"Error: Out of Memory" message

Hello,
FCP 5.1.4 is giving me the "out of memory" error message.
I didn't know the program uses a maximum of 2.5 GB RAM which I read on another post. I just installed 11 GB of RAM before I read that to try and solve the problem. Oh well.
After reading another post, I went into "System Settings," then to "Memory & Cache." The application is at 100%, but I upped the stills cache to 100% as well. I also upped the thumbnail cache of both Disk and RAM to 999999 each (the highest number I could fit in).
Hopefully those changes will work. Meanwhile, has anyone figured out why FCP gives this error message? My project is large because its a documentary, but it's not THAT big. The FCP file itself is 378 MB. I have 45 hours of footage. I don't have a lot of "stills" (which seems to be the cause of some folks' problems). I've just been organizing my footage using many sequences, some nested sequences, markers and cuts.
I just find it impossible to believe I've maxed out this program with my little no budget movie. I mean, people edit features on this thing, right?
Please help if you can.
Any solid advice is helpful.
thank you,
Mario

*I don't have a lot of "stills" (which seems to be the cause of some folks' problems).*
The number of still is not what causes the memory error you may have read about. The issue is whether those stills are CMYK or Greyscale. If they are, you will get memory errors. Use Photoshop or similar to change them to RGB.

PS
From the manual...
Note: The thumbnail RAM cache uses part of the RAM available to other parts of
Final Cut Pro, so it shouldn’t be made too large.

Thanks - I did go through and change all the profiles to Apple RGB, there are several to choose - but I'm still having problems - I think it has to do with corrupt  images - Im backing up and starting over - I've worked with images large and small for years and never had this problem - thanks

My final cut studio keeps giving me this error out of memory message when ever i try to render a piece of footage and its closing unexpected. Does anybody know the reason?

I had this problem about 2 months ago and, as others have suggested in this thread, eventually traed it backed to some stills I had scanned and brought into the project.  Accidentally I had changed the scanner settings, with the result that a couple of skills were well beyond 1980 x 1020 pixels.  I resampled the stills and everything was fine again.  Hope this might help.

  • Error Out of memory message since update

In the middle of a project with five camera multicam edit and since an update Im getting intolerable out of memory messages. have 32gb of memory. How can I roll back the system to remove whatever the updates were? There were 4, and I'm not sure what they were, but didn't have this issue before. I've rebooted and still getting the same message. Driving me nuts as I'm editing for TV and it's time sensitive.

I know, I clicked on the update and realise that about 0.1 of a second later..... "mmm, shouldn't have done that". I now think it's not the updates as such. The problem appears to be when I try to adjust the time of one clip by 10 frames or so to match the other clips (Ctrl+shift to move a clip in time). When I do that it seems to cause the error. I've been getting that when I try and change the clip positions in the multicam view when there are 5 or 6 clips, so I've stopped doing it and just accept the positions in the viewer as they import. Tweaking individual clips seems to cause the same general error message. For the time being I'm re-editing it after changing the in point of the clip and starting again with a fresh set of clips as a new multicam edit. Not ideal but gets around the issue for now.
    Thanks

  • Error out of memory message when trying to view a clip

Hi, when I'm trying to view a clip in the viewer for any of my projects, it comes up with an error message saying "out of memory" Now, it's like this whenever I'm trying to view any clips from any of my projects after I double click on the clip or sequence. Then, after the error message comes up and I hit ok the viewer goes down. I just recently bought an external hard drive, and put my final cut in my new HD. I have more than enough space. And this was the main reason I decided to by a new HD, because my actual system on my mac does not have enough space. Please help as this issue is really bothering me. Thanks.

The applications themselves (fcp, motion, soundtrack pro, dvdsp color) want to reside on your system drive. You can however putt all the auxilliary stuff on the other drive: livetype templates, soundtrack pro stuff)

  • "Error: Out of Memory" when trying to Render

    Hello all,
I'm editing a project in FCP 5 that is using, in part, .mpeg-4 videos downloaded from the internet. After several weeks on the project with things going fine, the downloaded videos can no longer render. I can see them in the source window, but when laid into the sequence these downloaded videos produce an "Error: Out of Memory" message. Other videos of this type that are already rendered and playing in the existing sequence cannot be re-rendered or adjusted without producing the same Error message.
    A few things to remember...
    1. Other types of rendering, such as filters and fit to fill effects, render just fine.
    2. There is over 30 GBs on the external drive this project is running on.
    3. I've tried resetting scratch disks, transferring the project to another drive, and opening it on a new, super-fast computer, and nothing is different.
Please help, I'm really stuck in the mud here and am dying to get past this issue,
    Peace,
    Sam

Did either of you find an answer? I'm running into the S A M E issues. I feel strongly that it has to do with the quicktime update, as editing mp4's worked FINE in January.
There is a lengthy protocol for trying to circumvent this issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1413028&tstart=0
Didn't work for me, but I think it worked for the query. And VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) ended up being the only program I can even VIEW mp4 in now properly.
So if you can use a viewer, that works.

  • Out of Memory message -- even with a blank sequence!

Not sure what happened, but all of a sudden I can't get any timelines to open. Even if I just start up the program without any open sequences, when I click on the empty "Sequence 1" I get the dreaded Error: Out of Memory message. I've tried the usual fixes, but nothing seems to help. I recently ran Cache Out (to delete various caches) and Monolingual (to get rid of non-English language support files), I wonder if something essential got trashed?

