Error: sync audio & midi

Hi,
I've searched the forum and it seems that a lot of people are having this problem - although I haven't found a solution.
I am getting the following error message:
"Error while trying to sync audio and midi. Sample rate 42572 recognized. Check conflict between logic express and external devices".
Here's what I'm using:
Intel MacBook Pro, OS 10.4.8
M-audio Midiman 2x2
Old Yamaha Clavinova controller
When I was using a powerPC iMac, everything was fine. Now that I'm using this macbook pro (intel), I'm having this error come up every 5 seconds during playback and recording.
What can I do? Is this an Intel compatibility problem or is there something else going on?
Thanks!

Yes. I've increased buffer sizes...
I copied the file over to my power PC mac and everything is working fine. I have a feeling it's just a compatibility issue with using a power pc program on an intel mac.
I will try downloading the intel update. If anyone else has any other suggestions, please suggest!
Thanks!

  • Help with "Error syncing Audio and Midi" message. How to fix?

    Hi,
I'm running Logic Pro 7.1 on a G5 Dual 2.5 PowerMac. My audio interface is a Digidisign Digi002R, and my MIDI interface is a MOTU Fastlane. Up until a few days ago everything was working fine. I didn't install any new software or anything.
All of a sudden in any Logic session I open (new or saved) I get all kinds of artifacts that sound like they're associated with sample rate problems.
True to form, on playback after 4 or 5 seconds a message comes up telling me that there is an error syncing audio and midi. It tells me that a sample rate of 88209, or 88213, or 88207 (each time it's different) was detected, and that there is a conflict between Logic and my external device.
My Digi002R is set to 44.1, and Logic is set to 44.1 as well. I have no idea where this problem came from.
The only thing I do know is that I've been using the Peachtree Press Apple Pro Training Series to study for my Level 1 Logic certification. it comes with a CD with Logic sessions to use with the text. The CD comes with a Logic Epress Demo but I didn't download that as I've already got Logic Pro. I dragged those session files to my desktop, and the problem occured for the first time when iopened up that first session from the CD. After that, every single session has this problem and I have no idea how to fix it.
Sorry for the incredibly long message, but can anybody help?
    Thanks

    Hey,
Thanks. I appreciate the help, but I've tried all of that. I just don't get it. I've unplugged everything, I've shut down, powered down, relaunched everything a dozen times and the problem doesn't go away. I know that the problem is with Logic because the interface works perfectly fnie with everything else, from Pro Tools to iTunes.
I'm having Logic Pro 7.2 shipped to me so I'm hoping that installing that will reset everything, but until then I can't do anything in Logic.
Anybody ever encounter anything like this?

  • File plays fine, then I get  "Error Syncing Audio and Midi"

Hi, I just installed my upgrade to Logic 9 from 8. When I play a file , it goes fine at first, then if I save it, a crackling sound takes over and I get a message like "Error syncing Audio and Midi". Saving the file is not the only thing that will cause this to occur but I can't pinpoint exactly what and when these other times happen.
I did some troubleshooting with an Apple Rep by phone the other day and it seemed we had it figured out that the problem was about bringing projects over from Logic 8 and opening them in Logic 9. The suggested solution was to export audio tracks from 8 and import them into 9 as a fresh project.
It then seemed that when I started a project from scratch in Logic 9, I had no problems. This no longer seems to hold water as a theory. The problem I'm having now is with a project I started fresh in Logic 9.
When the crackling sound starts, the play speed seems to slow down as if I were playing an old 78 on the wrong speed or something.
Also I can't bounce to make an Mp3 in Real time - that causes this crackling sound/speed issue to occur as well. When I try to bounce an Mp3 offline, it re-hashes the first Mp3 I did and I don't hear my changes even as I choose to replace the file. This is screwy,...really.
I appreciate any assistance or ideas on this.
    Thanks, Frank B.

I was getting the same issue last night with a stereo track and one instance of Addictive Drums with just tom fills and a few crash cymbals in the sequence. I thought it might be a AD issue because I assigned a multi instrument to AD which is not necessary but I forgot that. I deleted the multi instrument and this seems like it solved it for me. I just ran the track and no Midi Audio sync errors or the crackling sound. Do you have any multi instruments in your setup?

  • Syncing audio&midi tracks that vary from take to take in the same project

    Sorry
I'm sure this issue is buried somewhere else but I couldn't find it.
I was recording live with a guitar player. He's audio and I'm midi(piano).
I used a separate track for each take.
The first two takes we turned off the click . On the third we tried it with the click and adjusted the tempo. Now takes 1&2 are out of sync.
I called Apple Pro care and he said there is no memory of the original tempo stored on the audio track so I should write this down. I suppose the best place would be to name the tracks something like this.
    Audio 1 120
    Audio 2 130
    midi 1 120
    midi 2 130
I tried to write the question so in the future searchers with the same problem might find this thread easily.
Please post any suggestions or useful links for working with this issue.
    ---thanks

Your method of naming takes with the tempo is a good one. Another aproach to this type ol live recording is to simply record your piano as audio, just like the way you record the guitar. If you don't make a note of the tempos, you'll have trouble editing on the grid, or doing further production with a click (both doable, just extra work involved) but your audio tracks will remain in sync with each other.

  • Audio midi utility won't let me configure midi

I have a mid 2012 Macbook pro. It won't let me configure anything in the Midi part of the Audio MIdi untility. I don't want to use any external midi devices. Does anyone know why?
    Thanks.

    Here's the error message:
Audio MIDI Setup couldn’t open the MIDI Server so you can’t view or edit your MIDI configurations.
If you recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and then open Audio MIDI Setup again.  If Audio MIDI Setup works correctly after that, contact the driver’s manufacturer for further support.

  • Audio MIDI Setup won't let me change Audio Output format

When I try to change the format to 48000.0 Hz it automatically changes it back to 44100.0 Hz, which in turn changes the Audio Input format to the same. I am also using an iMic Audio Interface, if that helps at all.

  • "Error while trying to sync Audio and Midi"

"Error while trying to sync Audio and Midi" I have been having this problem now and then for some time. Now, I can't run any audio files without a lot of popping. I tried all the suggestions on the support document for this issue. I even downloaded new drivers from Motu for my Express XT Midi interface and my 828MK11 Audio interface. There has been no change. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!
Also, I have tried reseting the 828 to factory default and that does not help.
    Jonathan Jenkins

    Hi,
I solved my own problem by resetting the factory presets:
Follow these steps to restore the MOTU 828mkII to Factory Default Settings.
Disconnect the firewire cable from the 828mkII
    Press the Setup knob
Turn the Setup knob all the way to the right
    Press the Select knob
    Press the Value knob
Power off the interface and plug the firewire cable back in
    Power the interface back on
The same steps can be followed to restore the Factory Default Settings on a Traveler.

  • Audio/MIDI Sync Errors

After working perfectly for months, I now am getting audio MIDI Sync error messages. The result is no audio output either from audio instruments or recorded audio. I am using a MOTU 896HD and audio thru itunes works as long as Logic is not running at the same time. If I switch to built in audio it seems to play back fine.

    Stever,
There's a few posts on this over at the Sonikmatter forums.
    Two things were recommended.
Toggle the internal clock to ADAT then back to internal.
If that doesn't help, unplug the unit (electricity and firewire) then toggle the voltage selector switch, (putting it back to there it was of course).
After doing this, flip the clock to ADAT then back to internal.
The idea is to reset the unit.
    Post back if this works...

  • Error Trying to Sync Audio and MIDI - Please Help!

Hey everyone, I know this is a fairly common problem, and I've tried following the Logic Help and manual, but it hasn't solved it.
Last night, I was recording and mixing with my MOTU 828mkII into my Powerbook G4 running Logic Pro 6.4, and everything was working perfectly. Today, when I opened up Logic again to work on mixing the song I recorded last night, after not having changed a single preference anywhere, something bizarre happened. When I clicked the play button, the song began playing, but no sound came out, except for a high-pitched digital howling sound, and after about 5 seconds, an error message came up saying, "Error Trying to Sync Audio and MIDI." I tried other song files I'd recorded months ago, and even with brand new song files, and the same exact problem occurred!
Apparently, it's a discrepancy in the sample rates between my MOTU and Logic? But both have been set to 44.1 for months, and I haven't changed anything. The Logic Help said to change the Sync Mode to MTC Continuous (which I believe it was already set to) or MTC Trigger/ASD (which didn't help).
I even tried re-installing Logic altogether, and changing the sample rates both on my MOTU and Logic to 48 and then back to 44.1, and nothing works.
Please help me! What should I do?
    Thanks very much,
    TB

I suffered from this problem, and it was particularly frustrating to me since I was not even using MIDI, or so I thought. The "Error Trying to Sync Audio and MIDI" message seemed to crop up just as I was ready to print a final mix.
I did some research and learned that the Logic automation is actually MIDI data, furthermore, I learned that The sample accurate automation feature in Logic Audio results in randomly sized audio buffers being passed to plug-ins.
    My solution?
Turn OFF "sample accurate automation" in the menu Logic Pro / Preferences / Audio...
The automation is very accurate even with this option disabled.

