Error sending multi-track project back to Final Cut Pro, can't open XML

I am an experienced Final Cut Pro user but just tried using Soundtrack Pro for the first time on a real project. I sent the audio from my Final Cut sequence to a Soundtrack Pro multi-track project, added a few effects and created some fade-ins and fade-outs, and then tried to Export back to Final Cut.
I selected "File > Export", named my file and selected "After Export > Send files to Final Cut Pro sequence."
Now in Final Cut an error appears that says "The document “Name.xml” could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the “Final Cut Pro XML File” format."
Am I crazy or is something wrong happening here? I can get the exported audio files to appear in my sequence if I select "File > Import > XML" in Final Cut, but after this whole process Final Cut seems to be functioning unreliably (after closing Final Cut and re-opening, I even once got a similar error that said "Final Cut cannot open files in the Final Cut Pro Project File format", which is obviously crazy).
Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Sending multitrack project back to Final Cut pro, how?

    Hi all,
I ve sent an entire sequence from FCP to Soundtrack pro for adding sound effects and that worked great. All video and existing music and voice over were sent to soundrack pro and i ve added my SFX on 4 seperate audio tracks.
Now i want to send the SFX tracks i ve created back into FCP since the project hasnt finished. How do i do this? ideally i want each SFX clip i ve added in SP to be placed on FCP timeline.
One way will be to export each track with SFX individually from soundtrack pro and manually import these into FCp but there are large gaps of silence between SFX clips and i these ll be counted as audio resulting in unecessary large audio files.
    Any ideas?
    many thanks

You could do it that way. You could also do an "export mix" from STP. This will result in an two track stereo aiff file that you can then bring into FCP to replace all the existing audio. I always use a duplicated timeline for this.

  • Sending Audio Files back to Final Cut pro, nothing.

    Simple issue:
I send from Final Cut Pro To Sound track pro some audio files along with the clip.
I edit it in Sound track Pro, and save (just like in the tutorial) then I quit.
I go back to Final Cut Pro and what do you know, the file that I sent HAS NOT BEEN EDITED!
    Some one help.

I tried the same thing earlier in the year, and when the sound came back into FCP, it was corrupted!
Since then, I don't know if this is a good option, but it seems to work fine:
Once I have finished my editing in FCP, I export the soundtrack into an AIFF. I edit the AIFF via STP, and when finished, import it back into FCP.
I'm not experienced enough to know if this method is bad, but it has worked well for me!

Hi, I accidentally deleted a project in trash. How do I get it back into final cut pro X. It is still sitting in trash.

If your working on an external hard drive, just drag/drop back in the Final Cut Projects folder, and re-open FCPX

Make sure your easy setup has the correct frame rate for your sequence.  Seems crazy but somehow or other fcp assigns a frame rate to audio files.   I've found this can sometimes be tricky to get right.  Here's what I've done to force the issue.  Make sure the easy setup frame rate reflects that of the target sequence in fcp.  Create a new project.  import the audio in the new project.  And then copy the clip from the new project to your main project.
    Good luck

  • Can/ how do I link two or more "projects" - not events or clips - "projects" together in final cut pro 10?

Can/ how do I link two or more "projects" - not events or clips - "projects" together in final cut pro 10?

    Thanks Tom -
I created two "sequences". They are currently listed individually in the "project library". Now I want to take sequence "B" and attatch it in it's entirety to the end of sequence "A" - forming one long sequence.
I have tried to drag sequence "B" and drop it into "A's" timeline. I have tried to creat a compound clip. I'm either missing something - or - you can create a compound "clip" or a compound "event" - but perhaps you cannot link to "projects" together.
Does this help descibe my problem?
    Thanks again.

  • How can you fix corrupt Project Files in Final Cut Pro X?

    Hello All,
I have reason to believe that one of my project files in Final Cut Pro X is corrupt.
How may I begin to resolve this issue?  Is there a third party software someone could recommend, like Digital Rebellion (if they have software for FCP X, I'm not sure) that may improve, if not hopefully solve this issue?
    Many thanks!!
    Molly

    Had a similar problem.
    Follow it here:
    http://www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/11076-freeze-during-export
among other steps taken I used Corrupt Clip Finder to isolate/remove the culprit and all was OK after that
no idea how/why the file ( which I''d been using over 5 previous versions) became corrupted

  • What is the proper way to back up Final Cut Pro x

What is the proper way to back up Final Cut Pro x?
Final Cut Pro X & Motion 5 are the only two programs I do not have a hard copy for.
Click and dragging the files from the applications folder to an external harddrive seems to simple to be correct.
Are their additional folders or actions that are required to back up these software?
I'm having problems and was instructed to back up all files ASAP before taking my iMac (mid 2010) to the Apple store for treatment.
    Please help!

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Most apps from the Mac App Store are simple drag & drop installation. DId FCPX or M5 just download to your Mac or was there an installer app involved? If they just donwloaded, then dragging them to backup media should be enough. If there was an installer, then you should backup the installer. But these apps aren't going to disappear from the Mac App Store in the short time that your Mac is in a repair shop. You can also download them again fromthe Purchased pane after you have signed into your account.

  • HT203477 Why does my computer quit unexpectedly when I click on "Show the Project Library" in Final Cut Pro X ?

