Error trying to configure airport & add network password...

Ok... I have been using my airport for awhile now and decided I wanted to put a password on for my wireless internet. I've gone through the Airport Admin Utility like it says, it recognizes my airport and when I click on Configure, it'll let me put in a password but then tells me "An error occurred while reading the configuration."
I've done the reset 3 times now by pushing the paperclip into the bottom of the airport so the password is reset to "public" and tried adding the network password that way (as well as changing the 'public' password)
But... I still get an error message saying it wasn't able to complete the task. HELP PLEASE!!! It's so very frustrating
I have a macbook pro now but I still have the old airport (wasn't experiencing any problems until now...go figure) it still works great, connects, everything. All I wanted was a password!!

Ah, ok, my mistake there as I got the idea you had a Snow. For the Graphite you can look here to see what the various led sequences and colours mean and here for information about resetting and reloading the Graphite.
I think the lights you are seeing suggest that the Graphite is probably in the correct mode. I think the reason you may be seeing the Green light on the right is because you still have the Graphite connected by ethernet cable to your cable modem.
So, I'm hoping that if you follow the Graphite specific reset and reload instructions referred to above you will have some success. Note that the very important point is that you have to have the Graphite connected to your computer by ethernet cable to do the reload and initial setup using the admin utility, you cannot do it over the wireless interface.
The only thing is that the instructions suggest that you use a crossover ethernet cable or connect through a hub using ordinary cables. If I recall the Graphite was originally supplied with a crossover cable (most, if not all, crossover cables are labelled as such to avoid confusion.) If you do not have one you can buy one at your usual computer store. However, before doing that you could try using an ordinary cable as most (if not all) computers these days are able to adapt to the type of cable being used.
Sorry about the original confusion over which ABS you have, hopefully this will get you going. Let us know if things progress.

  • Keychain won't add network password

I recently changed my airport network password to a 13 char WEP to be compatible with my roommate's PC. I first tried modifing the password in my keychain with no success, so I deleted the password from my keychain with the idea that checking the box "add to keychain" when I logged-in to my network would solve the problem. Well..... it's not being added to my keychain. I've done this at least 20 times (since it kicks me off when the machine sleeps) with no success. I tried adding it manually with no success. Any suggestions?

I will not help but I can offer solace; I had exactly the same problem today (already before upgrading from 10.4.3 -> 10.4.4).
I fiddled around with Airport, upgraded to AE 5.7, tried closed network off and on, automatic and preferred network selection, etc. etc. all to no avail.
The problem is indeed with the keychain. I fiddled around and I was about to re-install the OS when all of sudden between re-boots OS X asked for a password to access the keychain. I think I had moved the login.keychain to a safe place (from ~/library/keychains) and moved it back later.
But now, I have ended up with duplicate keychain entries : system, login and filevaultmaster are all duplicated (except for the X509 Anchors); I tried deleting the keychainaccess list, no success.
    I'll post this observation separately.

  • Problem trying to extend airport express network

I added  brand new airport express to my network, Set it up to be my primary base station, clicked to create an extended network, and now my computer can't see the airport express.  How do I get my computer to see the airport express again?  I've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, I've tried a soft reset , and I've tried a hard reset (Which I can't seem to do because it requires AirPort Utility to be able to see it so I can click the correct option, If I'm understanding the directions correctly).  The message I get is "No configured Airport base stations have been found. AirPort Utility will continue searching."  I am running OS 10.8.4--but I see that none of my devices with Airport Utility can see the airport express.

Thanks for the reply Bob!  OK--I'll never understand what the heck just happened.  All is working again, but through no logical sense that I can make out.  Here it is in a nutshell: Yes, I have two airport expresses, the brand spanking new one and an older gen. 1 version.  I thought I'd try to make the new airport express the primary basestation and use the older airport express as my extended basestation (just seemed easier to move the older one to any socket in the house without any extra wires involved).  When that didn't work and my computers suddenly wouldn't acknowledge the very existence of the new airport express, I reversed the configuration.  After having my old airport express also go AWOL, I was ready to heave it all out the window, but miraculously, my old airport express suddenly popped up in my list of wi-fi networks I could join (even though it still didn't show in the Airport Utility).  I clicked to join, and suddenly the Airport Utility saw it again and allowed me to create a new network from scratch--though for some reason it only wanted to connect using PPPoE.  I couldn't get the option for DHCP, until I plugged my new airport express back in and then voila, not only did my computer finally recognize the new airport, but I had the option to change my setting back to DHCP.  Once I did that, everything worked--not in the configuration I had hoped, but I'm not going to mess with success.

