Error saving file as PDF FM 11.0.2.384 Windows 7

"Can't launch Acrobat Distiller to create PDF file."
I cannot find Distiller on my workstation. I do not see it in the Control Panel. I also cannot find Distiller on the distribution media.
I suspect it is not installed.
Can anyone help?

Hmm. It should not be this hard. I worked in software development for two decades and made stuff work. But I am quite frustrated. My workstation build is standard. My FM is current. This is not like I am expecting some little used, obscure feature to work. Saving a PDF should be mainstream. It's like spell-checker not working. Huh?
As far as I can tell these are the primary software components involved:
1. Framemaker 11
2. Adobe PDF Creation Add-on X
3. Adobe Reader XI (11.0.04)
4. Windows 7.
Am I missing any others or are any of the above not in this equation?
I've now worked through the advice given above with no luck but I should not have to rely on luck. I am trying to make a living with this software.

Problem saving files to PDF in Illustrator CS4 [Mac]

Hi all,
I'm having a problem with saving files as PDF's in illustrator CS4 - something I've happily done for years until about a week ago.
It seems to be something to do with the "Save As" command. When I select Save As and then select PDF, the PDF saves as a copy of the current file rather than it saving as a file itself. It also doesn't rename itself properly. Saving a file in the .ai format seems unaffected.
The multiple page function also seems to be affected - I can create multiple pages no problem, but upon saving the PDF reads as a single page PDF in both Acrobat and Preview. Reopening the same file in Illustrator reveals that the extra pages are there, but not showing in the PDF.
Any thoughts? I've trashed preferences and repaired permissions, but no joy....
Any help greatly appreciated

Have you entered specific artboards in "use artboards"?

When saving certain files get the error "Error saving file..."

When saving certain files get the error "Error saving file..." Seems to have trouble saving the temp files. tried dumping my workspace and prefs. No change. Other files work fine.

Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder. For its locations see:

CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer

Could someone please tell me if I can convert a CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer. I have tried opening the word document and going to the 'open' options etc but this still won't open the CWK file.
Is there something else I can do to open the files or convert them to pdf?

It seems this is an old Apple Words document. A Google search revealed https://www.google.com/search?q=cwk+files&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:I E-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=ssl that Word will not do this natively. I was able to see a couple of converters, and it also provided info that LibreOffice, a free open source Office program can open them with exceptions.
How you decide to go about doing this is up to you.

It is best to save it to your desktop, for easier location
later. Right click the file, choose 'save as' and select 'desktop'
as your destination.

We've got a problem with saving our design/file at this moment.
The error describes: there are problems with the Adobe PDF-classification: an number is out of range...
We're saving the file as CS6-version with PDF-compatible option selected. For now we can't save any file.

You have to provide the exact PDF settings and system info and all that. Sounds more like you are using an unsuitable combination of settings and create an out-of-spec PDF-X file or something like that. Also check your artwork. This could also be a specific item on your artboard not translating properly to PDF data because it has an odd appearance setting or something like that...

I don't think PDF Pack is connected to this in any way. It won't be part of the process.

Photoshop CS3 error saving files - Could not save ... because the fileis already in use or was left

I have a problem with Adobe Photoshop CS3 that only started happening last night. Heres a description of the problem.
When I try and save a Photoshop file, I get the following error message:-
Could not save (filename). because the file is already in use or was left open
I have rebooted my computer, rebooted our server, un-installed & reinstalled Photoshop and also done a system restore, and I still have the problem. (The system restore actually caused huge problems I got the error message The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support, except I wasnt able to reinstall or uninstall the product. The computer just would not run the installer. I had to undo the system restore.)
I can do Save For Web with no trouble and I can save files to the same location with every other Adobe product installed in the Web bundle, just not Photoshop.
We have 2 machines here with an identical set up (hardware and software) and the problem is only on one machine.
Even though Photoshop says it cant save the file, its actually saving the file in the following format:-
~psX.tmp where X is a random variable, either characters or numbers.
I have to manually open My Documents and rename the file to filename.psd so I can access it again.
Short of reformatting my computer (which Im not keen on doing because it will mean several wasted work hours and I will have to pay our IT people to come in and hook me back up to our network), how can this problem be fixed?
I have also Googled the problem and the only help I found was a suggestion to search for a psicon.dll file and rename it. This file does not appear anywhere on my system, so I'm at a loss.
I have contacted support about this issue, but thought it was also worth while to ask here at the same time.

I'm having similar problems with not being able to save files after editing them (and giving them a new file-name, obviously) in Photoshop Elements 4.0. I get an error message saying (for instance): "Could not save as (whatever I'm trying to name the file) because the file is already in use or was left open". Then I see a .tmp file (that I can't open)
I did a search and found that the file was being saved twice, once within Photoshop (where I'm working with it) and also in..

