Error signing pdf with Reader XI

When I sign a pdf using Acrobat Reader XI, I get the error The Windows cryptographic service provider reported an error: Object was not found   Error code: 2148073489. Is there a way to fix this?

Any update on this issue. I have several people having this issue and would like to know if anyone has been able to locate a resolution.

  • Can't open libHaru-generated PDF with Reader, other readers work.

    Our application uses libHaru to export PDF images.  These PDFs can be opened using PDFlite on Windows, Preview on Mac and some other readers.  However, I have tried several versions of Adobe Reader on both platforms and the files fail to open with the message: "There was an error processing a page.  There was a problem reading this document (14)."   So, it seams that Adobe Reader believes that there is problem with this file.  However, from my very limited understanding of PDF structure, I have no idea what might be wrong, so I don't know how to fix it.  The file is written unencrypted.  It is about as simple a PDF as we can generate - a red-filled rectangle.  I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or help.

  • Why unable to sign PDF with certificate after applying Nitro PDF password protection? (despite it explicitly allowing signing with certificates)

    I used Adobe Reader XI to sign PDFs with certificate, which worked perfectly. Except that the PDF could still be edited by other programs (for example, Nitro PDF) after the signing (but not the fill out fields and the signature). To apply password protection makes sense to avoid changes in the PDF being made after it has been signed. So I applied password protection via Nitro PDF that allows only enter fill-out fields and signing. But when I open it with Adobe Reader, the filling out works fine, but the signing part is not available to click on it (all of the buttons under "Sign" tab are grey). When I go on the Security properties with Adobe Reader, I can explicitly see that signing of this PDF is allowed and yet the option is not open to use for me anymore.
    Any ideas on why it is the case and what I could do about that?
    Many thanks!
    O.

    Actually yes, I just asked my colleague to assist me with this, he password-protected the PDF with Acrobat 8, explicitly allowing for signing and fill-out functions, it also appears in Adobe Reader under security properties as "allowed", but it is not open to use in the Reader for me anymore (grey buttons).

  • Windows 8.1 - problem opening pdf with reader

    Hi, I am using windows 8.1 (not touch). Every time I try to open a pdf with reader, it brings up a previous document and not the one i'm trying to open. As there are not many menu options with windows 8 I can only close it.
    Can someone tell me what I need to do to be able to open pdf files. Thanks in advance

    I am having the same problem. Did you ever get a workable solution or anxwer?

  • Error when opening =any= PDF with Reader

    Hi!  Since installing the new Reader software, I keep getting the same error message whenever I try to open =any= PDF, from those on my system for some time to those just downloaded.
    The error message says:
    Attempt to access invalid address
    I can open any PDF with Sumatra or Foxit, so it's not in the file...

    Hi  Bruce,
    Are you using EMET Antivirus? I have seen the issue caused due to this. Try disabling it and  check.
    I have seen this issue fixed for some users by modifying the following registry key:
    The key is "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management" MoveImages
    Set the key to 1 instead of 0 then reboot the machine.
    In case you still face the issue try the following registry key change:
    The only thing you have to do is rename the following key at the REGEDIT, and everything will be fine !!
    BEFORE:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.exe
    AFTER:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\iexplore.old
    Note: Please take a backup of the registry before attempting this change.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • Can't sign Acrobat Pro 6 PDF with Reader 8

    I have many documents created with Acrobat Pro 6. Some have signature fields (forms). My manager has Reader 8. When she opens the documents, the "sign" capability is not available. She clicks in the signature fields and nothing happens.
    From the File->Properties view, Security tab, Reader 8 shows "Signing: Not Allowed". From the same view in Pro 6, I see "Signing: Allowed".
    Is there something (short of buying Pro 8 ) I can do to my PDFs so my manager can sign them using Reader 8?
    Windows XP, Acrobat Pro 6, Acrobat Reader 8

    With Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES software, you can activate functionality within Adobe Reader (version 7 and above), enabling end users to save, fill in, annotate, sign, and submit PDF documents and forms:

  • Free S/MIME certificate to digitally sign .pdf with Acrobat Reader

    Good morning,
    does anyone have idea where to obtain free S/MIME certificate for personal use and TRUSTED by Adobe Reader to digitally sign documents with own digital signature ? (Comodo S/MIME certificates released by GlobalTrust https://www.globaltrust.it/modulo_reg_smime.asp are free but aren't trusted automatically by Adobe)

    Thanks Ben,
    Unfortunately, that video is for acrobat X or above and I cant find the "save as reader extended" option in Acrobat Pro 9.
    Can this be done from this version?
    Thanks again

  • What matter with a pdf  with Reader Extensions when it's open with Acrobat profesional?

