Error Upgrading RAC 10.2.0.3 on Windows 32bit

Hey all,
I was in the processes of upgrading a 3 node RAC running on Windows 2003 Server and had a bit of an issue:
First, the Clusterware upgrade worked fine (no thanks to the patch instructions but anyway)
Second, I verified the entire RAC still worked with the new Clusterware by rebooting everything. All looked well.
Third, I started the instrcutions to actually patch the RAC instances and database.
- stopped the services as per the README
- stopped ASM, nodeapps, etc...
(basically everyhting was down on each node)
- launched the OUI on one of the RAC nodes
- chose the Oracle Home
- The OUI autoselected all of my RAC nodes for patching (which is OK - thats what I wanted)
- It started to deploy the files abd at 80% or so, it said "certain files are in use by a service..."
At this point, I verified that NO Oracle services were running (unless you count the OUI Java process).
Attempted to hit "Retry" (I know...I know...) and that didn't work.
Other patches have worked pretty well, this is a first for me.
So....any thoughts? Is it possibly something in Windows that I need to shut down?
Any help would be great.
Thanks

Why dont you run Process Explorer and see which process is accessing your oracle files?
You can get it from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Once i had this problem while upgrading on NT and OUI threw error asthe files are being used and later found that some product from CA to scan the machine was keeping one of the oracle file. Killed that CA stuff and resumed the upgradation.

JJ

    iTunes won't upgrade to10.5. I'm on 10.1.17.
When installing 10.5 it terminates with an error message "There is a problem with the Windows  installer package. Contact the package vendor".
It does not provide an error code or details/description to further troubleshoot. As a result I can't upgrade my Apple devices to leverage the cloud.
Any smarts out there who could help?
Using PC Win-7 w/IE 7 (should that matter)
    Thanks much

I know there's a million threads like this, but I thought I'd record my experience.  I, too, was having the original poster's error when I tried to update iTunes on Windows XP.  I think I was stuck on 10.
I solved it by un-installing iTunes and every other Apple app.  I discovered that Apple Software Update would not un-install as its MSI file could not be found.  I used the "Windows Install Cleanup" tool from Microsoft to remove Apple Software Update from the list of installed programs.  Google "kb290301" for a Microsoft page that includes a download link for it.  After that, I was able to install a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5.2.
I'm not sure why this app's folder and MSI were missing from my computer.  I had once used Laplink PC Mover to move everything from my old computer to this one, and perhaps it missed a bit.

2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033 (both on the mac/windows partitions (actually using a parallel to run Windows)), error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Windows
So the question is am I doing something wrong? Should I just try and install windows 8 through my windows 7 partition and see if I can use the bootcamp 5.05033. Or do I solely have to use the bootcamp to install Windows 8? I'm not too familiar with bootcamp and how it runs.

if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
which it is not when it's in bootcamp

  • Questions in upgrade RAC from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2

I am new in installing RAC and need help in upgrade RAC from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2.
We have a 3 node RAC of 11.2.0.1 on refhat 5.2, and are planing to upgrade to 11.2.0.2. We are doing out-of-place upgrade. For our single instance DEV environment, it works pretty well that we install 11.2.0.2 and copy data from the old database, and then shutdown the old one.
On the production RAC, I hope to install 11.2.0.2 on one node, and let it join the RAC with the other two nodes. Then do th same to the 2nd and 3rd node. I have the following questions.
    1) For Out-of Place upgrade, should I just follow normal installation to install grid infrastructure and then the RAC?
    2) In selecting Installation type should I choose Create and COnfigure database, or Upgrade an Existing Database?
    3) What should I do with the ASM? I want to use the existing ASM.
    4) Can I out-of place upgrade one node, and make it join the RAC, and then roll to another node, or I have to install 11.2.0.2 on all 3 nodes and configure a new RAC to replace the old RAC.
    5) What should I do with ocr and voting disks?
    Thanks

    1) For Out-of Place upgrade, should I just follow normal installation to install grid infrastructure and then the RAC?Yes, You need to build RAC environment
    2) In selecting Installation type should I choose Create and COnfigure database, or Upgrade an Existing Database?Upgrade existing database.

    5) What should I do with ocr and voting disks?at the time of cluster installtion you need to configure , later you need to register database before upgrade.

Want to upgrade RAC 10.2.0.2 database (2 instances) to 10.2.0.5. DB size is 4 TB. Contains mostly .pdf files, reports. I do not have test/upgrade environment. How much time I can expect it will take?
How much the upgrade process depends of database size, in this case?
    I have fast boxes  IBM AIX 5.3 , 64 b.

    Appreciate your comments ...
Yes, sound stupid, regarding test environment, but in reality, is not that much:
-I do have "preprod" environment, (2 instances RAC) same releases of OS, OCW,RAC ... but DB size is 40 GB!!!  It has all the objects as production, but (again but) it does not have physical standby, as production has. This is not that unusual, knowing that production DB grows very fast, and very large, and business do not want to keep preprod, dev, test databases same HUGE size as production is. Savings ...
-My DB upgrade depends if application  running on top of it is certified for higher RDBMS release ... looks like they have some problems.
-Very encouraging sounds comment that DB upgrade does not depend that much of the DB size ...
    - i do not recall from where this info came, but I have heard that R 11.* treats PDF files in different way that R10 did it ... and because of that, process of upgrading big databases which have many items of that type (pdf) can take very long. Any idea about this?
-Brian, thx ... I'm trying hard to provide DB simmilar size in UPG environment and face all possible pitfalls before I go in production...thx for youe advice. I'm relly interested in how upgrade to 11.* from 10.* traets my pdf-s ... All my TBs comming from pdfs. Everi advice will be wellcome ...

  • Shared server error in RAC ?

_I changed my RAC database from dedicated to shared server . Then I changed client tnsnames.ora to meet shared server and tried to connect  . It worked fine and I could do my job as normal.
But when I connected as sysdba and used (select server from v$session) to verify , there were 1 session NONE and no session SHARED . I tried to connect 5 more session from clients and there were 5 more NONE .
Then I used (select circuit, dispatcher from v$circuit) and there were exact 6 circuits.
_Is this an error in RAC ? Did I fail to convert from dedicated to shared server ?Please help.
    My system : RAC10g , OracleEnterpriseLinux5

_This is my tnsnames.ora in client
    HTI =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (LOAD_BALANCE=yes)
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dataht1-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = dataht2-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = SHARED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = HTI)
_Clients can connect and work as normal with this tnsnames.ora . But when I try to find out how many sessions are in SHARED mode using (select server from v$session) there is 0 SHARED session althought there are about 20 client connections with the tnsnames.ora . There are 2 type of session when I use (select server from v$session) : NONE and DEDICATED . The more clients connect with the tnsnames , the more NONE sessions are created and no more DEDICATED sessions are created.
_I really don't understand what NONE means !

I believe you are getting the error in Step No 6 . For the corresponding already existing Work repository you would need to provide the new database so that UA can use that to copy the settings .

A user meet the above problem connecting to Windows 2003 server but have no this error if connected to Windows 2000 Server.
According to the above solution, will you configure Windows 2003 server or just configure user's Macintosh platform?

Actually, win2003 server's default security options are shown as follows.
    1. MS network client: Digitally sign communications (always) - Disabled
    2. MS network client: Digitally sign communications (if server agrees) - Enabled
    3. MS network server: Digitally sign communications (always) - Disabled
    4. MS network server: Digitally sign communications (if client agrees) - Disabled
We could both be right on this one; it depends on your setup. By default, if you're running a domain then the Domain Controller is:
*Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) Policy Setting: not defined*
That defaults to the Group Policy setting, which is enabled.
The local computer group policy for Windows Server 2003 is:
*Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) Security Setting: disabled*
I'm referencing this KB article on Microsoft's website: <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887429>.
This does not take into consideration that you may have upgraded from Windows 2000 Server to Windows Server 2003.
Regardless, you seem to have already eliminated this as a possibility as you mention below.
In my case, user can connect to win2003 server without problem in the same LAN 192.168.8.x. If connect it from remote lan 192.168.10.x (e.g. smb://192.168.8.250/artwork) error -36 will appear. Since remote lan is connected to local lan by secured VPN, all traffic or any ports are allowed to passe through VPN.
Rather than a server or client problem I would speculate your VPN connection is the problem. Do you have port TCP 445 open or blocked at your VPN concentrator? I believe this needs to be open.
    Hope this helps!