I've been using PSE-4.0 for years, and this problem just started cropping up. The only (cumbersome) way around this problem has been to just make my edits (in PSE-4.0) and do a "save" under the original file name, then go into explorer and rename the file. So, in short, I cannot do what I've been doing for years, editing a picture and saving it (renamed) in the sane folder (or a different one).
I can "see" the .tmp files in PSE-4.0, but they won't open.. but they will in JASC.. odd..

Error converting files to PDF in Internet Explorer- Adobe Acrobat Pro 8

I've recently upgraded to Adobe Acrobat Pro 8, from AAP 7. With AAP 7 I was able to open my windows based program, right click and convert the page to PDF. Since I've upgraded I am unable to do this anymore. When I right click and click to convert to PDF nothing happens. I've reinstalled the program, but still receiving the same error. Is there a way to fix this?

If you open the file, what do your right click on? If you are talking about right-clicking the file icon in Explorer, that is not opening the file but using the functionality of Windows. Apparently the file associations did not get installed correctly or the print function does not work. You need to go back to step one and determine the functional aspects that fail. So, can you open the file in the application, select the print menu, and print successfully to the Adobe PDF printer? This is a key step that needs to work.

Issue saving files as PDF

I have Windows 7 on my computer. I had to recently restore Windows on my computer and since then I can save Word documents as PDFs. Please assist.

Yes I think I understand the problem and I believe it is expected behavior and I will explain.
You must convert the images to cmyk in photoshop first before placing them in Illustrator or convert them after but since they are linked the conversion has to take place in photoshop by using the link panel to edit the original.
Now it should work as expected but I did this without the using a black key line on the rectangle I used for my clipping so once you have the rectangles position if you still find you have this problem then go bak and redo the clipping mask without the black stroke.
This is my result in Acrobat with the images converted to cmyk so I am positive you stated with RGB and did not convert before placing.
As you can at 6400% magnification it is fine. This is the top edge of the two butted images when saved as pdf after converting the files to cmyk in Photoshop. PDX 1a supports CMYK.

Print query regarding saving file as PDF/X-3

I have a magazine ready for print for a client that uses a printer to print it. I am wondering whether or not the PDF I send them of the magazine (from InDesign CS5) will have any issues if I use the PDF/X-3:2003 Standard. Compatability is set to Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) and the document will have all necessary bleed marks etc. The reason I am using this standard is to stop the PDF creation process from not showing certain transparencies used with InDesign tools. It's a only a few pages that have this issue, where when I send them for proofing the effects from ID glow etc don't show up unless I use the PDF/X-3 standard which keeps them in. So I am just wondering if it is ok to send the whole document as this standard when it goes to print (will there be any other issues with it saved this way? If so I will probably have to save the pages in question seperately and them pull them on as PDF's to the ID file and then save normally. The print site is modern so I doubt they have old software but I don't know for sure.

In terms of a “state-of-the-art” PDF standard for prepress, Adobe recommends PDF/X-4 for overall workflow and output reliability. It supports full ICC color management as well as live transparency. All major RIPs (and software updates for same) from the last half dozen years as well as Adobe Acrobat fully support PDF/X-4.
That having been said, there must be a “meeting of the minds” between the content creator/provider and the print service provider. If the print service provider can't support the PDF/X standard you wish to provide, you have two real choices - conform with what they want (and hopefully not suffer from the consequences) or find another print service provider.

How can I increase resolution when saving file as PDF?

I am sending some illustrated files to a professional printing press that only accepts PDFs, however they say the resolution is too low and should be 300dpi. How can I increase resolution? Only option I could find was to try to create a new filter in Color Sync by duplicating PDFX3 filter and editing it to the desired resolution, however I couldn't get new filter to save my resolution inputs. Any help is appreciated!

You really need something like Acrobat which will install a "Save as Adobe PDF" under the PDF menu. You can select press quaility," "high quality print," etc., and get a true high res PDF.
If you'd like to just give it a shot, try downloading one of the OS X CS6 suites that include Adobe Acrobat Pro for a free 30-day trial. I've never used SketchBook Pro, but Acrobat may help you out.

Error saving or opening pdf in mail

I've been using Apple Mail successfully for the last 3 years. Since yesterday I have not been able to download or open any pdfs attachments. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue.

I don't know what your 'downloader' is as Mail and browsers handle the issue completely differently.
WRT to Mail you should check just how much space is being consumed by old attachments (including photos/ files/ stupid graphics like Emoticons etc.) that could be causing Mail to herniate.
Either manually remove excessively large attachments from emails (say greater than 5MB) or locate the Attachments folder in ~Library/Application Support - etc.
and delete anything and everything excessive or old. Same with Sent items, if you send more than you receive.
