Error usb

Hi I bought an iMac 21.5 ". I am a windows pc user forever. I decided to buy an iMac after years I had heard of and why I was fascinated by the world mac, obviously I have not done before for obvious economic reasons. the problem I most assillvava pear was the "compatibility" with microsoft systems. In fact I have these problems: I have an external HD LogiLink 3.5 "sata and usb. My apple does not see them, of course, are formatted in NTFS. In addition, some files Word files saved in the USB key are empty: they have the size of 0 kb quibdi and once opened there is a blank sheet of paper, I have basically lost all the data, not a bad start. What can I do? Thank you.

Hi Alex, sorry to hear the sour start you're getting.

  • Input/Output Error USB 2.0 External Hard Drive

    I recently started having problems with an external hard drive setup that I did not have prior to trying to setup the drive to be compatible with Time Machine.
    The hard drive enclosure that I have has 2 bays for two SATA drives. I have used this enclosure without any problems until I tried to get 1 drive to act as the backup drive for Time Machine and the other to be storage. I formatted them using Drive Genius. I used the option for GUILD or GUIL which it said was the better format for using with Time Machine.
    The first problem I ran into since reformatting the drives is I got an "input/output" error the first couple times I connected the drive via USB to my Mac. I could still use the drives but I got weird errors every once in a while like "input/output error" or "device was not ejected properly" even though the device had not been unplugged.
    Now the drives will not mount using OS 10.5.5. The drives show up when I open Disk Utility, but I cannot get them to mount. I have ran Disk Utility First Aid, and it says the drives are fine. There is one error that shows up when I run the "Repair Disk" feature. It reads "Invalid content in Journal". But Disk Utility also says "The volume was repaired successfully".
    I have seen some posts when I do a search in google about this issue and it seems this is a known issue. Every suggestion I see says to insert your Tiger DVD and reformat the drive using that and the problem will be solved. The only problem with that is I have a lot of important files on the drive that I cannot lose. I had the files backed up until I moved them to the new drive a while back. Now I do not have a backup because I was in the process of switching to bigger drives and erased the old drives after doing so because everything was working fine.
    I am hoping someone out there may have some suggestions (other than erasing the drive) to get my dives to mount so I can transfer the data off to another drive and reformat after.
    Thanks,
    Paul Rugg

    I have similar problems with my USB external HD. Reformatting or repartitioning will not solve your problem. I've tried that 2 times already. The problem will reappear. My HD was running great until last month, when it suddenly without warning disappears from disk utility and the mac altogether. It not only dismounts itself, but also ejects itself, while still physically connected and the power is still on. The HD has its own power supply of course and is directly connected to one of the iMac USB ports. I have erased, repartitioned, disk verified, rebuild spotlight indexes, cleared PRAM and NVRAM, but nothing has solved the problem.
    It is application independent, and not related to like iTunes as another post had suggested. Nothing to do with Mac applications. It seems to be USB related.
    Messages in the Console seem to indicate something wrong with 'USB transactions passed their expiration point' and 'USB cannot enumerate something', but these statements are a bit cryptic to me. Perhaps an Apple system engineer can someday shed some light here.
    thanks much for any assistance.

  • [solved]udev boot error - usb keyboard wont work in recovery shell

    i just hooked up an external drive for the first time to this system, i didnt do anything to it yet, except i went to run gdisk and realized it wasnt installed yet.  So i ran
    pacman -Syu gdisk
    from an SSh terminal, then when it was updating a package, cant exactly remember which one but i hitnk it was either kernel or udev, the ssh termilal appeared to disconnect becuause it lost its output.
    then i opened another terminal sshed in, and was able to run pacman -Syu again, which means the first update did finish, or the lockfile wouldnt have let me update a 2nd time i would think.  (note, the newly external hard drive was connected during all these events).  Something wierd happened here.It had files that needed updating, which i thought that would be rare since i just updated, unless it simply didnt finish, and the lockfile wasnt in place or something, then it finished updating successfully, and i was still remoted into a working SSH command line (i.e. didnt get kicked out this time).
    Now is where the fun begins.  i typed 'reboot', and the system appeared to reboot, but i wasnt able to shell in this time.  i connected the monitor to the system almost a minute later, and realized it was still shutting down, then when it rebooted i get an error message.
    running early hook [udev]
    Warning lib/modules/3.12.8-1-ARCH/modules.devname not found - ignoring
    runnign hook [udev]
    tiggering events
    Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/sda2
    ERROR: device /dev/sda2 not found Skipping fsck
    Error unable to find root device /dev/sda2
    your being dropped to recovery shell
    [rootfs /]#
    NOW THE KEYBOARD DOESNT WORK, it only works in bios.  It stops functioning (the numlock light)  as soon as udev starts to initiate, which leaves me with no way to try to reupdate udev and the kernel again to see if i can fix it.
    all i could think of was to disconnect the external drive, that didnt help.  then i tried checking the USB settings in bios for any legacy options, it doesnt have them (Dell Optiplex), so i just made sure the USB boot was off and all ports enabled.
    Now im totally stuck short of a recovery disk.
    any suggestions how i can just get the keyboard working and chroot into arch and update some package to fix it without having to jump through hoops to make a recovery disk while here at work with limited resources?