    Hi all
    I'm trying to learn about the functionality of LC using Tour de LiveCycle. It is an exceptional documentation!
    I'm taked the 2 examples about reader extensions functionnality:
    PurchaseOrderExtended.pdf and PurchaseOrder.pdf
    I've open PurchaseOrder.pdf with acrobat profesional and...I could insert comments, save as, signed the pdf...
    Opening it with  Acrobat Reader this is not possible
    Then
    If the company decide to produce a PDF with the "1, 2, 3" funcionalities of reader extensions but not enabling the "4 and 5" funcionalities.....
    Someone that opens this PDF with acrobat profesional has the "1,2,3,4 and 5" functionalities available
    Then
    The  functionality strategy of the company based on the pdf it's not operative!
    Where is the mistake?
    TIA

    There are two possible philosophies for Reader Extensions:
    1) That it is a scheme to limit the the actions that one can take on a PDF; think of this as a sort of a security profile operation
    2) To provide PDF-based access to capabilities on the PDF without having to buy the full Acrobat Standard/Pro.
    Reader Extensions is much more model 2 than model 1.  The goal is to allow people to save filled-in forms, sign pdf or comment on the pdf without having to have the full Acrobat std/pro licensed for their desktop.  So two other things derive from this:
    a) That people who have the full Acrobat version should be able to do anything to the file that they desire
    b) But also that they should be aware of actions that they might take on the PDF that would change the file so substantially that it would lose its rights and the ability of downstream Reader users to act on the file.
    This (2, and then a and b) is the basic philosophy of Reader Extensions and Acrobat.

  • Create and sign PDF with IAC?

    Hello, does anybody know, how to create simple PDF and sign it with X509Certificate from .NET managed application? It seems to me, that it is not possible with Acrobat Interapplication Communication API. Do I really need LiveCycle for this operation?
    Thank you for help.

    When you say "create", do you really mean "convert some other format to PDF" or did you want to start with a blank page and then do things like "draw string", "draw line", etc?
    Will this be a desktop or server-based application?

  • How to sign  PDF with a smart card or USB token in C# through IAC ?

    Hi,
    My goal is to apply a certification signature (MDP) to a PDF document with a smart card (Belgium identity card) from a C# application.
    I start Acrobat through IAC.
    The JavaScript object apparently can only sign with PKCS12 file (.pfx)...
    To sign a PDF with a smart card I need to develop a plug-in if I am right?
    The samples in the SDK are to get a certificate from the windows certificate store or to write a Third party handler.
    I already get the certificate context (an HCRYPPROV object from windows certificate store)
    How can I create a signature field but mostly sign it? With DigSig I guess, but I’m lost in the API… does
    I have to use DigSigSignDoc ?
    Syntax : void DigSigSignDoc(PDDoc pdDoc, CosObj sigField, ASAtom filterKey)
    The filterKey value for the windows certificate store is “Adobe.PPKMS” but how can I choose my certificate?
    I also have to build a signature reference dictionary i guess?
    What does i have to do and in which order? I can't find any documentation on this.
    There is a more simple way?
    Thank you,
    Goffin
    Fabian

    Hi,
    -download the JDK sample "sdkAddSignature.js"
    -change the sign methode like this :
    Sign = app.trustedFunction (
        function( sigField, DigSigHandlerName )
       try {
       app.beginPriv();
       //the diSigHandler is "Adobe.PPKLite"
       var myEngine = security.getHandler(DigSigHandlerName);
       var ids = myEngine.digitalIDs;
       //choose an id which is installed in the microsoft store
      var oCert = ids.certs[3];
      // for (var i=0; i<ids.certs.length; i++)
      //  console.println("certificat n°"+ i + " " +ids.certs[i]);
      var oParams = {cPassword:"0000" , oEndUserSignCert:oCert }
      if(myEngine.login({cPassword:"0000",oParams:oParams,bUI:false}))
       console.println("OK");
      else
       console.println("Error");
      console.println("sigfield :" + sigField);
    sigField.signatureSign({oSig: myEngine,oInfo: { password: "0000",reason: ACROSDK.sigReason,location: ACROSDK.sigLocation,contactInfo: ACROSDK.sigContactInfo}});
    app.endPriv
       } catch (e) {
       console.println("An error occurred: " + e);
    -perform some test using the javascript debugger
    -and finally use IAC to execute the script

  • Remove password from PDF with Reader 9.0?

