Error storing authorisation information

I recently installed iTunes on my new computer, but when I want to purchase a song or even play a preview I get to following error message:
"An error occured storing authorisation information on your computer."
I tried reinstalling iTunes to no avail.
This is getting quite annoying because I also can't play previously purchased songs anymore.
Thanks in advance for any insights.

Ok, finally I solved it (for me that is);
1.First go to the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info
2.Then:
In Windows Explorer, go to Tools/Folder Options/View, then
scroll down and remove the checkmark on the "Use Simple File Sharing..." option. Windows XP (pro) use simple file sharing by default. You have more control without it.
Now go to the folder you want to share, right-click and select the "sharing and security" option, select the "share this folder" radio button, click "maximum allowed", click "Permissions" and make sure to select the permissions to the user or group you want. I would select Full Control to Everyone first just to make sure it works.
On the "security" tab, allow everything!
Now iTunes is allowed to save authorisation information on your system!

  • Error Storing Authorization Information?

Recently, I decided to make my usual log in account a non-administrative account. Now when I try and purchase music from the iTunes music store, I receive the below message about the "required file" not being found or having a permission error. I ran repair permission without effect. When I change my account back to administrator status, the error does not appear, so I assume that I need to change the read/write permissions for the file that stores the authorization information. Anyone know where this file is (hidden?) and how I can correct this error?
    Thanks
"There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer.
The required file was not found or has permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."

Authorization information is stored in the 'SC Info.sidb' file in the 'SC Info' folder (hidden) inside ./Users/Shared.
Your Shared folder might not have the correct permission.
This article mentions which permissions it should have:

First I would just try deleting the SCInfo folder, restart your computer, open itunes and see if you are still getting the error, at that point if you are it is a permissions error with the computer specificaly and not in itunes.

that is for deleting the scinfo folder. scroll to the bottom of the article and the steps are there

  • ITunes Error "There was an error storing your authorization information ...

I cannot play music downloaded from itunes. I have a dell computer with Windows XP Media with 4 users set up. One user has an itunes library that we downloaded music from itunes and got the following messages when trying to access the song.
    1. open itunes and click on purchased song
    2. the authorize computer pop-up window says this computer is not authorized to play "my doorbell", would you like to authorize it?
    3. I enter the name and password and click authorize.
    4. itunes tells me you have authorized 1 out of 5 machines.
    5. I click ok and another pop-up box tells me "There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer. The required file was not found or has permission errors. Correct the permission problem and try again or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."
I followed the suggestions from a 3/21/06 posting on this matter, to the best of my ability, to no avail.
I've uninstalled itunes, run my disk cleanup utility to remove all unnecessary files (hoping to remove any orphan files) and re-installed itunes which did nothing. the 3/21 posting said to delete the library itl file and imported the library xml file (again). I am not sure what that means so I did not take this step.
    Any help would be appreciated.-lpo

  • There was an error storing your authorization information...

With iTunes 5 I went to the music store and tried to double-click a song just to hear a preview (Black Eyed Peas, Let's Get it Started). I was asked to authorize my computer, it said I had authorized 4 of 5 correctly (I have only 2 machines using it, but whatever) and then I got this error:
"There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer.
The requested directory was not found or there was a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed."
I'm on Windows, with admin access, so it's not a permissions problem. I checked the Apple Computer folder in my Documents and Settings\Application Data folder, and I have write permissions there. I deauthorized this computer, but it gave me the exact same error.
In the knowledge base there is a fix for Macs, but nothing listed for PCs. I had no problems using the store with iTunes 4.9, this is a new problem for me with 5.0. So, until there's a fix, no ITMS purchases for me!

I'm having this problem as well. I'm dissapointed it's so hard to find information on the subject.
One of the things I guessed might have bee a problem is that my music files are on a file server on the network but when I changed the iTunes music folder location back to my local drive, I still hade the problem.
Another non-standard setup I have is a recent HD change. I copied my partitions to a new drive via PQ Partition Magic. I've had no problems with any other app, but I can't help but wonder if iTunes stores some kind of invisible autorization information in a hidden section of the partition that it can no longer access.
In any case, a word from the fine folks at Apple would sure help. What do you guys have to say?