    Hello,
When I click on "Show the Project Library" on Final Cut Pro X program, my computer unexpectedly quits.
I just purchased an iMac 27in screen, (16G Ram) and all the features suggested by the Apple representative to run Final Cut Pro X.
The program was working well for about a week. Afterward, I downloaded all my iMovie projects. I'm wondering if that has created this problem.
Any suggestions as to what the solution might be?    Thanks.
    Jack

Over the year I've used FCPX, it' s gone through "spells" where specific actions would crash it - much as you describe. Trashing preferences has nearly always fixed things. Several times, when it did not, I reinstalled the app.
However, I've never imported an  iMovie project so I can't give any first hand advice. It will be interesting to see whether FCPX opens if it doesn't see those projects. (per Tom Wolsky's advice.)

  • DVD back to Final Cut Pro

So basically we have made a DVD movie and would like to convert it back into Final Cut Pro for later editing at times. Is this possible and if so how is it done? Would you use a program like Popcorn, DVD Shrink etc. to rip the DVD and then import some type of file back into FCP? Thanks in advance.

  • Final Cut Pro won't open

    Hi All,
Please bear with me as I'm new to this forum.
Final Cut Pro won't open on my computer and as a message, a window appear and says:
"the waver form cache files folder does not have read/write access. Please select a new folder in the system setting dialogue or correct the problem on disk".
I don't have access to the dialogue box at anytime because when I turn on FCP and this message appears, when I click "OK", FCP turns off. I have tried to open it through the icone but the same message comes back again.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks a lot!

I never suggested repairing the boot disk.
I should have been more specific in my suggestions.
In my experience the best way to repair permissions via Disk Utility is to restart the computer in safe boot mode/repair permissions/restart.
It is my understanding that running Disk Utility without a safe boot is less than effective.
I do think this process is better than running DU from the OS disk but there are worst case scenarios where it must be done. The original posting probably doesn't apply to this situation.

  • Can I import a Final Cut Pro X project back into Final Cut 7?

I want to go back to Final Cut 7 (Studio '09) from Final Cut Pro X, but I've already started work in Final Cut Pro X, and I'm worried that my FCP X timelines won't open in FCP 7. Does anyone know?

big no on that one Im afraid, at some point in the future FCPX may export xml but not yet, your project (timeline) is pretty much quarantined inside FCPX, I'd bite the bullet and finish it there if I were you
    cheers

  • Backing up Final Cut Pro projects

I would like to save projects on a portable source such as a DVD. I would like to use the same video on several different work stations. Every way I try seems to save just a "link" to the video stored on my computer, so when I try and load it on another computer it shows the video clips as "offline".
How can I save the actual video clips on a DVD that I can use in Final Cut Pro on another computer?
    Thanks for your help

Just to make sure, please don't hit me if you already know this, but...
The Final Cut project files are just "organization and direction" files. They are files that simply contain directions and 'pointers' to the actual video clips saved on your hard drive. They tell Final cut to "use just this section" of the actual captured clip on your hard drive.
The actual captured clips might be stored on your main hard drive in the following folder(s):
documents\Final Cut Pro Documents\Capture Scratch\ (Your project filename folders here)
Again, you can smack me if I'm not getting the gist of your question, but the key would be moving your actual captured clips to an external firewire drive (as the others have suggested) and then moving that to the other machine ALONG with your project files.
    that make sense?

  • Is there a way make Final Cut Pro X NOT open every event/project I have worked on at open?

I will admit, I am quite new to Final Cut Pro X, but have been a FCP user for years - this version is like learning to walk all over again.
Everytime I open FCP X, it loads every event/project I have ever worked on, and it takes a looooong time.  Is there a way to have it open blank and then let me open only the Events I wish to work with?

Event Manager is only $4.99 but if you don't mind doing it manually, it will cost you nothing.
This Apple help article tells you how to hide the Projects and Events you don't want opening in FCP X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4740
As usual it makes it sound quite complex but all it involves is making 2 folders which you name Final Cut Events - Hidden  and Final Cut Projects - Hidden and dragging the project and event folders you don't want into them. (The exact name of the folders is not critical so you can choose your own if you wish).
When you want to see them again you drag them back into the original folders.
You should move the folders with FCP X shutdown.

  • Final Cut Pro won't open any of my projects.

I had a one month break not having time to work on my videos, during which I have updated Final Cut Pro X to version 10.1.1. Now my projects have vanished from the library, and it won't open .fcpevent or .fcpproject files. When browsing in Finder, everything looks as it always has, but Final Cut library shows only the original clips, none of the edited work. If I try to open .fcpproject file, it states that "The document “CurrentVersion.fcpproject” could not be opened. Final Cut Pro cannot open files in the “Final Cut Pro Project” format." Months of work on a sketch series has thus just disappeared, and my backups are just as useless as the originals. I'm new to Final Cut and edit videos as my hobby and don't quite understand all the features. I've got no idea what to do or try.

Is that an external hard drive? I can't see the left side.
What have you done so far? It looks like a library was created for that drive and the old projects and events were put in a back up folder. Where did these new projects and events come from? None of them after the correct FCP icon. They only have generic icons, and they were all modified today. Did you open them in 10.0.9 today? How were they modified?
Change the name of the folder called Misc. to sonething else.