  • AirPort requires Network Password??? help please

hi - i would be really grateful if anyone could help me please.
i have a pc on which i access the internet wirelessly via a Netgear (sky broadband) router.
my young son has been given an ibook (PowerPC G3) Version 10.0.3.
i have purchased an original airport card and installed it under the keypad and in System Prefs > Network > Airport i have selected the Preferred Network (SKY**) but it also requires a Network Password.
I contacted sky and they advised the only password they have is my Network Key (consisting of 8 capital letters) - i have tried this, but it does not work
could anyone please advise me how i can find an AIRPORT NETWORK PASSWORD?
or, alternatively, is there any other way around this problem?
    thanks

If it is WPA, you will need to upgrade your operating system to OS X 10.3 in order to make use of that protocol, as stated in this Apple Knowledge Base article:

  • Where do I find my own Airport Express Network password?

    Hi:
A couple of years ago I set up my Airport Express so's to get wireless access. It's worked flawlessly for all this time. Now I would like to enable one of my friends to access the web through her own laptop, but her machine prompts me for a password when it finds the network.
I don't remember it and, for a non-techy like me, doing anything with my internet settings makes me feel like a bomb disposal officer. I get kind of nervous.
Could someone please point me in the right direction.
    Thanks!

I would open the airport express utility, locate the settings you had previously made when you set up the original wireless network. Then, since you cannot remember your password, reset it, writing it down so that you can use it on your friend's machine. The one big if is do you remember the password for your airport express? (not the network password) If not that would require a complete reset of the airport express and to set it back up. Dont know if that is something you would want to attempt. The manual of the airport express helps, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpressSetupGuide.pdf
    I hope this helps,

I have a WRT54G3G, v.1.1 router. I have used it successfully for ~3 years with mobile Internet (Huawei E800 card). Recently I installed broadband cable network in my place, tried to configure WRT54G3G to work with it and failed…
I tried manual configuration, and I was not able to set it up. I downloaded „Setup Wizard”, and tried all three options:
    a) 3G/UMTS or GPRS
    b) Broadband WAN Only
    c) Broadband WAN and 3G/UMTS or GPRS
Only option a) can be completed successfully. When I try b) or c), I get following message from „Setup Wizard”: „Router not found, Please make sure the router is properly connected and try again.” I am sure I connected all cables as instructed.
When I plug cable network directly to my PC’s Ethernet slot, it is automatically configured, and all is working fine.
Can anyone advise please what to do? Thank you!
    Best regards,
    Jakub
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What is the ip address of your router? It seems like the WRT54G3G is already talking to your modem and is getting the connection properly. Make sure that the WRT is not on the 192.168.1.x segment.

  • Error message when trying to configure airport extremesure wireless device

Airport Utility can't configure my airport extreme. I keep getting error message "error occurred...make sure...connected via ethernet and try again (-6765)". I've tried everything, hard reset, etc. Very frustrated.

Try to "find" and configure the router with ethernet first. Set the wireless configuration and check for telling light. Then disconnect the ethernet, see what happens.

  • Connection timeout error trying to connect to wireless network

    Going nuts...
I have my Time Capsule plugged into an outlet that runs back to my switch (Netgear) which in turn goes into my modem (AT&T uverse).
(the switch runs out to about 6 ethernet outlets in my house)
Everything was working grand until I screwed something up, no idea what, of course!
I have set my Time Capsule set up...
    In the AirPort Utility
    AirPort tab
    Wireless mode:create a wireless network
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Internet tab
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Connection sharing: Off (Bridge mode)
From these settings I can see the wireless network I have set up, but I can't connect to it (get a 'connection timeout' error when trying to connect to the wireless network using my laptop)
When I try to change to Conenction Sharing to: 'share a public IP address' or 'distribute a range of IP address', then I get other errors... (DHCP Beginning and DHCP Ending Address Errors).
Any advice would be great - thanks!

Bridge Mode is the correct setting for your Time Capsule.
To aid in troubleshooting, I suggest that you temporarily move the Time Capsule close to the Uverse router and connect directly to one of the Ethernet ports on that device. Test to see if your wireless is working.
If yes, then move the Time Capsule again and this time temporarily connect to the Ethernet switch to test that way.
Keep working your way outward, testing as  you go. If the wireless works on the first test when you connect directly to the Uverse router, at some point, you will find the connection problem. It's almost always something simple, like an Ethernet cable that is not making a good connection with one of the Ethernet ports.