  • Error Storing

Hi, i try open the videos i bought and this message pops up i do every thing it says but it keeps on happening
There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer
The requirement directory was not found or has a permissions error.
Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed.

I just had this and just fixed it. first close itunes. Do a search for "itunes preferences" in search bar with finder. Delete the xml files associated with itunes. Then redownload the itunes installer and reinstall. Presto. Problem solved. This doesn't hinder your library, just merely rebuilds the itunes system
    Cheers

  • Error Storing Authorization Info

When I try to listen to a song in iTunes it asks me to enter my password, although I am already signed into iTunes. When I type my password a box appears that says "There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer. ...there is a permissions error or the required directory was not found... deauthorize your computer if the permissions error cannot be changed." However, when I go to the Store tab and go down to Deauthorize Computer, it doesn't recognize my username and password. This also poses a problem because the store will not let me put my already purchased songs back onto my iPod. Anyone know what I need to do? I am using a Mac.

If you haven't been able to have yours work lately I tried something that worked. I went to this page:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9127409&#9127409
Then I did the first part were I downloaded the newest version of iTunes and the newest version of Quicktime, then I deauthorized my computer and authorized it right afterwards and it worked.
So if you're still trying to find out the problem, you can try this and hopefully it'll work for you... I still have to see if it will play the iTune Store songs or not, but hopefully this helps! Good Day!

  • Issue with storing authorization information, trying to start Home Sharing

I am currently attempting to set 'Home Sharing' up on my iTunes so that I will be able to share music and videos between two computers in my household. Both computers are on the same network, my home network. When I attempt to start Home Sharing, the following phrase pops up after putting in my iTunes username and password:
"There was an error storing your authorization information on this computer." (followed by other writing)
If anyone can help me to correct this issue and to start my Home Sharing it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Weird message in iCal "Error Locating Account Information"

    Hi,
I've a problem syncing iCal with Google calendar.
It works in the beginning very well, but sometimes I receive the message:
    Error Locating Account Information
Request encountered an unexpected error (domain CalDAV No Calendar Home Error / code 1).
    And the calendar stops syncing.
What is this message ? Why works well and then, suddenly, stops ?(without change any setting)
    Mac OS X - 10.6.7
    iCal 4.0.4
    Thanks

    Greetings,
That is an error message coming back from the Google CalDAV server when iCal requests an update of your calendars.
1.) First make a backup of your calendars by clicking on each one, one at a time and going to File > Export > Export and then saving the files somewhere for safekeeping.
2.) Delete the Google account from iCal > Preferences > Accounts
3.) Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical and / or "ical"
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
4.) Launch iCal and then go to iCal > Preferences > Accounts and re-add your Google account being very careful to type in the user name and password correctly.
    See if that helps.

  • Error: "The document information panel was unable to load"

    Hello,
I have created a custom document content type that uses a specified word template for a sharepoint document library for contracts and offers, and added a few custom columns in the document library as well. The word template launches succesfully when creating a new item in the document library, but the problem arises when I add custom columns to the word template content type. When the document loads in Word, I get the following error: "The Document Information Panel was unable to load. The document will continue to open. For more information, contact your system administrator." And in details:
"Document Information Panel cannot create a new, blank form.
Document Information Panel cannot open the form. To fix this problem, contact your system administrator.

The following item already exists in the collection: list_033AA217-8906-447E-A604-A300F51D4030"
Interestingly enough, I have two web applications running on the same server that I have tried to implement this on, and on the other it works flawlessly, meaning that the Document Information Panel launches successfully and I can edit the columns associated with that content type and store the values in a document library. I have also tried to save the DIP template from the working web application and use it as the default DIP template on the other application, but that doesn't work either.
I have also tried to browse through all options and configurations in the application settings in CA and SSP, but to no avail. Any suggestions about what might be causing this problem or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
