Error: "Stopping Services" when upgrading itunes :-( help!

i needed to upgrade my itunes so that i could use my new ipod nano. when i went to do this, i got almost all the way through the download until it says "stopping services." Then after thinking for a long time an error comes up saying the "ipodservice" could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. Now, my old itunes is missing. And the new one isn't finished installing. What should i do!?
i have windows xp

that can happen sometimes if the itunes installer is having a hard time shutting down either itunes or quicktime (or applications using quicktime) prior to the install. so let's try a "download, restart, then install strategy."
leave your ipod unplugged.
download and save a copy of the itunes installer to your hard drive. (do not run the install on line, and do not start the install by clicking on the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file just yet.)
Latest iTunes Installer
shut down running applications and restart the PC.
do not open any other applications prior to attempting the iTunes install. switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.
TRY THAT THE GUY TOLD ME THAT AND IT WORKS NOW. its cool.

  • "iPod Service Failed to Start" message when upgrading iTunes

    When upgrading iTunes from Version 7 to the newest version, I got an error message stating "Service, 'iPod Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priviledges to start system services." So I canceled the download and rolled back to Version 7 again. I did notice that now I'm getting an error message when I start up Version 7, stating that it could not start the iPod service. I just bought an ipod Classic and cannot use it without the latest version of iTunes. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Some anti-virus programs (e.g., McAfee) have this rule that can be invoked under the "maximum protection" settings: PREVENT PROGRAMS REGISTERING AS A SERVICE. If that rule is set to BLOCK, then any attempt to install or upgrade iTunes will fail with an "iPod service failed to start" message.
    If you are getting this problem with iTunes, check to see if your anti-virus has this setting and unset it, at least for as long as the iTunes install requires. Exactly how to find the rule and turn it on and off will vary, depending upon your anti-malware software. However, if your anti-virus or anti-malware software produces a log of its activities, examining the log may help you find the problem.
    For example, here's the log entry for McAfee:
    9/23/2009 3:18:45 PM Blocked by Access Protection rule NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\iPod Service Common Maximum Protection:Prevent programs registering as a service Action blocked : Create
    Note that the log says "Common Maximum Protection: Prevent programs registering as a service". The "Common Maximum Protection" is the location of the rule, "Prevent programs registering as a service" is the rule. I used that information to track down the location in the McAfee VirusScan Console where I could turn the rule off.
    After I made the change, iTunes installed without complaint.

  • Error in "tempInit" when upgrading Flash MX AS2 FLA to Flash CS6 AS3 FLA

    I experienced a compiler error in "tempInit" when upgrading an AS2 project to AS3.  "tempInit" is something internal to Flash Authoring, because it doesn't exist in my project and other people have gotten the same error.
    I've read about this problem, and everyone thought it was because of an instance with a bad name, such as one that includes spaces or equals a keyword or something like that, and people have shot down the idea that the problem is with the library symbol, but I'm convinced now that it's a corrupted library symbol.  Here's why:
    I had 8 instances of a particular movie clip on stage, each on a different frame.
    When I deleted the symbol from the library, the compiler error went away (but so did my stage instances).  So that simply tells me that the problem is with that particular clip (I originally had to delete each clip in my library one at a time and recompile to determine the offending clip), but that obviously didn't rule out the name problem since the stage instances get removed when I deleted the corresponding library symbol.  Still, I knew it couldn't be a name problem, because all instances had a valid name "mainidea".
    I ruled out the name problem by creating a new library symbol identical to the first (it's just a few text fields with a rectangle drawn around them).  Without changing the names of the existing instances on stage, I used the "swap" button to swap in the new library symbol.  The use count on the old one dropped to zero, and the use count on the new one went up to 8.  The compiler error was gone, and it only went away once the use count for the old symbol was zero.
    The old and new library symbols are identical as far as I can see.  Same child objects at the same positions, same textfield content, same child instance names, no ActionScript code, etc.  Since there was no discernible difference, I came to the conclusion that the original library symbols had somehow been corrupted under the hood, somewhere in the pipeline between opening an old Flash MX file and setting the flash player version to 11.4 and selecting AS3 as the script language.  Somewhere in that process, the Flash Authoring environment screwed something up.  Does anyone know anything about this problem?
    I have hundreds of files I need to upgrade, and that symbol was copied to each of them as they were created years ago, and I think I'm going to experience this problem with all of them.  It's time-consuming to duplicate the old symbol and replace all the instances for every single file, so I'm trying to find the source of the problem and a workaround to avoid it.

