I hardly use my LIGHTROOM 3.6 upgrade re not knowing how to use it, today I had a problem with bad files and in trying to open the 1st one I got the above message, I dumped lightroom and reloaded from my disc on two ocassions with no luck - I keep getting the same message - lightroom has encountered a problem and must shut down with all the above as a fault detail

Installing from a CD or from a download? It may be corrupt.
I suggest you compare the checksum of the downloaded file with the checksum as listed on the download page.
The installer is supposed to use its own JRE, so it should not use your installed one.

First thing to try is the latest version of Lightroom (currently 5.6). If it don't crash, then problem solved - upgrade.
If Lr5 won't run on your machine, then Lr4 instead.
If both Lr5 and Lr4 crash on your machine, then at least you know it's a not a Lightroom version problem but something wonked in your system.
If you can't figure out how to resolve the crash on the system you have, then it's time for a new system (or try another converter/editor app).
PS - A few things to try:
* After re-installing new version, if that doesn't fix it, then get rid of all Lightroom-related data files (rename them so they can be restored), in case problem is in Lr data file.
* Remove all non-essential hardware in case problem is hardware/driver.
* Startup up machine with minimal software services.
* If still no go, consider updating driver software, including mainboard drivers and/or bios firmware if need be.
* Of course run all the system hardware and software diagnostics you can - problem could be failing disk or ram..
* Check system event logs for any clues.
If you don't know how to do some of these things - ask.
Do not say "you've tried everything" unless you want a lecture - there is most definitely something you haven't tried. It's like when you can't find your car keys - you haven't looked everywhere - there is somewhere you haven't looked!
PS - Has Lightroom EVER worked on your machine? what's changed since then..

TB failed on W7, W gave me a fault name: MSVCR100.dll
I installed TB on my Win7 machine, (lenovo, if it makles a difference) connected it to my e-mail account.
It worked.
Later I lost it because I did not make copies to desktop etc. So I did that.
Came back later, and the Thunderbird will not come up.

I hope somebody has seen this before.
FWIW Firefox does seem to work properly.The "module" is the Microsoft visual C++ runtime. Something else you have installed has stomped it or it has just been corrupted is my guess. Just download a fresh copy and install it and it will hopefully repair the issue.
Note that the Microsoft crash data is not useful here, but the Mozilla crash reporter information is, if you allowed it to be sent. see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter -

I had no laptop change - no installs or uninstalls. Went to start Firefox just like any other day and it would error out each time. So I uninstalled and installed latest but still error's out. Dell Demension Windows XP Please HelpQuite difficult to uninstall Quicktime. Uninstall kept resulting in 'fatal error' which would not allow the program to be removed. Eventually worked??!
That can be an issue with QT uninstalls if a Codec pack has gone in over the top of it. They can leave stuff lurking about in the Windows\System32\ folder that can confuse the QuickTimes installs/uninstalls.
Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, while also trying to clean away any lefdtover business in your Windows\System32\ from the Codec Pack.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:

1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.

6. Remove any files or folders in there called "QuickTime" or that identify themselves as QuickTime files.

switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now? -

Even if you don't have any third-party plug-ins or add-ons, try opening iTunes in safe mode as per the instructions in the following document:
