _Elems
      End Get
      Set(ByVal Value As BindingList(Of Element))
         _Elems = Value
      End Set
   End Property
We would like to be able to display the Elements in the report, in a
sub report ideally. However we cannot find a way of doing this. We can
tell Crystal Reports how to link an Element to a PaysSlip, but not how
to get to the Elements in the first place (i.e. by going through the
property called Elements).
How can we achieve this?

The fundamental data model of Crystal Reports is relational and not object hierarchial.
Are you able to transform the object hierarchy to a relational model?

2.5 GB CSV file as data source for Crystal report

Hi Experts,
I was asked to create a crystal report using crystal report as datasource(CSV file that is pretty huge (2.4Gb)). Could you help with me any doc that expalins the steps mainly with data connectivity.
Objective is to create Crystal Report using that csv file as data source, save the report as .rpt with the data and send the results to customer to be read with Crystal Reports Viewer or save the results to PDF.
Please help and suggest me steps as I am new to crystal reports and CSV as source.

The issue of having some records with comma and some with a semi colon will need to be resolved before you can do an import. Assuming that there are no semi colons in any of the text values of the report, you could do a "Find & Replace" to convert the semi colons to commas.
If find & replace isn't an option, you'll need to get the files separately.
I've never used the Import Export Wizzard myself. I've always used the BULK INSERT command
It would look something like this...
BULK INSERT SQLServerTableName
FROM 'c:\My_CSV_File.csv'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ',')
This of course implies that your table has the same columns, in the same order as the csv files and that each column is the correct data type to accept the incoming data.

Change data source on exisiting report - how?

Hello! I have an existing report that I want to use with a different company, so I need to change the datasource but have absolutely NO IDEA how. I'm searching and searching for answers here and on the internet. I have no IT support and no programming experience. I am the accountant.
I found something where you expand the properties in the datasource window and just edit, but I don't know how to find the name of the database I want to use.
Please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you.

you said report... which report ?
If its crystal report follow below steps:
1) open the crystal report goto-> database - >setdatasourse location
2) click on --> Create a Newconnection under Replace with window
3) select your dataconnection from the list.
4) then update the tables or procedures.
5) Save the report in repository

How to create a report using XML data source from Crystal Report Designer

Hi,
Iu2019m having Crystal Report Designer XI R2 SP4. Iu2019m trying to create a report using XML data source stored on disk. This is a customer order report and the xml is structured in such a way that it has an order details header part (master) and then it has several order lines (detail). One order line can have several order line characteristics (detail-detail). So what I need to know is now I can design this layout from the designer. If this was done using views I can do it with sub-reports but using xml data this seems to be different. Can you help me to design this layout? I have included the xml and xsd as well.

Thank you for the response and ideas you have given me so far. I can get the fetch the data from the data source without any problem. That is I do the following,
1.     New Report
2.     From Create New Connection-> XML
3.     Provide the u201CLocal XML Fileu201D and have u201CSpecify Schema Fileu201D checked -> Next
4.     Provide the u201CLocal Schema Fileu201D -> Finish
Then I can see the following under XML

Then I come to the Linking section. Here I canu2019t link anything. There is a common field called u201CInternal_IDu201D but I canu2019t link using it. So I get a message when I click Next. From here I add all the fields.
For this point onwards only I need help. How do I group, add fields and design the layout so I can get an report output as follows.

How can I achieve this kind of a layout using the give xml and xsd? Should I use grouping if so how should I do the grouping?

Universe as data source for Crystal Reports

Are there any issues in using a Universe as the data source for a crystal reports? We are using Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 and Crystal Reports XI R2.

Hi,
We can have a parameter from a Universe, following are the steps which will create the report which is based a Universe with a parameter.
-connect to the universe and you will a Query Panel.
-drag some objects in the Result Objects field. Ex. Country, Revenue.
-then drag an object in the Query Filter. Ex. Country.
-then a new window will appear as Filter Editor.
-Select the prompt option and also select the check box as u201CSelect only from listu201D.
-Click on Ok.
When you refresh the report then there will be a parameter prompting for the Country field. Also you will see a parameter created automatically in the parameter list.
However if you try to create a new parameter (without modifying anything from the query panel) by with the following workflow then there is no option to select the field for the parameter.
-Right click on Parameter fieldsu2014New parameter.
-When you click on the drop down list in the u201CValue Fieldu201D list there are no available fields/objects.
Hence we can create a parameter in CR which is connected to the Universe with the steps mentioned above.