  • Error trying to sync audio with midi

I get this "Error trying to sync audio with midi" using my motu 828mk2 firewire sound card.
I have updated my osx to 10.5.2 and now i cant use my motu ... osx 10.5.2 has a firewire issue with the motu 828mk2 if any one else has the same problem with any make of audio devices please let me know, i cant seem to find a solution unless i go back to my old osx or buy another sound module, but i should not have to result in doing something like that when i have spent a **** lot of cash buying this in the first place, isnt motu and apple both big players in pro audio? why is it so un compatable, is it just me with this issue or is their a major blunder with apple or motu, it only seems to happen with osx 10.5.2 and nothing else with the same machine with diffrent installls, so apple get on to it and fix it as im sure its the new osx firewire kexts or something, its not motu as it works fine with everything else and the same machine with all os systems.....except osx 10.5.2.

Well, I thought this was fixed by changing the buffer size but it isn't. Still get the "Error trying to sync Audio with MIDI" error. Logic is detecting 44.1 kHz, I have Logic set for 96 kHz. The FireWire is set for 96 kHz, internal sync. Logic preferences are set for sync -> internal. Audio sync is set for "external or free" (I am not using a MTC source). I have downloaded and installed v1.8.4 from M-audio. I changed the IO buffer from 256 to 512.
I can't figure out what the magic is here. When I boot Logic, it syncs fine until I click on the "help" menu, the loses sync. Occasionally it comes back for no apparent reason. The system has no problem recognizing the 410 or bringing up the management interface.
    Any sage words of advice?
    Thanks, Bark

  • Logic Express not syncing with phonics firewire board via audio midi

I am unable to get my logic express to sync with the phonics helix firewire board. the phonics board is recognized by the midi audio set up, but only sometimes.
I have tried adjusting the sample rate in logic and in audio midi and I have tried switching the clock source from mac to device as well as changing the firewire chord.
I am unable to get sound through the board to the computer or from the computer through the board.
I am also receiving error messages regarding the programs reading of the sample rate.
    Please help.
    Thank you

I received an excellent pointer over on the Mackie support forum, and that was to set up an Aggregate Device in the OS X Audio Midi Setup utility.
That worked great, and now I have analog input to my 400F, and output/monitoring on my Mac's Built-in Line Out/speakers.

  • Error when trying to synchronize audio & midi

Just made the transition from PC to mac. I've used my motu 828 without problems on Logic 5.5, and for the last few days thus was the case on my mac with Logic Pro 7.1.
Today, after casually exploring Garage Band, I cannot get an output signal through the motu (except for clicks) on Logic. Also, it keeps stopping and gives the message 'Error when trying to synchronize audio & midi'.
Other applications come through loud and clear.
I tried resetting the motu, and re-enstalling Logic without luck.

Thanks Ben for the response. The error message was actually coming up regardless of of how little was running. As it happens, I've somehow managed to fix the problem, but it involved trashing Garage Band.
    Your input was much appreciated.

  • Selecting Atmosphere track causes "Error while trying to synch Audio & MIDI

I have the strangest problem; I have a track worked up with a few channels of Atmosphere, no problems for the first day I worked on it (no problems like this ever, as a matter of fact). Somehow, though, now when an Atmosphere track is selected, hitting "play" produces all sorts of crunching and crackling, followed by "Error while trying to synchronize Audio & MIDI; Sample rate 41576 (or whatever) recognized, please check external device". If I select a different track on the left side of the arrange page, there's no problem. The problem doesn't exist with other plugs (Absynth, EXS24, etc.) The problem is exactly the same if I just use the mac's internal audio (I usually use 3 MOTU 2408s) and turn the MOTU interfaces off, so I doubt it's related to the MOTU's 424 card or interfaces, or anything that's plugged into them. Searching "Error while trying to synchronize" produces hundreds of hits; has anyone ever heard of this? And what's the solution?

I played around unplugging firewires and external drives and it seems to of cleared the glitch. It seems to be an issue with firewire but now I know the sequence which to turn everything on so far it's all good.

  • Error while trying to synchronize audio & midi ?

I have Logic Pro 7 with G5 iMac (1st Gen) and MOTU 828mk2. Everything has been working fine for years until today. I booted up the same as normal but I get the message "error while trying to synchronize audio & midi". I get no sound at all and I have no idea how to clear this and get back to my track.
Hope this is a simple problem someone can help me with.

  • 'error synchronizing audio to midi" trouble with MACBOOK

I cant get logic running smoothly, with only ultrabeat and a few plug ins opened the trouble starts with 'error synchronizing audio to midi"
I get pops and clicks and delays in the sound when i use logic, i also have the random shutdown problem and the cpu whine.
Ive already tried all solutions of this list
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304113
I use an RME Fireface 400, but the trouble also occurs with the onboard soundcard.

Have you tried increasing your audio buffer size within Logic?
Have you installed Pro Apps tool for Logic?
Have you got the latest drivers and firmware installed for your Fireface 400?
It would help if you included in your forum profile the specification of your Mac as well!
