Why can't I update to Mavericks from 10.6.8 on a Mac Pro Desktop Early 2008. It meets all requirements listed by Apple.

I'm having the same issue with same error message "OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer". I click the "INSTALL" button in the app store and I get the message.
I have a macbook pro 15 inch, 60 GB of free space, 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 GB of Ram (well really 4 but it can't see the 1 extra gig). Mac OS X version 10.7.5.   I read the install description and I meet the requirement.
I have checked Launchpad for a stalled install (all 3 pages) and have checked if I have a time machine backup file on my root directory. No, I don't.

  • After updating to Mavericks from Snow Leopard, everything works except iPhoto. If I buy the current version of iPhoto for $15, will it work on Mavericks?

After updating to Mavericks from Snow Leopard, everything works BUT all my photos were lost. If I buy the current version of iPhoto for $15, will it run on Mavericks?

If you have iPhoto from iLife '11, then I would first install it on your computer. In that way you would be able to get the new iPhoto free since you are running Mavericks.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.

  • Update to Mavericks from lion

On my lion OS, i have VMware fusion, MSoffice etc all setup.
As you all know that Mavericks is available for free download. If I update the OS from lion, Do  I need to install those softwares again.
    Or
Just the OS will be updated without effecting the apps and softwares installed like the upgrades in iphones/ipads

Mavericks is a free download only for beta testers, not the general public.
When it is announced formally that it is available to all (may be today, may not be today), the upgrade paths will be explicit.  It will also be a paid upgrade, not free.
So the news came out just minutes ago that it will be free - check the website in a little while for updates on system requirements to upgrade.
And yes, as long as you have the minimum pre-existing OS X version, an upgrade (like any upgrade) should only update the operating system and not touch 3rd party apps or user documents.

  • Should i update to mavericks from 10.6.8

Hello I have a IMAC which has the 10.6.8 OS.  I would like to update to maverick but do i need a lower OS version before i move to mavricks?  thanks

    Hi jesusfromtempe,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
As long as the Apple computer you are using meets the OS X 10.9 Mavericks system requirements you will be able to upgrade directly from 10.6 to 10.9. The article attached outlines the system requirements.

  • Is Mac Installer 1.0 needed for update to Mavericks from 10.8.6 Snow Leopard?

Somehow I got a notice that I could update directly to Mavewricks for free from my current 10.6.8. I have no memory of how I got the notice. About the same time I got a download for Mac Installer 1.0 which I never asked for and never came through System Update . . . it was just there among my downloads. At first I thoght that the Mac Installer was necessary somehow beforehand for the Mavericks upgrade. Now I am very suspicious, given what I have been able to turn up about the Mac Installer and its association with malware. Can anybody shed soe light?

There is an Apple Software Installer Update 1.0 which probably should be installed. http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1512
If there is something else, then I would just trash it.

  • Error updating data source from SQL Server ODBC into SQL Native Client 10.0

I am converting Crystal 8.5 reports into Crystal XI release 2. The data source was ODBC using SQL Server 2000 and pointing to a stored procedure. In the new server the data source has to be ODBC again, but it uses the SQL Native Client 10.0 Driver, because the new server is SQL Server 2008. I have copied the same old stored procedure on the new server and it works fine as a data source to a brand new Crystal XI report. But when I am opening an existing 8.5 version crystal report and updating the data source to the new location I get the error message "Some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source".
I thought I could tackle this error by creating a temporary data source using the standard ODBC SQL Driver linked to the SQL 2008 Server instead of the SQL Native Client 10 ODBC. So I first updated the crystal data source to link to this temp ODBC using SQL Driver and it worked fine. But after that, when I try to update the data source to link to the SQL Native Client 10 ODBC, I get the same error again.
So I guess that the problem is not the new server itself, but the switch between SQL Server ODBC and SQL Native Client 10 ODBC.
Does anyone know what's going on with this SQL Native Client 10 in updating crystal report data sources?

CR XI does not support that driver. Try selecting the Native driver or upgrade to CR XI R2 for free and use SP4, 5 and 6 and then FP 6.4 or upgrade to CR 2008 and SP 3 and Fix Pack 3.3
    Thank you
    Don

  • How can I update to Mavericks from 10.7.5?

I am running 10.7.5 on an iMac 3.06 Intel. I have downloaded the dmg for 10.9.5 (from three different locations), and the install won't proceed. It stops and I get a message that says I need 10.9 before I can install. I would rather not try Yosemite just yet, because I'm reading scary things. Not even sure I'd be able to do Yosemite either-
    Thanks in advance!

Unless you downloaded the full Mavericks installer from the Mac App Store before Yosemite came out, it's no longer available. The updaters you found aren't it.
    Your Mac can run Yosemite.

  • Can i just upgrade to the OS X Mavericks from a 10.6.8 Snow leopard?

wondering if i need to upgrade to mountain lion first or I can just jump straight to Mavericks?
Plus, will any data be lost?

    Mhavhic wrote:

No you don't. You can update to Mavericks from 10.6.8 via the App Store.
And your data should not be lost. But it is always recommend that you backup your data using Time Machine before running the update, just be safe.

  • Updating to Mavericks with old Aperture

Im planning on updating to Mavericks from Snow Leopard and are currently using an old version of aperture (2.1.4) as my primary photo app with all photos stored in the aperture library as .appprojects). However Im worried that when I update the os it will no longer recognise this older aperture format and as Im not planning on updating to the newest aperture I dont want to lose all my photos.
I tryed exporting (within aperture) all projects to a desktop folder as jpg so when I update they're in a common file that can be recognised by any photo app but for some reason it doesnt export them all and in some projects it leaves more than half the photos in a project not exported (I have a mixture of raw and jpg if that makes any difference?).
Whats the best way to make sure I dont lose photos when I update?
    Thanks, Mark.

If you upgrade to Mavericks and upgrade to Aperture 3.5.1 it will recognize and upgrade your library. You should have a current up-to-date backup (personally, I'd have a vault, AND a full backup on another drive).
Aperture 2.1.4 "sorta" runs on Mavericks. Some functionality (like the loupe) is broken and it's unsupported so it will never be fixed. Aperture 3 shipped a full 4 years ago now, so Aperture 2.1.4 is long gone from a support perspective.
Exporting projects to a folder, etc., is the wrong way to go about it. You'll lose metadata about your photos, projects, and all that.

  • Do I have airplay if I skipped downloading ML and went right to Mavericks from Lion?

I just updated to Mavericks from Lion having not downloaded Mountain Lion. Do I have airplay or did I miss this by not downloading Mountain Lion and going straight to Mavericks?

Airplay Mirroring? You need an early 2011 or newer Macbook Pro.

  • After installing the latest update for Mavericks and restarting, my Mac just displays the Apple logo and the spinning wheel. What can I do to fix this?

I installed the latest update of Mavericks from the App Store today and after restarting my system it doesn't go beyond the Apple logo and the spinning wheel. I tried resetting the NVRAM but it still has the same problem.