Best Data source for Crystal Reports

Hi Experts,
We have decided to use Crystal Reports 2008, for our project & advised to use BO Universe(based on Dimensional model) as data source against using the Dimensional tables directly(in Oracle).
Since the Universes are based on Dimensional model, typically I have to link two or three Universes for each report. I am concerned about the query performance time involved for the Universe approach vs. using the Dimensional tables directly.
I understand Universe as Meta-Data layer that hides all the database complexity from the end-user, and is a favorable option for Adhoc reports created by end users.
But for developers who are going to create 400 odd reports, I don't see any advantage that Universe brings, compared to linking the tables at Crystal Designer.
And we do not want to write customized Stored Procedures for every report, so our options are Universe/ Oracle tables.
Appreciate any help from you on helping my process.

IMHO, the Universe is fantastic for sophisticated end users (who have a general knowledge of logic or a logical mind) to build ad hoc reports. (Less sophisticated users should not be given the ability to design reports.) It should not be used for production reports that will run frequently, as performance can deteriorate quickly. (This is particularly true if you design the universe with the intent to build multiple reports off of one logical view. You tend to do a lot of extra work to gather data that is not needed for the task at hand. Our universe was designed this way - before I got here... I tend not to use it on new reports...)
There is no question in my mind that direct SQL will be the most performant way to develop the reports. In fact, I'd even suggest using SQL Commands as the basis for the reports so the database does all of the heavy lifting of table linking, record selection, sorting, and summarizing. That's what databases are built to do! (I know Crystal is supposed to push what it can to the database, but its definition of what the database can do is very generalized, so a lot ends up on the Crystal server.) This is particularly true if the Crystal server is not the same box as the database server; you don't want to pump huge volumes of data over the network! The downside to this is that some logic tends to get duplicated. This can be minimized by creating additional data (fields, tables, or aggregate tables) in the database, which are populated by one program (where the logic resides) and used by all of the reports. (For example, "definitions" based on data values should be table driven.)

Error ORA-01017 happened when dbms_scheduler run a job.

I got a problem when I use dbms_scheduler to run a job. I got Error code 1017 when the job is run by scheduler. Please find my steps below:

Crystal Report runtime error while changing Data Source Location

Dear All
We are using "Crystal reports for SAP Business one".The Crystal reports version is 12.1.
We built a report in another database with another server.
As we are importing the report in another database of another server,
I am not able to change the Data Source location.
When I am trying to change it,it gives Runtime error and closed automatically.
How can i resolve and change the data source location?

is your CR version the same from which you design the report and to the another server? also did you import your report directly to SBO without changing the data source first? in the case you should update first your Data Source in Crystal Report IDE before importing it to SBO.

Error -ORA-01483: invalid length for DATE or NUMBER bind variable

In discoverer plus, attempt to save a discoverer workbook into the database fails with the error:
ORA-01483 invalid length for DATE or NUMBER bind variable
The same workbook can be safely saved in "My Computer".
Any idea why and what is the solution.

Why: not quite sure, probably the code is validating the workbook when it saves it to the db and you've got an error in the sql. What happens when you run the workbook that you saved to the file system? Does it show the same error when run?
Solution: Can you post the sql in the workbook? In the meantime try the following: Replace any to_char statements around dates with to_date statements instead. For example:
Replace:
where to_char(mydate, 'dd-mon-yyyy') = '05-apr-2009'
With:
where mydate = to_date('05-APR-2009','DD-MON-YYYY')

Did you add a System DSN or a User DSN? If you added a User DSN from your own login, the asp.net application will not be able to use it unless its application Pool in IIS is configured to run under the same credentials that you used for creating
the DSN. It's better if you add a System DSN.
Also, be careful to ensure that you are using a 64 bit DSN, unless you configure the application to run in 32 bits. If the 64 bit application attempts to use the 32 bit driver you get the same error message "Data source name not found and no default