  • An unknown error occured (-42110) when starting iTunes current version.

    An unknown error occured (-42110) when starting iTunes current version on PC running Win 8 Pro x86. Tried to uninstall i''Tunes. But erratic behaviour when trying to install iTunes again. Get 2 choices, Repair or Delete. Choose Repair, but after some time I get the question: "Do I want to delete everythin in Itunes" Y/N. No matter if reply Y or N or close window, Installation program is terminated without any alterations (or so it says). What ?????

    A repair uninstalls all program files prior to reinstalling them. So the message asking whether or not you want to do that just reflects what has always happened. A repair install (like a standard uninstall, followed by a reinstall) doesn't touch content files under normal circumstances.
    If you think the wording is misleading, it's possible to give feedback directly to the Apple folks about it. Here's a link to the product feedback form for iTunes:

  • Problem of web service when upgrading to Flex 3

    Hi,
    We got a problem when upgrading our application from flex 2
    to flex 3. The same webservice call code returns different results.
    In Flex 2 it works properly but in Flex 3 it only returns partial
    data. There is no fault or error returned in Flex 3. Here are the
    major code:
    In IssueDelegat.as:
    public class IssueDelegate
    private var responder : IResponder;
    private var service : Object;
    private var model : IssueTrackerModelLocator;
    public function IssueDelegate( responder : IResponder )
    this.model = IssueTrackerModelLocator.getInstance();
    this.service =
    ServiceLocator.getInstance().getWebService("jiraWebService");
    if(!model.isWSDLLoaded){
    service.loadWSDL();
    model.isWSDLLoaded = true;
    this.responder = responder;
    public function getProjectsNoSchemes() : void
    var call : Object =
    service.getProjectsNoSchemes(model.loggedInToken);
    call.addResponder(responder);
    model.lastWSRequestTime = new Date();
    In LoadProjectsCommand.as
    public class LoadProjectsCommand extends SequenceCommand
    implements ICommand, IResponder
    public function LoadProjectsCommand()
    public override function execute( event : CairngormEvent ):
    void
    var delegate:IssueDelegate = new IssueDelegate( this );
    delegate.getProjectsNoSchemes();
    public function result(event:Object) : void
    var model : IssueTrackerModelLocator =
    IssueTrackerModelLocator.getInstance();
    model.projects = event.result;
    for each (var proj:Object in model.projects){
    if (proj.key == JiraClientConstants.PROJECT_KEY){
    model.selectedProject = proj;
    break;
    The following fields are supposed to be returned in
    "event.result" and it does in Flex 2, but in Flex 3 it only returns
    <description> field:
    <description xsi:type="xsd:string"/>
    <id xsi:type="xsd:string"></id>
    <issueSecurityScheme xsi:type="ns138:RemoteScheme"
    xsi:nil="true"/>
    <key xsi:type="xsd:string"></key>
    <lead xsi:type="xsd:string"></lead>
    <name xsi:type="xsd:string"></name>
    <notificationScheme xsi:type="ns138:RemoteScheme"
    xsi:nil="true"/>
    <permissionScheme xsi:type="ns138:RemotePermissionScheme"
    xsi:nil="true"/>
    <projectUrl xsi:type="xsd:string"/>
    <url xsi:type="xsd:string"></url>
    Are there any major changes on the web service in Flex 3.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Error Code: U44M2P20 when upgrading CS5, with Illustrator CS5 15.02

    Recently I got the message to upgrade my Adobe Creative Suite (CS5) Production Premium.  However during upgrade three components failed:
    1.     Extension Manager 5.5
    2.     Adobe Illustrator CS5 15.0.2 and
    3.     Pixel Bender 2.5
    I got the message to upgrade these components again today and the upgrade again failed.
    I then downloaded the actual upgrades and tried to manually upgrade but it again failed with error code U44M2P20
    when I looked at the error code I get the note:
    Error "This serial number is not for a qualifying product..." when installing an upgrade or upsell
    however, I currently have Adobe Illustrator 15.0.0 and Pixle Bender toolkit 2.0 installed and working.
    how can I either upgrade or stop the upgrade messages from coming up.

    I am getting the impression that you should be saying "update" instead of "upgrade"
    If the Adobe Application Manager is involved in these messages about updates then what you can do is adjust the preferences to no longer check for updates for the troublesome program updates.
