Error updating software wont boot up

So i have the latest macbook pro and i had a little extra time in my hands before i had to go to work so i decided to check my mac for software updates and their were some updates so i decided to updated it and it was downloading the stuff and after that it restarted im guessing so the items could install. everything was going smoothly untill it began to boot up it went to the gray screen with the gray apple logo and the loading bar under that after the loading bar was full the screen would go blank and it beeps 9 times then it turns of and restarts again and does the same thing!! this is getting very frustrating. my college final is in this macbook and i  need a solution to it asap! please help im in desperate need!

Life would be so good if everyone that owned a computer also owned and used an external backup hard drive. You would never run into this kind of problem that could not be solved by simply going back to a recent, good backup.
But since yo don't have a backup, the next best thing to do is to Archive and Install from your original install DVD set. This will not delete any data on your drive. It will simply add a new, clean OS and you should be back in business since it appears that the update you did is what caused the problem. You will then have to update your OS up to the update version just BEFORE the one you just installed that is causing you grief.
Do yourself a favor and invest $100 in an external HD in an enclosure and do a daily clone backup of your drive and you will never have to run into this problem or many other kinds of problem again. Otherwise it is just a matter of time until you have another drive failure, hardware or software, of one kind or another that puts you out of business.

Just bought a Macbook air. I tried to update software after 2 hours downloading time and two tries get an error message.
What can I do? return the device?
    Thank you

Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent software updates from downloading.
Same for third party download managers.
Some security software such as Virus Barrier even though temporarily disabled can still prevent software from updating successfully.

    Hi,
*"The underlying task reported failure on exit."*
Try and repair disk the disk.
Insert the installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
--- While you have the Disk Utility window open, look toward the bottom of that window. You will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 10% free disk space, 15% is better.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode

  • Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7901 Bios update Pc wont boot

I recently downloaded a bios file for my laptop form the support site to reinstall my bios, i made a boot disk from the image and restarted my PC, the bios screen opened and appeared to be working, but my PC shut down during the process and now when I hit the power button the sceen doesn't turn on but the CPU fan and indicator lite will turn on, also i attempted to put the bios image disk in after this to see if it might run even tho the bios appear to be damaged since it acts like it reads from the rom, but no luck. Any suggestions would be great I love my satellite and would hate for the bios to be such an issue.

Try taking the battery out and disconnecting the power from it.
Then hit the pwer button to make sure the capacitors are discharged.
Then reconnect the power and battery and see if it will post.  I have seen that work on a few occasions.

Try changing the "Java command line" in the FlexPMD preferences to change the location of the temp folder to somewhere FlashBuilder has permissions... This can be done by including the -Djava.io.tmpdir="
    C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\Application Data\Temp" or a similar directory.

  • New 2011 Imac out of box, updated software now wont boot up? Ive had this machine for 24 hours!

Brand new out of box Imac 27" Booted up ok. Downloaded/updated software and prompted restart and now no screen? Makes the boot up noise but screen remains black? Any ideas or others with similar problem? Very dissapointed in product considering Im replacing my older Imac of 3.5yrs (out of warranty) with faulty hard drive.

Unplug it. Wait 2 minutes (don't rush it). Plug it back in. Power it up. Have patience during the first startup.
If the computer hasn't booted to the desktop (or the login screen if you have auto login disabled) within 5 minutes, considering that it's brand-new-out-of-the-box, call Apple and schedule a repair appointment at your nearest Apple Store.
I know it's annoying that you might have a lemon, but it does happen - don't give up on Mac because you got the one bad Apple.

  • Itunes wont open after updated software last night

iTunes wont open up on my Mac after I updated software last night

    Hey there Nedswan,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after it updated recently. I would check for 3rd party plugins that may have lost compatibility when the software was updated first:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3430
you can disable any third-party plug-ins by opening iTunes in Safe Mode:
    OS X: Hold down Option-Command.
You should see this message before iTunes starts up: "iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
Note: This is different than Safe Boot or Safe Mode for Mac OS X. You may need to test both at the same time to isolate all third-party interference.
Click Continue and see if any issues persist. If your issues are resolved with iTunes running in Safe Mode, check the following:
Consult the vendor of any plug-ins you installed to see if they're compatible with your version of iTunes and check for any updates that may be available.
Close iTunes and move third-party add-ons to the Desktop to troubleshoot the behavior. iTunes stores these plug-ins and scripts in these locations:
    Mac: /Users/username/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins/
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins/
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
