Error Syncing iPhone 4S

Phone: iPhone 4S iOS 6 (error was with previous software, too)
iTunes: Latest software (occurred with previous editions)
Problem:
When I attempt to sync my phone to my laptop I get the following error:
"iTunes could not back up the iPhone.... because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone. Delete the backup for this iPhone then try again"
It used to backup (I've had the phone for about 6 months); I"ve stored .pdfs in iBooks and that's about it.
Question(s):
Has anyone else had this error?
How did you solve it?
Where are the backup files stored?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Both my husband and I had this same thing happen to us -both of us got the same error message every time we tried to backup and update our phones.  I deleted my last backup as it requested & then I noticed that an old backup from and old phone (not even an iPhone) was being stored in iTunes so I deleted that one too, then backed up my phone and updated the iOS.  I was able to backup and update my husband's phone without deleting his last back up so I think the old backup from the old phone was hindering something.

  • Error syncing iPhone (-50)

I am getting this on both my wife's and my iPhone, I looked it up and found out that the error is related to reading a bad iPhoto. The only thing that has changed in the time I last synced was I updated the OS X. Now my iPhone can't see any of my photos to be put on my phone. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
Try deleting the iPod photo Cache folder, which is in the folder photos are synced from. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314 provides more details about the folder.
Also, make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac, using the cable that came with it.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

get error message when trying to sync iphone to puter that says"cannot connect because apple mobile divise is not started? what do i do?

Restart your computer and the iPhone. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.

  • ITunes Unknown error (-53) when trying to sync iPhone in Windows 7

I've done a bit of googling and didn't find anything that helped.
    I have tried:
    - resetting the iPhone
    - rebooting the OS
    - the disabling power save on the USB
    - installing a new version of iTunes (9.0.3.15)
    - installing iTunes over itself (9.0.3.15)
    - installing an older version of iTunes (9.0.0.70)
The error occurs at the last stage, where iTunes says " Syncing "iPhone <name>" ".
Phone was previously sync'd with my iTunes in XP before going to 7. I did choose to sync only with the new 7 system.
The phone charges fine, and I can pull pictures off of it via Windows.
    Ideas?

    Jollyman,
to sync your photos, you have a few options.
If you have your TOP iTunes page set to "automatically" sync when logged on, it will search for the photos folder in your iTunes folder on your PC. If you have nothing in there, nothing will come out and whatever is already on your device will be synced to 'nothing' in you folder.
I find it more useful to checkmark on the top iTunes page "manage music and photos manually". This will give you a little bit more control of where and which photos/in which folder on your PC you wish to update/sync.
Once you've checkmarked it, you'll see a pop-up..."are you sure etc...it will erase blah blah blah". Click YES and APPLY (important).
Now when you click in the left sidebar on your device's name (iPod, iPhone...whatever), click on the icon itself to take you to your device's homepage. In the top menu choose PHOTOS and choose in the dropdown menu the folder where you wish to keep ALL your pics/320x480-Images/Photos/ETC. that you have made your DESTINATION folder for UPDATES. This is important, because every time you'll sync your hardware, iTunes will search for that folder to locate any new updates/additions to that folder and considers it an update/sync. So make sure you always have ALL the things in that folder that you wish to see on your iPhone/iPod or whatever you are trying to update/sync.

  • "Merging data" error when syncing iPhone 5s Calendar to MacBook Pro Calendar, using Mountain Lion

Since a failed attempt to sync data via iCloud (resulting in duplicate entries in Calendar and Contacts, missing data, and other oddities), whenever I try to sync the Calendars via iTunes, I repeatedly get the error message, "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone <name> because an error occurred while merging data." The Contacts sync fine, and the backup runs smoothly. The only discussions I can find in Apple Support are dated 2009 with older systems (I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.5, iTunes 11.1.5, iOS 7.1.1, but the problem occurred with iOS 7.0 and possibly 6.0 as well). Repairing permissions had no effect. I can't use the option to copy the Mac Calendar to the iPhone because new data are entered into the iPhone. Would appreciate guidance. I'm trying to avoid iCloud but if I have to go there to fix this, guidance for that would also be welcome.

I have iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4 and iMac with Mavericks 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2.1.
I also got this error when I tried to sync iPhone with iMac (after a year when Apple disabled local USB cabel sync in Mavericks - thanks Apple for re-enabling it!).
I tried a number of things to no avail. Finally I tried three things - and hurraaa, can sync now! Unfortunatelly I didn't test sync among these three steps - so don't know which one fixed it - up to you to try. My guess is that it was the 3rd step, actually
Step 1: On my iPhone I opened Calendar and tap "Calendars" (top left). I have 7 items on the list (2 email accounts, Calendar, Home, Work, Reminders, Birthdays). Most of the calendar entries were in my Home calendar, only a few were in Work or Birthdays. I moved all of them to Home. I also checked whether there aren't any items without content.
Step 2: On the list of Calendars I had one custom item (Birthday in my local language). This item had only one entry in it. I deleted both the single entry and the custom item as a whole - so I left the default categories only.
Step 3: At the top of the list of Calendars there is an item "All from My Mac". I tapped this and thus enabled all of my calendar categories. Now the sync worked like a charm!
I actually noticed that when I synced, iTunes automatically checked all items under "Sync Calendars - Selected Calendars". Even if I manually deselected all except the "Home" calendar, as soon as I started to sync, iTunes checked all items automatically. This led me to thinking that if I check "All from My Mac" item in my iPhone it might work.
Good luck with your sync issue, hope you'll solve it.

Doublechecking something Emcee. I see you've got Windows 7 x64, so I'm assuming you've got at least 4 GB of RAM. Do you also have an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see the following Microsoft document:
[You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972]

  • ITunes 9.1.0.79 error syncing with iPhone

I have never had a syncing error with iTunes 9.03 and below, but since upgrading to 9.1.0.79, I get the following error:
"The iPhone 'XXXXX's iPhone' cannot be synced. There is not enough memory available."
My iPhone still has over 5GB of free memory, my computer has 3GB of RAM, and my hard drive has 36GB of free space. Which "memory" is lacking? I suspect this is a bug in iTunes 9.1.0.79.
Anyone else out there with the same problem? Or perhaps any suggestions?
    Thanks.