Got 10GB or so on both my external hard drive (which I'm not even using now), as well as the internal one. My media is on the external, but to simplify I disengaged it and am just trying to load ANYTHING. Just working on my internal drive, which I have permission to use, of course. I've got 1.25GB of RAM, no issue there. Activity Monitor was a good idea, in fact it occurred to me a few minutes ago and I checked that, didn't see any obvious problems.
I trashed the preferences numerous times, deleted some old files, was going to dump the render files -- but I realized it's irrelevant, since it won't even open a blank file. Here's further evidence of the weirdness -- when the blank project opens up, it gives me the Browser window, and I can get the Viewer to open (but never the Timeline). However, if I try to open up anything in the Viewer, it immediately disappears! I'm losing my mind...

  • Error: out of memory during render

    Hi,
I am attempting to write a non-self contained quicktime movie from a sequence in FCP 6.03. The sequence was originally edited in AIC 720p, then onlined to 8 bit uncompressed via the .m2v files.
When rendering I receive an "error: out of memory" message.
I am wondering what might have caused this, as I have not experienced it before. I have done a search within mac forums, but none of the threads I found seemed to address my specific issue.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks,
    -Tom

Onlined to 8 bit uncompressed SD? or HD?
You likely have a corrupted media file involved. It's usually the same percentage in from the head of the sequence, as the failure is reported... i.e, the failure is reported after 50% complete? then look half way into your sequence, and re create or re capture that area of the sequence.

  • General Error - Out of memory when viewing clips

Hi All. I have a problem.
Right, I have 720p clips, about 5-10 minutes long each, 100-150mb in size. I roughly have about 180 of these clips. Now some of the clips can be viewed, others (most) cannot. Everytime I click to view them, it brings up the error out of memory message. All clips and the project are being done on an external HD (1TB)
I've attempted to start a new project on the Mac HD, same issue (with the clips still on the external HD) and I've also tried only putting one clip in with the same error message.
How can I resolve this issue?
    Cheers
    Tony

Don't convert to DivX, that's not an editing codec either.

  • Computer error - 'Out of Memory'

    Hi all,
Company I edit for bought a new tower. Here are the specs
Processor Two 2.66GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    RAM 12GB
Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
Yesterday was my first day on it, and all went fine until I started bringing render-heavy motion files into Final Cut. It would start rendering them, and then stop and say 'error -- out of memory'.
The internal drive has 800G of free space, but Just to be safe, I switched the scratch disc to an external with 400G of free space. Got the same error and message.
I also tried trashing preferences, repairing disc permissions and restarting. No luck.
I switched to my laptop (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/4G Ram) and the sequence rendered just fine (if a little slow).
Any idea what's wrong? We bought the machine specifically for rendering and compressing, so this is pretty frustrating...

I've only run into this problem in a ProRes project, with clips transcoded from a Canon 7D. Other projects, using DVCPRO HD 1080, with lots of effects, haven't done this. What seems to help is 1. If you're using still files, make sure they're RGB and 72ppi; when I can I use jpgs rather than tiffs, and I think it helps to make them no larger than you need; 2. Close the sequence tabs you're not using, especially if they're psd still files; 3. Selectively render only the tracks at the top; 4. Save after every render.
If anyone has other ideas, please let us know. This really can be a pain.

    > We are getting an error (about the error - system say out of memory) and when we referred to the messages in the SAP BPC forum, few have provided solution asking to shrink the log file size.
    > They have also provided the SQL synatx to reduce the log file size.
    > " dbcc shrinkfile (Appset_Log, 1) " -
This is for Microsoft SQL Server, not for Oracle.
If you get "out of memory" it's not a database logfile problem but a memory problem.

    When is this happening?

  • Render - Error: Out of Memory

I have been getting the following error message while trying to render - Error: Out of Memory.
The system I am working on has 10 gigs of RAM and is connected to a SAN with a whole lots of storage. The error message doesn't appear until almost the end of a render, which is of itself very annoying. Anyone know why this is happening? If I restart the application I am OK for a while then it happens again.

If you really want me to hold your hand I will. Here's some links that came up when I typed "Out of Memory"

  • "AE Effects Error: out of memory rendering '55mmv7_MonoTint.plugin"

I am trying to export (using Quicktime Movie) a nested sequence when about 35% though the export it stops and gives me this error message:
"AE Effects Error: out of memory rendering '55mmv7_MonoTint.plugin"
The editor (i am only assistant) is using a filter package from Digital Film Tools, and they aren't in business any more. could it be that FCP 6 doesn't support these plugins?
Some of the clips in the sequence aren't rendered. Do they need to be rendered before exporting to Quicktime?
Some of the clips have a "Faux Film" filter on them but that's not the error that pops up.
Not sure what else to say.
    Thanks for your help.

Turn off the effects that you suspect and try the render again. That would be a good place to start.

  • "Error: out of memory" compiling JSP´s

Our web application contains about 5000 JSP´s and 900 java files and every time I want to make the project I get the message "Error: out of memory" compiling the JSP´s despite already using the JVM option -Xmx850M to enlarge the heap size. It is not possible to use any higher value than 850M because this results in following error message launching JDeveloper.
    D:\jdevj2ee1013\jdev\bin>jdev.exe
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
The computer I use for development has 2GB of memory and JDeveloper is the only application running, therfor there must be enough memory available.
If I deactivate "Make Project before running" I´m able to launch the application and debug JSP´s, but every time a page is called it´s recompiled, even if it has not changed, which costs a lot of time.
Is it possible to disable the JSP translation in the development process and only translate and compile the JSP´s at request time in the embeded OC4J and make sure that this happens only once if the JSP has not changed?

I have solved the problem. I removed the transition, "Light Slice" from PulpFx. It was giving me trouble earlier. I don't know why, or if it's fixable and able to be used in the future, but I can render 100% after that effect is removed from the footage/sequence.