  • HELP- I am trying ton configure Airport Extreme on a pc

Okay here is the story. My dsl modem went out. They sent me a new modem a Westell 6110 and they had to do something to my line to make the new modem work on my line. Well when I hooked my airport extreme back up, I could not get signal through it.
I have the modem ethernet cable into WAN port, ethernet cable from LAN port on airport to a windows computer. I could not get internet through it. So a friend told me that I needed to manually configure the modem with my ipconfig information so I did that and nothing so after clicking here and clicking there the system would not even recognize the aiport anymore, so I disconnected and hooked the dsl directly into the computer so I could start researching it.
Does anyone know what I can do? I am at the end of the rope and the other end is wrapped around this darn airport and I feel like slinging it.
    Help!!!!!!!!!!anyone

Do you get Internet connectivity if you plug your PC directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Westell modem? Does your DSL provider require PPPoE to be setup for connectivity to their service?
Assuming both are true, then we would need to check the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) settings...before doing so, you should perform a power recycle of the modem and AEBS to allow time for the modem to "recognize" the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL modem & AEBS. (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    Setup the AEBS
Connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, check these settings:
    AirPort tab
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
    - Create a closed network (unchecked)
    - Wireless Security: Not enabled
    - Channel: Automatic
    - Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
    - Account Name: <ISP account name>
    - Change password: <ISP password>
    - Always stay connected (checked)
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (checked)
    - Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)

I did find the logs. Thank you. What should I be searching for in those? I also found 2 .err files. Contents of each are as follows:
    oraInstall2012-08-01_01-23-23PM.err
*"chmod: cannot access `/u01/app/oracle/product/MDM/Siebel_Linux_Image/8.2.2.0/ses/jre': No such file or directory"*
    oraInstall2012-08-01_01-40-07-PM.err
"No checks to execute for entry points. Please check input files"
Can you provide any insight on what I need to do? I would have assumed on install that the jre was installed. Is that not correct?

  • Strange error trying to configure

Found the server, logging in with SSO admin and get this. Any ideas?
    Something failed. Try again.
Command output does not match the expected pattern. Make sure the passed output is from the correct command, and the command completed successfully. Output is:

Probably some problem in the network configuration, although I couldn't figure out why the host command doesn't return anything AND doesn't complain ..
Can you try these as well:
    1) host -v $(hostname -f)
    2) Also check if you have any nameservers configured - you can do this with cat /etc/resolv.conf
Generally, you can cancel the installation and go configure the network settings from the installer. Just press "Cancel" in the wizard, then go to the "VA Settings" tab, there is an interface for network configuration
(you can then continue with the installation by going to "Overview" and pressing "Configure Support Assistant")
    Hope that helps

  • No configured airport base stations have been found

I just purchased a new Time Capsule and tried to set it up according to the included instructions. After the initial set up Airport Utility give the following error message: "No configured AirPort base stations have been found. The only way I can connect to the Internet is wirelessly with a Verizon MiFi wireless modem. Could this be the problem? If so, is there a way to configure the TimeCapsule as a backup only drive?

I think.. you will get nowhere fast using v6 utility.. you must use the older utility.. 5.6.
Apple have so dumbed down v6 as to make it useless.
There are plenty of posts about how to install 5.6 under ML. I don't think it is that hard.
Download the 5.6 dmg.. open the pkg.. then extract the files from the pkg.
There is a free utility to do this.. as well as shareware Pacifist.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Simply load the files manually and then run it..
I am about to try it myself but confess it has not yet happened.
Make sure the TC is different IP range to the main router..
Set static IP in the computer and it must work. By all the TCP/IP I have ever learned it has to be available to the computer.. but I will test myself.

  • How can I add a security password to an Airport extended network?

I have an Airport Extreme network extended with an Airport Express and an older Airport Extreme.  Everything works fine as is.  I want to add a security password to the network but when I do, the two extending base stations appear in Airport Utility with an alert triangle next to them and when I select each of them, it asks if I want to "foget" that device.  I do not want to forget those devices as they are extending the range of the network, I just want a password on the entire network for privacy.  How do I accopliish this while still maintaining the extended network?

Conversely, set the security feature for each of the extending base stations first, then set the security for the main base sation.  The extending base stations will go offline. Then back on once the main base station is configured with the same password as the two extenders.
(Found this on an older post about the same issue.)
