Error: There is a problem sending the command to the program in Excel 2010

I'm using Windows 7 and Office Home & Student 2010. This error just started today. The solution in previous versions of Excel is not solving the issue in the 2010 version.

This worked for me.   I was having this error in Excel and Word.  Did not test PowerPoint.  Interesting test though.
Made sure Excel was not running. I went to the EXE properties and I set compatibility mode to Windows7.  I applied the change. Then opened excel via document double click in Windows Explorer.  Worked as expected, problem solved.
THEN...  I closed Excel and made sure it was not running. Cleared Compatibility Mode to it's state before step 1. Applied the change.  Proceeded to double click the document in Windows Explorer and it still works perfectly.
Not only was my Excel problem resolved.  Word now works fine too.  I did not have to modify anything in the Word.EXE properties.
I have no explanation as to why this "fix" worked after returning it to it's previous state or why it resolved the problem with another application.  It must have resolved a different conflict in the OS not just within the application.  I am now
happy, just a little confused.

  • There was a problem sending a command to this program. Excel with new templates.

I have recently deployed these UEV templates for Office 2013.  In particular, I'm having an issue with Excel 2013.  Whenever I let UEV sync settings for this application and I click on a .xlsx file, I get the infamous "There was a problem sending
a command to this program..." error message.  This drove me nuts for a week thinking there was something wrong with Excel.  I finally figured out it was the Excel UEV settings causing the issue.  I've tried deleing the settings package file,
but no luck.  I can reproduce the issue pretty easily.

MS has released hotfix for this issue. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2927019/.

  • Acessing a website using a boomark generates a message "There was a problem sending this command to the program"

Problem only occurs with Firefox - not with Explorer.
If I access the website directly and not through a bookmark, there is no error message.
The website is still accessed properly, but I have to click on 'OK' to get rid of it.
Deleting and reforming the bookmark does not solve the problem.
If I disable the Roboform extension, the problem goes away.

    Hi bob1935-
I did some research and found a couple of previously answered questions that have multiple options for solving your problem. Please look at these:

I hope one of those fixes your issue!

  • After updating Firefox to 10.0.2, when I click on a link in an email, I get an error box saying "There was a problem sending a command to the program".

I have not changed/updated my mail client, Windows Live Mail, so I assume the problem is with the updated Firefox.

    Try:

  • Using Firefox 4 & Windows 7. Everytime I start Firefox from a shortcut to a website it comes up with the following error 'there was a problem sending the command to the program'. The requested website does load after this. with no problems.

If a shortcut is used while Firefox is already open the error does not occur.

As reported in earlier replies, the annoyance disappeared after I upgraded to Roboform 7.5.6, from 7.5.4.

  • When I open Firefox 4 RC1 by clicking an external link (as from my desktop) I get an error: "there was a problem sending the command to the program"

A box with this error: "there was a problem sending the command to the program" always pops up upon clicking any URL sitting in my desktop (or from any other folder). It will not happen if Firefox is already open. However, it is only an annoyance as the page fully opens with no problem.
It started after I downloaded Firefox 4 beta ver 12. It continued after upgraded with RC1. It did not happen in my latest version of Firefox 3.6.x which I removed after installing 4 RC1

This has happened to me many times but on the older FF 3 It could be a small bug, One should list the PC's being used as it could be related? Mine is an E-Machine Mod, W3609 running W7.

The customer is using a hosted environment, server 2008 R2, with excel 2010 as their version of excel.
Question is , is there another workaround or fix for this (permanent fix). THe fixit seems to only untick the option.

There is no other solid solution for this issue by far. However, you can try to following steps to check if it will fix the issue:
    1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
    2. Navigate to:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\shell\Open\ddeexec
    3. Export the ddeexec key for backup purpose. Then right-click on the key and select
    Delete.
Reboot the computer and then check the issue again.
Please let me know the result.

  • Office 2013 preview error - There was a problem sending the command to the program

When I launch excel from a document on my desktop I get the above error. I can launch excel directly and find the document and open it with no problems but not directly from the link

    Hi,
The issue will occur when the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
option has been set in Excel.
In Excel 2013, you can find the option by: File > Options > Advanced > under General section.
Cancel the option and then try opening the links again.

We have purchased the app Environmental Science Buddy and there are presentations that can be viewed but I receive the above mentioned error when trying to play them on our school network. Hello mjswooosh,
I'm very disheartened to hear that you've had ongoing problems when attempting to order from BestBuy.com. Our goal is ever to provide a fun and efficient shopping environment! Certainly creating aggravation serves neither you nor us and I apologize sincerely for this having been your experience.
We recommend the troubleshooting steps you mentioned (i.e., clearing the browser cache, deleting temporary internet files and cookies) because this is the most common cause of this type of problem. I too have encountered this issue from time to time and these steps have almost always resolved the problem. I say almost always because there's one further step you can try: ensure that you have signed out of BestBuy.com, then perform the browser maintenance steps we've recommended. Afterward, before signing in to BestBuy.com, add your desired items to your cart and sign in as part of the checkout process. When the standard steps have not netted a resolution for me, this has solved the problem each time.
I hope this helps. I'm very grateful that you took the time to write to us with your concerns and for sharing your very valuable feedback about your online experience.
    Sincerely,

  • Is there a way to send external commands to a program running via JWS?

Basically, I want a COM object to be able to send a command to my java program launched as a JWS app to minimize/hide windows or quit the program. Is there an API or any way to go about doing this?

    >
Thanks, that does what I am looking for. >You're welcome.
    >
However, if I launch the same jar with a different jnlp, i.e. a jnlp that specifies a different list of properties, those properties do not get set when launching the second jnlp >Huh? Do you mean properties or arguments? The arguments of the app. might get replaced. But as far as I understand, properties are unaffected. But in any case..
    >
..if the jar implements the SingleInstance. is there a way to fix that?>..I think this is a separate problem, for a new thread.
On that new thread, it might be helpful to describe the problem if you can provide an URL to a demo, or better still, a downloadable build file, like the SingleInstanceService example offers*.
One thing to consider is to not implement the SIS, but instead to have each Java app. instance try to connect to a prearranged socket as a client. If it fails, it claims a ServerSocket on that port, ready for any other instances to connect as clients. The first instance then handles all information coming from the COM object and passes it on to the relevant application instance.
A complicating factor in that approach is to ensure that the first instance (with the socket management) does not shut down while other instances are on-screen and will potentially still need access to it.
Of course for that scenario, each Java app. will have a socket for connecting to the manager, but the server app. will need a multi-threaded socket to accept the client(s) and a separate socket for the COM object.

    Hi,
Have you try to un-select the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) setting?
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
Click Advanced, and then click to clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)

  • I continuously get this error: "There was a problem connecting to .mac.  The request timed out"

I don't have a .mac acct - never have had one.  I have moved my Aperture library to an external harddrive - and changed that to the library.  It seems like I started having this problem around that time but I'm not sure.  When I get the error I click "OK" and it goes away, only to re-pop a minute later.  Tried running the reset permissions thing a few times.  The only response I found in the forums was from a couple years ago where they WERE trying to connect to .mac
    Aperture 3.1.2

Strange, I got this error for the first time last night.  I have a 27" iMac (late 2010 model); with latest Aperture.  I recently added a Flickr account (have had a Facebook account on there for some time).  I was uploading some to my flickr account, and noticed that even though the "use actual size" setting was used, it was uploading tiny thumbnails and not the full version.
It was after this, that I got that error.  I haven't tried it again, as I'm now on my macbook at work.  Will try again tonight.
I've also, NEVER had a .mac account, so no possibility of it being a legacy account.

  • Problem sending the command to the program

After updating to version 7.0.1 every time I click on a desktop internet link I get the following error:
"there was a problem sending the command to the program"
The error remains on screen even though I'm taken to the link eventually.
    Please advise

Do you get the message if you open Firefox from the Start Menu or other shortcut?
Do you get the message if Firefox is already running when you click on this shortcut?

  • Unable to Redact or Bates due to Error: There was a problem reading this document (16)

I am using Acrobat Pro X.  I have hundreds of account statements where I need to redact and bates stamp.  Somehow I keep getting this error:  There was a problem reading this document (16)
The files open and print fine.  There is no security settings in the PDF that will disalllow me to do this.  The next thing I checked to see if they were PDF/A but they were not.   Also, I tried Print to PDF but it garbles up the PDF results.  Re-scanning them is not a solution for me given the time it would takeme.
Any idea why I would get this error when the PDFs open, save and print ok?

This means there is an internal error in the PDF files, even if they seem to display OK. Contact the document creator.