    Hi,
    We would like to know if a user opens a protected PDF (with 128/256 bits encryption) in Acrobat Reader 9.0,
    can the user save a copy of the protected PDF and the new PDF is no longer password protected.
    That means I would like to check if the reader 9.0 can allow user to remove the password (Of course, permission
    should be granted when creating the protected PDF in Acrobat 9.0) from the protected PDF file.
    Thanks for your attention in advance,
    Raymond

    Reader cannot remove password protection. It only reads files.

  • Listen to Audio File in PDF with Reader 9.3.1

    I have a pdf with a mp3 file in it but can't play it I looked to see if the multimedia.api was on and it says it is any ideas?
                                                                                                                                                                    Thanks Lisa

    Is this just one file or all files with a mp3? What happens? How/When is the mp3 supposed to play?

  • Form edit a signed pdf with Acrobat X

    I would like to know how to convert an already signed pdf into a form and add more fields to it, please.
    I know Acrobat 9 can do this, but X cannot.

    I'm afraid so. My best bet is to pdf-print it and insert fields again. The problem with this is that whatever other field/bookmark gets lost.
    I find this puzzling because Acrobat 9 allows playing more with the fields, and if doubt arrises, then you can always highlight the fields. Anyhow, thanks for the reply and I hope the guys at Adobe get something effective for every instance.
    cheers,
    Alex

  • Error 49.4c02 with Reader 8.2.1

    Hi,
    We have:
    HP Laserjet 2430 FW 08.112.3 (latest) with HP JetDirect J7949E FW V.33.14 (latest)
    HP Laserjet 4350 FW 08.008.6 (older) with HP JetDirect J7949E FW V.28.47 (older)
    When printing a document with reader 8.2.1, we get error 49.4c02 on the HP printer LCD.
    When printing the same document with reader 7.0.9 built into Solaris 10 update 4, we don't get any errors and the document prints fine.
    I have tried to deselect/select several options in the print menu, eg: Download asian fonts, Optimize for speed, Level 3.
    I have also noticed some posts of this happening on the Windows version.
    Does Adobe acknowledge this bug?
    Karl

    This is a Fix that has worked for us, so far:
    To "deleted a suspect print job" is not really a fix as the next corrupt job will cause the error again. I don't think anyone knows exactly what is wrong with the job either. I noticed the problem when we upgraded past Adobe Reader 7 (versions 8 and 9).
    Last year we fixed this problem on HP color 46x0 and 4700 printers by replacing the 615n card (which has had a lot of problems, but that is another thread) with a 620 card.
    I have over two hundred 4100 series through 4300 printers in use at my company. A couple of months ago we had 4 of these 49 errors fixed by having the system board replaced under warranty. We noticed that the replacement board had and older firmware installed. I have been very good at keeping up with updating firmware, so all my HP printers have the latest image.
    Some may mention to make sure you have the "latest versions of firmware for the printer . ."  This is what we found to be the problem. All of my 4250 printers have firmware 20080319 08.015.0 installed. When users reported the 49 errors on 4 printers a couple of weeks ago I installed the 2007 firmware image on them. In two weeks, none of these printers have had the problem. If you remote into the printer and look at the Event Log, you can see how often this error occurs. I was seeing it happen about every 50-100 pages. I have over 4,000 pages now without a problem on the printers the older image was installed on. I just did 2 more last night and plan on doing this to all over the next month.

  • Can open PDF with Reader V 8 but not with V 9

    My Problem is that I can open the PDF  C0000000005.pdf with every Version of Adobe Reader, but the PDF  C0000000006.pdf only opens with older Versions then Adobe Reader 9.1.
    The Adobe Reader 9.1 can also display the PDF  C0000000006.pdf when I open another PDF before.
    Is this a bug or is there anything what is must change in the options?
    Thanks in advance,
    Martin

    I have install the Version 9.1.2 on another PC too.
    And when no Acrobat Reader is already open and I make a double click at the C000000006.pdf, the Reader can not show this PDF.
    But it works fine, when I open first the Acrobat Reader V9.1.2 and then I choice the PDF over the menu.
    What can be different on this two methods to open the PDF?