    ok i found what happened, so far.
    looking in /var/log/pacman.log i see a gap in the installs, a 2 minute gap, which is the time i rebooted and reran the install.
    at 9:25..  i was running an upgrade, and the last one in the minute of 9:25 is
    9:25[PACMAN] upgraded linux-firmware (20131013.7d0c7a8-1 -> 20131230.52d77db-1)
    this is where the shell got disconnected therefore i wasnt able to see what happened after this.
    the the log continues at 9:27 minute, has to be when i rebooted and shelled back in and reran the upgrade, the log starts with
    9:27[PACMAN] upgraded linux (3.12.6-1 -> 3.12.8-1)
    so it appears that the shell got disconnected as it was upgrading linux-firmware (20131013.7d0c7a8-1 -> 20131230.52d77db-1)  .
    This begs the questions; Did the SSH shell get disconnected simply because the system was using those resources at the time?  i assume this.  the next question is, was it wrong to be upgrading via remote SSH shell then?  Or whats likely that happened here?

  • Wacky error: USB headphone sound crackles in everything BUT mpd.

    Here's a weird error for you all. Though it hasn't come from any recent upgrade or anything I've noticed that the sound output of my 3.5 mm --> USB adapter crackles consistently at a volume loud enough to be annoying, and the odd thing is that this doesn't happen while listening to music through MPD.
    A script runs at start-up to check if the headphones are plugged in, and switches out the ~/.asoundrc's accordingly.
    Script:
    #!/bin/bash
    if [ -e /proc/asound/Device ]; then
    cp -f ~/.asoundrc.usb .asoundrc
    else
    cp -f ~/.asoundrc.builtin .asoundrc
    fi
    .asoundrc.usb:
    pcm.builtin { type hw; card NVidia; }
    ctl.builtin { type hw; card NVidia; }
    pcm.usb { type hw; card Device; }
    ctl.usb { type hw; card Device; }
    pcm.!default pcm.usb
    ctl.!default ctl.usb
    And for good measure, the relevant mpd.conf parts:
    port "6600"
    gapless_mp3_playback "yes"
    audio_output {
    type "alsa"
    device "default"
    name "ALSA"
    mixer_type "alsa"'
    mixer_device "default"
    mixer_control "PCM"
    Though they play through my speakers, the ALSA test sounds don't play through my headphones, citing the "Non channel count" error. I'm guessing this is just because it doesn't like to play sounds in Mono.
    And to narrow things down a bit more, I'm using mpd 0.14.2-1 because the new version (mpd 0.15.1-1) does crackle, and I assume it's because upgrading the package requires me to install libmikmod, libmms, and libmodplug. Sorry for any weird parts, English is not my first language. Hope that's enough information!

    In fact, a few minutes after I posted this I found a solution by looking through the error log myself. Apparently every time it was a certain 'Hear' Plug-in that caused the crash. So I simply deleted this specific plug-in from the audio folder in the library and it worked!
    @ Dstrb: Your comment would've made me find out, if I hadn't done so before. Thanks!

  • Photsmart C309 and error USB Disk Unreadable, please disconnect USB

    Since upgrading to Mac OSX 10.9.1, I get an error message on my computer screen that the disk I connected to can not be read.  On the printer window is a message remove USB device.
    I can actually scan a document and see it on my computer screen, but if I try to save the document and open it later or preview the document or send the document, it is just lines on a page not what I scanned.
    I have looked for new drivers.  I have removed and readded the all-in-one.  I have tried a different USB cable.
    Are the two incompatible?

    Hi CaroWA,
    I understand you have a Photosmart C309 and that is having issues working with your 10.9 Mac. I'm sorry to hear this has been happening, but I will certainly do my best to assist you.
    When you upgraded to 10.9 did you do anything with your HP software, or is it the same software you had with your prior operating system? If it's the same software as before, that could be why you're experiencing issues. For the Photosmart C309 there is no HP software at this time, so you would have to uninstall any HP software and then reinstall the printer via the Apple Updates.
    Hope this helps, have a great weekend!!

  • Error: USB Headset not recognized

    HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC  WV703AV
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium - 64bytes
    Error: No error... just not working
    Hello, I just bought an USB headset SOMIC and after plugging it to the PC I realize it wasn't working. At the beginning I got mad thinking that it was about the headset, however after testing it in several computers with different Operative Systems(windows 7 x64, windows XP x32 & x64) I realize that actually they worked perfectly... so whats is coming on with my PC? - I thought.
    I tried by doing the following:
        1st - Changing it of USB Port - I tried the 4 of them.
        2nd - Updating the sound Drivers.
        3rd - Installing the Headset's drivers.
        4th - Downloading & Reinstalling the sound drivers.
        5th - Disabling the computers drivers in order to only use the headset's drivers.
    I am getting so angry that I am planning to reinstall my OS, however before doing it I would like to know if you could help me in this matter . It is clear that it is ABOUT THE USB CONDITION OF THE HEADSET as I have others with normal connectors and they work perfectly. Moreover, I JUST REALIZE that AUDIO BEATS monitor the sound settings and it has NO USB CONNECTOR COMPATIBILITY (only HDMI or NORMAL MALE CONNECTORS).
    So I tried disabling/uninstalling HP BEATS however it doesn't appear anywhere. Now I dont know what can I do to sort out this issue I am having please help me before I burned my PC . Pleasee I really need your help.
    I look forward to hearing from you, thanks in advance.
    Santiago.

