Error syncing Outlook calendars : "sync server failed to sync the phone"; bad Outlook entries?

I just started having problems syncing my calendars from Outlook 2007/WinXP to my iPhone via iTunes, getting the "cannot sync" error. I tried following all the advice elsewhere on these boards -- deleting my backups and resetting sync history, using a different cable/USB port, etc., but nothing helped. I'm strongly averse to doing a backup/recovery unless I absolutely positively know it will fix it, and right now, I doubt that it will.
I looked in the sync log files, and found this:
[2828 @ Wed Jul 06 15:08:27 2011] [_ISDVLog AppleMobileSync.exe] While filtering - Some ids (<CFArray 0254F1B8 [00BC5078]>{type = immutable, count = 15, values = (
    0 : E8034F72-29A8-7448-8CDE-343B4F9B8420
    1 : 91D1F339-ADF7-064D-9BF4-1634B516832B
    14 : 37C931FA-1102-F44D-B670-4E118229A8B9
)}) to filter were not found in the truth! There must be a reference to a non-existent record
So I suspect the problem lies here, and that it's complaining that some calendar records are somehow corrupt or otherwise problematic for the sync engine. However, I'm at a loss to figure out which items these are, or how to even narrow it down to a specific calendar -- it doesn't matter if I uncheck all of the calendars but one, I still get it no matter what, making me think it could be in a calendar I am explicitly NOT trying to sync.
Or...given that the problem happens if I unselect all my individual calendars (the "Sync Calendars with..." remains checked), could the problem be corrupt records on the phone? I haven't tried removing the calendars entirely on the phone and replacing them, although that may be my next step, but if the sync continues to fail, I'll have NO calendar data (instead of just out-of-date data), which is far worse.
Am I on the right track here?

Well, the answer is that I was on the right track with the second suggestion. The problem seems to have been corrupt records on the phone itself. I checked the option to replace all calendar information on the next sync, then synced a second time, and everything restored fine. (Minus the calendar colors that I had arranged just so, but that's fixable with lots of re-syncing and patience.)

  • "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone "name" because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone".

I get the message "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone "name" because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone" every time I sync the iPhone 3GS with iTunes by USB.  Can anyone help? Please !!!!

I posted the following to "iTunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone "xx" because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone. What does this mean??" at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15820680#15820680
I haven't seen it mentioned but the secret is to
    Sync only selected calendars
Select "Remove Calendars" from the popup window
(This is ambigous: from where are the calendars removed?  From the device being synced to)
    Click apply.
Oops!  My memory is already gone stale.  I think I left no calendars selected, then clicked apply.  Then I selected the calendars that I wanted, then clicked apply.
In any case, I had a blank calendar on my iPad and then I had all the updated events that I wanted on my iPad.
Thanks to all who provided some of the essential clues to resolving this problem.

  • ITunes could not sync calendars to ---'s iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone

iTunes could not sync calendars to ---'s iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone. How can this be resolved? I can figure out if the sync server failed to sync then iTunes would not sync the calendars.  Everything syncs on my iPad mini 3 wifi and my iphone syncs my contacts but not the calendars. So what gives?

    Brenden,
thanks for the reply, but the troubleshooting tips seemed to concentrate on 'Lion"," Snow Leopard" and the like, I haven't a clue what any of that is. I am using Windows 7 Pro with Service Pack 1 on my desktop and my iPhone is using iOS 8.1.2, as is my iPad mini.  As I said on my previous post, syncing on my iPad mini works fine, It is just the iPhone that fails to sync the calendars. Hopefully a solution can be found as it is difficult to keep things synced on my iPad  and then have to add everything manually onto my iPhone.

  • FIX: calendar probs "sync server failed to sync the iphone"

    Hi all,
Out of nowhere my 3GS with OS4 stopped syncing via iTunes. (I use USB and PC with XP). Error message included "sync server failed to sync the iphone"
    One to try.......
    Go to My Computer
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs
There are file with names like
    asl.987429_25Aug10 (for example)
I opened a file with the date when the problem occurred.
Scroll down and look for a line like this.
USB mux port 32498 for device 9: No such device or address
[5968 @ Thu Aug 26 14:06:51 2010] [(unknown facility) iTunes.exe] MobileDeviceConnectlocked (thread 592): Could not connect to lockdown port on device 3e59d5e8fc22f5cad8a409af80aedd59396ee165.
Take note of this number 3e59d5e8fc22f5cad8a409af80aedd59396ee165 (or just the last few digits). Then..........
    Go to My Computer
    C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Apple Computer\SyncServices\Local\Copy clientdata\
I had 3 folders, all with long alphanumeric names, lets call them A, B and C. Open each of them in turn; they will have a the text document "clientname". You should fine something like this:
"com.apple.MobileSync.3e59d5e8fc22f5cad8a409af80aedd59396ee165" where the alphanumeric is the same as the error message. For me this was in folder A.
Now, go back to the \clientdata folder and copy the Folder (folder A - with the correct "clientname" file in it) to your desktop (so you can restore if it doesn't work)
then delete that folder (folder A) from the \clientdata folder.
Close all and reattempt to sync whilst turning around 3 time anti clockwise with your hands on your head.
Worked for me - no loss of data.
    Good luck!!!!
    Cheers
    Ken H

This just worked for me, thank you! It's a little confusing at one point -- the folder you're looking for is called clientdata (you have it as "Copy clientdata" at one point), and the folder may have other items in it, which will also have long names, but you need to ignore those items and open the file called clientname -- INSIDE THAT FILE in one of the folders, you'll find the long name you're looking for. THAT'S the folder you want to remove.

Have you previously synced photos to your iPad ? If so try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • Hi, I can't sync my Mac Book Air and iPhone5 calendars. I get a message from iTunes saying that the sync server failed to sync iPhone.  Any explanations and/or solutions?  Thanks.

What can I do to sync Mac Book Air and iPhone 5 calendars if the iTunes message says that 'the sync server failed to sync iPhone'?
    Thanks,

Read the KB. Earlier today I had a fail to sync - I closed my Calendar app and the reopened and all was good.
Sometimes just closing the app the relaunching is all it takes. At other times a reboot of the Mac is all that is needed.
