Error that I need to install 64-bit version of iTunes

I'm running VISTA 64bit.
I downloaded the 64bit installer iTunes64Setup.exe and installed it. The first screen in the installer showed an "x64" by the version number.
I run iTunes and plug in my new iPod Touch v2 to initialize it. I get an error message saying the iPod can not be used and I need to remove iTunes and reinstall the 64-bit version.
I've removed and reinstalled, it didn't help.
What now?

I just tried it on another computer that is also running Vista x64 and it worked fine. The installer DOES choose the x86 folder, but that worked fine. Don't change it.
I still need this to work on my main PC so I can sync my songs and pictures. At least I have got the device working now

  • My iphone 4 won't connect to my mac. It says that I need to install the lastest version of itune (11.1) but when I try to update itunes it says that I have the current version 10.6.3. Can someone please help!

    Hi,
My iphone 4 won't connect to my mac book, it says that I need to install to latest version of itunes 11.1. When I go to itunes and try to update, it says that I have the latest version (10.6.3). Can someone please help me!
    thanks

You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac.  No version of  iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs.  I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher.  The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac.  I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Upgraded to iTunes 10.4, error states need to install 64-bit version wasn't installed when connecting iPhone 3G

Any help out there would be appreciated for this odd problem which is very frustrating.  My iPhone was not recognized by iTunes, so I downloaded the newest version 10.4 tonight.  I received the error "This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed.  Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes".  So I uninstalled iTunes, Bonjour, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, and Apple Application Support, then re-downloaded and installed iTunes.  When linking my iPhone I again received this error message.  Is there something I'm missing such as a setting or prefererence?  I thought the newest version of iTunes is a 64-bit version, so I'm really stumped.  I'm also tempted to download a version of iTunes from last year.
    Thanks.

If repairing the AMDS doesn't work, I'm going back to a version from last year.  I don't really want to devote any more time to troubleshooting this, especially since I've spent at least 12 hours on this problem.

  • Even though I have a 64 bit version of iTunes, whenever I connect my iPhone it asks me to install 64 bit version of iTunes

I reinstalled itunes 10.5.3 64 bit version on my Windows 7. When I connect my iPhone it gives me a error message of incorrect version and to uninstall and reinstall with 64 bit version. I have tried this over and over again but this message is not going.
I am not able to connect my iPhones 3GS (32GB) with my laptop. Please help!

That usually indicates that your Apple Mobile Device Support has not installed. That's also what is being shown by the diagnostics (the driver is there but the application isn't).

  • Photoshop elements 13 whont load need to install 64 bits version of elements 13 so how do we install this please

came up with error code this installer does not support installation on a 64 bit windows operating system please download the 64-bit version of photoshop elements

    Download the 64bit installer:
if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

The password being requested is, as for any Mac OS X software update or application installation, the password to your user account in Mac OS X, or the user name and password to an account in Mac OS X that has administrator privileges if your account does not.

  • HT203163 I received an iPad Air for Christmas and tried to sync this device with iTunes on my MacBook Pro (OSX system 10.6.8).  A message popped up that I needed to download the latest version on iTunes in order to be able to sync the two devices.

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes on my MacBook Pro and now when I open iTunes I can not access the iTunes store; however, I can access the Apps store.  I have tried reinstalling iTunes.  I have tried changing the pop up/cookie settings in Firefox and Safari.  I have logged out and also shut down my MacBook.  I have tried changing the Firewall settings on my MacBook.  I have googled possible ways to get the iTunes store to work and nothing has helped so far.  Please help.

It will never automatically update.  You always will ahev to tell it to update.  it will never update unless you tell it to.
The pics and music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchases.  The ipod is not a backup device.
Cop everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)