    I too have this problem. Bump.

  • Bios Error/USB error Lenovo N100 3000

    Hey Guys,
    Seems I'm just having bad luck with computers this week.  I have a Lenovo 3000 N100 Series Laptop that I believe did a rollback on the original BIOS version.   I've tried to find the error/solution online to no avail but here goes.
    The computer currently only starts up and performs a self test and states the following error
    Keyboard Initialized....
    Mouse failed to Initialize...
    Error 0701: USB Over Current On HC/Port - Bus:00H Dev :1DH Fun:01H / Port:00H
    Error 0701: USB Over Current On HC/Port - Bus:00H Dev :1DH Fun:02H / Port:00H
    Press F1 For Setup, Press F12 For Boot Device Selection Menu
    Well, F1 takes me into the Bios, all looks well. It says to enter System Settings press F1 and you can review the bios/boot sequence etc. And F12 Does nothing.
    The current BIOS (63ET62WW) should be on Version 3.11 for Windows Vista Home Edition but currently only shows the original 1.08 version.
    I am also unable to enter my startup recovery "program" via the Lenovo Care partition to just do a system recover or repair.  I don't even have the options to start up in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known good Configuration, or  Start windows normally.
    What I speculate is that I should be able to "flash" the bios (i know very little about computers and am worried i might kill the system).  Unfortunately Lenovo's website has an executable file that is the Bios Update Utility that runs in windows.  Obviously since I can't get to the desktop this program is rendered useless.  I looked around the net to see if I could extract the files and put them on a boot cd.  (Don't know if thats even possible)  Another thing to note is there are alot of files that I extracted and am unsure which are essential vs. only for the update utility tool.
    This is the link for my specific device as something to reference
    [code]http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-67008.html[/code]
    On the website the most recent Version of the bios 3.12 is for XP only just as a heads up so i scrolled to the bottom to see previous bios updates...
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    My message says after booting:
    Mouse initialized.
    ERROR
    0701: USB Over Current On HC/Port - Bus:00H Dev: 1DH Fun:01H / Port:00H
    ERROR
    0701: USB Over Current On HC/Port - Bus:00H Dev: 1DH Fun:02H / Port:00H
    Press F1 for setup (which works and takes me to Bios version 1.08
    Press F12 for boot devices (nothing happens)
    Also pressing the Lenovo button does not work.
    I had a tamper virus which took a hold of my computer and applications. I tried to do a restore from the Lenovo Care and this is the message I now get. I may have had a USB pen drive plugged in when this re-store took place.
    I've tried booting from the XP windows disc but the cd drive doesn't kick all the way in.
    How can I get my computer back????
    Plse help

  • MacBook error "USB Port has drawn too much power"

    Hi,
         I recently found a external hard drive and accidentally forgot to switch the volt down on my power brick, and ended up with 24 volts charging up to my white macbook 2008. It immediately shut down and i could smell some smoke coming from the usb port where i plugged in my ext. HD. I pulled it out immediately and it saw no physical damage to the port. When i turned it on, i got this message
    " To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may have also been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again."
         I restarted my laptop again hoping it would go away but it kept popping up every time. I plugged in a mouse and it didn't turn on, so i plugged it in to the other usb port and it blinked for a moment and turned off, which i presumed it was being disabled. I did SMC my laptop but that didn't work and i could faintly distinct the smell from my usb port still. Did my USB port get burnt? How to i re-enable my USB port?

    No, my apple charger came with my Macbook, the switchable power brick was for the hard drive.

    I'm in the U.S. Army stationed in Europe, Germany specifically, and don't know of anyone here who has a home build PC that I could borrow a PSU from. The one dude I knew has changed duty stations back to the United States. I will, however, consider purchasing a new one to test with if I can narrow it down to within a few possibilities and that is one of them.
    I have run Kombustor, but I have not run the other tool you suggest. I will get that and try it now. Is there any info. that you need from these tests, or just to see if stressing the GPU with these programs causes the restarts?
    Thanks for the quick responses.
    It could be anything at current moment:
    Weak/Failure PSU
    Overheating issue
    Memory troubles
    VGA malfunction
    or something else.
    Do test with OCCT Perestroïka:
    http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download
    Use: GPU:OCCT
    as mention above and leave it to test for 5 hours.
    Then post back results.
    Also you didn't answer:
