Error Updating iTunes On Windows

Sorry I can't seem to find where to start a new topic...
For the last few months my Dell Studio is asking me to update iTunes/Quicktime but each time I try it gives an error and then backs out of the update. When I connect my iTouch it also tells me I need to update and I get the same issues. Why can't I update any more? It was working fine prior to Sept/Oct.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit system.
I've asked questions here before but never get a reply. For the money I paid for the iTouch they should offer a basic support instead of charging you as soon as the warranty runs out in a few months.
Thanx for any help you can provide.
<Edited by Host>

As close as I can recall the error was;
Error getting file security
Quicktime 7.66.????(not sure exact #'s)
Get last error;5
I tried to unistall Quicktime and all others associated with it (ie, Bonjour, Apple applications, etc)but it would give that same error then stop the uninstall process.
Thanx for the quick reply

I have the same problem as many other users: updated iTunes on Windows 7 on Jan 26, 2014 and iTunes does not open.  First message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 126)". When will Apple fix this? Don’t feel like uninstalling all Apple software and then re-installing it as suggested, as I am on a terribly slow internet connection while travelling in the DR Congo.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I updated iTunes today (Windows).  I restarted the computer but when I tried to launch, I get the message, ""The procedure entry point AVCFURLAssetInheritURIQueryComponentFromReferencingURIKey could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll".
I then did a new install of the latest iTunes version and got the same problem.   No more iTunes.
    HELP!!!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I am trying to update Itunes in Windows XP but after going through the the installation process I am getting a message saying "The Older Version Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support". What do I do???

"The Older Version Update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support".
Doublechecking before proceeding. Is it saying the older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed, or some other program? (Several different program names can be mentioned in this context.)

  • Cannot update itunes in windows XP

Cannot update itunes in windows XP, a message appears about a installation file not available

    perfect, thanks.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • TS1609 Error when installing or updating iTunes on Windows 8

When I try to install or update iTunes, I receive a message to the effect that there has been a failure to install property. It is suggested that I verify that I have sufficient privileges to start system services??? I have full administrative privileges of my system. McAfee is not installed.
I've uninstalled and attempted to reinstall the latest version of iTunes several times with the same results. This all began with a simple attempt to update to version 11.0.3.42.
Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Trying to update itunes on windows

I am trying to update itunes on my windows pc ready for getting the new iphone. It will not install the update just says an error has occurred. Will i be able to use the new iphone 4s on the old software? What will happen if i uninstall itunes then reinstall again to get the new version? will all my contenet be lost?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Error Updating itunes

When trying to update iTunes from 7.02 to 8 I keep getting an error message: Could not access network location iTunes\.
I get this same error when trying to remove iTunes as well. I have updated everything I can on Windows xp as well as followed all the trouble shooting options that apple provides.
Can anyone out there help. Thank you.

    For emrhenter
When you get this kind of message about not being able to access a network location, it usually means you need to do an installer cleanup with the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility.
I have given a method for full removal of iTunes and related programs with cleanup, but you might get away with just doing the iTunes bits.
    == uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • Update itunes on Windows XP computer

I keep getting the error message when trying to install update to my Windows XP computer get error message about privileges and Apple mobile device failed to start  won't retry or ignore

    Follow this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
In order like it tells you to.. and if it appears that the apple mobile device support does not uninstall or goes backwards just ignore it and move on thru the list in order.
Once you are done uninstalling all five components.. restart your computer
Once the computer comes back on and is fully up and started go to www.apple.com/itunes and redownload itunes and install it.
    This should resolve your issue!
If you want to try to avoid all that you can try this it worked for me.. close out all itunes files.. type in services and wait for it to come up.. click on services find the apple mobile device support and stop the service.. then go download itunes again and install it.. worked for me but I'm on windows 7 home premium.
    Good luck!
